With hesitation I write this review because I did enjoy Christy and I thought she had great service and was a really nice person. Based on all the great reviews, I decided to make an appointment with Christy. Getting an appointment wasn't that difficult but I did leave her a message, waited 3 days - no call so I ended up calling her again to get the appointment. Christy was very friendly and personable. I loved the fact that she was easy to talk to and seemed like she understood what I wanted. i went for a full hair color and a haircut. She quoted the price at $70 for hair color and $50 for hair cut. She only takes cash or check which was also inconvenient but wasn't a big enough deal to take off a star. Hair color: I expressed that I was trying to get away from the reds and wanted to go more brown. I know this isn't the easiest especially because I have naturally dark hair. We ended up picking a light medium brown color which was suppose to make my hair a darker brown. She did a great job of coating all my hair with the dye and even went as far to put Vaseline around my face so that the hair dye wouldn't dye my skin; which by the way was awesome. So the color came out nice, it was still in the reds but I am okay with it only because I know it's hard to dye naturally black hair brown without bleaching it first. The disappointing part was that my grays were still very visible; which is why I was dying my hair in the first place. So minus a star. Haircut: I have long hair down to my mid back. I came in with a picture and explained that I wanted some layers but not too much, wanted a U shape on the back, told her to cut off as much as she needed to cut off the dead ends. She said ok and started to cut my hair. I didn't pay too much attention because I just trusted that she knew what she was doing. I read a magazine while she cut my hair. After she washed my hair she said she would half straighten and half curl my hair so I said ok. After she was done I looked in the mirror and it looked good but it was also styled so it was difficult to say. After the shower: This is where the true test is. You know you got a good haircut when you've washed your hair and your hair looks just as good as it did at the salon. In this case - it was a big fat negative. I brushed my wet hair and looked in the mirror, the ends were all jagged and different lengths, not layered lengths but like bad hair cut lengths. I then decided to style it hoping that it would turn out better. Dried and straightened my hair, still jagged. The front looked just as bad, the hair cut was not 3 dimensional meaning all the layers were all different lengths and was not cut properly. Frustrating. Minus another star. At this point I had the choice to call Christy back to have her try fixing my hair or just take it as a loss and move on to the next stylist. Big dilemma...I decided to take it as a loss and try a different stylist because if she wasn't able to cut my hair the first time I rather not chance having her try to figure it out the second time. Reading her reviews again I realized that most of the reviews were from men. Maybe a couple female reviewers but mostly men. I also read a filtered review which I did not see before where the reviewer mentions that Christy is a Vidal Sassoon Barber not a cosmetologist. If I had read that review before I probably would have not made the appointment. All in all, I believe Christy is a great hairstylist for men and maybe women with short hair. In my opinion as much as I thought Christy was a great person she was not able to cut my long hair. It is probably one of the worst haircuts I've gotten in a long time. I don't even want to give a star for this...but hear me out here. The stars I gave are for the manner in which I was welcomed, and the way my hair was washed and then how I was encouraged to come back...and share my review. I went to Christy based on the reviews from all the people who raved about her. I LOVE YELP and I use it exclusively because I have moved around a lot and rely on local reviews. Honestly, I'm going to feel really bad to give this negative review because she made me feel very welcome and I literally got the BEST hair wash from her assistant Lisa I have ever ever had. I walked into her salon with a perfect bob. I went because it was just a little too long and my bangs were getting in my eyes. So a general 'cleanup' was needed. She even commented on how nice my bob was and how cute my hair was because I curl it to the back to make loose ringlets. She was nice during the haircut and chatted with me and asked me questions which is nice. No one likes sitting in silence in the chair. She also asked me many times what I wanted her to do with my hair. I know her first language isn't English, but the English she speaks is really good. I said I prefer the sides long and the back just needs to be cleaned up and shortened a little. She agreed with me. Half way through the cut, and I've had wet and dry cuts before, she was chopping away at the back and sides nearer to the back like she was trying to fix a mistake. She then pulled out the thinning sheers and started chopping more and she said 'I know you like the curly look but I'm going to do it this way for you it will look nice.' Uh. Ok? When I got home after my cut I looked closer at the back and even asked my husband what he thought. he said 'Did you ask her for the choppy look?'. My hair looks perfect from the front today - freshly washed and styled by myself one day after my haircut with her. Although I did have to pull out my smaller curling iron to finish the back and make it look ok. What she did to the back of my hair I have NO idea but I can only guess that she felt rushed near the end because a client was waiting in the second chair with wet hair, she has no clue how to cut Caucasian/naturally blonde hair, or she has never ever ever cleaned up a bob before in her life. I will give her the benefit of the doubt and I truly believe that the reviews on here are genuine, I would just caution that for $50 I could actually get my hair cut at one of the better salons like Aveda and have a junior do a better job than she did on my hair. I did give a tip at the end but that was in hopes that it would go to her assistant who washed my hair so amazingly. I will have to stick this haircut out until the back grows in, but I will not be returning here. Ever. I would also like to mention there is no place for you to hang your coat or place your hand bag while you're in the salon. It was raining when I arrived so I had a large rain coat on. I had to place it on the floor! I am still shaking hair out of it. read more

UPDATE: Christy has moved! The new place is bigger and more convenient. More importantly, she's still the best. The worst part about writing this review is that I'm moving out of the area and won't be able to access Christy as easily. I discovered her through a roommate who stumbled upon other Yelp reviews. Until that point, I was stuck bouncing around different places that never really gave me what I wanted. I have five cowlicks, pretty straight hair, and no outstanding hair history to tap into for style advice. I'd been searching for someone with decent training who could actually use some self-initiated artistic creativity. Christy did that and more. For $30 (we would tip a well-earned $5), she included a thorough shampoo and conditioning (before and after the cut) that nearly put me to sleep each time. Christy provided excellent advice for how to deal with my cowlicks, and I left with the most unique and best-looking cut I've had in my life. Worth every dime. I'd drive more than 20 minutes to visit Christy without hesitation. Now I'll have to consider the drive from LA every six weeks or so. I don't think I'll ever be able to trust anyone more than her. read more

We decided to go short because I wanted to change up my hair a bit. When she was done, the only thing I could say was "It's short, its short!" (Sorry Christy!). She is the best! Best hairstylist I've ever had! I've tried sooo many places here in Bay Area - and never go back to any of them more than once. I'm not picky, I just know when it looks right and feels right. Her personality - awesome! She makes you feel really comfortable and welcome. If you have an urgent haircut/hair color need - she will find a spot for you and help you out. Checked two "last moment call" times! Hair color - awesome! Color is always exactly the way I want it! I'm a dark chocolate brunette - dying hair to light brown with caramel blonde highlights. Always perfect! And the best thing - hair doesn't look damaged or feels like it! Only for that you can give her a 5 stars! Haircut - awesome! The most important thing for me is how you hair look after you washed it first time after haircut! Many places will cut you hair and style it nice and you are really pleased with it until you'll wash your hair for the first time. After that - good buy awesome-perfect hair and hello reality... Well, not the case here! I have a shoulder-length hair with layers. After hair cut/hair color I'm asking her just to blow dry it - no styling needed - and it does look really good! I'm not a type of person who like to spend more than 15 min styling hair at home. The either the better! And now Christy opened her own place - it's on El Camino Real in Mountain View. Just to update, Christy has struck out on her own and started her own salon! I believe it's called Hair Concepts and it's on 1740 W El Camino Real in Mountain View. It's a spacious and clean studio. Very bright with lots of natural sunlight coming in, but the AC keeps it cool and comfortable, and with good music pumping, it's a very pleasant experience! Christy is just as awesome as always. I've never gone wrong with her cuts. I still drive 45 minutes out of San Fran because nobody does it better than her. I've tried someone else in the city once. It wasn't bad, but Christy just does everything better somehow. And she's still as sweet as ever. You can't help but love her. Helpful tip: I drove right past her place today. It's easy to miss going north on ECR. Heading north it's just past Cubby Cuts for kids. There's a small parking lot there and it's on the right-hand side. Southbound, it's just past El Monte Ave on the left-hand side. read more

I have been to Christy's twice in the past two months. First time for a hair cut and the second time for highlights. Loved the experience on each of those occasions. I have NOW found my hair stylist in the bay area. When I first when to Christy, my haircut was a mess. The bangs were weird and I looked positively hideous if I didn't pin it up. After the visit, I have finally been able to "let my hair down" -- Literally!!! The highlights turned out perfect as well. Couldn't have been happier. I'm going to have to agree with Veronica Y. I have shoulder length hair and tried Christy on a whim as I live near her new location in Mountain View. She did a quick cut for me and it looked pretty good when she flat ironed it, but it has failed the shower test. Now, the layers look steplike on the right side instead of blended. I've never had my hair look like this before. I'll be going back to my regular stylist to get it fixed once it grows out a bit more. Until then, there will be a lot of ponytail action! She seems super nice and she does seem to have a lot of male clients (I see them when I walk by) so maybe that is her specialty. She is a lot cheaper than my usual stylist, but I am willing to pay more to get the results I want. read more

I live in SoCal and came up to NorCal for the summer to work. I usually go to a family friend who works at SuperCuts back home. I won't get a haircut at Supercuts unless she's doing it, so i'm not really used to paying a lot of money at a salon, but with a review at HQ in Washington DC coming up, I decided that the money would be worth ensuring against the ruination of my hair. Christy was very nice. She didn't force me into unnecessary chatter and she really worked my hair, which had grown into a long, unmanageable mane after not cutting it for three months. My hair's also really thick (i'm Filipino), so it took a while to wash it, comb it, dry it, and straighten every lock, but Christy was very patient and diligent. She blended my layers perfectly and got my hair to be a lot less heavy while still keeping it a good length. It looks very neat. I now understand why people pay more for salons. Usually i end up looking like Joan Jet, but this cut is much sleeker and professional. Very happy, despite paying about $20 more than i'm used to. read more

Christy has cut my hair several times now and every time, I walk away feeling like a rock star. I'm super picky about who does my hair (I did research for 2 weeks before picking a place to go to when I moved here) and I also always, always bring photos of what I want and what I don't want. Christy is awesome about working with me and my hair to give me exactly what I want. Once I left after she finished cutting my hair and I realized that I wanted the back a little shorter - walked back in 15 minutes later and she was super cool about cutting it to what was more comfortable. She cut 6 months growth off, thinned it, so I'd have "more body", which I have plenty of, it lays like straw now, and it's choppy. I was looking for a good hair stylist in Mountain View and came across Chrisy Hair Stylist based on the great reviews she has on yelp. Stupid enough of me that I should have noticed she doesn't even have a 4 star review which is kind of wired on yelp!!! I was really happy with my finding and got an appointment with her; she was really friendly in person. I asked her for a high light and cut. I can't believe I was deceived by all the super positive reviews on yelp. She tried her best to give me a high light but at the end the bleach burned my hair and all frizzy at the end of my hair, plus the color was not even close to what I asked for. :(( It is going to take a long time for my hair grow back to normal! Even my haircut was not close to Vidal Sason Technique if you know enough about that technique. I was so disappointed that I looked at her license and noticed she is only a barber and she doesn't even have a cosmetology license, what the he**!!!! This is definitely a complete fraud! I am not sure how these people get to work without license! I will never go back to her for sure. read more

Like many others, I've followed Christy from her past location to her current (Edward's Salon). She has been cutting my hair for over 5 years, and continues to impress me every time I get my haircut from her. Her keen attention to detail, focus on customer satisfaction, and perfectionist approach in giving me the exact cut I want time every time keeps me coming back and a very satisfied customer. Her rates are very fair, especially for a professionally trained stylist. And what I can really appreciate is despite many years of experience as a professional hair stylist for men and women, she continues to brush up on her skills through annual training (via Vidal Sassoon) to keep up with the latest styles. I don't think there's a style of cut she can't do - I've had her cut from plain crew cuts, to Hong Kong/Japanese style cuts. She's done a great job on my wife's hair also. I don't know if you've read my other reviews of his hair salon experiences, but once he got a haircut by a Equadorian man during the World Cup and ended up with the biggest hole in the back of his hair that I've ever seen. Since this he is nervous about going to new places. I found Christy for my husband when he found a new job in Mountain View. Her location is great and she was able to fit him in the same day he called for an appointment. He really liked her...and will be going back. She works quickly but takes enough time to do a great job. She listened to what he asked for and it came out the closest he's ever gotten for his first time with someone. He is super pleased and I got a call on the way out that "I just got the best haircut ever." The scalp massage was wonderful...she's super friendly and made him feel at home. I have been searching for months for an amazing hairdresser and Yelp! pulled through with my search ending with Christy at Tuscany Hair Design. Christy is easy to work with because she is super friendly and sweet. She shampooed my long hair three times and then we went back to the seat to discuss what look I wanted and what styles actually would look good on me after the cut and also when it grows out. Christy was honest about the styles and gave me great tips on hair care. Christy is awesome and really talented. I've tried several other hair salons around the area and she's the one I finally settled on. My hair, at that time, was very damaged because of several hair perms and hair dyes. Christy suggested a hair cut instead of additional coloring because she was worried about my hair condition. She was the only stylist who really cared about what was best for my hair rather than pulling in a little more money. Since then I've been seeing Christy consistently and she's very talented. I have straight hair with weird cowlicks and twists. I always kept my hair long because it was easiest to just pull it back. For some reason I decide to go short which has always looked horrible with my hair going strange directions. This sweet chinese woman somehow new how to tame my wacky hair and cut it in all the right places. I love my hair cut. And will only go to her now. I honestly barely run a brush through my hair and it looks great every day. She rocks! And she is a sweet caring woman. Keep this in mind if you go to her...She is renting a chair from a tiny salon near ranch 99. So when looking for the place it isn't called Christie's at all. It is a little scary going into this tiny salon but she works magic at least with short hair cuts. Note no credit because it isn't her place. So cash or check only. LOVE IT read more
