Love coming here for the atmosphere. My wife and I enjoy the old school vibe that you get when you go to Chubby's. The menu is great ... there is a wide selection of burgers to choose from! I had the teriyaki Swiss burger on my latest trip there and it was great! The only complaint I have is the high chair for my baby was broken... the strap was not working and we couldn't strap him properly. Eh. Went in one night and they didn't have many customers however service was exceptionally slow. My burger was dry and over cooked, the bun was hard. Not great. Went back another time for breakfast instead. The food was definitely better but not what I'd call a regular go to, service wasn't any better. OMG! Great food and even better service! I had the Wild Daisy omelette and my daughter had the corn dog and a kids cherry milkshake. The omelette was perfectly cooked and exactly what I needed after a hard workout. I will most definitely return with the family Well, I hate to downgrade a review, but I have to in this case. I've been here a couple times before this specific time in question, and the first time I went there, the experience was fantastic. The last few times are leaving me very disappointed and disheartened. A couple times ago, I had the French dip sandwich and the meat tasted rancid and it was the sloppiest and strangest looking sandwich I've seen at a restaurant. My dad usually enjoys an open faced hot roast beef sandwich, but it's a shame they use the same beef on that as they did the French dip! I'm surprised neither of us got food poisoning. The last time I went with my dad, the floor looked like it had never been cleaned. There was so much dirt and grime on the floor that I wonder if that bacteria is getting into the food. They need to have a professional floor cleaning company come in and clean that floor because they will be put out of business for unsanitary conditions if the Board of Health comes in to review. Word of advice... Greet your customers when they come in and don't make them wait 20 minutes to order. Stop it with the bad attitude and get that floor cleaned because that's just gross! read more

Today was my second time coming here and although it started off with a 20 min wait which is fine. However when we were seated the server was very polite, but it took only a couple of minutes deciding what we wanted it took the server almost 10 - 15 min just get our orders taken. Waited another 20-30 min for the order to serve out which is the usual at any dine in place. However I had ordered a Texas burger with an extra patty, and the burger patty themselves tasted like nothing at all. No flavor or any juice. On top of that the patty tasted like it wasn't fully defrosted throughly. The only thing that added flavor was the bbq sauce and that was it. We went here on a Saturday around 12pm. After ordering food, the wait time was one hour. The tables next to us also took around the same time. The restaurant was stuffy and hot. Servers were running around like headless chickens because there were no bussers. There seemed to be one host that did the job of bussers so that whenever someone walked in the door, they looked around confused at the empty podium. We ordered a Turkey Melt with regular fries and a Philly Cheese Steak with curly fries. After an hour wait, the wrong type of fries was brought out with the Philly Cheese Steak. The waiter was polite and quickly brought out the right fries with the order. Philly Cheese Steak - below average. The meat was burnt and dried. The bun was nice and soft. Turkey Melt - average. The bottom of the melt was soggy and wet. They must have left it sitting for a bit too long or maybe that's how it is. It wasn't worth the wait. Regular fries - pretty good and fresh. Curly fries - awesome, get the curly fries. Overall, food was average and service was okay. The servers did what they could with the limited resources they have. Chubby's is the place to enjoy great breakfast and lunch food and a little bit of nostalgia. This 50's style diner has been my preferred choice of breakfast place in town. The dining room is very small, which makes it a little hard to get a seat sometimes, but I've been lucky enough to have come in at the right times. There are only really about a dozen tables in the place and a few seats at the counter. The booths aren't the most comfortable (especially when you're recouperating from a hangover), but the food makes up for it. The menu is pretty large and covers all the breakfast staples. The omelettes are very good here, but I always gravitate to the same favorites. Either the Steak, Rattle, and Roll; Johnny B. Goode, or the Mr. Chubby. The rolls they have here for their burgers are the best. I wish all burgers were served with this bread. They have pretty awesome gravy for their biscuits and I have to agree with Mike, the Mountain Dew on tap is a bonus. The cups are also monstrously wide here so I rarely ever need a refill. The parking lot is more than adequate. The restrooms are located on the side of the building so they have to give you a key (gas station style). The staff is very friendly. The menu photos are old and incorrect. I ordered a burger and basket of fries over the phone to go. That should have been $8 plus tax approx according to the menu photos. I get my total when I walk in and it's $18! I said "For a burger and basket of fries?!?" I showed them the yelp menu photos and their comment was "Those must be old" So I ditch the basket of fries and still end up paying $12 for a burger and small fry. That's ridiculous!! Edited to add-When I got home with my $12 burger it was not made to how I ordered. I requested no tomato or pickles and it had enough of of both to make a small salad...I also requested no cheese which they managed to handle. Happened to be in Manteca for work and was looking for a lunch spot. Saw Chubby's and figured I would give it a try. I am so glad I did. It's a 50's themed American diner. The decor is great and the restaurant clean. Used the restroom, also clean. There were two highlights, the 50's music playing and the food!!! It was delicious! I ordered the Ruben and it might have been the best I have ever had. The menu had a ton of options and it made me wish I lived closer so I could try it all. This is a 50s-60s style diner place that kind of reminds me of what 59 Diner used to be like. They have a bar and regular seating inside, as well as breakfast or lunch items to choose from. Not to mention the people are friendly, and the restaurant is one of the most recognized in this little town east of the Bay Area. I had a basic breakfast with some eggs and bacon. The over-medium eggs here were one of the best I've had in a long time, and the bacon was really crisp. I also like the white toast they have here. I wish I would've tried their lunch specials, but I usually come into these kinds of diners to have just breakfast. The lunch food includes burgers, sandwiches, and BLT's. I'm kind of regretting not trying those, but I was impressed with a whole bunch of options on their breakfast menu. Next time I come out to Cali, I'm going to have to try more. I usually love this place but today was very upsetting to me and my family. First of, it took over 10 minutes to get asked for our drink order. I ordered a milkshake cause me blood sugar was low and asked for it right away. Not to be demanding but because of medical reasons. They didn't bring it, I had to ask for it 3 times. Then 20 minutes later, we were asked our order. I again mentioned I needed to eat because my blood sugar was still dropping since I take my meds before I eat not after, and I didn't think it would take over 30 minutes to even order. It never has before. Our orders came out one by one with 5 minutes in between my husband's, fathers and sisters. My daughters came 10 after the three of them got their food. I asked about the milkshake and my food and they finally brought the milkshake and I never got my food. My husband and sister shared their food with me. I'm so disappointed and could have had a medical disaster on my hands had my family not shared with me. I want to talk about my heart break and the Chubby's of old. For years, my late husband and I would share our day off having breakfast in Chubby's. Enjoying the great food, friendly homey atmosphere and terrific wait staff. He'd take me on a date nights there or we'd pop in to have delicious weekend lunches. The heartbreak I want to talk about is THAT Chubby's is as dead as my husband. They have left the delicious food and excellent service in the old building. My sons, daughter-in-law and I tried to have dinner together but if the food wasn't burned or previously frozen, then it was half missing. They brought out the largest bun I have ever seen, for my philly chicken sandwich, but the amount of chicken and cheese filling barely covered half the bread. The staff is improperly trained, slow, and does not posses the knowledge of their product. This isn't the first bad experience there. I keep going back every couple of years hoping for the Chubby's I remember. I am so upset! We have been faithful Chubby's customers since the late 90s when they were first in Manteca in the Safeway shopping mall. We have always been happy with the service and quality of food. Today, this morning, we stopped to TRY to enjoy a nice breakfast but after waiting over 30 minutes, while standing waiting for a table, we noticed others after us getting waited on. Not wanting to sound pushy we quietly asked what was the problem. Well they had lost our reservation. I asked to see the hand written waitlist and they had crossed our name out. No apology, no "can I sit you now?" NOTHING! Service has really gone down. read more

Very nice little place to grab a bite, with that 50's atmosphere Chubby's is known for. The burger was juicy and flavorful, though on the thinner side in regards to the patty. If you like a really beefy burger you'll need to get the double. The burger was a solid 4.5 out of 5 in my opinion. Doesn't have that meaty cheesy savory taste of say Five Guys greasy delicious goodness but then again that might not be what you're looking for. Shredded lettuce and crisp bacon and Chubby's signature sauce adds a nice sharpness to the flavor, not to mention the wide variety of dishes. While here we also enjoyed the sampler with onion rings and a double order of mozzarella sticks, both were very good. Onion rings were crisp and light, so were the mozzarella sticks, though I asked for the sauce to be heated. They serve it cold be default. So if you like your marina warm you'll need to ask them. The fries are classic dinner style, you can tell they were fried fast and hot, and to order. Honestly worth it to come here for fries and a shake. Until we eat here again that's all we have to say about that. read more

I love that they switched locations because the other one was just far too small! It is very much spacious in here and clean. I like it a lot. Same idea- It has that old school diner vibe. It was a smart move for them to expand because they are pretty popular. I love the burgers. Service is pretty chill, nothing outstanding.. Or maybe it was just my server. I forget her name. I've had fried zucchini before. Actually, many times.. I ordered them and honestly there was this strong bitter, nasty taste to them. I drowned them in ranch and it still didn't take the taste out. Ah, Chubby's. It's been a good 3 years since I last been here and it's still the same. New location, but still the great tasting food. The new place has a lot more space and gives it a diner theme. I got the wipeout for breakfast, which consists of 2 pork chops, over and easy eggs, extra crispy hash browns, and cinnamon raisin toast. This place has declined tremendously. Walked in, stood there for a while before we were acknowledged. Then waited to be seated. The person who sat us got our drinks pretty quickly. We don't live in Manteca but my husband and I were in town visiting family and got something to eat because we hadn't eaten breakfast. Our waitress was fine and various people came by to refill my coffee cup which was great. They make their coffee nice and strong just how I like it. Food was decent but I wasn't blown away. It's just your average diner fare. The "open food" charge caught us off guard a little but it wasn't noticed until we had already paid and about to leave. An explanation would have been nice.
