Sadly this location isn't my fave. I gave them a few chances but I'm done. I stopped going for awhile since I was never satisfied with my food. The customer service isn't the best. I recently visted and was quickly reminded why I don't come here. The bread was hard and stale! They skimp on portions and it's not always fresh. At these prices, it's ridiculous. Seeking a light and healthy lunch, we came to Chopt after visiting the National Archives Museum a couple blocks away. Options include salads, warm bowls and wraps, which you can choose from their list of creations, or craft your own. If creating your own, the full list of toppings wasn't super clear by just looking at the menu, so you basically just need to view the full selection once you get to the counter. I chose the SANTA FE salad ($10.49 + $3.49 for grilled chicken), a combination of avocado, corn, grape tomatoes, Pepper Jack cheese & crispy shallots atop romaine. When asked, I opted for a "regular" amount of dressing which was their sweet & smoky chipotle vinaigrette; it completely coated my salad. Others in my group asked for "light" dressing and thought it was enough. As my salad made it down the assembly line, I liked how they actually chopped it up while simultaneously mixing in the dressing and therefore thoroughly combined all the ingredients. Before topping the bowl with a lid, they will include a free piece of bread if you wish. I enjoyed my salad and the vinaigrette was very bold in flavor with a surprising spice... the heat grew with every bite! It indeed had a bit of sweetness as well to balance it out. They included a reasonable amount of chicken breast for the additional cost of $3.50. The pieces were tender, lean and of great quality. The romaine was fresh and I loved the crunch and added flavor from the fried shallots. Unfortunately, the bread was very dry, but given that it was free, I really have no complaints there. Overall, the portion size of my salad was fair as the bowl ran deep and it was filled to the top! It was truly a healthy, fulfilling lunch. Plus, they have great seating right outside with a view of the neighboring US Navy Memorial Plaza. Here's hoping Chopt will eventually make its way over to the Pacific Northwest! read more

The incredible shrinking Chop't Salad! First, they stopped actually chopping the salads, then, one-by-one, they removed from the menu all the interesting planned salads (which, once you make your own based on the same ingredients, is now $2 more), and now they give you only a fraction of any ingredient other than lettuce. I just ate a $12 (not so big) bowl of kale with an errant tortilla chip and a couple black beans. It's probably worth the walk a few blocks over to SweetGreen at this point. read more

Tasty salads with a TON of options and a really extensive menu, including warm bowls that aren't even really salads for when you're wanting something other than a salad. The menu is a bit overwhelming the first time you go but feel free to ask questions and you can customize anything on the menu. I tried the Santa Fe salad (avocado, grape tomatoes, corn, pepperjack, shallots, romaine lettuce) with chicken and enjoyed it. Portions are large so you'll be full. It's a little expensive (but so it everything in downtown DC) so you'll get your money's worth here. read more

Don't get played by Chopt like me. I recently moved offices and now I'm located closer to this location. Previously, Ive had a well documented love/hate relationship with the 12th Street location (see my reviews) all related to online ordering. And this location is no different. There just seems to be no kind of quality assurance for the online orders. See my attached pictures. My order consisted of edamame, spicy jerk chicken, pickled onions, feta cheese, kalamata olives and dried cranberries. No edamame to be found. One small block of feta cheese. One, maybe two pieces of the chicken. A sprinkling of olives and maybe a dusting of cranberries. The food and quality of it has never been an issue - it's the service and quality (or lack thereof) related to what you get when you order online. This is ridiculous! Chopt as a chain is a good addition to the fast food scene, but this location in particular (like other reviewers here note) seems to have a quality-control problem with online orders. I made a custom salad online for pick-up "With Shrimp, Carrots, Scallions, Egg Whites, Tri-Color Quinoa, Featured: Jicama with Lime, Cucumber & Tomato Salad, Crispy Chickpeas, Cabbage & Cilantro Blend." I love Chopt, the salads are great and quality is good. HOWEVER, i have done the order and pick up now 3 times and each time my salad has only been filled just over half way! I never have this issue when I'm there going through the line. They fill it with more dressing than normal, way too much protein, it's definitely lacking on greens, it has been very disappointing. I will only order from them now if I go in person, which line is usually crazy. For the amount the salads costs, they should be fully filled! read more

It was a HUGE bowl of greens which is great my only toppings were carrots, roasted sweet potatoes and Brussels sprouts. I got the full scoop of carrots but maybe a tbsp of mushy sweet potatoes and prob one full brussel sprout. It was dry and bland. This place is OK but I prefer the Protein Bar. I have had a couple of different salads here and they were each OK to pretty good tasting. What kind of annoys me about this place is that they ask you if you want something without disclosing the adding cost. Take today for example -- my friend thought one of the options described on a board sounded good. At no point did any of the of folks putting it together for her disclose the added costs and she was surprised when her total was close to $20. Other places with the assembly style menu 1) do a better job at letting you know about the added costs of items and 2) don't seem to have so many additional costs. I don't mind paying extra for something I want when I know about the added charge but I do mind that Chop't does not really disclosure them. I don't want the register to be guessing game. While the salads are good I have a feeling of distrust toward the brand, at least at this location. I have not been to the one of F St in a while but might give it a try just for a comparison. read more

Washington, D.C. is a tough market for a salad fast casual brand because we have sweetgreen (born and raised in the DMV). However, if you like a little more calories in your salad, go to Chopt over sweetgreen. Chopt caters to those who think they want to eat more healthy. They load up their salads with unhealthy toppings like tortilla chips and heavy, heavy dressing. I ordered the Baja Shrimp salad and it was tasty, but didn't seem healthy. Why. WHY?! Why do you ALWAYS forget ingredients?! I'm waiting for the time, and perhaps I'm playing fool for waiting, when Chopt includes all of my ingredients - or when something is not wrong. SANDY LETTUCE. We got two salads with romaine lettuce. Every bite has sand. The grit in my teeth almost makes it inedible. I feel and hear the grit as I'm chewing. I swear this place can get a wee bit overwhelming if you don't know what you want. The line and ordering can be a bit much, but I figured it out...lol So basically if you choose a salad, they will take this machete looking thing and chop everything all up in little bite sized pieces. They put the dressing on the salad for you and mix it all up. Be clear with the staff, like uber clear because I asked for a balsam vinaigrette dressing, and for some reason the gent put vinegar all over my salad. They had to remake it, but that wasn't after I noticed the side eye that they gave ME...sir it was your fault. Sheesh. I got a cobb salad, it was pretty large, I was full before I finished it. All of the ingredients were fresh and their are lots of choices from salads to hot items. The savage thing about this place is the cost. What I liked about my experience with Chop't today: I could place an order through the mobile website instead of having to download the app again. What I didn't like: Placing my order at 12:30 for pick up at 12:45 and watching the line I was trying to skip, pass me while another six people joined me in waiting for their 12:30 to 12:45 promised lunches. This location is always busy at the lunch hour. I know that. The only other time I've beeb here, the wait to get to the counter took most of my lunch break, so I ordered ahead this time, taking advantage of the recent bday coupon Chop't sent me. At 12:56, when I and many others were waiting and completely in the way near the pick-up shelves, I finally asked the cashier if she knew what the wait might still be. She took my name, but didn't glance at the obvious gathering of other pick-uppers, and went to the back, which started to back up the line of regular patrons who had completed salads. She was back there for a few minutes before coming back out and saying "he's working on your order." Another few minutes later, she went again to the back and came back with my meal. I was late to my one o'clock. As I left, I had very little faith that he other pick-uppers got their salads soon after I got mine. Basically, I can't recommend coming here at lunch unless you have a half hour or more to spend waiting in some line. Maybe that's good if you like standing and want to chat up a friend, though it's a crowded, loud space. This Chop't just can't handle the rush. My husband and I were visiting DC, so we tried Chopt after passing it during our site-seeing. I had the Mexican Caesar Salad and it was one of the best salads ever. My husband went with something warm, so he got the Chicken Tinga Bowl and thought it was delicious. Chopt was quick and reasonably priced, and I wish we had one in our city. I enjoyed the chipotle dressing, it was spicy & the sweetness of the corn offered a nice balance but I wanted more of the toppings & chicken. It could get old if you're not a big fan of salads. Employees here have a nasty attitude. Very rude, no wonder why the place is empty. I ask for a salad and asked for different ingredients and the employee start talking to the other employee and making fun of what I was asking. Then I had to wait and when they finally finished my order, the didn't charge me and went to the back. After calling him a few times he came back and he charge me the food and a lemonade. My colleague reminded me of this place as a meal option near our homes. After working out last night, I decided to run up to my place and put on a half zip pullover to layer on top of my tank and shorts. After all, it was in the low 50s last night, and even though Chop't is a mere three minute walk from my place, I didn't want to look crazier by just walking out in shorts and a tank. I had looked up the menu before so I had an idea of what to expect. While it wasn't entirely clear where the line, or lack thereof, started or ended, since there was only one other patron, I just stood by and waited until it was my turn. One lady took my order and answered my question of whether I could add chicken to my Santa Fe salad. She said yes but I would have to pay extra, which I was fine with since I am on a no carbs challenge this week. I also requested the Harvest Cobb salad for lunch. That came with chicken and was $9.49 without tax. Both salads were made within minutes. Rachel, who ended up putting the finishing touches on my salads and rang me up, asked if she had chopped my salad enough and poured enough dressing. She also asked whether I wanted salt and pepper. Next time, I will ask them to go light on the dressing. The sweet and smoky Chipotle vinaigrette, while delicious, was overpowering the greens. Luckily, Rachel had given me some extra romaine for that salad. I'm worried about the Harvest Cobb as I'll be eating that for lunch later today. I'm hoping it'll be good although this morning I did notice a lot of beet coloring the greens. :-) So, at over $22 for two salads and two pieces of flatbread, this is pricey but since I usually grab a salad from CVS for about $6, and those salads are smaller and less fresh, Chop't is definitely an alternative to consider, especially given its options, proximity, and hours (they are open until 8:30 pm every night). FYI, when I came in around 6 pm, there was only one person sitting in the restaurant. I'm looking forward to coming back and trying the Chop't Po'Boy and Steakhouse salads. They also have three Destination Salads here. On the website, they say every 60 days, 3 new special are unveiled, so hurry over if you want to try them. They also do delivery, but I am not sure if there is a minimum order requirement. read more

Chopt is great! My kids love it, as do I. Loads of healthy options & ways to customize your salad to your heart's content. Huge portions. The complimentary bread choice included with your salad purchase is a nice touch. This particular location of Chopt has ample outdoor & indoor seating, friendly staff & fast-moving lines. We were all very pleased with our salad choices and we were so full after lunch! It's a great thing to show kids that you can eat a giant salad to get filled up....... not just a burger & fries. This is a great, brand new location of Chop't. They are even more efficient than other locations in the city as they mostly serve people during their lunch break. The salads are great...and you can customize them! Know what you want to order before you get to the front of the line because this location is serious. Been here 4x since they opened and each time something has been wrong. Once WAY too much pepper & all salad dressing in center (so much so salad was inedible), twice had to remind person to add an ingredient (to their own signature offerings, not create-your-own), and once was told they were out of two main ingredients. Every time I have had to ask that my salad actually be chopped rather than run over once w/ the mezzaluna. They've been open for 3 mos., they should have it together. I will be hoofing it up to the much more solid 7th St. store from now on. read more

Oh-em-gee. Why didn't I find out about this place before? This was my first experience at a Chop't, even though I knew they were here - I just never really took the time to find about them before. They just opened this one by my workplace, and I discovered it purely by accident looking for another place to eat (which ended up being closed). It doesn't matter, because I'm so glad I chose here. The line confused me at first, but I quickly got the hang of it and ordered a Steakhouse salad with Spa Tex-Mex dressing on the side. I'm very, very, VERY glad that they put the dressing on the side, because I think I had a look of horror on my face when I saw that they were getting ready to squirt it right on there and the woman looked at me and was like, "You want it on the side?" Thank you SO much for asking me!!!! (Hey, I know it's a low-cal dressing but I like to taste salad, too, you know.) The salad (and dressing) were absolutely DELICIOUS. There's a LOT of variety here, almost too much so, and I felt my head spinning with all of the choices. One thing is for sure - I definitely see myself coming back again and again to try them out. The only thing that keeps it from being a 5 star Monty is the price. 10 bucks is a little steep for a salad (though admittedly worth it), so I can't make this an everyday thing. Every week, however, well... Excellent option for "healthier" fare here, and it'll join the Protein Bar in my rotation for D.C. lunches. Now open one in Baltimore. Please. This place started out as great a few years ago, but has degenerated into a store where half of the ingredients for your salad "are out today", and one employee is waiting on the line of customers while two other employees are busy trying to get things ready to close, three hours before their listed closing time. I believe this Chop't location opened somewhat recently. I visited for the first time last week and I absolutely LOVED it! It's a hard decision because there are so many great salad places in DC, but I think Chop't may very well be my new favorite salad place. I always order their steakhouse salad now with Bacon Russian dressing and it is so fantastic. The ingredients are always fresh. At this particular location, the service is friendly and efficient, even though they get thousands of customers streaming in every day. Their lunch hour is particularly busy, but I've thankfully found seating in there. And if not inside, this restaurant is right next to the Navy memorial, so if it's a nice day out, you can sit out right by the fountain and enjoy your food. read more
