Overall I seen this place a few times I went to the wharf and I can't believe I chose this over Boudin....the service is average, workers seem like they don't want to be there. The sprite was flat, thankfully they addressed it. The good, the clam chowder is not too bad. The clams are actually huge which I can respect. The downfall was the bread bowl was heated or toasted, such a bummer. Plain cold bread bowl with hot chowder. I will give the clam chowder bowl a 3/5. The crab chowder was terrible. It was super sweet. I had to put tobasco to make it flavorful. Another cold bread bowl. I give this 1.3/5 The saving grace is the the fish and chips. Fish was tender and juicy a the garlic fries were good. However the fish had so much oil it was almost biting into oil tenders. 3.7/5 Overall I won't come back and I will just stick to Boudjn.

False advertising, rude service, not clean. Do not go here. They say on the top of the roof happy hour specials and then they don't honor them. They argue with you and they don't really care that they're ripping you off.

This is a solid place in the fisherman's warf. We stopped here for a snack and some drinks between some attractions and really enjoyed it. There were several beers on tap and a full bar. The only (very small) complaint I have is that the bartender was also the server for the bar area, and he seemed a little overworked. He was super attentive, but it would have been better if he had some more help. He seemed to be having an issue with one of the mixers, and it was cool to see the attention he was paying to the quality of the drinks. We had a few beers and some of the garlic fries which were great. I do want to include one anecdote, the second bartender (the main guy got some help) was shaking a mix and splashed some of what he was making in our direction. Nothing got close to us but he was super apologetic and even offered us free beer, but we couldn't do that to the guy!

I really liked this spot! It is a nice outside restaurant with very quick service! We had a group of 6 and all of our food was ready within 10 minutes. I got the clam chowder which was very good! The bread was soft and crisp. It did not have bacon in it, which is perfect for me because I don't eat pork and it is hard to find that a lot. Another person in my group got a smash burger that she really enjoyed. She said it was juicy and a good size. The prices are a bit high, but that is expected given the touristy location. I would come back again and try other menu items if I were in the area.

My sisters and I were here recently last week on Saturday during an outing in SF. We came across here when we were trying to look for a lunch spot. Service was great, food was decent. We shared fish and chips and crab chowder. The fish and chips were pretty solid, good enough for me and my sisters to share. The crab chowder was a different story; as much as it looked good, the taste had a hint of San Francisco tapwater. At least we finished it though. The ambiance was pretty solid too. Not packed like other places around us. Overall, part of me might come back again.

This place is the bomb diggity!! Peel and eat garlic shrimp with sourdough bread soaking in the sauce!! Dungarees crab sandwich with fries! Even the fries are delicious! The most friendly people working here! A great find for my birthday trip to San Francisco!!

So glad that The Chowder Hut is still open. Seeing a lot of restaurants closed on The Wharf nowadays. We made it simple this time around...Lobster Chowder and Lobster Sandwich Both were tasty and fed three of us. The sourdough bowl was so fresh and soft. I just started eating that with butter and I was satisfied. But that was only the beginning...Next came the lobster fest! The chowder had a nice, peppery kick to it. My only gripe is to leave out the corn. The lobster sandwich was also excellent and had a lot of lobster. My business partner and I had a few hours to burn and decided to drop by the wharf before leaving. I've walled by here many times but never stopped before. Today we had limited time so decided to make it a quick lunch. It was 11am on a Tuesday so it wasn't busy at all. The bartender is also the server and she was super helpful and friendly. We got our drinks (thankfully they have Coke products) quickly and ordered a few minutes later. The tables were pretty comfortable and surprisingly the chairs as well. It's pretty simple inside and the menu is pretty simple. I ordered the clam chowder and spicy fish sandwich. It comes with fries but I didn't want them. My partner ordered a chicken sandwich. The call chowder was pretty good. I liked that it was piping hot. Good flavor and I would order it again. The bread is real thick for the sandwich. I liked the bread and the fish was a thick cut. The breading was good but unfortunately no seasoning on the fish. A little salt and pepper even would go a long way. It wasn't bad but just would have been nice to be seasoned. I'd come back here though. It's a good deal for a quick bite to eat.

Since it was my first time in SF, my friends really wanted to take me to get a famous clam chowder bread bowl. Many locals had suggested the Chowder Hut and I'm glad they did! The place is a cute little spot by the Pier and is nearby Boudin. My friends and I ordered the clam chowder bread bowl which was $13.99 which wasn't too bad! Service was just ok in my opinion. The place wasn't too crowded but it was a little diffciult to get the attention of the staff at times. I had to walk up to them a few times and ask for napkins, to go boxes, etc. The clam chowder was good but my only complaint was that it was not hot at all. It was just warm which I did not like. Had it been hotter, it would have been 1000% better in my opinion. Place wise, this seemed like a chill place for people to grab a drink and food. However, the restrooms were disgusting. It's a public restroom located outside the restuarant and it was NOT clean.

My friends and I were busing fisherman's wharf and pier 39 area and got hungry along the way. I ordered the clam chowder which had the creamy texture I love. However the flavor did fall a hit short for me but the bread bowl from boudin made up for it. My friend ordered the calamari which came with fries and both were pretty crispy. The service was fairly quick and there's indoor and outdoor seating. I wouldn't go out of my way here but not bad for being around the area.

Maryori was an amazing server! Bowl of their Original Clam Chowder and lemonade was the best $20 I've spent in this city! Very touristy area yet many customers appeared to be local. I highly recommend this place - very chill, close to the water and good people working here.

I understand that we are unable to eat there bc we bought clam chowder somewhere else. That's fine, we were going to eat somewhere else. But my 3-year old niece is allergic to seafood and wanted to buy chicken strips from them and one employee insisted us to leave when all we wanted was to buy chicken strips so that my niece could have something to eat. So fuckin' rude!!!! read more

This restaurant was dirty but the food was great. If you don't mind the outdoor unclean seating situation, this restaurant is for you. I spent about $120 worth of food for me and my family and once I ordered, it was ready fairly quick, which was good because we were starving. The clam chowder and the shrimp were wonderful. Fairly priced. read more

Such a disappointment. First time in SF and I should have turned far away from here. Food was very bland. I ordered a couple things to try and all of it was bleh. My friends ordered other entres and felt the same. No flavor and just not what we expected at all. So sad. Go to the carts!! read more

This place is so amazing from top to bottom. The bloody marys are super tasty and the alcoholic raspberry lemonade was spectacular. We ordered the Fish Tacos and the Crab Chowder. Both were some of the best dishes we had ever eaten. The tortillas tasted like they were homemade with a buttery flavor and roasted texture. The crab chowder is my new favorite chowder, chunks of corn and a little sweet, faaaantastic. If you're at the warf this should be your first stop!! Prices were great too! read more

Came on a Tuesday around 7pm and decided to dine in the full service area. We sat at the bar. We ordered the crab melt, spicy fish sandwich, and clam chowder bread bowl. The crab melt was good, but the fish sandwich was soggy and the bread was cold and tasted slightly stale. I wish they would have toasted it. The clam chowder was a disappointment. It wasn't creamy and had a watery consistency to it which made it very bland. I upgraded the side of fries to garlic fries and requested them to make it extra crispy. They delivered extra soggy garlic fries slabbed with a ton of butter. The service was nonexistent even though we were in the "full service" dining area. Definitely not coming back. read more

It was nothing special and I was bummed that I chose the crab chowder instead of clam chowder. For the soup, calamari, and a soda It was $21...so not worth it! I did notice that they will let you sample the soups if you can't decide, I just noticed too late :( great for people watching but not so much if you're hoping to get a good fix for clam chowder in a sour dough bowl from San Fracisco! read more

After being told at Boudin's down the road to expect about an hour of waiting, we stopped here and was served a pretty good clam chowder in a ( Boudin ) bread bowl in just a few minutes. Nice outside seating also. Not maybe the most superb chowder, but it was good enough and it cost less than elsewhere, and we had nice service, unlike at Tarantino's nearby. read more

Service and atmosphere were great! I had the clam chowder in a bread bowl. Bread bowl was fabulous, the chowder was okay. I've had better. It was worth the stop I had the chance to watch a live performer across the street while I ate and had a cold beer. Which you need after all the walking! When I'm back in town I'd like to try a different place on the wharf. There's millions to choose from! read more

OMG no! Overpriced and that was NOT a half pound of shrimp! Too much pepper, slimy and just plain gross! Was way better on our last trip 6 years ago. Clam chowder had.... well, the potato soup was okay. Yes I had like two clams in my chowder. So what exactly did I just pay for? Should have saved some money and had a quality burger across the street at In n out! read more

We went to the Chowder Hut last weekend when we were in Fisherman's Wharf. It is located right across from Alioto's and The Grotto and all the sidewalk food venders. As we were with family and had walked a couple of miles, the thought of getting some crab sandwiches, Clam chowder and other great seafood was dashed by the mobs of tourists that filled the sidewalk. Then my Aunt spotted the Chowder Hut. "It even has tables" she shouted happily. And indeed it did as well as those heaters that keep all the outside diners warm. Everybody in our party ordered the Clam Chowder in the Sourdough Bread Bowl, and we orders the Fried Calamari, and another ordered the shrimp over bread. All of the items are displayed out front in a glass case and they all looked delicious. So we sat at our tables feeling great that we actually found some outdoor seating in San Francisco's Fisherman's Wharf. Then the food came. The Chowder was the worse chowder that I've even had and that is saying something. The Sourdough Bread bowl was unbelieveable small, not the bread bowl itself, but the amount of dough that was scooped out only allowed and inch and a half of the chowder which we finished before the other dishes came. So we were left with bread. The shrimp were broiled with a spicy, as in hot, with a lot of salt added. Not good. And the calamari portion was small but edible. I mean how can you screw up fried calamari. The bill for 4 was $80.00 and we were sill hungry. The place is incredibly overpriced for what we got. The Chowder Hut is for people who have to sit down and rest their feet, However, if you want to taste what Fisherman's Wharf has to offer, don't be afraid to go across the street to Sabellas and Aliotos whose sidewalk servers offer up much better food. It is not cheap by any means but the quality will stay with you long after the price. read more

The first time I've been there the guys there were really friendly. I ordered the spicy fish sandwich and it was awesome. The fish tasted fresh and flakey, and the slaw was just the right amount of sweet and creamy. Beware of the peppers, though. They will add a few chest hairs to your hairless chest. :-) Yup, they were that spicy. For $10 with french fries, the price was ok. I'll have to try the other items on the menu next time I'm there. read more

The prices are decent, but the chef needs to SEASON THE FOOD!!! Add some Old Bay seasoning, you're cooking seafood ffs! If that's too extreme, please start with the basics, salt and pepper! You can tell the food has a decent flavor, but it's not seasoned. read more

Really liked that they had actual food in a case so you could see what you get. Had peel and eat shrimp and it was really messy and delicious. Just how I like it. Amazing taste and flavor. Good seating selection behind glass so you aren't bothered by the birds and covered by the shade. But still good people watching while you enjoy your meal. Very friendly and helpful staff. Lots of smiles and help deciding what to order with so many good choices. Next time getting the whole crab. read more

This restaurant is very nice looking but the food was bland and not worth the money spent. My husband got fish & chips and the serving size was almost a child meal size. I got the fish tacos. The fish was not good and I had to use salt and lemon to help me actually eat it. We got the grilled shrimp to share and they looked tasty but once we peeled off the shell they were completely bland with no flavoring at all despite the outside being very well seasoned. Good customer service but Would not recommend. read more

Slow service but waitress was super nice . Allowed dogs which was cool and they even gave our dog a water bowl! only reason for two star review was that I got food poisoning afterwards. Me and my fiancé both got super sick a few hours after eating either the shrimp or chowder bowl (we split) so not sure which one got us sick read more

I ate here last weekend and woke up at 3am sick as a dog. The food tasted good but obviously something wasn't right. Unfortunately, I won't eat there again. I couldn't say whether it was bad fish, the cleanliness or anything else but I definitely was sick. read more

Meh. Calimari was over done rubbery, fish and French fries was good, and a good deal. the half pound shrimp sucked, had 2 slices of stale sour dough. No crisp no crunch just old sour dough. Most people had a disappointed look on their faces after eating the clam chowder. Left the sour dough bowl nearly untouched. read more

Best calamari I've ever had, reasonably priced and served in front of a fire pit by a fantastic bartender (He scurries around the place to deliver drinks/food and check on customers - you can tell he really cares!). Great food, great atmosphere and great service! read more

We had the crab chowder...a little heat with a creamy crabby goodness you won't soon forget, all in a warm, crusty and soft sourdough bowl. Yup, call your mom...you've had the best chowder west of Boston. Oh, and do yourself a favor - have the garlic fries. They're just about the best the west coast can offer. Yup - we meant it. Be prepared for soup explosion with every bite! The pan-fried dumplings were probably the best we've ever had. Not only were they delicious, but their unique shape made them stand out from the usual versions we've tried elsewhere. The steamed dumplings were equally impressive, soft, tender, and just as juicy. You'll want to bite into them carefully, unless you're like my husband and decide to pop the whole thing into your mouth at once. Another surprise favorite was the dan dan noodles. We loved that the noodles were served warm. Most versions we've had elsewhere are closer to room temperature, so this was a very nice surprise. Once mixed together, the dish was so flavorful. Our food arrived quickly, but midway through the meal we realized we had forgotten to order a vegetable dish. We added the stir-fried eggplant which unfortunately seemed to throw off the timing a bit and didn't arrive until near the end of our meal. You'll find better restaurant ambiance than this one which is usually super busy and majority outside seating.

This restaurant is right outside Pier 39. You can't miss it. It's a big round building. I had the Clam Chowder in a sourdough bowl, which you must have at least once if you go to The City. The customer service was fast and efficient and friendly. You go up to the counter to order your food and then go and sit down and they bring it to you. My friend had the crab chowder. He liked his very much and I liked my clam chowder. We sat outside. It was a bit chilly, not unusual for SF, but there were big heaters everywhere. It was really nice. I would definitely go again someday, however there are so many good restaurants there; it may be a while before I make it around to there again because I like to try a lot of new restaurants. You can also walk over to the Penny Arcade museum. It's right next to it. read more

Came here on 4th of July place was busy, lots going on. We got a table by inside by the tv. Archer was very attentive and gave us some good local info on the city and where we should go on our vacation. He recommended some of his House favorites, which we got and enjoyed. Great experience, made us felt like we had a friend in a town when we're just visiting. Danny was also great and the 2 of them took care of the majority of the guests around us! Chowder Hut is a must-visit when you're at Pier 39. Their clam chowder is creamy, packed with tender clams, and served in a fresh sourdough bread bowl that's just perfect for soaking it all up. Chowder Hut Grill is conveniently placed at Fisherman's Wharf, so it's a good way to get some tasty clam chowder in a bread bowl during a busy day of sightseeing. We had an early lunch there, so there wasn't a crowd, service was fast, and it was easy to grab a table in the sun (It's all outside seating, which is a plus on sunny days). They said they were not serving food anymore and kicked us out. And one of my friends got the crab chowder. her exact words were "i have never tasted soup as good. this is the best soup ever" haha.
