I have wanted to try Chug's Diner for a while, and I was finally able to find a day where it worked. I am so glad that day finally arrived. Chug's is the kind of place that screams comfort for food. There is nothing fancy here. Just beautiful, indoor and outdoor seating in a diner type atmosphere with excellent food and even better service. I must admit that, even in major cities like New York and Miami the parking gods smile on me. As is strangely usual for me, as I drove up to the restaurant on a busy Sunday morning, someone pulled out only steps away from my destination, leaving me a space to pull into. Walked up to the restaurant since they do not take reservations on Sunday mornings and put my name in. I was informed of the wait, which was not a problem because it was a beautiful day to walk around. I peruse the neighborhood, seeing other lovely restaurants and shops before being informed that my table was ready quite quickly. It was a gorgeous day to sit outside, but the first table that opened up was indoors, and it was kind of nice to enjoy the ambience of an old style diner. Perused the menu, which was quite nice, but told I could only order from the brunch menu, which was a little bit restrictive. We ordered La Completa with smoked salmon, a pancake with Nutella and bananas, and a milkshake and french fries for dipping pleasure. Everything was excellent. Service was over the top good. Really enjoyed it and will be back. I always feel I have to explain why I leave four stars instead of five at a restaurant that I love. In this case it is specifically because there was nothing creative about the pancake. They start with an exquisite preparation, but do nothing to make it extraordinary. For example, served with fruit compote and nuts or ice cream and sliced fruit or any other creative arrangement could really elevate the dish, making it both picture worthy and enticing to return to try more options. Despite that minor criticism, I really love this place and will be back and even try other meals here. Oh and don't forget to hold my parking space.

Had an amazing experience at Chug's Diner in Coconut Grove. The food was packed with flavor and perfectly captured that Cuban-American comfort food vibe Miami is known for. Everything tasted fresh, from the pastries and croquetas to the main dishes, and you can tell a lot of care goes into every plate. The atmosphere was lively, welcoming, and had the perfect mix of neighborhood diner charm and modern Miami energy. The staff was friendly, attentive, and made the experience even better. Whether you're stopping in for breakfast, brunch, or dinner, this is one of those spots that keeps you thinking about your meal long after you leave. Definitely worth the visit and I'll be back again soon.

Location is very well taken care of and decorated in a very welcoming lighthearted fashion. The food was great to good. Not everything was at the same level, pancake was insanely good, tried the 50/50 croqueta and the lechon hash. Both were very good but were not anything that would blow your mind away. The reason why this is a 3 and not a 4 is simple. The service. We were sat down. Handed waters. And had other tables sat down and tended to before we were asked if we wanted to order drinks. This amongst the couple of missed requests on the order is the only reason it's getting knocked down a peg. I'd definitely be open to come back and try more

If you are looking for an iconic Coconut Grove restaurant, I present to you Chug's Diner, a critically acclaimed Cuban-American diner founded by Chef Michael Beltran. It first opened in 2019 as a pop up before expanding into a full-service, 70-seat restaurant in September 2021. Chug's is known for its Michelin Bib Gourmand status highlighting restaurants that offer high-quality, delicious food at a great value Chug's menu fuses traditional American diner fare with the flavors of Cuba. I decided to grab lunch after the King Mango Strut Parade. I found seating at the counter but they have comfy looking booths, tables, and outside patio seating too. The menu is broken into sections for brunch, croquetas, pastelitos, snacks/picadera, salad and platters, entrees, sides, and handhelds. A counter in the restaurant sells breakfast sandwiches, pastries, coffee, and beverages to take out customers. I ordered the Diner Burger with lettuce, pickles, Chug's sauce, and American Cheese along with a side of fries. It was a large and satisfying portion of food. I especially appreciated the friendly and caring employees. My server made sure I had plenty of water before my meal came which I really appreciated since I suffering the effects of the heat from the parade. Nothing says Miami more than Cuban cuisine. I think you will be pleasantly surprised by the twist Chug's puts on it.

"Tami in Miami" brunch series review! Who doesn't love brunch? Perfect cheat day indulgence with your special friends & loved ones. Today we tried Chug's in Coconut Grove, and SO glad we did! Yep, It's a wait and parking was a b*tch, but we finally lucked out after a few passbys with a great space out front. No RSVP for brunch, so we got on wait list and strolled around the beautiful grove. All good! After about 25 mins, we got a table. Place is comfy & cute, lively. Floors are cement, upscale "diner-esque." Staff is great, menu selections unique and amazing! Don't be shy about asking for recommendations or looking at Yelp photos. WOW!! We got the famous HUGE-mongous pancake, the likes of which I've not seen. Like an actual CAKE size, and we added banana slices & chocolate. It's the perfect moist, yet still fluffy texture, baked like top/outer, sitting in a pool of delicious syrup and yet, not soggy?! SCORE-great choice!! We Could not finish it together. I also tried the chocolate shake and fries--worth it! It's for dipping the perfect light crispy bistro fries in thick chocolate shake. Yaaaassss-brunch nirvana. Hubby got a meal and Americano coffee, pictured here. He loved it, minus the eggs which he said were not cooked over easy to his liking. Oh, well. Not my eating experience, so I can't comment. *Pet peeve: I never like a $4 ice tea that doesn't come with complimentary refills, AND it was small. I also knew enough to ask, so as not an unpleasant surprise afterwards!! Ugh, really? Just charge an extra dollar or two guys and give refills!! I loved this quick diner spot! Our server was a sweet young girl who helped me pick the snapper. I loved the pickled salad it came with, but I think the fish needed a bit more seasoning itself? Loved their fries so much, I almost ate all my husbands. He enjoyed his patty melt 110%

The good part - the food was very good. I get why they had the Michelen nod. The iron pancake was a carb of sweet and savory goodness with the salted butter and syrup. The latkes were crispy outside and soft inside and on point with the seasoning. The breakfast sandwich was a winner. The breakfast burrito was solid with great sauce. (TBH The regular breakfast plate was meh but tasty). I would want to try more things on the menu BUT: The what is going on here part - service is not good. As in we had to physically leave our seats to get water several times. And check on our coffee order multiple times. (It came AFTER our meal was done and five reminders). And retrieve standard table items like sweetener and drink menus etc from the bussers station. Our waiter was friendly but the hosts/runners were doing the absolute least. We bussed our own table. The scan to pay and split the check was a nice touch. It made leaving with our just arrived coffee a little easier.

Chug's is a brunch spot in the heart of the Grove serving classic Cuban cuisine. The coffee is good, the food is good, the service is good; what's not to like? I got an iced vanilla latte with oat milk and a la completa for my dish. The food came out relatively quick despite being their usual state of busy. The potatoes were delicious and had perfect crunch, and the eggs were seasoned nicely and made just how I like. We also got their popular pancake to share since it's huge, and that was also soft and yummy. Overall, you can't go wrong at Chug's!

I went for lunch during the week and it was fairly busy. Thankfully, we were seated quickly and the waiter came to our table right away. The menu offers a good variety of options. I got the Cuban American sandwich with the salad, which was EXCELLENT! You could tell the food was cooked fresh and the dressing for salad was so good. Definitely will be back to try more items!

The reason I'm giving a four star review and not a five star is I wasn't please with our server and lack of attention. All "he" did was take our order, after that never saw "him" again. The food here is amazing and I will absolutely be back when I'm in the area. You can tell they take the food here serious and everything was absolutely fresh. Watching all the plates coming out I knew the food was going to be good. I will highly recommend this if you're in the area.

Went here for breakfast/brunch on a Saturday and despite being busy, we had a great experience. We ordered the cafe con leche which was great but I was really impressed by the cortadito drink, which is a hot espresso with sweetened evaporated milk. It was sweet and creamy and really balanced out the coffee flavor. For food we had: Cast Iron Pancake: 4.8/5 Really impressive all around, tasted like a combination of pancake and shortbread, and the syrup and butter was perfect with it. I can see how you could get tired of eating the same flavor after a couple bites so I recommend sharing this and another dish with other people in your group. Duck Croqueta: 1/5 I had high hopes for the croqueta but it ultimately was disappointing. My wife and I love duck but we were pretty unhappy with how this tasted. It was bland mush inside and the coating/fry wasn't great either. Pan con bistec: 4.5/5 This sandwich was a great steak sandwich. It was a pretty standard steak sandwich with a nice au jus dip and the texture on the steak and little potato crisps inside were great. Overall, I enjoyed the food and coffee but wouldn't get the croqueta again. read more

On the contrary to many reviews, the service was really good. Tried 3 dishes in total. We tried their famous cast iron pancake didn't live up to the hype. The proportion was enough to share for 2 even 3 really. It was very bland. When asked for extra syrup it was a $5 up charge. 4/10. Tried their bacon appetizer dish. 3 thick cut slices of bacon with a touch of lime on the side. The bacon was average however the price point.. $17?! Couldn't get past it. 4/10. The Cuban American sandwich, as much as i love messy food.. the amount of grease was a bit overwhelming. Chose the salad as a side & was blown away from how good it was! The salad itself was a 10/10, the sandwich 7/10. Overall, the atmosphere was amazing, service was great & food is opinion based, definitely go for it. I definitely see myself going back for that salad & trying new dishes! read more

Always expect a wait unless you choose to sit outside. I personally don't like to sweat while I eat. But whether you choose to sit inside or outside, expect to wait and the wait is usually worth it! We usually get the pancake skillet to share as an appetizer. It's our go-to and usually the reason we come here. I say it's big enough for 3-4 people. We also tried the croquettas and they were really good so I recommend trying them too. Honestly everything on their menu is delicious. It's no wonder there is always a wait. I did however feel like they lacked in their quality of service. read more

Fluffy, golden, stacked to the heavens, and so good they'll make you forget every sad IHOP memory of your childhood. These aren't pancakes, they're edible throw pillows from heaven. Chug's doesn't just sling breakfast--it redefines it. The pancakes are the headline act, but the whole vibe is like Miami decided diners deserved to glow up. You've got café con leche flowing like lifeblood, pastelitos tucked on the menu like contraband, and enough comfort food to cure a hangover you haven't even had yet. It's part diner, part abuela's kitchen, part fever dream. The pancakes though--lord. Crispy edges, fluffy centers, drenched in syrup until you're basically trespassing into dessert territory. You don't eat them, you ascend. And the scene? Classic Miami--families, hipsters, hungover twenty-somethings, and foodies all fighting for fork space. So excited to try this place and ended up coming on a Saturday morning. There was a 30-40 minute wait and we ended up walking down the street to the Coconut Grove Farmers market to head a coffee while we waited. They sat us in their cute outside patio area and we really appreciated all of the fans they had running to keep us as cool as you can be in the south Florida heat. Ordered the lechón sandwich, pan con bistec, breakfast fried rice, and the famous pancake! The lechón sandwich can with a perfectly fried egg that melded well with the pork and the bun was outstanding. The breakfast fried rice was delicious, filling and topped again with a perfectly fried egg. The pan con bistec was not only huge, flavorful and topped perfectly melted cheese and caramelizad onions it also came with an au jus sauce to dip in. It was perfect to dip the crusty bread in. The pancake! Absolutely HUGE. It has a nice crust from the pan cook and is surprisingly light for how it looks. It wasn't too sweet like some pancake batter can be and it pairs really well with the butter and flaky salt that they top it with. Overall great place to sit and have breakfast and their menu had a big list of things I'd love to come back and try again. read more

Go to spot in the grove for a casual dinner. Menu feels homey and diner-style AND manages to still be top quality eats. Plus you can get breakfast bites all day. Portions are generous. I love the duck croquetas, the lechón hash, and the frita patty melt. The salads are also large if you're feeling some healthier eats. Don't miss out on their happy hour or their 99cent martinis! Also if you feel nostalgic there is a shake and fry combo to satisfy that salty sweet craving. Patio seating outdoors or diner vibes indoors, both will lock in a great time. read more

Food here was soooo yummy!! The pancake was huge but absolutely delicious. It's huge and 6 of us struggled to finish it but had to take it home. You can't go wrong with any of the food, everything was great. The service was great - friendly and helpful. My only complaint is that it was a little slow even thought it wasn't too busy. Overall, i had a great time eating here! read more

This place was packed for Sunday brunch!!!! As I always say, when there's a line, the food must be worth it. Today was no exception. This is a cozy place in Miami's Coconut Grove area with very nice vintage seating and tables. The food was excellent. Their signature pancake is must try. It's very thick, and smooth, with a crisp outer layer. The chefs breakfast was inexpensive but wealthy in flavor. The rice and eggs were cooked to perfection and seasoned lightly to taste. Overall, this was a great brunch and a must try when in Miami! 10 out of 10. read more

Outside dining was a great vibe. Loved the 99cent martinis on Thursdays from 6-7. The dirty martini had a slight pickle flavor but was still good. The Chicken Caesar salad was good and had tasty dressing. Fries were great too. Our waitress was very nice but a little slow to come back to our table at times. Overall a good experience and would go back to try more of their menu! read more

Had an excellent experience at Chug's today. The inside provides a bit of an old school vibe with booth seating and counter service. I heard great things about the food but the service was outstanding as well. Yanalissa (I hope I spelled that right) provided excellent service and care. She offered great recommendations for me to choose. I got the Milanesa and it was delicious. Super filling too. To wash it down, I also got the guava lemonade, recommend ordering. The pancakes were HUGE. I wanted to try but was dining solo today and had no more room. Will be back for sure. read more

Delicious food! Definitely worth the trip to the grove. My spritz was refreshing and just right for the very hot afternoon. I ordered the croquetas chicken without expecting a lot and they were so full of flavor and the right amount of crunchiness in the outside. The hash asado plate was also full of flavor and definitely a great dish to share. We couldn't leave this place without trying their famous pancake and it didn't disappoint. Fluffy and sweet. And very big to share for the whole table. A staple for brunch in the grove. read more

This place is super cute diner vibes and had Cuban music playing. The food was amazing I had the completa added the ham, we ordered the chugs slam which was also delicious and we had to try their famous pancake, which was HUGE and honestly more of a cake than a pancake. We tried the mimosas which were super refreshing. You can tell it's one of those places that anything you order will be good. The service was Ok , not super attentive. This place would of gotten 5 stars but towards the end of my meal we saw a cockroach running by our feet, I quickly told the server about it and he killed it and disposed of it but didn't apologize or speak to us again. read more

I've never left a negative review before, but this experience warranted one. I ordered the lechon hash and what arrived was essentially a plate of diced potatoes topped with two eggs, with maybe an ounce of shredded pork total. At first I assumed the pork had been forgotten, but when I asked, I was told it was there and that I just needed to "dig for it." That's not what anyone expects when ordering a dish centered around lechon. I'm angry with how much i loved this place. after our flight to miami we decided to dine here for brunch. we started off with their cold brew mixed with lemonade and soda water, very interesting and I highly recommend. the pancake is a non-negociable, BUT my favorite dish was my partners food. he ordered the short rib boliche and oh my gosh it was probably top 5 best things i've ever eaten and this is coming from a cuban family. overall, great experience. read more

The broccoli breakfast hash was really good! Also had an iced latte which was great. We sat outside and the courtyard was really nice with covered seating and greenery. I would definitely go back to try the pancake, it looked way too big to get with our mains. The waiter was very nice but took a bit to bring us some requested condiments after getting our food. But the more odd part was when I got the salt I'd asked for, I couldn't get any out of the shaker because the bottom of the lid was so crusty with build up? They put dry rice in the salt so it wasn't possible to use without the lid. I was already almost done so I didn't ask for another shaker. Came here once but the wait was two hours. We returned on a Tuesday at 1pm and while it was empty the service was extremely slow. It took forever in between almost like they forgot about us. I reallllllly wanted to like this place. As a Cuban I love trying Cuban food outside of my home and experiencing our people sharing our culture. This place sadly disappointed me. First, the air was broken which i understand could happen, but there were no fans and it was suffocating. Everything was pretty mediocre and lacked flavor. Another great visit ro Chug's. Had to wait 45-50 min (arrived ~11:30am) but food was great always and service was friendly and attentive. Started with the candied bacon, I had the Cast Iron Pancake (Huge & delicious!) With a Bacon/Egg/Cheese Croquette on the side (nice!). My wife had the Breakfast Sandwich which she really likes. Along with this location at the Citadel food court in Little River (just north of Little Haiti), Manjay has a casual strip location near the Miami airport in Doral. We booked a 6:30 PM reservation so we could grab a happy hour drink before hand. I think the cocktails at the happy hour bar are different from the regular menu. I had an apricot gin cocktail that I didn't love, but was decent and a slow slipper and my husband had a campari cocktail that is great if you like campari. The bartender was accommodating and overheard me asking my husband if he knew how to spritz the lemon peel like she did but he hadn't been paying attention so she did it again. For dinner, I spotted the table next to us dining on the rolls and Caesar salad and decided I wanted both. The server mentioned that salad is one of their most popular. The rolls were light and fluffy, and very large with sweet and savory honey butter. The Caesar salad was good. It comes out as large leafs of romaine, which is a nice presentation but I do think that leads to breadcrumb and dressing distribution being uneven. It was a very good salad dressing though, not too tart or heavy but still creamy and zesty. For our entrees we had the cavatelli with duck ragu which was my favorite. There were both crispy and tender elements to the duck and the pasta just melted in your mouth. We saved a tiny bit of it to take home because we couldn't stop nibbling on it, and it was great the next day too. They brought our steak out after our pasta. We should have specified we wanted them at the same time. By the time our steak arrived we were pretty full. The steak was served tender and juicy. We got the Prime Hanger. I appreciated that the server mentioned their two less expensive cuts were very popular instead of trying to upsell us on their pricier options, as we were very happy with this option. We had some steak leftover as well which was delicious the next day too. As it was perfectly medium rare, we were able to heat it up on a skillet without it overcooking much. We ordered the Bernaise sauce with our steak, but it was not necessary and I probably would have skipped it. Service was good and pretty efficient. They made sure to check on us frequently but the meal was good without any additions. I don't remember if when booking I requested an outdoor table but their patio is quite hot in summer. I think they need some outdoor fans to help with the heat as I was shvitzing a bit. If I were to visit again in the summer I would make sure to specify the need for an indoor table, but I'm sure it's lovely in the winter months. There was also the occasionally fly near our food which did kill the mood a bit and some table fans might help with. There is a gravel parking lot next to the restaurant. When we arrived there was only one spot available so it does fill up.

Chug's Diner is my go-to breakfast spot on weekends lately, and this morning marked my lucky seventh visit to this pancake paradise. I was so hooked on their fluffy pancake lake that I invited my youngest daughter and her husband for a brunch adventure. Let me tell you, that pancake is a magical creation! Cooked in an oven on a hot iron skillet and generously soaked in natural maple syrup, it's like a dream on a plate. I've never seen a pancake so large and fluffy in my life. It's the kind of pancake that could double as a pillow if you're in dire need of a pancake-induced nap. Now, I must warn you about the popular demand for this delightful joint. The place was packed, and we had to wait a whopping 45 minutes to be seated. It seems like everyone in South Florida had the same idea of seeking refuge in the cool air-conditioned comfort of Chug's during this mid-July heatwave. But hey, during our SFL winter, they have plenty of outdoor dining to enjoy. Our waiter, Arnold, was a friendly and helpful soul. He guided us through the menu with expert recommendations. I, personally, couldn't resist their killer steak sandwich, while the rest of the gang opted for some hearty breakfast options. To top it all off, we ordered the legendary pancake for dessert and had the audacity to split it between all four of us. It was a pancake pilgrimage that ended in sweet, syrupy satisfaction. All in all, our brunch experience at Chug's Diner was fantastic, and I'm already daydreaming about my next visit. As a long time Grovite I decided to give this place a shot and it was by far the worst dining experience I've had in Miami. From the moment we walked in to the moment we left everything went wrong. I brought my family from out of town here to try their brunch. The host had no idea what was going on in the restaurant and told our party that it would be an 30 minute long wait even though there were multiple tables open. We decided to take a walk for about 30 minutes and then returned to be told it would be another 30 minutes. This is frustrating since we could have just eaten down the street at Green street for better food and service. We ended up only having to wait about 15 minutes more after finally getting sat outside even though we'd requested inside. We didn't see a server for over 15 minutes and never got water. Finally we got tended to and we asked to have a breakdown on the menu, the server said that people usually just order and had no recommendations. Clearly didn't know anything about the food. So we just picked what we thought looked good. Food took about 45 minutes and we received the wrong tables order twice... All this for some mediocre breakfast. I ordered the steak and eggs and asked for my steak medium rare. The server never told me it would be some brisket style meat. I would've ordered something else. My wife asked to speak to a manager and no one came to the table even once. We had to constantly track down someone for water. Food, service, price and Managment are all what is wrong with your restaurant. Horrible experience. read more

I came to Chugs for the first time, and I have to say, it was a HUGE disappointment. The ambiance is very diner style. The service was painfully slow--right from the start, it took a while for a server to even approach our table. It really set a bad tone for the rest of the meal. We started with the Buffalo Chicken Croquetas as an appetizer, and wow, what a letdown. There was nothing "buffalo" about these croquetas. They lacked any real flavor, and to top it off, the sauce tasted like bottled Crystal buffalo sauce--definitely not homemade, and it really showed. For my entrée, I ordered the Pan con Lechón. Unfortunately, it was just a massive amount of bread with barely any filling. The lechón itself was dry, and the whole thing felt unbalanced, like the ratio of bread to meat was way off. Also ordered the Diner Burger, and while it was okay, it was pretty basic. Honestly, it tasted much better when I had it at Ariete, so it was a real letdown to see the same item fall so flat here. We also decided to get the chocolate shake to pair with the burger, but again, it was nothing special--just your average shake and way overpriced for what it was. Overall, the experience was very disappointing, especially given the high price point of their dishes. The slow service, lackluster flavors, and underwhelming portions make it hard for me to recommend Chugs to anyone. There are definitely better options out there for the same price (or less), and I don't think I'll be returning anytime soon. read more

I am extremely irritated by my experience here I came here for brunch with my sons and was told it would be a 1 hour wait so we turned to walk away and the host told us never mind we could be sat immediately which was very confusing but we were guided to a table outside even though there were many empty tables inside and we'd said we preferred inside. We didn't see a server for over 15 minutes after being sat but did however see the servers congregating over by the fountain area along with the host. When we finally received water we'd asked the server if we could be moved to a table and she rudely said no that they were full inside due to the waitlist which is understandable if they were actually full and then proceeded to cut me off and ask if we knew what we wanted. After reviewing the menu and getting ready to order we didn't see our server again for over 15 minutes and we had no water so we got up and left. Like many reviews here, I see the common denominator is clearly lack of management. All in all an entire waste of almost an hour of my time with my sons visiting. Very upsetting. You need to get it together Chug's. read more

To be completely honest, I'm not sure how this restaurant earned a Michelin star. The food was decidedly average and not worth the lengthy wait. The restaurant doesn't take reservations, so I was told there was a 30-minute wait but ended up waiting an hour and a half to be seated. While the indoor space is cozy, the outdoor seating in Miami's heat was not an option for me. Once seated, our service started off well but quickly declined. I requested a Coke in a plastic cup with ice, but was only given the cup with ice. It took 15 minutes to get the actual Coke, despite watching our server chat with coworkers. After we finished our meal, we waited 30-45 minutes before we had to ask a different server to bring us the check. I also had to forgo a to-go box after waiting 10 minutes and decided it wasn't worth waiting any longer. As for the food, the bacon tasted like any other bacon, and the Cuban American sandwich, while not bad, was similarly unremarkable. The Miami mimosa was decent, but overall, the experience was underwhelming. Based on this visit, I'm not inclined to return. read more

Wow I had high hopes for chugs but his place was a let down as I'd been to other ariete restaurants and always saw the vision but coming here shows they're just another Miami restaurant group trying too hard. The food was horrible and horribly overpriced (rice and beans and frozen chicken for $20? Come on man) the service is nonexistent which is probably due to lack of management (see other reviews) I waited over an hour for food because my server "forgot to put the order in" and disappeared to a corner to smoke her vape with who I assume was the manager also smoking a vape I had no beverage for over 20 minutes. They hire order takers not servers and clearly have no management control. I am very disappointed in this rip off of a classic Cuban spot where even the coffee was gross. Rip off blehhh read more

We waited on the waitlist just like everybody else. Multiple times we were approached and asked to hurry up with our meal so that they could seat the next group on their list... The Michelin guide is the reason we came here. Horrible recommendation. We had to get up and ask the host for water because our server disappeared. The sandwich was basic, something you could easily make at home, and the lechón hash didn't even resemble the flavor or texture of real lechón. Service was just okay.
