I was surprised to see a Chubby Cattle location nearby and I absolutely had to swing by for a taste. From my Niku X visit, I knew these guys are the maestros of premium meat cuts and I was spot on. My wife and I went with the $58 AYCE that included unlimited various cuts of American and Australian Wagyu beef. Most of the cuts were out of this world, with Wagyu Tongue, Full Blood Wagyu short rib and Wagyu brisket being our favorite. The marbling on those was unparalleled and 1-2 minutes on the grill and you're in wagyu heaven. Each piece would just melt in your mouth and quality was the highest across all wagyu cuts. I would dip the meat in a few of their incredible sauces and let it pretty much disappear in my mouth. Truly one of the best wagyu quality cuts that I've ever had. In addition, there is a selection of salmon and yellowtail carpaccio, as well as a few selections of ultra fresh nigiri. You order on a fun digital screen at your table and your wagyu gets delivered in no time. At a self-serve bar, there is a variety of fresh veggies, fruits, 5 kinds of soups, dumplings including lobster, as well as wagyu rice and Wagyu curry rice. Just incredible. And finally, an important person who guided us through today's culinary journey was our server Jaimie. She went above and beyond to keep us happy, deliver the wagyu cuts fast and walked us through favorites and must-tries. Jamie did all of that with kindness and a smile. Superb customer service experience. As far as ambiance, the place has very modern decor, with beautiful, contemporary finishes, which fits the overall decor of the Topanga Mall perfectly. Very nice atmosphere. I went with my parents for my mom's birthday because she loves barbecue and our server Joseph was very accommodating and fantastic. He was very helpful in making sure we didn't burn our food and answered all our stupid questions patiently. I'm a pescatarian so I usually am wary of jbbq or kbbq but they had a lot of fish options for me and the salmon was really fresh. Meat quality is too fatty. It is way too hot inside with the grill. The buffet is not very good. Service is not very efficient... lots of wasted time. The computer menu touch screen is a bit glitchy and lags to order. It's also very jarring to look at. For how much it costs it's not something I would go back to... the organization is lacking... a lot of the items we did order never made it to our table. We ordered the salmon carpaccio and it never came. Had to flag down the waiter... not the best experience. Drinks are weird... the lemonade slushy was pretty good though. Had such an amazing experience at Chubby Cattle this Saturday night! It was super busy, and seating wasn't guaranteed, but the host Serene was so kind and accommodating -- she quickly was able to check us in and made sure we were taken care of. Our server Jamie was incredible all night. She helped us sign up for the Chubby Club membership, checked on us frequently despite how packed it was, and even grilled our meat for us, which really stood out. Lewis also went above and beyond -- when we mentioned they were out of corn cheese, he personally came by our table and made sure we got plenty. Shoutout to the bussers, Cris and Mike, for keeping everything spotless and quickly clearing the space next to us so it stayed comfortable and clean. Even on one of their busiest nights, the service was top-tier. The team truly made our night -- we'll definitely be back! read more

I was so excited when I heard about this new location near me! I'd never been to one before and I had the Rowland Heights one on my list but now I don't have to go that far! Special shoutout to our server, Jamie, who made our first time experience amazing! I'm already dreaming about the next time I can go back... Boyfriend and I went on a Saturday before 6 pm and we should've expected it being their soft opening but the entrance was packed with many people trying to get on the waitlist. Even as a party of 2, our expected wait time was 2 hrs. We did end up having to wait that long before we finally got the text letting us know our table was almost ready, but luckily since it's in the mall we were able to walk and fill our time up by visiting stores. It also wasn't until our table was almost ready that the hostess decided to let us know they had complimentary milk tea for the wait. The restaurant itself did not look that big and there's a lot of shared booth seating with other parties. Our server, Jamie, was so wonderful overall and very helpful in explaining how the menu worked and started us based off what our tastes were but eventually we tried every meat on the menu. They do have a strict time limit on how long you can stay but the food consistently came quickly. We chose the gold tier items to try the A5 Wagyu cuts and let me tell you those bites were heavenly. They were so buttery and just melted in our mouths. The A5 wagyu nigiri was the perfect bite. Jamie graciously helped us cook a lot of the food which I was grateful for because we didn't know how long we were supposed to cook the different items. The self-serve bar was a little limited and I wish they had more side options, but they were yummy - I really enjoyed the vegan shumai that was stuffed with sticky rice and shiitake mushrooms and the chicken cartilage. My boyfriend thought the wagyu burger was so good that he ate the pickles in it and he typically hates pickles. I also tried their slushy machine but it was more like juice...flavor was still good though. I wish I had more room in my stomach for the drinks and dessert because their milk tea was so creamy and decadent and the egg tart was so flakey and custardy. Even after all that they offer you Melona bars and I couldn't say no to the ube flavor! By the time we finished, we were absolutely stuffed and practically had to waddle to our car. While there are still a few small kinks that could use improvement, we had an amazing experience dining here because the food was spectacular and the service from everyone there was top tier. Waited 2 hours and was never told by the host to "check in" once you get a text from Yelp saying "your table's almost ready! Head there now", so our name was removed From the waitlist. We were waiting near the restaurant since then, not under the impression that we were supposed to see the host at that time, especially since I had already confirmed my reservation via Yelp. In my experience, most restaurants who utilize yelp's waitlist will prompt people to see the host in their messages. Not sure why this chubby cattle location didn't have that specified. Either way, this could have also easily been avoided had we at least been told By the host verbally that we would need to see the host after receiving the text message. That wasn't even specified.... Apparently this is a newer location, which seems evident in how they handle their service/poor basic communication. Employees are still trying to figure out a flow. I'm a huge fan of chubby cattle, but have had exceptional service in other locations. This one was definitely a huge miss. read more

Had a rough start because of the wait and it did seem like my party was being ignored but after reading all the other reviews it kind of made sense about their system in placing parties but still was hangry about it, especially since it just opened when we went. The grill did turn off at least twice but the staff and manager were supportive and helpful to the inconvenience. Thankfully it did not last long enough for me to ask for more time at the table. The food, just SUPERB! The meat melted like butter. I was satisfied with the other items like sushi. The sides were okay, like the seaweed tasted a bit off. The miso soup was alright but can't ask for better quality since it is coming from a machine. I did want to try their daikon radish but unfortunately they did not have some that day. Wait time was reasonable - about 40 minutes on a weekday. They're a bit strict on the timed seating, but that's fine because the service and wait time for food to come out's pretty fast. As soon as we got seated, we were greeted by the best server, Kent! Kent was on top of everything from explaining everything and answering all our questions, food recommendations, and even showing us how to cook some of the meats. Our dirty plates were cleared almost instantly, as well. He constantly checked in on us and made sure everything was going great. If you're lucky, you'd get this gentleman. His attitude and work ethic was 5 stars. Customer service like his is very rare nowadays. He always kept a smile on his face, was determined to assist us, and made sure our visit was spectacular. We got the Diamond Tier. You order from a tablet - from sushi, meats, apps - we literally tried everything and it was all delicious! The A5 was A1 - quality was top tier and the bites were all buttery goodness. Even the sushi items were great! The rice, cake, veggies, fruits, drinks, and dumplings were all outside in the center of the restaurant served buffet style. Everything tasted really fresh. My favorite drink was the Jasmine milk tea. It was really good and pretty strong. Ambiance was a chill, casual vibe. Restaurant was dimly lit. Music was at a good volume. My bf and I were influenced based on social media to come and check this palce out. I feel like anywhere that features wagyu in its menu gets so much hype. We came for his birthday dinner and waited over an hour. They said the wait can be up to 2-3 hours so it can be fairly brutal. I recommend coming when you're not hungry yet, putting your name down, and doing some shopping at the mall (it's located at the Westfield). They have a tier system so you pay more to get more premium cuts of meat but even with the more premium level, there's a limit to how much you can order. We opted for the highest level and some of the items were pretty decent - it's obviously worth trying everything that's premium since you're paying for it. You order off the touch screen on the table which feels very pop-arty. Many of the orders we put in had delays and we had to remind them about certain dishes. We initially thought based on the IG video we saw that the waiter cooks your food for you but we discovered that isn't the case. You still have to cook your own meats but if you ask, they make recommendations on how long to cook certain meats. But if you order a ton, it's easy to not know what meat you're even cooking. I wish they put labels on things with its cook time so it's easy to know. The meal itself was okay but I don't think worth the added cost compared to other kbbq spots. After the meal though, we honestly felt so gross and we felt that way for about 2-3 days after the meal. TMI but I was burping up the smell of kbbq meat for literally 2-3 days and couldn't escape it. We think it's because of how fatty so many of the meats are. We - or at least I - most likely won't ever come back because of this. Located on the first floor of the Topanga mall. & Super happy to come eat here as my girlfriend and I are members of this chain. Anthony was a wonderful server that really took care of us well. Super glad we came here on a Wednesday evening because they were so busy and booked!!! The Yelp waitlist on the tablet had a wait time estimate of 40-56 minutes. We got a text that our table was ready, but had to wait 15 minutes later inside the lobby when we could have walked around the Topanga mall some more. I definitely wish they fixed that so it would have been smoother. The self serve buffet station of beverages, desserts, and fruits/veggies looked super nice with the iconic fog flowing over. Lastly, we really enjoyed our Silver tiered menu and loved the wagyu brisket and beef tongue. The meats were great quality and delicious!!! Zero stars. Our dining experience tonight was extremely disappointing. From the beginning of our meal until the very end, our server repeatedly harassed my husband for his ID to verify his membership, despite both of us being active members. We showed our memberships through the app, which has always been accepted during our many previous visits. What made the situation even more frustrating was that the server singled out my husband and continued to demand his ID multiple times throughout the evening. We pay with our phones and do not typically carry our driver's licenses when dining out. We have never been asked for IDs before, and the constant questioning made us feel uncomfortable and unwelcome. The service was intrusive, unprofessional, and completely overshadowed what should have been an enjoyable dinner. Because of this experience, we will not be renewing our memberships and will be sharing our experience with others. A loyal customer should not be treated this way. read more

I was really excited for Chubby Cattle to be so close to home but sadly my family did not enjoy our experience. I understand why a restaurant would sit children all in the same section to spare other diners the noise, but in my family's case our five year old son does not get loud or get up from the table at all. The whole restaurant is already loud and crowded everywhere. In my opinion there's no need to sit kids all in one section. The 4-5 kids at the next table were absolutely obnoxious and I honestly don't like being lumped in with that just because I have a child too. The meat was delicious, no complaints at all. Sauce bar was good as well but there wasn't anything special. And the ponzu was not ponzu. It was very dark and thick just like a heavy soy sauce. No citrus flavor to it at all. The desserts were soggy and not very flavorful. The rice comes out of a machine which is a little off putting. There were no rice bowls near the machine and when I asked for bowls I was asked to wait two minutes yet nobody came out in two minutes so my family skipped rice altogether. We got the gold tier but throughout the whole speech the waitress had to give about different tiers and how to order, she never mentioned that the premium meats were only one order per person for the whole experience and you cannot choose the same for each person. So if all you want is ONE of those premium meats, that's it for the whole table and there's only four small pieces in an order. Did not enjoy the upselling of the membership. It was mentioned twice and nobody wants to go to dinner to be sold anything. It cheapened the experience. It's supposed to be "Japanese yakiniku" but there wasn't anything very Japanese about Chubby Cattle besides the meat grilling. And it's an electric grill, not charcoal. The hot dishes that come from the kitchen pretty much never made it to our table so we had to ask the server to cancel them as we were coming up on our 1.5 hour limit at the table. This spot would be fun I guess for a friends night out but definitely not great for a nice family dinner. There's no bar or any alcohol and we had to ask for everything including napkins and extra utensils. Cups are paper to-go cups. Just not what I'd like to see for the price we paid. read more
