Very very bad food taste, the rude person who cooked my food was very bad and stale and chicken wasn't fresh it was smelling stale. My god. Good food! That's how I'll describe the food here at Chopsticks. The recommend list includes the Gobi Manchurian Dry, Chili Fish Dry and Chili Paneer Dry. The Gobi Manchurian Dry, a deep fried cauliflower, wok fried with a fragrant blend spices, chilies, green peppers, onions, garlic and ginger. The texture of the cauliflower, a hearty cut, with crunchy exterior was perfect, one of the better versions of Gobi Manchurian that I've had. Of all the dishes I've tried here this was my favorite. The Chili Fish Dry was similarly delicious. Medium sized slices of tilapia breaded lightly, then wok fried with a splice blend with onions, garlic, ginger and green peppers. Finally, the Chili Paneer Dry, large cubes of paneer, with big garlic and ginger flavors, was delicious. Paneer may not necessarily be something I'm an expert on, but this version did not suffer from being bland like most versions I've had. All of the appetizer portion sizes could be considered just short of a main entree. Definitely must orders. Of the remaining items, the veggie hot and sour soup ok. It was filled with noodles and a very small dice of veggies with texture. It had a nice spicy kick but ultimately what I remember most of this soup was a thick consistency that seemed undeniably forced. The Hakka noodles and Chili Chicken were disappointing. Both of these dishes were overly salty. The Hakka noodles in particular was almost inedible due to the high sodium levels. The Chili Chicken, I believe, would have been great if not for this critical seasoning mistake. The next time I visit I would ask for less sodium for these two dishes. The food and service was quick even though the waiter indicated it would take a while. The silverware and place settings were, in one word, worn. Scratch marks were clearly visible. A mandatory 15% tip was accessed on the bill, which was a little strange for a party of just three. Given that I normally provide 20% gratuity, their policy actually saved me some monies by not giving me a choice, but still it was odd. Tasty food but way too spicy! We can usually handle spice but everyone in my family was sweating from the heat lol! We ordered a lot of food for 6 people but we had plenty of leftovers for the next day. The portion sizes were good thankfully because it was on the more expensive side. (Luckily, the food was more tolerable then) everything we got was delicious other than the heat, so ask for less spice when you order! Nope. Very inconsistent. I got really great pepper shrimp take away from here...once...courtesy my cousin. It was fantastic!! Have been here like 5 times since then, specifically for the pepper shrimp...it's almost as if I am getting a different preparation from the menu every single time !! Tried a plethora of dishes off the menu to find the some luck with some other preparation...but alas no luck. If you do end up here...take out. Place is not very clean with greasy spoons, glasses and the g'aweful greasy floors that have never been cleaned! I was just willing to risk it all in my quest for the pepper shrimp. The most horrible tasteless and disgusting laksa, green curry and Panir Chilly I ever had. Why I oh why did I end up in this disgusting place. Giving even a star is being too generous. We paid after 2 spoonfuls, second spoon to see any difference. Cost $28....leaving the place never to be back PRICELESS. The laksa is made with uncooked turmeric ( chef said green sauce) and it tasted dry and bland. Lumps of noodles with nary pieces of vegetables. The green curry had enough Veges and tofu however it tasted too sweet and was not close to even calling it a curry rather a coconut soup that look red. Two strikes and I'm done with this place. I placed an order for Door Dash delivery Tuesday night when I was busy working. I found out an hour later after Door Dash canceled the order that Chopstick is closed Tuesdays. There was no indication on their site. Bad business! Second strike was the next day. My friend ordered Tom Yum soup to go for me. Whatever they gave her was not Tom Yum. It was like thickened water with some chicken bits floating in it. The soup was flavorless and was fiery hot. I randomly walked in to this restaurant turned out to be really good like a hidden gem. the staff was really friendly if im not mistaken the gentlemen name is pranav very friendly and attentive to our orders. Returned here after 7 years. This used to be our fav Chinese food place. Loved it Again!!! They understand what does spicy means. Had gobhi Manchurian and chilly chicken and Shezwan rice. As other reviewers have stated Chopstick is an Indian owned Chinese / Thai / Malaysian restaurant (also known as Indo-chinese). I thought it was a nice change from what I normally get. The different curries sounded decent to me, we ended up getting beef rendang, masala rice, haka noodles, and tom yum soup. You can choose your level of spiciness too, which is cool. it is a cafe style carry-out joint, the tableware was plastic utensils, plastic containers and styrofoam cups. The only water available was from a jug-dispenser. Prices were fair, around 8 - 11 dollars for each portion. I might go try another indo-chinese place, but probably not this one. read more

Yesterday, I and my wife visited this place on a whim for the first time. We loved the food. It's your typical "hole in the wall" restaurant. Don't expect good ambience. Ordered dry veg Manchurian and hot garlic Hakka noodles. They were tasty and very different from other restaurant that we visited for Indo Chinese food. Dry Veg Manchurian was very crispy. If they can make it little soft, it would be perfect. The amount of spiciness was perfect for the typical indo-Chinese food. Portion was also of good sized. We recommend it to anyone who's looking for Indian street food kinda taste. We loved it. read more

It's not so much that Chopstick doesn't serve up okay grub, it's just that I'm extremely pissed off that it overtook what was probably the best Indo-Chinese establishment in Central Jersey. What was once a hole-in-the-wall place called Hakka Village (or Hakka something...) that served up real Tangra-Style Indo-Chinese owned by a Tangra Chinese family [it's the damnedest thing, the guy looked 100% "doong guo ren" (Chinese) but could ask "murgi na chingri mach"(Chicken or prawns) in Bengali]. Unfortunately, Hakka Village didn't strike accord with all of what is Little India save for a few gastronomics and guys like me who weren't afraid to try the place next to Fil-Am mart. They specialized in dishes that many Indians wouldn't eat, thus resulting in a relative lack of popularity. They did serve Desi-Chinese faves like Manchurian chicken and Momo, but they had different, more authentic names and taste that didn't harmonize with the Daal and Chawal folks for the most part. I went on vacation one time and when I returned, this quaint little place had been eaten by Little India and turned into a semi-trendy place with Indian TV running Bollywood movies all day. Distraught at first, I went in to see if any of Hakka VIllage was salvaged. None. Niet. The menu was revitalized, which I thought was good because some of the dishes had a more Indian appeal, but the rest of the menu was turned into a generic Desi-Chinese restaurant. The food was okay at best, nothing jumped out at me. Several dishes tasted the same. But don't let this review dismiss a chance for you to try out Indian-Chinese food. It's a nice melding of two flavors. And although I think Chopstick does it okay at slightly less that reasonable charges, and that the most authentic of the bunch has been wiped out, Chopstick is a good place for an introduction to Indo-Chinese food. Decent indo chinese, nothing over the top to put up with the mess of a place it is. Went there on Saturday night and was observer to the comedy of errors that was unfolding in front on my eyes. Only 1 waiter was serving the entire restaurant- taking orders, bringing out food, catering to take out customers and clearing tables. So turnaround time for everything was longer than expected. Lot of wrong orders were brought out and when customers objected they were shown the order receipts as if they had typed their orders in the system. Completely bonkers! I made a light joke about the mess to the owner and he was unbothered saying this is business as usual . We ordered Hakka noodles and chili chicken. Both the dishes were ok but nothing to rave about. For me a restaurant experience is never just about the food.... The service is equally important.... And unfortunately the service here sucks big time. But I'm very fond of the Indo-chinese food from these guys... (The low star rating is completely based on the one moron who sits at the counter, the light eyed guy, I should've asked his name... Ordered a take out and definitely it is not worth going there again. The quantity is quite decent but the quality horrible. Chicken Fried rice - it would be more apt if it was called Chilli rice. It was dumped with red chillis and was so hot that i started sweating. Chili Chicken Dry- Half cooked chicken tossed in chilli powder. Schezwan chicken - Was more or less chicken in a gum/glue paste.. horrible. i have taken food from there before but it was a long time ago. so probably the chef or something changed to make them go from a decent Indian Chinese to this horrible mess. Having heard great things about Indian-Chinese food -- every Indian person I know raves about this stuff -- we decided to get some of this stuff when we were in Edison. This place seemed like a reasonably priced joint with good reviews, so we found ourselves in Indian strip mall central for lunch. We ordered Hakka veg noodles, and lamb in hot garlic, since my dining companion knew what were "classic" Indian-Chinese dishes. The guy taking our orders gave us a skeptical look when we ordered the hot garlic dish; he made it quite clear that the dish was spicy. We were amused since my dining companion is Indian, and Asian people can take a bit of heat as well. Maybe we just look like wimps? Having grown up with Chinese food all my life, I found the food a little bizarre, but good. It's kind of like Szechuan-Indian fusion, or Singaporean/Malaysian, maybe. The presentation of the food in standard take-out containers detracted a little from the appeal. I wasn't blown away, but I'd like to explore the genre a little more to make a more definitive statement on this place, and I have no idea how this place compares with the real thing in Chinatown in India. Nevertheless, if I found myself back in this area, I might try a few other things on the menu. The food here is probably the best indo-chinese in and around edison and the one star is totally based on the experience and not the food. The customer service is crappy. I have mostly made pick ups from this place, dined in a couple of times. I have noticed the person at the register to be pretty rude but since i liked the food and we made pick-ups it dint bother me until they quoted the price of an appetizer 'chicken manchurian' to be &15. And upon asking I was told that they have a big portion which is why the appetizer was $15 and they apparently suddenly take cash. Sorry but not going back to this random priced place. read more

Different experiences. If you are just two of you dining here you have to sit at a table for two even though the restaurant is empty and there is not enough space to accommodate your food you order. Well rules are rules. If you are going to try the manchow soup better have a strong stomach. It just sears down your gullet. When asked, the manager said it s by default. O my. No question whether you wand it mild medium or hot. I couldn't have the soup. They were kind enough to replace with sweet corn. The chowmein and manchurian saved the day. We stumbled on past this nice joint last week and the aroma was so amazing we came back from Brooklyn to NJ just to try it. The host was so pleasant and welcoming which is so important to us. She helped us thru the menu and the chef was amazingly accommodating with meal prep and spice levels. The food was great each dish had its own taste , we had soup and 3 entrees ! I would've given it 1/5 overall if the food wasn't as good. The food was above average. I really liked the hakka noodles. The chilli chicken and chicken manchurian were EXACTLY the same. We couldn't tell the difference. Chicken lollipop and chilli paneer were average for appetizers. Soups were okay- nothing too special (we tried chicken sweet corn and chicken munchow). Service and decor were absolutely horrendous. Food was served in plastic paper plates and no bowls were provided for the soup. I felt like I was sitting in a very low end dhaba in India because even dhaba's accommodate proper plates and utensils unlike this place. Furthermore, a complementary 15% tip was automatically added to my bill, which I didn't appreciate because we received NO SERVICE whatsoever.
