Came here for breakfast because of all the reviews I have been seeing on social media. When we arrived, the place seemed gloomy almost. It was very dim inside and there weren't many people. We waited a bit before we were seated and took some time to look at the menu. After looking through we decided to get the Cast Iron Pancake and La Completa. The Cast Iron Pancake was crispy on the outside and very fluffy on the inside. It fell apart once the fork pierced through it. Although it was good, I was not a fan of how it was served in a pool of syrup. It made the crispy exterior mushy very quickly and I also did not like the amount of syrup on it, I would have preferred for it to be on the side and I added it in myself. La Completa was tasty. I got my eggs sunny side up and they were perfectly runny, just running the fork over it made the golden silky yolk burst through like a volcano. The potatoes were slightly crispy on the outside and fork tender on the inside. Although it was seasoned nicely because of the size of the potato, it needed more seasoning to penetrate the interior. We also got some glasses of fresh squeezed orange juice which was very good, however it was $6 for about 6-8 fl oz of juice which was not worth the price. Recently revisited Chug's Diner and was reminded of why this spot has surpassed 5 stars in my eyes. Chug's Diner has become a local gem and Coconut Grove staple within the past few years and it's for no short reason. Their Cuban American take on classic diner food has wowed me time and time again. I recently came by to co-work, chismiar, and enjoy a yummy bite and loved every minute of my experience. Service was so welcoming and warm. Our server did not rush us at all and gave us great recommendations. I started my day with a classic cup of joe while my friend got an iced latte, both great and got us ready to get some work done. After a few power hours of getting work done we decided to order lunch. I ordered the sopa del dia, which was a carrot and butternut squash soup topped with a carrot bacon and a side of their biscuits which came with apple jam + mojo butter and my friend got the abuelitas platter which came with black beans, pollo a la plancha and white rice --- a classic. Now the star of the show for me were the biscuits, I inhaled them in 2 seconds and loved everything about them! They tasted just like fall, and were perfectly glazed with this lightly salted butter. They were golden from the outside but soft and cloudy in the inside... I mean my mouth is watering just writing about them! The soup was also a 10/10, so rich and creamy and the flavors were all there. To add to my wondeful experience, the music -- the jams were just jamming you know. One jazzy hit after another. From Frank Sinatra to Ella Fitzgerald, all the 'oldies but goodies' hits were coming out to play and I was the number 1 fan of the show! I LOVED the aesthetic in Chug's especially the green terrazzo bar. We split a bunch of apps like the guava and cheese pastelito, three croquettas: ham, BEC and spinach and artichoke and a few more. The only time I get to eat Cuban is when I'm in Miami and now I have a new spot to add to my list. Even if you don't have the time to sit, order to go! It's so worth it. This place is not your run of the mill cuban cafe. But you can definitely expect some cuban breakfast staples. I've come here twice, once with my sister and once with my boyfriend and they were both impressed with how good the food was! PLACE: Located in the heart of the grove, this is a small Cuban cafe with some indoor seating and some outdoor seating plus a community table. its a block away from Lulu's and Green Street Cafe, so expect most of the parking to be taken. However, there are some public lost nearby. The wait is never long which is good considering how popular this place has become. FOOD: As I said this is a modern take on a Cuban cafe, so they serve your regular cuban breakfast of eggs, potatoes and tostada. They also serve their takes on a croqueta preparada and a Cuban sandwich big enough for two! I got their Cuban breakfast and added cheese to my eggs which resulted in the best cheese pull ever! My boyfriend ordered the croqueta preparada which came with a croqueta right on top! The best thing about this place is that they make different styles of croquetas and pastelitos, but come early cause they run out quick! We tried their short rib and ham croquetas and they were both so good and creamy! SERVICE: The service is average in my opinion. We grabbed a table as soon as a couple has left because they have scarce outdoor seating, so we didn't give them a chance to clean the table before we sat down. However, once we did sit down, it took them about 10-15 minutes for them to clean our table and bring us water. The good thing is though that the food comes out very quick so you're not waiting long. We came here because of the hype and it was real. We loved the cast iron pancakes the most. It soaks in an amazing syrup with the biggest scoop of butter on top. The French toast was tasty and they use a brioche bread, so it is flaky. Not my favorite but still a great option! Another top contender was the American Cuban sandwich - all the fillings were cooked, which was great for my pregnant self. I was in love with the sandwich but the fries were to die for! The seasoning and the cook on them were perfect. Loved the ambiance and would highly recommend for anyone to come to eat here!! The server was super friendly and food came out within 10-15 minutes despite it being busy. We only waited for 30 minutes for a table of 3 but there's so much to walk around and do that it didn't feel like a wait at all. We ordered the breakfast platter, two burgers, and the pan con bistec along with an iced café con leche and honestly, the highlight was the coffee, which didn't quite justify the $100+ bill when there are so many options in that area. Service was okay, and the ambience was decent. The burgers were just average, the pan con bistec was dry and underwhelming, and the breakfast plate was your typical Cuban breakfast with dry, unbuttered toast. Unfortunately, we didn't get to try the pancake skillet since they had run out of ingredients. I came to visit family and stayed in the beautiful area of coconut grove. This was walking distance and it became my daily spot. I loved the location that the diner is at, very walkable and the diner itself is super cute, they have indoor and outdoor seating, and their staff is super nice! While spending a lazy cloudy Sunday afternoon in the Grove, I had a chance to check out Chug's Diner proper. (Sidebar: I had previously enjoyed their namesake burger at Taurus a while back). Although it's named a diner, it's a gentrified take on Cuban comfort food with Grove prices. That said, it was pretty well flavored with good service! My first choice for a main, the Milanesa (Cuban chicken parm) wasn't available so I ordered their "Abuela's Plate". Think of the basic rice, black beans and a banana with whatever meat you'd get at your Cuban grandma's house and you'll get the idea. The lechon (shredded pork) I enjoyed was pretty juicy and the black beans were yummy as well. The banana was clean and fresh. With this plate, maduros were extra (which I paid and enjoyed) as well as Cuban bread. The maduros weren't overly greasy but still tender and with the natural sweetness. The cuban bread was a little disappointing, as it was "flabby" (not well toasted) and came halfway through my meal. My banana carajillo (coffee liqueur) was well blended and a smooth way to beat the Sunday scaries. read more

Went over yesterday to try it for the first time, we were excited to try something different! When we arrived, it was pretty empty, maybe 2-3 tables throughout the whole restaurant were taken. We were sitting in the diner for over 10 minutes with no water, no one attending us, nothing - not even to let us know they'll be with us soon. We had two ladies that the staff sat next to us and they were served water with their utensils and all, immediately. Its unfortunate they treated us this way. Brought my friends from out of town here to try some of Miami's favorites and Chugs did not disappoint. Every single plate of food and drink that came out was delicious. You could not go wrong with choosing this for brunch or lunch any day of the week. My friends particularly liked the pastelitos, they spent the weekend asking if we could come back and order some more. Chugs is like a bad boyfriend that you just can't convince yourself to leave no matter how many times they mistreat you - inconsistent, lukewarm and has you walking away feeling a little bit greasy. But do I learn my lesson? No. I really do think their menu is creative and exciting but given the prices and the fact that they are on the Michelin Bib Gourmand list, you would expect a little more precision and consistency with the food that they're serving. The pastelitos are always great (thankfully), the cast iron pancake put me in a coma and should probably come with a warning if you were to consume this all by yourself, and the quiche (when hot) is very tasty. The food was really good. We went here for an impromptu brunch on a Saturday morning. When we arrived we had about an hour wait, which wasn't a big deal we went to have at drink else where while we waited for our text. When we got seated we had the pan con busted which was amazing it was made with short rib that was perfectly seasoned and came with a sauce of the au jus. Jeez man, this was a really poor experience for me. I was staying at the Mr. C hotel down the road and was looking for something a bit less expensive than room service. I ended up here and ordered a smoked salmon omelette and a latte for 30 dollars. Then, it takes 38 minutes for them to bring me my COLD omelette. Why was it cold? Pros: plenty of seating, FAST service, I was in and out in less than 45 minutes during the morning rush. I sat at the bar because the entire place was packed, it was fun to watch their well oiled machine at work. I had the veggie hash and it was a dream, all my favorites squash, platanito... yum! The cappuccino was also creamy and delightful. We also bought some Pastelito papi pastelitos to-go and they were a magnificent breakfast the next day.
