Short: Nice spot to grab a bite to eat on the Coast. Nothing too crazy fancy, just good, warm, and comforting. Service was ok. Visited at the end of June '22. I arrived after the place being recommended to me. I was seated by staff, with a plush on their shoulder. I am young, the staff was young, I thought it was funny, non-professional, but funny. After being seated in a corner next to the small stairs in the middle of the restaurant. A server comes over after a few moments, and quickly comes back asking if I was ready to order. My guest had arrived and sat at my table. They knew what they wanted, I had to look at the menu over and over.. Once i decided i would get a kid's menu meal, I know the server had to take a moment, but I am glad she served me it anyways. The food: Our table ordered the fish & chips, coleslaw [yes, on the side since none came with], shrimp & chips [kid's menu serving]. Also an appetizer, "southwest potato poppers", this one was a big winner. It's like a tater tot and jalapeno poppers had become a deep fried nugget. It is lightly breaded, which I appreciated and wasn't overly spicy. They arrived hot and came in plenty. Definitely recommend and will get them again! Fish & chips, decently priced [3pc - $16], I like how the chips are cut and aren't too super crispy or thin. Fish was made well, not too overly dark, but they did get soggy quickly. I did really love the garlic texas toast that came with it! Not too overly garlicky, crust was crispy, but the inner was so soft and buttery! Shrimp & chips for kids, it was 3 small shrimp pieces, was hoping at least 4 given the size, most of the plate (85%) was chips. Coleslaw: I felt like it was missing something and was a bit too dry for my liking. The white thick-and-a-little-chunky chowder was ok, but seriously bland while the super soft bread bowl cradling the warm soup was lacking in fluffy texture or taste. To be honest, I don't think I'd get the chowder again if I go back to Chowder Bowl. On the positive side, the friendly service was downright charming while the safety protocols in place during the pandemic were rightfully respected. When I am lured back, it will be because great service is is always appreciated and there must be better (right?) items on the menu than the Chowder Bowl chowder. read more

The fish in the fish tacos and fish and chips had just the perfect amount of breading. It was a great balance between fish and breading--which isn't usually the case with most fish and chips dishes. I arrived at the restaurant at around 1:30, and the restaurant was pretty crowded with 5-6 parties waiting for a table before me. I decided to grab takeout so that I wouldn't have to wait in line. The food was ready within 15 minutes! I was really impressed with the turnaround time, given how busy they were! I'm leaving a 4 star review for a few reasons: 1) The host wasn't entirely friendly to my party, even though they were enjoying making lots of small talk with a customer before us and 2) The host charged us extra for getting both mango sauce and pico de gallo without letting us know there would be an extra charge. AND forgot the pico de gallo sauce in one of our to-go orders after charging us for it. All in all, the food was delicious, and I'm pleased with my experience. We were in this area after visiting Tillamook factory, we were looking for a place to stay for the night but also needed something for dinner. When we walked in, there was no one in the immediate area to greet us or seat us. We walked a little further in and then were greeted and seated. The place looked like your typical beach restaurant, with nautical themed decorations all over the place. We ordered our food and everything came out quickly. I got the fish and chips (I had been craving some for a while) and my wife got the clam chowder bread bowl. I was a bit disappointed that the fish was not beer battered, and when they came out they seemed a little small. The food was decent but nothing to rave about. The clam chowder bread bowl was ok. The bread was nice and soft and the chowder was alright. Found this place here on yelp and it was in walking distance from the hotel. We were greeted and sat down fast with it being a little busy. The food came out fast and was nice and hot, plus it was delicious. It was a little loud for me cause I'm hard of hearing but that was due to a large party that was there. I typically go to Mo's (of course) for chowder, but I've never been to Nye Beach before, so we thought it'd be a good opportunity to try something different and new. We stopped here for lunch after making our way down from Lincoln City. The restaurant is really close to the beach- just a block or two- and it's right in the center of "downtown" Nye Beach. The place wasn't too busy so we were seated quickly and our server promptly asked us if we wanted drinks, etc. We decided on a bowl of chowder and a calamari with chips. The chowder came out super fast. If you've had Mo's then you know hers has bacon. This one didn't, but the flavor was really good, and (we had Mo's later that day) it was less gritty than Mo's, the potatoes were more finely cut, and for us the texture was a lot better. The flavor was really good as well, and I've had Mo's a number of times and I think I like this better. We weren't a big fan of the large slice of butter on top, but they even did this at Mo's, so we ended up just taking it off. The bread was better at Mo's, it was garlic bread with butter on it, and nicely toasted. The calamari was tasty; it had a bit too much breading on it, but it wasn't overseasoned like some places, and the fries (sliced potatoes) were clearly homemade, fresh cut, and super hot. They were really good, and they had an interesting sweet and sour jam sauce in addition to the tartar sauce that was really good. Had a bowl of the thick, creamy chowder with a helping of small pink shrimp and a pad of melty butter on top! Both the shrimp and butter were a first for me ! I'd now like that every time!! This also comes in a delicious sourdough bowl as well! We also had the fish and chips. Danielle, our server who was cheerful, knowledgeable and so helpful suggested I try the fish with just a tiny bit of light coating. I don't like a heavy battered fish so this was great! It's nice to know that it is a bit customizable and fresh enough that it is an option.... not done up before you order! It was the best and I can't wait for more. Surprisingly good food for a tourist area. My husband and I both ordered the two piece fish with a baked potato instead of chips. The breading on the fish isn't a thick beer batter, it's a thin and crunchier batter. The fish was moist, not at all dry. I really liked it. One of my sons got the clam chowder in a bread bowl. The other got shrimp and chips. They both enjoyed their meals. They also had a selection of local beers which paired well with our meals We had to wait a be while to be seated but service was fast and friendly once we got inside. I would recommend it. read more

If I were just reviewing the chowder, I would absolutely give it 5 stars. In fact, this was my second time coming thanks to my experience the first time around with their delicious chowder. The first time I went, I got the chowder in a bread bowl, and it was enough for 2 people with some to spare. This time, I got clam chowder in a cup, as well as the cajun shrimp and fried oysters with chips. Unfortunately, and maybe just personally, the fried oysters were not worth it at all. I did like the shape of the potato fries though! The cajun shrimp also was just ok, but felt like it was missing something that I tend to expect with cajun food. Next time, I will definitely stick to the chowder, and you can rest assured that its not an order you'll regret! The other great thing, is their quick service!! read more

My wife and I were in at about 5:00 on Halloween. I've never seen the place so empty. The food was on point, and as expected came out very quickly. I wish I would caught their names, but there was a gal serving us alongside "Napoleon Dynamite". They were doing a great job of taking care of us. But, the part that impressed me most, probably because I am also a retail manager, was that they were preparing to close the place down a couple hours early, but customers started showing up. The open sign was off, and they could have just as easily turned them away at the door. Instead they were greeted with a smile and our server shrugged at us and grinned. They could have gotten out of there a little early, but my guess is they stayed till the normal closing time. Kudos to your staff. Hang on to them and treat them well, as apparently you already do. read more

Food was really good here, we got the chowder and clam steamer and it was delicious. The only complaint I have is the clams were the slightest bit sandy, but everything else was perfect. All the stars for our server, I forgot your name sorry. She was great! Very attentive although serving a lot of tables and thinks ahead. The chowder was a bit salty and lacks clams but no doubt it would have been good if I have gotten it in a bread bowl. I think it was formulated to eat with sourdough bread. The fish tacos needed salting a little bit as it was bland but the batter is perfect and meat was moist. Better batter than other places around but it is dry salty fried food. One of my fried clams was still sandy, grit in my teeth sandy. It was funny for me and reminded me of my childhood living near the ocean. Chips were ok. They got a bit soggy mixed in with the hot fried seafood. Their garlic bread needed more toasting. The price and servings are appropriately matched. The place seriously needs sweeping. I think little kids dominate this restaurant since it is a hit for picky little eaters. Instead of giving them fast food fries, buy them fried seafood packed with protein and iodine from here while the adult enjoys a Cannonball chowder. Crumbs everywhere. COVID-19 precautions in place and they have outdoor seating. Also bought homemade chili which wasn't a disappointment until it burned in our heating cup. We actually visited Nye beach because we came to eat to the restaurant. You can walk from the restaurant to the beach, it's only a block away! We ordered from the daily menu. The Cajun Cod Melt Sandwich was awesomely FRESH! Not only the fish, but the vegetables. The clam chowder served on the side was really DELICIOUS and it might be because there was a big slice of butter on top of it, melting while you eat it... My family was very pleased with what they ordered, specially the Grilled Cheese Sandwich and the Strawberry Lemonade. We ended up spending about $12 per person with no extra drunks, which seems very reasonable price for a fresh seafood restaurant by the beach. read more

A cozy place to eat. The chowder was very good. Savory, thick and creamy without the rich dairy sweetness like another prominent establishment known for their chowder on the coast. I had the petite fried oysters. I have only had oysters s couple of times and felt brave. These were fresh and tender, bite size oysters, lightly breaded and very good. I would not hesitate to eat them again. I had a party member who ordered the Mandarin Chicken Salad. It was a huge salad with a generous portion of romaine lettuce, Mandarin oranges and crunchy noodles. The chicken breast was unfortunately heavily breaded and very dry but the server was quick to deliver some ranch dressing to dip those bites.
