Sorry, but the other review is ridiculous. Chops is exactly as it should be: a middle tier Steakhouse on par with Cork and Cleaver. It's not Eddie Merlots or Baker Street, but it's a long shot from Texas Roadhouse. It's NOT expensive for a reasonably upscale Steakhouse. I have never had a bad meal there. But if you are expecting top shelf, then you need to adjust your expectations. read more

I was at chops on Valentine's Day for a girlfriends birthday lunch. Being vegan, I knew going in this was going to be a salad. I thought I remembered having a veggie wrap or a sandwich at a previous birthday lunch at Chops but it wasn't on the menu this day. I ordered a citrus salad, no blue cheese. I was in the process of ordering the chicken on the side when the waitress said I could order it without chicken or salmon. Perfect! The salad was wonderful, mixed greens, mandarin oranges, candied walnuts and tomatoes with the raspberry vinaigrette on the side. The bread was warm and fresh. When the bill came I was still charged for the citrus salad with chicken. The waitress ended up bringing out the chicken breast in a to-go box. Yes, this is what I was originally going for because I correctly assumed I would get charged for it anyway. It can not be that difficult to offer the salads with meat as an add on. There were some issues with our meal deliveries, three of us got our food, 5 min later another's food was brought out and 5 min after that the final entree which was the special that day was delivered. The first three of us were practically done eating by the time the special entree was delivered with just a quick "sorry for your wait". After having read 37 excellent reviews & finally getting a reservation at CHOPS, I was really looking forward to dine there. 1. We were seated at 9:00pm, the server attended to us at 9:15pm or maybe they just wanted my husband & me to talk about the food there for 15 minutes. 2. The drinks (we ordered martinis) were good & so were the crab cakes. In fact crab cakes were the best. 3. The salad & soup was served & the server came 3 times asking, if she could clear the table while we were working on it. It was amusing as by now the restaurant didn't seem that busy & I am sure they had more plates to serve our main course on. 4. The main course looked good but didn't taste that good. We ordered prime rib eye & shrimp rice. We ate as we were hungry but didn't quite relish it. 5. No one asked us if we wanted any dessert, we had to ask for a dessert menu. I understand it was 10:00pm but you gave us a table at 9:00 & attended to us 15 minutes later. Anyway ordered a bread pudding. It was more than the appetizer & looked like a complete meal in itself. We've been for dinner a couple of times but tend to visit more often at lunch. Great variety of menu items. Wonderful salads - no bagged lettuce mixes here! I wish there were more non-seafood specials for those of us that don't enjoy seafood, but that's my only complaint! Definitely try it for lunch first as it's less expensive then. read more

Tried a local place and was super disappointed...shoved into a corner bar seat because I was solo and that's fine. My entree was the same price as a "side of crab legs" manager claimed it was 1/2lb, it was 1/3lb at best. I don't appreciate being lied to and won't be back! I am new to the Ft Wayne area but was looking for someplace nice to take my brother for his birthday. He is an international traveler so has tasted some outstanding food. Chops did not disappoint!! From the appetizer of Tempura Tuna to the signature chop salad, all the way through the steak to the desert, this is one of the best meals I have experienced recently. The Tuna was prepared to perfection. It rivals meals I have had in NYC, DC, and Philly in some very fine restaurants. The atmosphere and decor is soothing and relaxing. The waitstaff was attentive and courteous. The wine list (by the glass or bottle) extensive. Our waiter even brought a wonderful brownie ice cream desert with a lit candle, gratis. My daughter wanted to go there for her birthday. Big mistake! When I made the reservation they asked and I informed them that it was a special occasion. The host confirmed the special occasion when he took us to the table. The waitress greeted us by saying that we were not her table, but she would fill our water glasses. Not the type of warm welcome or thank you for coming in that you would expect for a restaurant in this price category. She did become our waitress for the evening. You could tell that we were an inconvenience to her. Service was slow and we had to ask for the bread that was suppose to come with the meal. This was after we were done with our salads and were waiting way too long for our meals to come. I noticed she took bread to two other tables when we asked for it. She obviously thought she could skip that part of the meal for others too. My daughter never received any type of birthday recognition. When I asked the manager on the way out why they even bother to ask if it is a special occasion. She informed me that they bring out a dessert for the individual at the end of the meal. When I told that we never received it, she offered to pack up a dessert to go. Way too little, way too late. I would not recommend this restaurant to any of my friends. Poor service, a long wait for your meal, and a manager who doesn't care if customers leave unhappy. Don't expect this restaurant to exceed your expectations or even meet your basic expectations! read more

This is the best Fort Wayne has to offer. The Black & Blue Porterhouse was fantastic. The Seafood Manicotti was WOW. The bread is good and the service is above par. The first night I ate in the Wine Bar, dinning alone, and the service was quick and responsive. The second night I ate with another engineer. We did not make reservations (did not think I need them on a Tuesday evening but I was wrong) but the host worked us in. We had a fantastic meal. The wait staff did not bother us by asking if we wanted our dinks refilled, they just did it and allowed the conversation to continue. The food has been nothing less than excellent every time we have dined at Chops. The steaks are prepared pefectly. The service is almost always spot on (our waitress last night wasn't great) and the desserts are a perfect ending to the meal. The NY Strip with Brandy and green peppercorn sauce is excellent. The risotto was perfectly prepared. Skip the salad and get french onion soup. It is the best around. For dessert, the Creme Brulee is always tops and they have an amazing dessert trio sampler that is great, too. Lunch is just as awesome as dinner. The spicy beef spring rolls are great for lunch and a great appetizer on the dinner menu. Chops also has a full bar and very nice martini list... the Peach Royale martini is very smooth and tasty. read more

Great cozy steak house. Don't let the location steer you away. They are in a strip mall but the interior is very comfortable and classy. Family run business and the whole staff works hard to make it an enjoyable experience. I had the Crab Tomato Bisque which was good, the Apple pork chop which was also good (but not great), and the best part of the meal which was the cheesecake with fresh fruits and whipped cream. My favorite place to eat back home is a little hole in the wall called Cleveland Heath, which has won multiple awards for their dishes and drink concoctions. This establishment could give CH a run for it's money! All the food we ordered was flavorful, portioned well, and presented well. The drinks were delicious as well at a reasonable price. The atmosphere was very romantic, if not a tad on the dark side. Also, the staff was patient and kind. I recently ate here for as company Christmas party. The atmosphere at Chop's is fantastic; very welcoming. The new addition looks great as well. A diamond in the ruff but not really since it has been there since April 2003. Walking into this place is like walking into a SoHo restaurant with a wine bar and a restaurant. I was greeted by Brain Shreffler, Ex. Chef & GM who seated me. It wasn't packed but it wasn't empty either. The menu fits the establishments name well with many selections of meat and seafood. I opted for an organic full body Merlot from Chile that at first taste didn't like a full bodied red but after it grew on me it was wonderful. I started with the crusted goat cheese salad that was very pleasing. The main coarse was the Paella which was filled with scallops, shrimp, mussels and sausage that still had its smokey flavor. Chops Knows Steaks. They know wines. They know Salads. But the crab cakes- aahh- they know heaven.. these are divine! You can't leave without the joy of having tasted the Chops Crab Cakes. I've lived all over the country & these beat Baltimore. The waitstaff is prompt, well trained & well timed. They are not hovering, asking "how is everything?" the exact second your mouth happens to be full of the first bite of food ; only to be seen again an hour later asking if you want dessert. The wine list is nicely curated & has some unusual finds & the wine bar offers a variety of "flights". Don't skip dessert ,either. The creme brulee is a real treat. read more

If you're going to have anything on the menu, have the goat cheese salad. It is SO good and there is so much of it, even I have a hard time finishing it all, and I have quite the appetite. The tempura tuna is also one of their best menu items. I have eaten here quite a few times since moving to the Fort Wayne area and I have never been dissatisfied. Wine Bar Review "Trying too hard" was the term we used. I got the burger for the second time thinking the first was a fluke. Medium well was way too dry, and the patty itself was uneven, not uniform. The burger of the evening had mac & cheese on it. Totally could have done without that. Their ketchup is not good at all. It tastes as though they just added a ton of chili pepper. I remember really liking the salad the first time I was there, but my husband was not a fan. He didn't like that it was iceberg lettuce smothered in dressing. I used to love going to Chop's. USED TO. With new ownership their food has really went downhill. I recently went there and ordered shrimp cocktail and a wrap. The shrimp was very rubbery and tasted to be quite old. The cocktail sauce was also weird with wilted lettuce in the bottom. As a pregnant woman, I was concerned about my safety in eating something that did not seem to be prepared well. I only ate one. My wrap was equally disgusting. It was a mushy mess. My husband had to send his meal back as well. Something he has never done at any restaurant. We brought it up with our waitress and she met our concerns with contempt, arguments, and rude behavior. She also did not taking it off our bill despite not eating our food. It's such a shame. This used to be my go to place for lunch, but not anymore. I miss the old owners! read more

First time we were here since new ownership. It's not the old Chops. Limited steak options. Ordered spicy beef rolls as the appetizer but turned out to be vegetable. Main course was tenderloin medallions and New York strip. Took over an hour to reach our table. Medallions were good but the strip that was ordered medium rare showed up well done. They offered to make another one but we didn't want to invest anymore time. They took the strip off the bill and comp'd us a free dessert.
