We picked Hakka…read moreExpress which is a food truck in a large food truck park, because it was a large order and the prices were the best among the now 5-7 stable Indo-Chinese spots in the greater North Austin area. The food truck park was pretty busy with a bunch of Indian food trucks along with a variety of other cuisines. They had ample covered seating and pretty lights for ambiance. Service was fine. There's also signage that says Halal so my parents ate here as well which was super convenient. We ordered lollipop chicken, Schezwan lollipop chicken, tandoori chicken fried rice, chicken Schezwan noodles, and chicken Hakka noodles. Price came to about $65 before tax. The noodle and rice dishes came completely packed and we were really surprised and happy about that. Really amazing portions. To rate each dish: Lollipop Chicken - 9/10: These are wings to resemble lollipops, marinated in spices, and deep fried. Absolutely nostalgic and hit all the right spots. Schezwan Lollipop Chicken - 9/10: Similar to the above but tossed in a spicy Schezwan sauce. It was excellent & wifeys favorite though I prefer the original as it's crisper and dry while this is wetter. Tandoori Chicken Fried Rice - 7/10: Fried rice with pieces of tandoori chicken. This was okay and not my favorite mainly due to it being a bit dry. They did load it up with a ton of chicken though. Chicken Schezwan Noodles - 8/10: Love the color, wife's 2nd favorite. I prefer the Hakka noodles but this was a solid choice. Chicken Hakka Noodles - 9/10: Totally hit the spot with the right flavors. Milder than the rest and just what I was wanting. Overall, I liked the food. I don't eat Indo-Chinese often but I wouldn't mind ordering the chicken lollipops or Hakka noodles again. The problem at this location its very chicken-heavy. I get why there's no beef, but I do wish there was some variety with shrimp/prawn or lamb/goat.

My teenager introduced me to the place as he and his friends like it enough to often spend their own hard earned money there which says a lot. Although they were out of the meat patties he likes, he was pleased with the jerk chicken he ordered instead and I enjoyed their jerk pork. I feel like the rice could have benefitted from a bit more seasoning but I loved the plantains. For beverages we each decided to try one of their specialty beverages, Soursop and Sorrel. Realizing we were rookies when we ordered them, they were kind enough to offer us a taste of them just to be sure we liked them before paying for them which I appreciated. My teenager chose the sweet version of the Soursop while I had the Sorrel which reminded me of kambucha. This food truck is one of the most reliably open food trucks in this area. Unlike some food truck areas, this area has been developed as a nice area to not just pick up food but to stay and eat. Located in a parking lot between an apartment complex and a crossfit business, this is one of 5 or 6 food trucks in a strip with another group of 5 or 6 more food trucks across the parking lot. They have recently improved this area with lots of tables, astroturf in some areas, and both natural shade and shade structures.

Our family has deep ties to Guam as my mom is from there, and Hawaii as my dad was stationed there for many years in the air force and I was born there! I also grew up in California where access to Hawaiian / Pacific Islander food and culture is everywhere. Needless to say I was blown away! There are very few places to order a mixed plate here in Austin and this tasted the closest I've had to home in a long time. We ordered the Ohana Platter, Garlic Butter Shrimp Plate, Maui Kalbi Ribs, and Spam Musubi. Everything was hot and delicious and so so so flavorful. The finedene was an amazing touch. I wish I had gotten a chance to order a plate of red rice to complete my craving but I will definitely be back to order a catering pan of it! There's plenty of outdoor seating but little shade, so you decide if you want to brave the heat or eat in your car. The plate lunch is a classic and they do it proud here. It typically consists of a protein, a few scoops of rice and macaroni salad. I went with the Huli Huli chicken, which is more or less grilled teriyaki cooked with extra pineapple tang. They give a good amount of meat for the price. Food takes a bit of time but I appreciate them cooking it fresh. They got other classics like loco moco too!

We split a Dubai chocolate croffle as who can turn down that combination?!?! We absolutely loved it. It was a golden base with a good mix of flavors on top. Not too much or too little of anything. After our dinner, splitting one was just right for the two of us.

Specializing in Nepali and Himalayan cuisine, the food truck introduced me to a dish I had never tried before...momos. Momos are traditional Nepali dumplings that trace their roots back centuries to the Himalayan region. Typically filled with seasoned meat or vegetables, they can be steamed, fried, served in chili sauce, or even enjoyed in a flavorful soup. Monk's Momo offers several styles, including steamed, fried, chili, and jhol (soup-based) momos. I ordered the steamed chicken momos, and they were outstanding...fresh, perfectly seasoned, and packed with flavor. The emphasis here is clearly on quality. The momos were served with a sesame-tomato dipping sauce that was deliciously bold...definitely a sauce that gets your attention. The manager was friendly and happy to explain the menu and dining options, making the experience even more enjoyable. Free parking at the food truck park is an added bonus. Courtyard seating provides a relaxed environment. This was a great introduction to Monk's Momos, and I'm already looking forward to returning to try more of the menu items.
