My wife and I had an early dinner at Christopher's on New Years Eve. It was our first time here. We started off with the baked artichoke hearts ($9) which were smothered in cheese and very good. We ordered Margaritas ($7.50 ea) which were OK, but nothing special. They were served in Boston Red Sox soda glasses which was odd, to say the least. For entrees we ordered an 8 oz. Filet Mignon ($18) and a 15 oz. Prime Rib ($22). The filet was excellent - tender, juicy, very flavorful and cooked to perfection. The prime rib was a huge disappointment. It was ordered medium rare since the waitress informed us that "rare" was with a cool, red center and I wanted a warm, red center. Well it was closer to well done than anything else. It was tough, dry, chewy and flavorless. I should have sent it back after the first bite, but the place was busy and I was hungry. I did mention it to one of the servers after we had finished and her response was that next time I should try the filet. Both entrees came with baked potato and asparagus, which were very good. Presentation on the plate was excellent. For desert we had Tiramisu and Cheesecake. ($6.50 ea.). Both were very good and the presentation again was superb. Despite the restaurant being very busy, service was excellent. The atmosphere leaves something to be desired, however. It's extremely noisy and it was difficult to carry on a conversation across the table. It's a shame more isn't done to improve the acoustics and provide a bit of privacy in this wide open room. It would be a nice place for a quiet, romantic dinner. The way it is now, it's noisier than having something to eat under the stands at Fenway Park. I haven't given up on this place yet. I'll give them one more shot. But if the kitchen can't turn out a piece of meat the way you want it cooked, then it's time to look elsewhere. UPDATE 6/1/15: Gave Christopher's another try tonight. We ordered an 8oz. fillet which was cooked perfectly and a half rack of ribs that were absolutely delicious. Margaritas on the rocks ($10) were big drinks with great taste. The warm, crusty bread with strawberry butter before dinner is excellent. Presentation is superb! The place was pretty full but only one waitress on duty who was running her head off but doing an excellent job of staying on top of everything. Update 4/7/18: Had 12 oz. prime rib tonight. Ordered it rare. It was not as their menu describes "rare - a cool, red center". It was red with warm center, but acceptable for rare. Flavor was OK and texture was OK - not the best I've had, but far from the worst. It was a bit bland tasting and pretty chewy. It's served with au jus and horseradish sauce on the side. Wine is still steep at $6 a glass. And the noise level is still horrendous. It's loud enough to keep me from going back unless something is done to improve the acoustics. It's impossible to carry on a conversation with others at your table without yelling. The HVAC vents in the ceiling and the area around them are blackened with grime. The oak floor is damaged beyond repair from unprotected chair legs grinding into it and it also appears dirty. Makes me wonder what the conditions are like behind the scenes. Prime rib dinner for two, with a shared appetizer, two glasses of wine and two deserts plus tip came to $97. Although the place was packed, service was superb! read more

Christopher's Third Street Grille - Half rack of ribs - delicious! - New American Near Me - Dover, New Hampshire

What a wonderful surprise when we discovered this place yesterday. We arrived about 445pm and it was pretty quiet. We got a seat at the bar and started off with one of the flat breads. It was very tasty and a large pizza considering it was an appetizer. The service was fantastic. Very fun and energetic staff. Around 5:30 pm the place was full with a wait. I had the swordfish which was on special with the garlic mashed potatoes and green beans. Everything was cooked just right! My girlfriend got the chicken boursin and she enjoyed it very much. I tried this place out with a friend after walking around downtown looking for a quiet place for conversation. We found it with this place. When we first walked in, we had to wait a bit for anyone to notice us, but that was fine. They were a bit busy. When someone did take notice, she was very friendly and apologetic. While she cleaned off a table, another person came up to see if we had been helped. Again, both were friendly. I had the Johnny Greek flatbread. It was only $10 and was double the size I expected it to be. It wasn't the best, but it was pretty standard. I'd like to see them cut the portion size in half and make the dish a little more appealing with the ingredients. The crust was great, crunchy and thin. My water never went empty, even after we paid and were in deep conversation, our waitress came back and asked if we were sure about not wanting a refill. I especially appreciated this. I have witnessed too many times that once the check comes and the bill is paid, it doesn't matter how enthralled in the conversation you are or how empty your drink is, you are already gone in their mind. The casual, take your time vibe have the European vibe where meal times are to be slow and enjoyed by the company. read more

My husband and I had lunch around 1:30; not only was the food amazing but the service was phenomenal! We got the bacon wrapped scallops as an appetizer, I had the cobbler sandwich with fries, he had the BBQ bacon burger with sweet potato fries and to top all that off we split a piece if peanut butter pie. We love Christopher's. The grilled salmon is my husband's favorite and I love the pan seared scallops. The bruchetta is a great app. Decent beer selection (some off season) and good service. The reasonable prices, casual, but nice atmosphere keep us going back. read more

Fine food at a reasonable price. From their online menu, I was expecting steak and seafood. They had that and more. My family enjoyed their steaks and seafood; I enjoyed a well-prepared beef stroganoff. The wine list has variety and is well priced. The servings err comfortably on the side of plenty, not so much that everyone took home a doggy bag, but more than most of us could eat. The service is friendly and efficient and the surroundings are attractive. It's a place I would happily return to. read more

Great wait staff can't say enough good things about how we were treated they are the reason we will be back! Food was good. . Not great but a solid good. Had the rib eye, was a little tough and I'm not sure it hit 12 ounces but none the less was cooked properly. The veggies needed some work and the rice was ok. We'll be back as some of the other dishes looked interesting. Prices are very reasonable but I'd pay more for a little better quality. You guys are right on the edge of great.. keep at it read more

Went to dinner with my husband on Saturday evening and, although it was pretty full we were seated promptly and courteously. The waitress, Heather was polite and helpful and served us right away. Were pleasantly surprised at how quickly our dinner was served and we enjoyed the hot rolls and strawberry butter. At our request they brought more. While the soup was not exactly what was expected our main dishes were very good. My chicken dish was presented beautifully and was overall delicious and one of the best dinners I've had in Dover. My husband ordered what really should have been a lunch serving and thus not quite enough for him but was a very good fish sandwich. I would definitely recommend this to friends and is a place I will bring out of town guests. read more

Perhaps the worst customer service I have ever experienced. The hostess / greeter was rude an unaccommodating literally turning away a large party of 7 when the restaurant was not busy. The reason being was some policy, supposedly instituted by ownership regarding the combining of tables. We Had eaten at the restaurant in the past. While we found the food acceptable, it was far from exceptional and certainly worth the aggravation we experienced. read more

I'm impressed at how Christopher's has managed to substantially differentiate itself from the Seacoast restaurant crowd by filling its menu with just slightly tweaked restaurant fare. Everyone has chicken...but with pecans or boursin? That's pretty cool! The food has been consistently good; a minor annoyance is that their beer list can get out of sync with their taps. Prices and service don't detract. The dining room is hidden from view on the street; it's a lot bigger than it looks. read more

I'm downgrading my review. I really want to like this place more but I've been to Christopher's a couple of times lately and the food is just not up to snuff. The pasta is routinely overcooked and the chicken piccata tastes flat and has like six capers on it. It's still a decent enough place and I like the atmosphere but the food is just okay. If they were in Boston or New York, I'd have to give them no more than 2 stars but there are only so many places to eat in Dover, NH so the bar is lower. read more

Visiting Dover for the weekend - stopped into Christopher's on a whim. The salmon fetuccini was amazing! -- and so were the waitresses. They were full of positive energy! Will definitely stop in here again the next time I'm in town. read more

This place is delicious with great service! Also the complimentary bread with some type of flavored butter (strawberry??) was a great surprise. My husband and I both got burgers and they were huge and one of the top tasting burgers we have had. I definitely recommend. Took our oldest daughter for dinner last night and decided on the Third Street Grill. When we arrived we were told it would be 25 minutes to seat. We headed into the bar area and it was busy. They had one main bartender and the service was slow and took 15 minutes to get waited on. Finally got our drinks and while standing around and talking noticed there were open tables and still a wait? We ended up sitting in the bar area and was waited on by bartender. The bartender was friendly and the food was good. My wife had the Lobster Mac Cheese and loved it as it had a creamy Smokey taste to it. My daughter had the Filet Mignon and it was perfectly cooked. I had the large Prime Rib and it was delicious. This was finished off with the Lava cake. Overall we liked this place, but with competition they need to improve the service in the bar area and wait time when they have open tables. read more

Great little find in Dover. Went Friday night and waited about 30-minutes for table. Stephanie was our server and she was as sweet as can be. I had the pork chop which was tender and flavorful, spouse had Chicken Marsala which he said he would order again. Service was a bit slow due to thin wait staff - but we weren't in a hurry. Many restaurants in the Dover/Portsmouth area have been going crazy with their prices and not making their food worth the cost (see Kelley's Row or Blue Latitudes for examples of this problem). Christopher's, on the other hand, is reasonably priced and has good, solid food. Highly recommended for a date, a dinner out with friends, or a business get together. read more

My wife and I decided to try Christopher's Sunday brunch and were very pleased with the quality, quantity and price of the food and the service. She had the southern biscuits and gravy with home fries and I had a basic breakfast (2 eggs to order, home fries and toast) to which I added the applewood smoked bacon which was perfectly cooked. My eggs were cooked to order better than I expected given past breakfast experiences which generally do not meet my expectations. My wife has had lunch on a couple of occasions at Christoper's and had positive experiences. We eat out often and have our favorite places close to home and it's great to have another option downtown to enjoy an excellent dining experience. The service was courteous and prompt from the beginning to the end of our meal. The Bloody Mary cocktails were excellent and the home fries which are typically disappointing were very good (not over or undercooked or bland as is often the case for this particular breakfast item). We are looking forward to coming back for brunch as well as trying the lunch and dinner menus as well. We would unhesitatingly recommend this restaurant to our friends and family. read more

Tried it for the first time, based on a suggestion to try their Sangria. Sangria was delish. Hot bread with strawberry butter was something unexpected but brought to our table. Wonderful flavor in both! Had the crab cakes which were good, not the best I've had, but good nonetheless. My husband had the Garbage burger, which he thoroughly enjoyed along with Guiness. Christopher's is my favorite restaurant in Dover - they have an extensive menu to choose from, and I have never had a bad meal there. The staff is friendly and attentive making you feel like you are the most important person in the place. I love their Mediterranean Shrimp, the flatbread pizzas, the filet, and they always have a fresh fish selection (the swordfish is to die for!!) Our first choice when deciding where to dine is Christohper's - sometimes multiple times in one week! read more

I have been to Christopher's a few times in the past and liked it well enough. Unfortunately, my most recent visit will likely be my last. The House and Caesar salads seemed to lack in fresh, quality ingredients, and the main courses had no flavor beyond a gross overabundance of salt, never mind that a day after the fact I realized I didn't even receive what I ordered - I ordered the Cajun Chicken sandwich, but instead got the Pesto Chicken sandwich. There also was a fairly constant barrage of flies for the duration of our visit. Gross. On the plus side, the fries were decent, the bread had good flavor (although it was close to not being baked through) and the water didn't taste like a swimming pool, as so many restaurant's water does. Finally, if you like your Captain & Coke to taste like a shot of Captain, hold the Coke, Christopher's is your place! read more

The food was OK.. nothing special. My chicken dish seemed overly heavy when the description made it sound lighter. My husband ordered the lobster mac n' cheese and the lobster portion was very small - I would not recommend this dish. The staff is very friendly and the drinks were good. read more

Below average visit to Christopher's, normally have nothing to complain about this time was very different. Waited about 45 minutes with a party of 4 only to be seated in the bar section where the bartender was our waitress. She maybe came over to us twice once to give us waters and then to give us our food. The hostess seemed to be doing most our waitresses work. The food was nothing like what it usually is. I preferred the lemon rosemary chicken. The risotto was dry and over cooked like bad microwaved minute rice, the vegetable medley looked straight out of a freezer bag and the chicken was nothing to rave about. Maybe next time. read more

My family made reservations for an important celebration at Christoper's Third Street Grill. We showed up ahead of time to be assured of the reserved round table for our large gathering. The hostess confirmed our reservation for a round table and we waited for the rest of our party, who arrived on time! When seated we were placed at a crowed rectangular table. We asked about the reservations for the round table and were told that another party had called and the table was reserved for them. We ate at this crowded table. The round table remained empty the whole time we were there. I am aware that this may seem trivial to some reading this commentary, but the setting at the crowded table changed the whole birthday celebration for my family. My disappointment is in being told one thing by Christoper's and having them do another thing all together. Sincerely, planning our next family gathering elsewhere! read more
