The broccoli breakfast hash was really good! Also had an iced latte which was great. We sat outside and the courtyard was really nice with covered seating and greenery. I would definitely go back to try the pancake, it looked way too big to get with our mains. The waiter was very nice but took a bit to bring us some requested condiments after getting our food. But the more odd part was when I got the salt I'd asked for, I couldn't get any out of the shaker because the bottom of the lid was so crusty with build up? They put dry rice in the salt so it wasn't possible to use without the lid. I was already almost done so I didn't ask for another shaker. Came here on a Saturday morning and had to wait about 45 min for a table, but our server was very wonderful and helpful, the space is very modern "diner" which I love, and most of our food we got was really delicious. Looking forward to returning to try more items! Croquetas - ham was great, sausage gravy was great, egg and cheese was ok (a little dry and fell apart a little bit) Cast iron pancake was incredible. I've never left a negative review before, but this experience warranted one. I ordered the lechon hash and what arrived was essentially a plate of diced potatoes topped with two eggs, with maybe an ounce of shredded pork total. At first I assumed the pork had been forgotten, but when I asked, I was told it was there and that I just needed to "dig for it." That's not what anyone expects when ordering a dish centered around lechon. In a city full of restaurants trying to stretch margins at the expense of the customer experience, this unfortunately fits right in. Everything was just "OK" to me. I guess I had high expectations since they received a Michelin star, but....the cappuccino was mediocre. Next we ordered the cast iron pancake. It was pretty good but definitely not enough syrup for my liking. How are you supposed I to eat a giant 3" thick pancake with barely any syrup? We asked for more syrup and we later found out they charged us $4.00 for it which seems a bit petty. We also ordered the slam. Again just ok. The thick bacon sounds like a good thing (I mean, if bacon is good, more must be better, right?) but bacon is best when it is crispy (IMO) so thicker didn't equate to better. Service was pleasant and the outdoor area was a nice area to enjoy some shade and watch the world go by. So all in all, fun to try something new but not my thing. read more

In terms of customer service they were pretty good and I'd give them a 9/10 in that regard For ambiance, It was affected by some factors when i went there. There was a couple in the booth behind us who would not stop making out with loud kissing sounds. My partner had to switch seats because he couldn't even eat while looking at them. Additionally the person in the both in front of us was smoking which is obviously not ideal when trying to eat lunch. I feel like this could have been avoided if they sat customers a little further away from each other considering the rest of the restaurant was empty. The food was not impressive. I had a cast iron pancake and my partner had a burger with fries. We shared 1 croqueta which was below average, which is disappointing for a "cuban" restaurant. When I tried his burger it tasted strangely familiar to me... it hit me that it tasted exactly like a big mac from McDonalds. The most flavorful things were the sauces and lip smacking between the individuals behind us. For the pancake, which I'm not sure why they are known for this because pancakes are not speciality dishes made by typical cuban culture, I was very confused. When they brought it out I thought they had burned it by accident. I looked at the other reviews and pictures on yelp and realized this is the standard practice for their recipe. It was served with lots of flaky salt, a big dollop of butter on top and syrup underneath the actual pancake. It was hard to cut since it was burned on the outside but it was kind of fluffy inside. Without the syrup the pancake just tasted like a cake that was cooked in a rice cooker, which is strange. It also didn't help that all i could taste was a crunchy pancake served with a side of watermelon ice vape from our lovely patron in front of us. I could not finish the pancake and left unsatisfied. Immediately after I left I became nauseous. In good faith I cannot recommend Chug's Diner. If you enjoy subpar food and pancakes loaded with cholesterol with barely any flavor, I would say this could be the place for you. Waffle house might be a better match though. read more

Don't let the word "diner" fool you into thinking this is ordinary food. This gourmet eatery offers creatives twists on Cuban and diner staples. I expected regular Cuban food and instead was wowed by all the details into each dish i tried: Malanga latkes: at first they seem like your usual latkes, with a subtle flavor difference through the malanga (a root veggie similar to potato), but then you top it with their guava applesauce and it takes it to another level. That applesauce could be eaten in its own as a snack--subtly sweet, tropical and refreshing. Duck croquetas: 10/10 simply amazing. The duck croquette on its own is an experience--the duck was not fatty, it was condimented with herbs and whole grain mustard without being by overpowering but then there's the mustard orange jam to go with it, and this elevated it from great to superior. As strange as the flavors sound the jam has the right balance of citrus from the orange peel and just a touch of mustard seed to make it interesting. BEC croquetas: bacon egg and cheese croquetas taste like an entire breakfast meal in one bite. I would absolutely buy this for rushed breakfast in the go. Rice pudding blintz: subbing the usual custard for rice pudding made from broken rice it was wonderfully comforting. Though it was under the breakfast section it very well makes a good dessert--sweet, with a fruit compote to balance out the creaminess of the filling. Banana carajillo: a delicious twist on the classic carajillo, in line with all the trending banana lattes, this boozy option has a mild banana to give it just a unique twist on the classic cocktail. Comes in a small espresso shot glass. They serve Jojo tea and the chamomile was perfect to balance out the richness of the meal. Definitely coming back to try more! read more

We were excited to eat at Chug's and really wanted to like it. This diner is cozily nestled on Main Street in the heart of Coconut Grove. We've been hearing that this is a must try from IG influencers to Miami Heat players alike. It is a cute spot with indoor and outdoor seating available in the courtyard. Maybe the hype had our expectations a bit high, but we left full and underwhelmed. The breakfast sandwich was a'ight not great, eggs were ordered over easy but came out runny (which is tasty but oh so messy). It was a fried egg, with fried ham, mayo and cheese (I asked to remove potato sticks), served on a Cuban loaf. Meh, pretty heavy and greasy start. We both had American coffee and wow was it strong, the coffee was good. Now to the cast iron pancake... that was not freshly made. It was a super thick pancake that was fluffy on the middle, crispy on the outside, served over syrup with a heaping scoop of butter on top. You'd think this butter would start to melt, but it didn't the pancake was served room temperature. What a waste of calories... we wanted so badly to like it. The service we got from Meg was the highlight of the experience, she was friendly and attentive. Chug's is a place that I wanted to try for years. Walking around Coconut Grove this weekend, we decided to finally try it. I was very excited by the menu; it was hard to decide what to order. We decided to start with the tostones and buratta. We thought it was ... okay. Nothing amazing even though it was $19. I ordered the abuela's plate: rice, beans, and lechón. The eggs and potatoes were cooked perfectly. It was 3 eggs so there was a lot of food! but please please butter your tostada next time!! This is two different experiences in one review. First visit (for lunch, I've been here for breakfast) sat inside and I had the Frita , I loved it ... it tasted like the ones my dad use to make growing up. The place has an upscale diner quality to it, I like the meshing of the Cuban food mixed with Americana. In essence it's a Cuban American diner. Love the concept and execution of it all. My second visit was for dinner. I finally got to try the famous Chug burger. The first 3 or 4 bites the burger tasted funny. I examined the burger and figured out I really did not like the house made pickles, which is a shame because I love dill pickles on my burger. Overall the burger was good and I would order again (hold the pickles tho) We sat outside and it was very romantic at dusk. We had heard really good things about this place. I made a reservation for 8 pm on OpenTable but when we arrived, I realized that we did not need it because the place was empty. I found this to be a little concerning being a Friday night, and the Grove was busy, but nonetheless we took a table outside and began to peruse the menu. The attention was very good and friendly, and our server was more than helpful with recommendations. We ordered a couple of cocktails, which our server recommended and a Tostones dish to start. For entrées my wife selected the snapper, and I went with the recommended pan con bistec (steak sandwich). First round of drinks and the tostones appetizer came out pretty quickly, and they were a HIT! The tostones were fresh and crispy and you can taste that banana flavor bursting through, and they came with a delicious manchego cheese to spread on them. Loved them! The cocktails were very tasty, and were only $9 during happy hour. My wife got the Guava gimlet, and I got the Flan old-fashioned. Our entrées came out in a timely manner, and everything was delicious. Easily one of the best steak sandwiches I've ever had! We really enjoyed our visit. Our server was wonderful, and the food was delicious. I don't understand why on a Friday night in the Grove it wasn't busy, because this place is serving up some amazing food. I love Chug's! I even went twice on my most recent weekend trip to Miami. I also in general love Coconut Groove, so the setting definitely doesn't hurt. Their iced cafe con leche is so tasty if you like your coffee a little sweeter and I dream about those guava and cheese pastelitos. So freaking delicious! The breakfast is also just spot on. The eggs are always perfectly cooked and seasoned well, the breakfast potatoes are impressive, and both their broccoli and cheese and lechon hash are amazing. I usually also can't stop myself from ordering the skillet pancake with clarified butter for the table. I generally order far too much food, but it's okay since I don't get to come here often. Generally the wait isn't too bad and often you are seated right away. They do have a bar area you can sit at.
