First time visiting this Chromatic location since the old one closed on Steven's Creek. I decided to try the seasonal tropical cold brew after seeing a recent Yelp photo posted. I expected the drink to have a whipped topping, based on the photo, but my drink came out without whip. I asked the barista about it and he recommended I ask for their passion fruit whip on top and kindly added the whip. The drink is overly sour for my liking--there's a lot of lime flavor. I'm a big coffee lover and this is one of the best espresso I've had in the US. They are also roasting their coffee at the same location . I came by thinking it was a coffee shop, I stuck my head in through a door thinking it was the back of the shop. As was walking around a really nice guy named evair (probably spelled it wrong) said "hey man you looking for coffee?, we ain't a coffee shop here but I'll get you some. Come on in" he took me with him and was nice enough to pour me some of their staffs coffee. Here I was a complete stranger and all of the staff were insanely nice, he filled my cup and I was on my way. I have been coming here every week sometimes twice in a week. Today they made such a HUGE mistake that I am not sure I want to come back. First, the coffee was bland and taste off. Ordered two honey lattes with OATMILK and husband usually orders this but it tasted like nothing. Then I get the aftertaste of MILK...my husband lactose intolerant and my baby is allergic to dairy. I have to have a dairy free diet due to breastfeeding. Baby broke out in rash after breastfeeding and had stomach upset so I know it was the milk because I haven't eaten anything yet. Super disappointed ...and this is quite dangerous to confuse the milks and or add milk if you ran out of your alternative milk. read more

Yeah, I'm a regular here having recently moved to SJ and searching high and low for "good" coffee. Plenty of good bakeries in the area, but the dedicated coffee selections tend to be subpar. You'll find Chromatic in a warehouse-like coop shared with a stretch of other local businesses such as a pub and bike shop. Within Chromatic, you're met with a wall decorated with an extensive selection of their in-house blends and other baked goodies from local shops. I've had the batch brew coffee, which is rotated daily, as well as the cold brew. Both are fantastic without a hint of bitterness (I typically opt for minimal sweetness and no milk). They also are able to grind beans for you, which I tip nicely for--I hate daily grinding. All in all, for as long as I'm in SJ, Chromatic coffee is the only one that will touch my lips, lol. read more

Let me start off by saying that I'm not a huge fan of coffee. Not because of the coffee itself, but because most places don't make it right. But this place... This is one of the few places that knows what a good cup of coffee even is. The only other place I've ever found a good cup, was in a small cafe in Italy. It's a real pity that Chromatic is located so far from where I live. But now, whenever I'm in the area, I know where to go for my next caffeine fix. The service and staff have all been wonderful, and BTW, if you haven't already, try their pies. The pumpkin pie filling is top notch, while crust is on the softer bite side of the spectrum. Some people like a soft bite, others (like me) prefer a crunch, but that's just preference. This has been a real treat and a hidden gem. p.s.
