The problem with Chucks fish. I sat at the sushi bar tonight. I noticed one of the servers prepping plates for food. She had no gloves on. She would put a wad of pickled ginger, which i love, and place it on the plate with her bare hands. Rarely she would put on gloves. Not all the chef's wore gloves either. Although it may take you a while to find parking (like just about every restaurant in the area), the food was great. Service was a little bit... shall we say, lackadaisical, but it was near the end of the night, so I guess I can understand. Very loud in the dining room, so don't go if you're planning on having any kind of intimate conversation or even just a conversation with anyone more than 1 seat away from you. The restaurant is nice with a simple but classy ambiance. The service was great and our waitress was very helpful with the cocktail recommendations. The greyhound is a great option for those that don't love a strong alcohol flavor but still want to enjoy a drink for the night. The drink paired well with the calamari and we also asked for the sauce on the side. It was a tangy sauce with a little bit of spice, but not really szechuan like the name entails. We were happy with the portion and would come back for this dish. The Parmesan crusted mahi came out room temperature and lacked a lot of flavor. The portion of risotto was disappointing as well as the flavor. All I could taste was the cream and the broccoli on the side also wasn't seasoned. The sesame tuna also wasn't our favorite, there wasn't much sesame flavor and it seemed like you could only taste the eel sauce. It also says it's served over sticky rice, but upon inspection it was just white rice. I'm not opposed to going back but I would definitely pick different entrees. read more

The food was fine--better than some, not as good as others--but the service moved with the urgency of a glacier. We waited 40 minutes just to get a drink, and by the time the food arrived, an hour later, I'd forgotten what I ordered. The new manager there taylor is five stars, he improved the menue always looking for ways to Make the restaurant more welcoming, his understanding of customer service is beyond five stars , he has great attitude so as all of his staff . This place was amazing. It felt like you were on the pier of an upscale fishing town, not Athens. Both the indoor and outdoor areas where very cute. Even the bar inside was cute. We got the cheapest cold sake which was really good. We then got the miso soup which was amazing. Best miso soup any of us have ever had. My husband and I enjoyed a date night at Chuck's, and it did not disappoint! We had the Crunchy Crawfish roll for an appetizer. Then I had the seared tuna with stir fry veggies and sticky rice. It was delicious. It is spicy though! My husband had the stuffed shrimp. It was delicious too! The atmosphere was nice - we sat on the heated, enclosed patio. Our server was very attentive. Love this place! It's an Athens staple for sure! Everything I've tried there has been delish, appetizers & rolls & drinks. It is pricey but you get what you pay for, the quality is great! The only downside to Chucks is how busy it gets, but they offer reservations, bar seating, and outdoor seating, so just plan ahead. Definitely worth the visit! Must try the uptown chicken, the rainbow roll, the black dragon... really any of the rolls tbh... the greyhound and the guava sour! read more

My friends took me here to celebrate my 21st and the food did not disappoint. We ordered drinks and apps to begin our meal. I got a semester abroad and my friends got a greyhound. Both drinks had an ideal ratio of alcohol to mixer. For the main course, we ordered sushi- yellow submarine and veggie. I liked the mango addition to the roll and it didn't overpower the salmon. Whew! WEAR EARPLUGS. Went for the first time last night, a Saturday. Arrived at 6:45. One hour wait. At at bar for one hour and had an $18 cocktail, wow. After about one hour and 20 minutes I went back for the third time to check on our seating. Seems they "tied to text you but it did not go through". Really, then take initiative to go to the bar and call out the name! Duh... Got seated outside, it is an old bus stop building. Car exhaust from a oil burning car was the smell that greeted us. Everyone was almost yelling to be heard it was so loud. This place is for college kids with daddy's credit card and young professionals with excessive income. Not somewhere you go to relax and have a nice dinner with conversation. Took another 25 minutes after we ordered to get some food. Food was good but expensive. Grew up on the coast and they cooked it right. Wife's entree was $42. I got by with $29. There are only two unisex bathrooms for the entire building inside and out so get ready to wait. Wife excused herself and was gone for quite a while as she waited in the mixed line for the next available. Perhaps it is "better" on a weeknight but we had enough in one visit. Good luck. read more

This is now my new favorite restaurant in Athens! We had a group of 6 and had such a great experience. It seemed a bit small from the outside, but it had surprisingly ample seating which was great. The decor is modern and beautiful. The Sushi bar feature was really cool. We started off with a round of cocktails from the bar's specialty menu and everyone loved what they got (and a few ordered 2nd rounds). For appetizers we ordered the Seafood Salad and the Backdown Roll from their sushi menu and the Kimchi Brussels from the kitchen menu. All were excellent and the sushi roll was a good size for sharing. The brussel sprouts were to die for. They were crispy and come with a delicious aioli sauce. We had someone in our group who is usually not a fan and she absolutely loved them. Everyone enjoyed their entrees. I had the Gulf Fish Parmadine which was perfectly cooked. It came with a gouda grit cake which was so damn good that I enjoyed it almost as much as the fish. Hubby had the seared scallops which were cooked to perfection. Others in the group had their stuffed shrimp and fish of the day. Everyone said their food was fresh, delicious and perfectly cooked. Our server was great. Even though they were busy, she took the time to explain that the fish was shipped in regularly from their Destin FL sister restaurant. She was very knowledgeable about the menu when anyone in our group had questions and never made us feel rushed. We will definitely coming back. read more

Was very disappointed by tonight's service . We've been coming to chucks for years now and tonight was horrible. We waited an hour for our food and our waiter didn't come check on us but one time. Overall good. Some of the dishes weren't cooked to a high standard -- but good for an Athens restaurant. For example, I had both the seared tuna and mahi special. Both fish were over cooked and it seemed excess sauce was added because the fish was not super fresh. If I were to go back, I would order more sushi and sashimi. That was definitely better quality. They seated us outside with no heaters when it was 60. The bathroom was over flowing and had no toilet paper and was clogged. They did not have good service.
