A Few Hits, But Overall Not Quite Our Experience We recently stopped by Chulita for dinner with family. There were definitely a few things we enjoyed, but unfortunately, the overall experience didn't quite leave us wanting to come back. When we walked in, the host asked if we had a reservation. We said no, and after a brief pause, she asked us to step out of the way because a guest in a wheelchair was trying to exit. Of course, we were happy to move and give them space. Once they were able to get through, we walked back in and were simply pointed toward a table near the entrance. We completely understand that restaurants have to work around different circumstances and accommodate guests, but this was our first impression. A simple "Hi, welcome in!" or a little more direction when seating us would have gone a long way toward making us feel welcomed. Our server for the beginning of the meal was actually covering for our assigned server, who was on break. He explained that he was just filling in until our original server returned, which was completely understandable. What stood out, though, was that he seemed more focused on explaining that he was only covering than on making us feel like he was happy to have us as his table. I honestly don't remember if he introduced himself because the emphasis was more on letting us know that our regular server was on break. Nothing was wrong with him covering our table, we completely understood but a little more warmth and enthusiasm would have made the interaction feel more welcoming. I asked if I could get a Shirley Temple, but they didn't have the ingredients, so I went with a Mexican Coke instead. Then came the food. We ordered the esquites, and this was probably the dish where our expectations and what arrived at the table differed the most. Having grown up eating esquites in the traditional elotero style, we were expecting those familiar flavors and toppings. What we received was much more like corn with lime. I understand that restaurants put their own spin on traditional dishes, but it just wasn't what we were expecting when we ordered esquites. I ordered the chicken tinga taco. The portion was definitely generous, but the chicken was a little dry. There was also so much chicken that it could have easily made two tacos rather than one very full taco with two tortillas. The chips and guacamole were probably the easiest win of the night. One small traditional touch we missed was a lime wedge on the side. In our family, and in the restaurants we grew up around, serving lime alongside guacamole is a pretty standard and familiar touch. We also would have appreciated having salt at the table for those of us who like to add a little extra to our food. Another small observation from a restaurant perspective: the white cloth napkins were perfectly clean when we received them. However, as we ate, they naturally picked up food, sauces, and whatever else ends up on a napkin during dinner, which made them visibly look quite dirty as the meal went on. This is one reason many restaurants opt for darker napkins, they tend to hold up a little better visually throughout the meal. Our original server eventually returned from his break. At one point, he came over to refill my sister's water and stood very close behind my chair while pouring. I had to adjust myself so that we wouldn't bump into each other. Definitely a small thing, but those little moments of awareness can make table service feel more comfortable. There were some bright spots. The ceviche was good, and the portions overall were generous. My 16yr old niece described her barbacoa tacos as simply "alright," so they weren't a standout for her, but everyone's palate is different. The churros were a bit odd of traditional Mexican churro, not quite sure how to explain this one though. We also noticed that the table behind us seemed to have an issue with their order, and toward the end of our meal, it took quite a while to get our check. I'm sharing all of this from a place of genuine feedback, especially because I come from a family that owns restaurants. I know how much goes into running a restaurant and how many moving parts there are behind the scenes. I also know that sometimes it's the smallest details, the greeting when someone walks through the door, the warmth of the server, a little lime with the guacamole, that can completely change how a guest remembers their experience. For us, Chulita just didn't quite hit the mark this time. There were things we enjoyed, but when you add up the food, service, and little details, it wasn't an experience that made us want to return. Hopefully, some of this feedback is helpful because a few small changes could make a big difference in how welcomed and taken care of guests feel. I think this version reads much more like a Yelp story than a checklist of complaints. Chulita is a vibe! Stop by on Father's Day and was thankful that there were reservations (as someone eating without a father). From the start, the host and servers were super kind and friendly. The space was warm, inviting, and just felt like a good place to be in. The servers were helpful in providing me with options for what I wanted to order. After seeing Chulita on my IG ads, I made sure to add it to my list of places to try. It was a breeze to make a last minute reservation on Resy for three people on a Friday night. The inside space definitely reminded me of Tulum. If you're looking for something less traditional with very unique flavors, this place is a must! The food is good overall. I was a little bit disappointed with the esquites as they looked very appetizing but the taste was really confusing in a way. I wish there was a better way for me to describe the esquites lol. It's more of an intimate, cozy setting. We sat in the bar area and the vibe was relaxed and lively. The Coliflor Fundido was the star of the night. Honestly some of the best fundido I've had. La chulita is a restaurant that needs more attention because it definitely is a gem! It's located in mid town Los Angeles. The parking is kind of difficult to be honest you're going to have to park in the residential area to park if you can't find parking on the street. The ambiance is a Mexican retro style restaurant that serves and specializes in mezcal. They have other drinks which is cool but I took my mother here and we both enjoyed it . We had a great dining experience at Chulita. Located in the West Adams neighborhood, situated on a corner lot. The higher-end restaurant appeal was there. The ambiance very much resembled the culture of the food. Customer service was also amazing. Our server was so on top of it, and made sure everything was to our liking. Food wise, I can highly recommend the Carne Asada (Steak) Taco. The shredded beef taco was a bit on the oily side, and very similar to birria. I always like it when a place does something different. Went to this place to try one of their breakfast burritos, and not only was it good, it was different from others I've had, and in interesting ways. It's called the Burrito De Desayno, and is described on the menu as being "Hash Brown, Scrambled Eggs, Ayocote Beans, Queso Oaxaca, Vegan Charred Onion Aioli [and your] Choice of Vegan Chorizo or Chicken Apple Sausage." It's the Queso Oaxaca and that really make this one. I've never had a burrito -- breakfast or otherwise -- that was so gooey with cheese. It might also explain why it was so filling. Glad I didn't order a side. Along with the burrito, I also had an iced latte, and while it was good, it was also a little on the small side. Though only a little. As for the place itself, it was clean and very light and sunny, lots of windows. The place was empty when I went (11AM on a Wednesday), so there was only one person working the front, but he was friendly and attentive. The food also came out in a timely manner. As for parking, I found a spot right on the side street, though there were also spots on the street itself. But one note: there's a school next door, and when I went, it was recess, so the air was filled with the sound of kids playing. Or screaming bloody murder. It was hard to tell. Personally, I couldn't care less -- especially since the restaurant was playing some sweet soul music, and at a reasonable volume -- but if the sounds of kids playing gets on your nerves, plan accordingly. read more

Vegan Queso - 4 STARS - it was too watered down for my liking Ceviche - 5 STARS - Hamachi is always great and the sauce resembled an aguachile sauce. The fish was chunky and great quality it was really fresh too. Chile Relleno - 4 STARS - usually I love Chile relleno but this one had too much sauce and the Chile was really hard to find. I added barbacoa and that was really good and they added a lot! Quesadillas with/ barbacoa - 5 STARS - this was probably my fave. My husband got this and I regretted not getting a quesadilla but luckily he gave me few bites to try. Chocolate Pudding - 5 STARS - Amazing...no notes. I loved the raspberry topping. The chocolate was so rich, creamy and delicious. Pumpkin Churros - 4 STARS - these were vegan (I think) but they were for sure gluten free which my mom loved. Had brunch here yesterday on Father's Day before we hit the road to spend the day with family. First off, no kids menu is a no bueno. The early morning crowd is going to have kids. Like us and two other tables around us yesterday. Next, the actual food... I see the idea but the flavor wasn't all there. After a stroll through our neighborhood farmers market, we headed down West Adams in search of a new breakfast spot -- and we're so glad we did! We ordered two cocktails a Mezcal Negroni and I forgot the name, but it was one of their spicy margaritas both are very good. The food was delicious. We got the ceviche, cauliflower fundido, a fish taco and the vegan cauliflower taco. Everything was full of flavor and delicious. It came out fast, but not too fast. Everything was timed well. The natural colors and furniture of the restaurant gives you a relaxing feel. The restaurant has seating inside as well seating inside. We ordered from the entradas menu. We enjoyed the guacamole with picot de gallo. I have the quesadillas which are made with heirloom corn tortillas, queso oaxaca, pipian de calabash. The brunch menu is extensive. Chulita is one of my favorite restaurants on Adams. Great for breakfast, brunch, or dinner. Highly recommend the beach burrito. The Arrachera steak was pretty good as well. They have a wide range of tequila and mezcal options, and all of their cocktails are great. I recommend La Chulita if you like a spicy mezcal cocktail. Our servers were great and checked on us often. Prices are very reasonable for the area and level of dining. Street parking can be hard to come when it's busy, but I usually don't have a problem finding a spot. read more

My first time at this restaurant and it was super cute. Friendly service and tasty food. Menu is small but easy to find something you will like. My friend had a Jamaica cocktail that looked and smelled amazing. She really enjoyed it. We had the Guacamole which had good flavor. I ordered 3 tacos fish, Nopales and steak. Chulita has really tasty food and the flavors were fresh and enjoyable. Every dish we ordered was well prepared, and you can tell care goes into the quality and presentation. The overall atmosphere was lively and welcoming. However, the service experience took away from what could have been a perfect visit. Our finished plates remained on the table for a while and were only cleared after we asked. Additionally, we were offered the check before we had the opportunity to order coffee, which made the experience feel a bit rushed. The menus were also taken away and not left on the table, which made it harder to continue ordering at our own pace. The food itself was great, but improving attentiveness and allowing guests to enjoy their meal without feeling rushed would make a big difference.
