One thing that I always LOVE about Chosun is the amazing service!! The servers are always so kind and they do most of the grilling for you so we can relax and enjoy our meal. The meat is consistently a 10/10. Yes the price point is high, but so worth it if you're down to splurge a bit. The only reason for my 4 stars is because we ordered a kimchi pancake and we really did not enjoy it. It barely had any kimchi or kimchi flavor, and it was pretty undercooked. I'm not sure if that's how it was supposed to be, but it was pretty mushy inside. Next time, we will definitely just stick to the meat and cold noodles which always hit!! read more

This was my second visit to this restaurant. The space is beautifully designed with a strong Korean theme. The interior feels authentic, and the staff wearing traditional hanbok adds to the overall experience. Service was also consistently friendly and attentive, which made the visit enjoyable. That said, the food didn't quite match the pricing. It's not that the food is bad, but it feels overpriced for the quality. The meats were decent, but I've definitely had better cuts and flavor at other KBBQ spots. One thing I personally pay a lot of attention to at KBBQ restaurants is naengmyeon (cold noodles), and unfortunately this was the biggest disappointment. Three out of the four people in our group, including myself, ended up with pretty bad food poisoning later that night. Came to Chosun Galbee to celebrate a friend's birthday. We took public transit in but my friends drove and used the valet parking. The restaurant is large and very pretty. We sat in the outdoor patio which although outdoors was covered and felt like we were indoors; it was also not too hot and being outdoors made our clothing smell less smoky after the meal. Service was attentive throughout, with the servers cooking the food on the grill. We ordered a beef combo for 3-4 people, even though we were a party of 5. The combo comes with drinks but they were a stickler and only gave us 4 drinks. We chose the kimchi stew to accompany our meal, which was a bit more sour than I am used to (they used very fermented kimchi) but still yummy. We also ordered a seafood pancake and mul naengmyeon (cold noodle) to accompany the meal, which ended up being too much food so we had leftovers. The quantity and quality of food for the beef combo was substantial. Banchan wete also plentiful and tasty, and everyone got an individual serving of salad. They even gave us two sets of banchan even though we were only a group of 5. We had to ask for steamed rice (which was delicious); I'm not sure if there was an extra charge for the rice. We didn't do BBQ bc I was with Korean elders and they did not want to smell like bbq (plus I don't think they eat protein like that anymore) We got galbi lunch sets and galbi + mul nengmyun and bibim nengmyun all around! You HAVE to get the galbi here, if you're not doing bbq. The meat is so soft and the marinade is perfect! Their banchan is kinda lacking not gonna lie but the main dish they are known for is still on point. We got a room so service was excellent and they stored and cut the cake for us. I remember back then, Sundays used to be a lot busier but maybe we just went on an off day! They have seating outside as well and the restaurant is pretty huge! My friends and I dined at Chosun Galbee on a Thursday evening at 7:00 p.m. with a reservation. When we arrived, I noticed there was plenty of open seating. Even as we left close to 9:00 p.m., many tables were still available. At least on Thursdays, this doesn't seem to be one of the more crowded KBBQ spots in the area. I appreciated that one of my friends took charge of ordering because the menu can feel overwhelming -- just about every cut of meat you can think of is available. Of the meats we ordered, my favorite was the prime rib eye steak, which the staff cut into small, easy-to-eat cubes with scissors. Despite not being heavily marbled, the meat was very tender. I also really enjoyed the short ribs, which had great marbling and flavor. The bones are included separately on the platter, so two lucky people at our table got to gnaw on those. My least favorite was the brisket -- it was sliced very thinly and ended up overcooking almost immediately. One of the standout aspects of Chosun Galbee is the service. Everything is cooked for you, which makes for a relaxed, "lazy" KBBQ experience. That said, I do wish they plated the cooked meat separately so no one felt the need to frantically grab pieces off the grill before they overcook. Everyone gets their own dipping sauces and salad, and banchan refills are available upon request. The banchan here is a step above what you'll find at most KBBQ joints -- I especially liked the mashed potatoes with bits of crispy pear mixed in. Another nice surprise: side dishes are portioned for sharing by the staff, which isn't something I often see at KBBQ spots. They helped us split a bowl of cold noodles four ways and divided two pancakes among ten people. Price-wise, we ended up paying $70 per person, including a few bottles of beer and soju -- and everyone left super full. For larger groups, the pricing becomes much more reasonable when sharing across the table. If you forgot to book a KBBQ spot for your group, don't mind paying a bit of a premium for a low-effort dining experience, and prefer not to leave smelling like smoke, Chosun Galbee is a solid option. read more

We came here on Friday around 7:30PM. They have valet parking for $5 but because we have a Tesla and didn't bring our key, he just told us to park our car and still have to pay him $5 when we walk out. A bit butthurt but, I feel bad for him too so I paid without complaining. Immediately warmly greeted the korean way by a male as we walked in. Immediately seated, took the server a few minutes before they asked what drinks we want but also, good enough time to look at the menu. The galbee jjim was exceptionally tasty. There's red date, radish and carrot in it. The meat was cooked until tender and soft. Everything was so flavorful, not too salty or sweet. Amazing amazing amazing!!!! Must try! Been here many times when I lived in Los Angeles many moons ago, we used to meet our father here sometimes. We met my family to celebrate our daughter's birthday for lunch. We were lucky and found street parking, but they have valet parking of course. It's really beautifully decorated inside and out with lots of plants which I love. The waiting area is nice size with a nice big coffee table and bar with also a seating area. Bathrooms are also there and someone greets you as you walk in we had reservations. We got seated after everyone showed up, we chose to sit outside since it was such a beautiful day. Our server she was pretty nice she seemed a tiny bit annoyed and also most everyone there did not speak english but they were mostly friendly. I wish I spoke Korean but our parents never taught us so lol. But we did order some delicious food. Bulgogi which was so good, Kimchi fried rice which was honestly not that good at all very sour and lacked good flavor but the display was nice. Also ordered the spicy braised black cod which I was craving for so long. It was really delicious but so much bones guess I didn't realize how much bones there would be but really enjoyed that. Also got the kimchi pancakes which I forgot a picture of but that was yummy. Baby girl loves bulgogi we all sort of shared. The banchan was fresh the eggs were chewy and bouncy, the kimchi was fresh and crunchy, the rest i didn't like but the salad was not bad either just not my absolute favorite. We had so many flies coming around our food though that part was super annoying they have candles to help and even brought out more for us cause it was pretty bad. Then we asked to go inside but after they brought out like 4 more candles they sort of went away and the manager was so nice and willing to move us inside but he opened the plastic drapes and that helped and cooled us down a bit too so we stayed outside. We had a really nice lunch and spending time with family is always wonderful. Thank you for friendly and kind service, hopefully the kimchi fried rice is better next time. The kalbi side though was quite small, so I'd skip that all together for the price and just focus on the noodles. You also get SLABs of meat int the noodle bowl which was my first time seeing. One of the OGs of LA! Nowadays, Chosun is sorta THE spot for the older generation or if we want something a bit fancier. The quality of everything here is great but of course, it comes at a cost. Kalbi is what we usually get. The marinade here is legit and one of the gold standards. Not too sweet and the flavors spot on. We also like the get the naengmyeon to pair. Pretty classical style here. All the other Korean dishes here are good as well. We like to get the Simmered Black Cod (Eun Dae KuJo Rim), which is cod in this sweet and spicy sauce. Big portion here and it has these large chunks of radishes that just soaks up the sauce very well. On the sweeter side more than the spicy side. All the various stews are good options as well! The banchans here are all really good. The seaweed soup they provide is a must. My aunt can drink 3-4 bowls of the soup! Service-wise, if you order BBQ, the ladies will grill for you and they are always fast and responsive. However, do check your bill at the end of the meal because sometimes they may charge you extra for rice or even for the soup, which unfortunately can happen if they know you don't speak Korean or not familiar with the restaurant. We tend to only go when we go with the Korean speaking side of the family. Valet is $3 for lunch and $5 for dinner. read more

When we got there, we had to wait 20 minutes for a table inside to free up (wouldn't mind sitting outside except it was a cold night). Regardless, for a place charging this much, you shouldn't have to wait 20 minutes to be seated if your reservation has been confirmed. - Brisket was a letdown: this is my favorite thing to eat at a KBBQ restaurant so it was disappointing when it just tasted...off? Kind of like it had just been thawed. - Lack of dipping sauces: there were two and one of them didn't add any flavor to the meat. - Taste did not justify the price: It wasn't bad, but it just wasn't memorable enough to come back and spend around $80pp again when there are so many great options to choose from in K-Town. read more

I came with some pros. My friend's parents chose the place and ordered the food. It did not miss. They ordered family style items and got us kids our own plates. The sides that are served were all a hit. My favorite was the cucumber kimchi. But the radish was delicious as well. The service was great. We did not seem to have one specific server. They just all made sure our table was good. If there was music I didn't hear it but I also didn't hear other tables chatter. The kids enjoyed their food as well. This is definitely a place to visit. Came here to try the cold noodle soup - we have mixed feelings. It took a long time for the cold noodles soups to come out, even the bbq came out first, this was odd. The bowl of rice I asked for my son never came. When the noodles did come - 2 were chewy and 2 were overcooked (mushy). Only one of them came with the Asian pear. Some of the brisket was soft and tender some were hard and dry. Doesn't seem to be any consistency - and none of the broths had any slush in it. The galbi and banchans were good, but based on this experience I'm not sure if we will return. We also never had anyone check on us so we got no refills for water. read more

We moved away from LA a few years ago but we make it a point to visit Socal every year, and no trip to LA is complete without a meal at Chosun! I'd tried almost everything on the menu, from their simple lunch options, to all the BBQ options. You can't go wrong with anything on the menu, they have something for everyone, even vegetarians and pescatarians. Chosun provides consistent high quality dishes, from their marbled meats, buttery sea bass, excellent marinated dishes, and amazing noodles (especially the Naengmyun). Very classy dining experience, and they have both indoor and outdoor dining options which is pretty unique for a kbbq place. *Customers Should Be Aware of Their Bill and Always Double Check Their Receipt* On 10/19, I was hosting two friends at this popular and renowned Korean BBQ restaurant in Koreatown. When it was time to pay, I handed the waitress my CC, as I always do. Yes, I should've asked for an itemized receipt before; However, I have been dining here for over 20 years as one of my favorite restaurants and it is common to pay and receive an itemized bill afterwards. They charged us 476$ between 3 people. (our actual total was 278.77). I had left the restaurant unsure if the total was correct, so I called back to check and the restaurant did indeed overcharge our table (receipt included in a picture below). When I asked about the overcharge, they instructed me to come back to the restaurant to void the original bill. They would then give me the new, correct bill, and I paid for that. The next day, I checked my bank account and saw three separate extra charges. I called the restaurant to ask about the charges and requested to speak to a manager. The manager then proceeded to treat me extremely rudely, saying it was my fault and giving me a lot of attitude. I brought all receipts and even showed bank statements but was yelled at and treated extremely unprofessionally. This is a well-established restaurant that has been around for years. We understand mistakes happen, but there was absolutely no accountability on their end and, quite frankly, I wasted a lot of my time. Cho Sun Galbee has been a staple amongst Korean families for years. It was my first time trying that soup, but it was a bit too fishy for my taste. The service was great, and the ambiance was nice, but I feel like this place is better suited for a group, so you can order and share more dishes. Look, yall impressed my picky and critical Korean parents and we enjoyed every banchan and dish we ordered. We actually didn't have any korean bbq so I don't think I had the full experience of food or service in that regard but dang, we will be back. Atmosphere is nice, clean, modern and does not have an overwhelming smell of smoke/bbq. What We Ordered: -Raw marinated crab yangyum gwae jang - Ooh-guh-ji galbi tang - Mandu gook, and - Dwen-jang jjigae Staple korean soups. The broths were all good and you could tell, they really cooked down the broths for the galbi tang and mandu gook. Depth of flavor was definitely there and nicely seasoned. Lots of meat and veggies in the soups and the mandu were filled to the edges of the wrapper. The crab marinade was not too spicy and lightly sweet due to fruit in the marinade and batons of asian pear. We ate the marinade with rice when we ate all the crab. The crab was lightly frozen still but we stilled enjoyed it. And of course, no upset stomach afterwards as sometimes people experience. Our experience with service was very good too. For all that, it was just over $120 which is insane coming from the Bay Area with awful and overpriced Korean food. We will definitely be back. read more
