We had such an awesome experience at Sheila B'Z today. This was our first time here. The first thing I noticed was there was ample seating: at the counter, tables or booths. Aaliyah greeted us as soon as we walked in and directed us towards our table. Coincidentally, she was also our server. It was like we knew her for years. Aaliyah was friendly and attentive. We started with the mimosa flights. We couldn't decide on flavors, however, Aaliyah picked a variety of flavors for us, so we were covered. The food came out hot! I had the meat lover skillet with eggs over-easy. The eggs were cooked perfect. The warm yolk added to the flavorful meat and smothered potatoes. René had the chicken and waffles. The chicken was juicy and tender. Next time we'll ask for a side of sauce because it's so good that we needed more than provided, at least for us. One thing we noticed was that every customer was happy. Maybe the other customers were regulars there but this was our first time and we were treated like we were regulars. I think it just says something about the attention to customer service. Toward the end of our visit, "B" one of Sheila's daughters, came out to check on us. Again, it was like talking to a long time friend. Well, it turns out Sheila B'Z is a family business - - everyone working was family, including those working the food truck at an event today. I came here on a Tuesday around 12 and it was not busy. I was seated right away . The menus are QR coded so make sure you go in with some battery . I had the chicken and waffles sandwich and fish tenders and fries along with a strawberry mimosa . The food was very delicious. I'm serious when I say the fish was the best I have tried in long time . The bar is so long . A great size bar . It's also rentable for parties for a great price . Pictured is the Philly Cheesesteak that my friend said that it was delicious. I had the Salmon Omelette, potatoes and Wheat toast (and sweet tea ). My Sis had a two way with chicken and fish and we both had a huckleberry mimosa which were delicious! Those were recommended by our server and it was a good suggestion. I had the fried Basa the coating was crispy like chicken and the meat of the fish was perfectly tender. My sweetie had the maple sausage they were aromatic and well done but tender........ I'd planned to take the fam for breakfast this morning but it was raining, so I used DD instead. Ordered the cinnamon waffle with smothered potatoes and sausage, pancakes, chicken and waffle sliders, and two orders of fish and grits. Everything was AMAZING. I've never ordered grits from somewhere and didn't have to add something to make them taste right. They were creamy and well seasoned. I haven't had smothered potatoes in ages and these did not disappoint. Again, cooked perfectly and seasoned to perfection. The kids loved their food too. Hours are confusing -- yelp says M-F 9-5, Apple Maps says closed Mondays but open 9-10 on Sun/Tues and 9-7 W-F, their physical menu says open 9-7. Hoping they can have consistent times online for customers. My first time there will likely be my last -- customer service only seemed to matter towards customers they already knew. I don't expect much from customer service but it was noticeably dry and lackluster towards my table and other groups compared to the ones they knew. For example, we got seated and didn't get any drinks until we asked the waitress when she came to take our food order (which was a bit of some time). A party that came after us got waters immediately plus enthusiastic conversation. I had hoped the food would make up for the weak customer service considering there's a running joke that the places with terrible service have great food, ya know? But nope. Food was decent, nothing to really rave about. The vibe of the place and the taste of the food gave the house that everyone hangs out at and eats because they cook well but I definitely expected more since this isn't a house...it's a restaurant and we spent $60. Most of the food tasted frozen which is fine if the fresh ingredients added to it, but it didn't. I was excited to support a local business + its women's history month and I heard it was women owned but I'm disappointed about our experience. The energy was so bland that I just know whoever reads this from their team won't honestly care about the review but I'm just writing in hopes that people take this all into consideration before making a far drive for this business (as we did, and it felt like a major waste of our gas). I got the fish combo with two sides off of their soul food menu and I will say it is the best soul food I have had in a restaurant. Harold and Bells to me can't beat this LOL. The service was great too! I love to see black people owning businesses and doing so with excellence and they did a phenomenal job. Loved getting to try a Black owned business. The owner was our server and sat us as soon as we walked in. Got us drinks, took our order quickly. The 3 way plate is huge and the waffle for the chicken and waffles was good too. My only thing was the food was a bit salty. If I had to guess, the cook was using a seasoning with salt in it and then adding salt as well. I couldn't finish my side of potatoes because ketchup wasn't helping. Best skillet I've ever had, hands down! Perfectly cooked and seasoned - PERFECT! I am a breakfast lover, and my son and I came here for breakfast before a jiu jitsu tournament at the Stockton Arena. The ladies were very welcoming, and we were seated right away. I had a fun time explaining Family Feud (on TV) rules to my 10 year old son. We had to guess the questions being asked by using the answers as clues. It was fun. Music was on and provided a nice ambiance. My son ordered biscuits and gravy, and a side of bacon - bacon was perfect and gravy was full of flavor. He ate the whole thing. I looked over the menu and decided that I wanted the shrimp po' boy with French fries. They have four large TV's for your viewing pleasure. They also have a large bar area which makes it a great place to enjoy any sports you would like to watch. My food came out hot & looked delicious. I love a hot meal!!! The shrimp & fries were cooked to perfection!!! The menu is easy to read and they also serve the most important meal of the day--breakfast!!! This place has the best grits I have ever tasted in my life, way better than the grits I make, im jealous as hell. I ordered the shrimp and grits with a side of fish and it was the best meal I've had in a while, exactly what I wanted and exceeded all expectations. Okay, so I had mixed feelings before I came here. Mostly because of other people experience. My experience here was delightful! The food was awesome! I had fried chicken wings, collard greens, yams, rice and gravy which was on the house! I also had macaroni and cheese and cornbread. My fiance had chicken and waffles. Of course I had to get a bite of his waffles, and so so delicious with crusty edges. The couple that we went with had oxtails which came with rice and gravy and they also had the mac and cheese. The staff was extremely nice and talkative, however they were very casually dressed. One waitress had a hair scarf on, which I assume she slept in it and the attire gave me a pajama vibe. Besides the wait time to prepare your meal, which was minimum 30 minutes. I didn't mind because I knew that they make their food per order. We didn't really trip off of the wait time because we had great conversation at the table. The only thing that upset me was that they ran out of smothered turkey wings. I'm still feeling some type of way about that. Lol!!!! I definitely recommend this restaurant! It is a mom and pops, and really small inside maybe can seat about 30 guests.
