I was really excited to try this place, but it simply did not hit. We had the duck croquetas, queso frito, frita meatball, and the cast iron pancake. Of these, the duck croquetas were easily the best, while the pancake was a major disappointment after all the hype on IG. The little one had the kid's grilled cheese, which was one of the better things we had, and I had a cortadito, which was below average and served in a shot glass. The staff were all super sweet and very attentive. I don't want to sound dramatic but I think this place had my new favorite vanilla iced latte (w oat milk). I came here on my neighbors recommendation. I am a longtime resident of the area. Came on a Saturday around 2 PM. The place was crowded and we sat at the bar. The food took one hour exactly to get to us and we were right in front of the kitchen , I gived specific instructions about the meal and it came incorrect, it was also very salty, ordered a cappuccino, and it was very lame and very bad you think being a Cuban place known for their amazing coffee this thing would've been good, but it was not, no foam no flavor , just some dirty water I will give it another try , I always do with every establishment that I visit, I know this place is busy, but one hour to get a simple egg sandwich is not acceptable, the hostess was also not very helpful. I see a lot of empty tables and yet she suggested we seat at the bar. I do, however I'm kind of impressed. They serve hard liquor here , maybe to get wasted and forget the bad food and poor service? This place is just lucky to be in the very busy spot in Coconut Grove in my opinion, a lot of tourist to go in there to try, but I bet you not too many repeated business from us, locals who are majority of the people who frequent the Grove business area Let's see how long management takes to get back to me. I'd heard a lot about this place and wanted to check it out. We ordered two coffees and some food. After waiting a while for our coffees to come, we asked our waitress if she could check up on them and we were told they were really backed up and that they would come out shortly. Long story short, our food arrived, we ate, and digested our food and our coffees never arrived after a full hour. While I understand things like this happen, when you're paying over $60 for two people to have breakfast, and are then being asked to tip 20-25%, it becomes harder to excuse. read more

It felt like one of those great NY sandwiches you order from a corner deli. But even with that being the case, it was quite steeply priced. Almost $20 for a breakfast sandwich is rather steep when you're used to getting one for half that price in NYC. The breakfast potatoes weren't as crispy as I would have hoped. My husband ordered eggs and bacon that was cut SUPER thick, I had the avocado toast and he ordered the massive pancake. It was more like a cake - very thick and dry. Service was nonexistent. Hostess was clueless and after a long wait we just grabbed two seats at the back bar but no one thought it was their job to clean the bar or take orders. So we had another long wait. This is two different experiences in one review. First visit (for lunch, I've been here for breakfast) sat inside and I had the Frita , I loved it ... it tasted like the ones my dad use to make growing up. The place has an upscale diner quality to it, I like the meshing of the Cuban food mixed with Americana. In essence it's a Cuban American diner. Love the concept and execution of it all. My second visit was for dinner. I finally got to try the famous Chug burger. The first 3 or 4 bites the burger tasted funny. I examined the burger and figured out I really did not like the house made pickles, which is a shame because I love dill pickles on my burger. Overall the burger was good and I would order again (hold the pickles tho) We sat outside and it was very romantic at dusk. Located in a nice walkable village type of atmosphere, Chug's offers a solid diner type of experience. We were seated quickly when we came in and perused the menu. We started off with some biscuits and they were pretty good, not a truly classic Southern biscuit but I like this take on them served with butter and apple butter to enjoy. I was in the mood for a truly diner-esque type of breakfast so I went with La Completa (listed as three farm eggs any way, waxman potatoes, and tostada) and added on smoked salmon as well. I enjoyed this selection, especially the smoked salmon and the potatoes (done crispy/crunchy, my fave for breakfast potatoes). I ordered my eggs scrambled and they were good. I was not a fan of the tostada I have to say but I had my bread already enjoying a biscuit before the meal. Service was a bit tentative as I got the impression our server may be new, but got the job done. We did have to wait a bit for the bill when ready. The French toast was soo good, I yelled back at the chef and let him know, "He did the DAMN thing!" Definitely would revisit if I'm back in Miami. This little diner in the Grove is a hidden gem. Small indoor seating. Extra outdoor seating outside which is more of a vibe. Service was sweet and delicate (almost unlike most of Miami). The food options are so wide & sound so good it makes it hard to choose. From breakfast all day, to small bites to a full typical Cuban meal - you can't go wrong coming here. They'll have something for everyone. The food we ordered all came out perfectly as ordered, absolutely delicious & a different take (a unique twist to common food in Miami). We arrived and was told the wait would be about 35 to 40 minutes. They took down our contact information in order to text us when our table was ready. The area is full of little shops so we just utilized our wait time and walk around. Once our table was ready we were kindly greeted and seated at our table. The wait staff are friendly and attentive. Absolutely nothing missed. I think fusion is hardly done well but Chugs is an exception. I was quite honestly blown away from start to finish. The lemonade cold brew.... Don't ask questions just do it. that would never be up my alley but surprisingly it was so fantastic writing about it now I'm craving another one. The latte was also good but I think the novelty of the cold brew stole the show. The skillet pancake tasted like Cracker Barrel pancakes with syrup except the middle was fluffy and melt in your mouth with a crispy butter outside. The BEC was incredible and so was the pan con bistec I think everything was perfectly executed. We had originally ordered the buffalo croquettas which were good but we were not fans of blue cheese and I think you need to like blue cheese to like them. However, the waitress saw i wasn't super thrilled with the BCD croquettas and asked us if we wanted the duck croquettas instead. We agreed and were so happy we did. The duck croquettas were amazing and honestly reminded me of a duck bao bun flavor with the all the garnishes 10/10. The ambiance was so calming and warm It felt like a warm hug even though the weather wasn't great. We were amazed with the service we didn't catch her name and I really wish we had because she was so intuitive and amazing some of the best service I've ever encountered. Indoors is more diner like and cooler. Outdoors is very tropical with lush exotic plants that you sit amongst. We sat outdoors to enjoy the Miami life style with people walking by in their most trendy clothes. Anything goes. Chugs has great brunch choices! I ordered the La Completa with eggs, thick bacon, avocado and fried potatoes with parmesan. and an iced Cafe con leche! So delicious!! Comfort food! My daughter ordered the Lechon with hash and also a Cafe con leche. She loved it. We had plenty of food left over to take home. Chugs does not skimp on portions! After we waited a while, we indulged in their signature Cast Iron pancake! To die for!! I have never seen such a tall cakey pancake with the most yummy Maple Syrup in my life. So good! We took most of it home also. The leftover tasted very good hours later also. We would like to thank Aileen, our server, who took very good care of us as well as the other servers who made sure we had cold water at all times during this heat wave. Parking is not easy to find. It's a busy area and an Uber might be better. There may be a valet close by though. My daughter dropped me off because I can't walk that far. I had been wanting to try this restaurant for a while now, and was finally able to get my hands on some items while at Eatscon Miami. At the event, we decided to get the Cuban Pierogi and the Biscuits & Gravy Croqueta Sandwich. Both were delicious but I honestly can not stop raving about the sandwich to this day. The weekend after, I ended up at the Coconut Grove Arts festival to which I quickly suggested Chug's Diner for dinner. All 4 of us got sandwiches which were also delicious & we also asked if they would make Cuban coffee espresso martinis for us, which they did and were great! The owner made his way to the table and after hearing my enjoyment of the croqueta sandwich and had shared a few sausage croquetas so everyone else at the table could taste them. I was very happy. We visited CHUGS in Coconut Grove for the second time with my family, and unfortunately, it was just as disappointing. The quality of the food was poor--my breakfast sandwich, which I asked to be made with bacon instead of ham, came without the ham as I requested. Instead, I was charged extra for a side of bacon which came at the end of our meal, and the Cuban bread was sooooo stale. The fried potato shavings were overly greasy, making them unpleasant to eat. The side of fries the table ordered came at the end and were so greasy, the low-quality frozen type. The ownership might not even eat here. The Cuban coffee was cold and overloaded with milk, barely tasting like coffee. Our waitress was curt and non-responsive, which only added to the frustration. At $30 per person with tip, it felt like overpriced, low-quality food. The only redeeming quality was the outdoor seating, but even that didn't make up for the poor food and service. I'd recommend finding another spot in Coconut Grove to enjoy a meal outdoors. read more
