I've been to a good number of comfort food establishments in my day. I know what's good. You don't. So allow me to serenade your eye balls with some home fried knowledge about the food game. Attention: 3 1/2 stars and below folks: I will not entertain reviews below 4 stars on this piece. So take your delectable-home-made-jam-non-appreciating-selves to St. Elsewhere, because St. George has no time for your food ignorance. Ya dig? This isn't your 'Chuck-Wagon" or "Buckaroo Buffet".... (albeit, upon first glance, you may think twice about stopping in after a weekend at Brian Head).. but I insist you do. Why? Imagine yourself for a moment, in a quite suburban neighborhood, somewhere in the middle of Utah. You decide to have a potluck. You invite Molly McButter and her 30 plus stay-at-home mom's in your neighborhood and ask them to each bring their BEST dish. One by one, the show up with steaming hot tray's fresh out of the oven. You slap a Chuck-a-Rama sign outside and charge 13 bucks at the door. Chuck-a-Rama, ya-mama. Take note: 1. Fried Chicken. I can't even think of ONE single chain establishment to make fried chicken better than this place. And that's just a little taste of whats on offer here, people. 2. Cinnamon pull-apart. So much love. (not even a dessert, son. You eat it with dinner. Dig?) 3. Home made jam. Not even the breakfast buffet at the Bellagio has the foresight to serve home made jam with your $50 breakfast. Respect. 4. Home made butter milk bizkits. Eat it with home made jam. Don't be weak. 5. Dessert selection. Remember the cake walk at your elementary school? Imagine that on weed. 6. Don't sleep on Chuck-A-Rama. My husband loves this place so this is what he chose for dinner after a long day of moving since he was starving. They had seafood plus some holiday items (peppermint cake). It was crowded, probably because of Christmas guests in town. Our server was good. I like their salad bar and desserts. Not one for lots of meat. read more

I came here attracted by the ribs they said they had on Wednesday. Alas, they weren't very good. But right next to them was something I could eat all day. I don't know if it was mislabled or what but it was a very tasty stew of meat, carrots and potatos. I had a lot! Also they had salad green mix, and sunflower seed sprouts. I don't even eat a salad usually, but this was very good, with the shredded radish mixed in..... The soft-serve ice cream was good. They had a lot of pastries I couldn't eat, but they were pleasant to the eye, even though I don't know how they tasted. There was a huge variety of drinks - the usual ones, plus horchata, hybiscus, and a Mexican orange drink that tasted like a creamsicle. And a couple slushy items. There was sausages, sauerkraut, "fresh" dill pickles. Various other meats... They said there was Mexican food on Thursday, but we went on Wednesday. My dining companion liked the macaroni and cheese and the rice pudding, among other things. Yes, this is a better-than-average buffet, although some of the casinos across the border in Nevada have better ones for the price. But for your average American town, it's good as buffets go and I could eat here regularly if I lived in the area. read more

We always stop in whenever we are in town or driving through. Reasonably priced. Love their salad selections, so much choice and so delicious. It was chuck wagon night, baked herby chicken was juicy and delicious. Don't like turkey pot roast, it's just not as flavorful as beef. Honey glazed ham was nice. Disappointed with fried chicken, a new batch came out, greasy as heck and not even slightly crispy. Server was not overly attentive, everything was piling up before she came by. I used to go to Chuck-a-Rama with my grandparents when I was younger, but as I got older buffets sort of fell out of fashion with me. I guess that is because I always associated them with low quality, high quantity. I pride myself as being somewhat of a foodie and I would say that I have almost nothing in common with the average Chuck-a-Rama patron. But lately I seem to have rediscovered how amazingly good Chuck-a-rama is, despite being a "buffet restaurant". Seriously, this place has delicious, hot, quality food. Granted, the name is odd and its somewhat a tribute to Utah's quirky culture. Name aside, there is probably no better value than Chuck-a-rama when it comes to price paid and quality (and quantity, if you wish) of food received. My wife and I picked up several slices of fresh carved, oven-roasted turkey that was moist, tender, and delicious. The roast beef was equally tender and delicious. The roasted carrots, onions, and potatoes were amazing. Mashed potatoes, chicken wings, cornbread, delicious rolls. It's WAY to easy to go overboard here. Eating there tonight felt like what Thanksgiving dinner should have been for me last Thanksgiving. I also want to point out how good their salad bar is. Lots of fresh greens and sides to customize your own. Or, pick from many healthy ready-made salads (apple slaw, Asian chicken salad, broccoli salad, Greek salad, cucumber salad, etc.). I had three plates of various salads before I even dug into the heartier dishes. It is easy to get lots of quality fruits, veggies, and to eat really healthy here. Or, you can eat really unhealthy and just indulge yourself. It's your choice. Desserts are also very, very good with lots of choices. Every time I leave Chuck-a Rama I usually have two thoughts: 1) Why did I eat so much? 2) Why don't we come here more often? Like other buffet chains, this place has lots of choices. But unlike other buffet chains, the quality of each dish feels is good and tastes similar to what you'd find at an above average steakhouse. read more

The dinner rolls were freshly baked. The fried chicken tasted more like oven baked chicken. Roast beef was good. The establishment was well maintained but I just didn't experience anything there that stood out. Definitely not a bad establishment and pricing was perfect. read more

We were very impressed with the service at Chuck-Arama. The staff was great about getting our drinks and refills. Two large buses full of people came in and the servers were able to keep up with their drinks and the food was never low. The salad bar was tremendous! The food was delicious and plentiful. I went in to this restaurant fully expecting to be underwhelmed. When we drive through St George, we usually go to the Golden Corral. We wanted something a little different. This buffet is about 60% of the size of Golden Corral. However, everything seemed to be fresh & cooked on spot. Many places will just go to Sysco Foods & heat up some frozen slop. We went on a Saturday, so it was Italian Day. Was disappointed there was not at least one beef dish out (except for the Beef Stew). However, this is the first time at any buffet I could tolerate the lasagna! The stuffed shells were right on point. The desserts were freshly made. The rocky road cake was off the hook! Brownies were solid. Would have liked to see possibly some eggplant in the Italian Day. There was a vegetable shortage on the hot line - I would have liked to see another veggie to have as a side. I almost forgot - they had some rotisserie chicken out - that might be the absolute juiciest chicken I ever had! The hot legs were good... but the rotisserie chicken alone was worth the price of admission. Wait staff was very pleasant. Clean restrooms. I will not fault them for a hooligan carving a Nazi sign onto the toilet paper roll.. but that would upset me if it stays there. Deducted a star due to lack of vegetables on the buffet, and at least one beef dish. With a name like Chuck A Rama, they need at least ONE beef dish included. read more

I will admit this was not on my To-Do List after the Zion Half Marathon, but it won me over and in spite of it's perfectly appropriate name, it really is a pretty good buffet for the price. Don't come in here expecting a Vegas/hotel experience. The ambiance is more like a family coffee house than anything else. It's head-and-shoulders above the Hometown Buffets we find clogging the arteries of Californians. A post-run visit to this institution of fine dining in St. George, Utah. To be honest, I wasn't expecting much, but the offerings on that Sunday morning were very tasty. The greens for the salads were fresh and crisp. The meats were very Middle America, which is to be expected, but not overly seasoned. Ok, I admit it; we ate here on a dare. Driving thru St. George we saw the sign, it was lunchtime and someone said, "I dare ya." However, this buffet with the unfortunate name was actually pretty good. I've been wanting to try a Chuck-A-Rama since I first saw one in Salt Lake City three years ago and it did not disappoint! Overall, I would say the food was pretty delicious for this sort of buffet. The fresh rolls were probably the best part, although the salad bar and kettle-cooked turkey were pretty tasty as well. My only advice would be to avoid the section with the Mexican foods, as they aren't so great here, aside from the enchiladas. For $9 a person at lunch, I thought this was a bargain. My daughter lives near St. George and whenever I get off the I-15 and see "Chuck-a--Rama," I think what a goofy name that is for a restaurant. Today her kids told me how much they love Chuck-o-Rama, and how much they like eating there. They hadn't eaten there in about 3 years, though, because of the economy. My husband and I decided to treat them to dinner there, since we are going back to California tomorrow, and to make up for the disastrous dinner we had at the China Buffet the night before. It was pretty good for a buffet! I don't typically like low-budget American-style buffets . They are usually greasy and tasteless. The food served at this buffet tasted pretty decent. It wasn't greasy, and there was plenty of it. Tonight was fish night, so there was tasty clam chowder, deep-fried shrimp, and a couple of nice fish dishes. There was also prime rib with au jus and onions and mushrooms, a Mexican buffet table, a nice salad bar, and drinks were included in the meal. Nice dessert table, too, and of course a serve-yourself frozen ice cream machine. Everyone was happy and full by the time we left, and for 7 people it was only about 80 bucks. This is just a nice family restaurant. If you are looking for the best buffet your money can buy, don't come here. But if you are on a budget but don't want to eat slop, give it a try. Came to chuck a Rama to have dinner with my wife. The problems was we bike everywhere in town and they don't have any spot to lock bikes outside their restaurant. So of course we went inside to ask if we could leave our bikes in the lobby so they didn't get stolen...well the manager there thought that was a terrible idea and told us if we wanted to eat there we could leave our bikes outside. Needless to say we did not stay. I don't understand how an establishment wouldn't accommodate people who bike with a bike rack or at the very least allow them to keep them secure in the building when they don't have one. That said, we were a little skeptical, the building exterior could make you think hmmm, but don't be fooled. After a few unhealthy meals in Saint George, my friends and I ventured over to the Chuck-A-Rama. It's not a very appetizing name, and the building looks like one of those old-school buffets my family would avoid when I was a kid. I skeptical at best... I was wrong. Chuck-A-Rama was a treat. $13 and change gets you in the door and access to a smorgasbord of food. There were fixing for great salads, wonderful meats, breads, and tasty sides. We were in heaven. Everyone had a little bit of everything. The summer sausage and onions was like crack. The mac and cheese was fantastic. The pull-a-part, "monkey bread," was to die for. We had a blast, and... holy crap... they even have an Icee machine! You can't beat this place for value. We were in Saint George for seven days, and ended up here a second time because, well... First and last visit. If you go for seafood night don't go for the seafood. Baked polluck two types of deep fried shrimp and a tuna bake made up part of the lame variety. I like this place. It is clean and friendly, though service is okay since it is a buffet. I went to the buffet because my family and I were on a tour trip. There was very few selections nearby. I was glad this was close to the motel we were at. The dinner price is around $14. I thought that they had a awesome salad bar. The greens were beautiful when I was there. Chuck-A-Rama, a family tradition. As an extreme pursuer of all things buffet, I must say that this one may be king of the hill. With a fiery long sword called "Cinnamon Honey Butter", this establishment cuts down all of its competitors. None can withstand the might of the buffet's delicious food. Kids aged from 8-800 all line up for a slice of cake: carrot, rocky road, German chocolate, Love. Horchata, an orange Julius-esque drink, and whatever "rica-Jamaica" is, stand before you; soldiers ready to serve your taste palate on the proverbial b-ball court. The orange chicken, banana bread, and scones are to die for. Were I a samurai, I would commit seppuku were I to fail my shoguns. Only then could I regain my honor. No buffet is complete until you are so full that you wish only for the sweet release of death. Grant me this, Chuck-A-Rama. I beg. Lay me low on rocky road cake and ice cream. On scones and spicy chicken. Impale me on a skewer of carrot cake. The chicken nuggets are pretty okay. read more

Don't let the daily "special" menu fool you, there is a selection of other items as well if you don't like the highlighted cuisine. The price is reasonable for the quality. As an expert on buffets I am exceedingly upset about a huge predicament at this "chuck-a-Rama" people make a big deal out of. The problem? Pizza. A fairly decent-not even decent- buffet would have at least 10 different pizza selections and they would all look and taste delicious. This so-called-buffet had one option of pizza and it looked horrific. Pizza should be cheesy and have steam slowly rising from it and the topping should look fresh and inviting. this one looked like trash. I'm not oscar the grouch so I don't typically spend time around garbage cans or anything that goes in one. until tonight at chuck-a-Rama. Thank you. I'm actually surprised by all the 5 star ratings, but to each his own! The entre selections here are few, which is something I'm not accustomed to in regard to a "buffet." Fried chicken that was a bit soggy, Mexican-Italian style lasagna, ricotta stuffed pasta shells and a small carving station. The salad selections were great and the absolute best part of this buffet is the desserts! Delicious cakes! We sampled them all and were not disappointed. Mad house. Unorganized. Just a few words that come to mind when considering the overall feel of this place. Granted, we were there on a Saturday evening, so I expected long lines and they certainly snaked from the front door inward, but the place was utter chaos. There were many open, clean tables, but there was only one girl who walked back and forth, back and forth from one end of the restaurant to the other, scoping available tables and then seating those waiting at the podium. If you're from Vegas then you may lack the patience for this place lol They do not have people standing at their sections and radioing the table availability back to the hostess. 13 bucks for adults and the price for young children starts at age 4 and increases a bit for every year. The desserts are so yummy that they account for 2 stars, but that's as good as it gets. I will not be eating here again. read more
