My sister Ashley and I recently had dinner at Alta, and we truly enjoyed everything--the delicious food, the welcoming atmosphere, and the outstanding service! I ordered the lamb, which was cooked to absolute perfection. The bread paired beautifully with the flavorful seasoned jam sauce--it was such a delicious combination. And what can I say about the modern banana caramel split? It was rich, satisfying, and completely out of this world! The homemade ice cream was an experience all by itself. The flavor was extraordinary, and the entire dessert was truly second to none. From the moment we walked through the doors, the hostess was warm, caring, and helpful. The customer service was professional, friendly, and inviting. Our servers were attentive throughout the entire evening, very knowledgeable about the menu, and took great care in answering all our questions. Last night was my first time dining at Alta Adam's. They have street parking (if you're lucky) or valet parking for $15. As soon as I walked in, the host was very friendly and welcoming. He checked us in right away and since we arrived before the rest of our party (party of 4), we sat at the bar for a few drinks prior to dinner. The bartenders were Joey and Lawrence ..... amazing and friendly bartenders! Lawrence suggested the peach&peas (gin based) ... I was skeptical but I went with his suggestion. It was so good I got another glass! The drink was sweet and refreshing. A must try! Side note, I noticed the beautiful art work on the wall at the bar ... definitely caught my eye and I will post the picture! As for the food... everything was absolutely delicious, the only thing I was not a fan of was the lamb BUT everyone else at the table enjoyed it. Besides the lamb, we ordered flatbread, yellowtail sashimi, melon salad, miso glazed eggplant, scallops, confit duck leg, and the grilled sea bream. I would say the sashimi and grilled sea bream was my absolute favorite but everything (except the lamb for me lol) was delicious and full of flavor. I would 100% recommend Alta Adams ... whether it's dining with friends, date night or just a solo dinner at the bar. Alta Adams Anniversary Dinner Had an amazing dinner at Alta Adams with my husband to celebrate our anniversary! I was first introduced to Alta Adams when I attended a Hampton University Athletics fundraiser there. I got to sample a few small bites and appetizers, and everything was so delicious that I knew I had to come back--and this time, with my husband! We came on a Sunday evening and were seated right away. Our waitress was wonderful, asked about allergies, and got us started with drinks. My husband ordered an Old Fashioned topped with an edible cricket --which he said tasted a lot like a sunflower seed! Chef Keith Corbin is an incredibly gracious host with a keen eye for presentation and an amazing palate. Every single dish was seasoned and cooked to perfection. We had the sweet potato, cabbage, steak, and lamb, and everything was truly 10/10. I rarely give a 10/10, but this experience absolutely deserved it. What stood out just as much as the food was the hospitality. Chef Corbin stopped by our table several times throughout the evening to check on us and see how we were enjoying our food and drinks. He even personally wiped down our table between courses! I also noticed him making his way around the restaurant, checking in on and engaging with all of the guests. That level of care and attention made the entire experience feel so personal and special. From the moment we walked through the door, everything was top tier. This was sitting in my drafts, so some pics are from their old brunch menu. July 2026 - I just tried their revamped menu and loved it! First, the service is community style. While we have a main server, it felt lile the entire staff was available and supportive. The inside decor doesn't look different, but the tableware did change. We ordered the Sashimi, Melon Salad, Sweet Potato and Chicken. I will say the menu seems a bit beyond my taste, but everything was superb! The mix of flavors and seasonings was a pleasant surprise and wasn't heavy at all. It is on the pricier side but felt like an experience, not just a meal. You can reserve ahead on OpenTable with $ deposit (48hr). There's a lot of free street parking and easy access + restrooms. This place recently reopened and has a focus on north and south African cuisines with a south American influence. Food + drinks: great! They have plenty vegetarian and potentially vegan options. The spices and seasonings on different dishes will definitely catch your interest. We tried the oven sweet potato, the black lentils, and the scallops. Everything was good. Only note/feedback - dark chocolate cake is very dry even with the icecream. Tastes good but could do with more moisture. I visited Alta yesterday. They just reopened with a new menu & newly decorated space. The space is gorgeous. The service feels more elevated than my last visit, too. It was good service before, but a bit more upscale this time. The menu, I believe, is completely redone. I didn't see any dishes that looked familiar. I do think if you loved Alta before you'll be a bit disappointed in this new menu. I was, even though I enjoyed what I tried. I actually came for happy hour at the wine shop and it was closed, so we decided to give the new menu at the restaurant a try. The cocktail menu is strong! We enjoyed everything we tried, especially the "sweet corn" which is their version of a whiskey sour. The food is good. I think I just wanted more items that reminded me of "soul food"? I see the connection though. The succotash with corn pudding. I love both of these and their version is fresh & flavorful. The scallops make it a unique dish. The sweet potato is simple but very good. Both amazing dishes. I see how it's California soul food... But why couldn't the black eyed pea fritters stay on? Or an updated version of the deviled eggs? I just wanted more of those items. I almost think they should rebrand with a new name as well because it's Alta 2.0 and some folks might still expect Alta. All in all, it was a good experience. They're not set up for happy hour so I would only come back for dinner. At the current menu prices, I want to enjoy a full meal, maybe a date night. So noted for myself for future visits. Why this place has a rating of anything less than 4.5 is astonishing to me. We had a reservation for 5 at 11am and honestly when we walked in, it looked empty but turns out most of sitting is away from the bar area and on the other side of the restaurant. We had a warm welcome and our server answered any and all questions we had. The vibe is quintessential to the food they are serving. The playlist is as authentic as it gets and don't be surprised if you see people jamming out to the music as they enjoy the food. We started off with the fried chicken and buttermilk biscuits as a starter for the table. The fried chicken is juicy, very flavorful, and the crispy exterior without a heavy batter is truly top tier. Everyone at the table agreed on how delicious and outstanding the chicken was. The buttermilk biscuits were just as standout. Tender on the inside but a nice crust on the outside. The butter with the sprinkle of Maldon salt was chef kiss. And don't let me sleep on the red pepper hot sauce served with the fried chicken. It was the perfect amount of heat but packed big on flavor. Insane pairing with the fried chicken. The rest of food didn't disappoint either. Everyone's food was delicious. We tried everything. The oxtail and grits. Oh my jeans. Expand them suckers for these. Those grits were creamy and buttery but with a nice texture of grits. The oxtail was tender, smoky and delicious. The shrimp and grits just as delicious. The shrimp was cooked to perfection. Juicy with a hint of smokiness. The sauce was perfect bed for the grits. Fried catfish was crisp on the outside but moist and tender on the inside. Collard greens were traditionally served with a hint of smoked flavor and vinegar. Yall don't sleep on this place. I tried this place last night for the first time and the ambiance was amazing and the food was good, but our server really took away from the experience. My friend and I sat for about 15-20 minutes before being acknowledged. Another employee ended up bringing us water, and we had to flag someone down just to get a wine menu. When our server finally came over, she didn't greet us, introduce herself, or apologize for the wait. She simply asked if we had a question about the wine. As we were ordering, I asked her to describe one of the entrées because I'm a visual person and like to know what I'm getting. Instead of explaining the dish, she gave very short, rushed answers and seemed annoyed by basic questions. The entire interaction felt cold and dismissive. What really threw me off was after we placed our order. She questioned whether we were ordering enough food and asked multiple times if that was all we were getting. It felt awkward and unnecessary, especially since we were ordering exactly what we wanted. The food was good and the atmosphere was great, but the service lacked warmth, attentiveness, and professionalism. Hopefully this was just an off night. Not sure if I'll return though. read more

As a local, I was really excited to try Alta Adam and support the neighborhood. The aesthetics and ambiance are absolutely beautiful, and I was hoping to discover a new African-inspired restaurant that I could recommend to friends. I ordered the Limoncello cocktail, which I enjoyed, although I originally wanted the watermelon drink and was told they didn't have the juice prepared for it. For food, I had the BBQ Chicken Suya. The flavor was great and I loved the crispiness of the chicken. However, I was disappointed that the only accompaniment was a charred avocado. There were no side options such as rice, potatoes, or anything else to complement the citrus flavors of the dish. When I asked for hot sauce, I was given what seemed like a mashed broccoli paste with only a slight hint of spice. Unfortunately, a few hours later I experienced significant stomach discomfort and spent the rest of the evening sick. I'm grateful I decided to go home instead of meeting up with friends afterward. At $38 for chicken with no substantial sides, plus $15 valet, the value just wasn't there for me. I really wanted to love this place because the atmosphere is stunning, but the food experience ultimately overshadowed everything else. Service could also use some improvement. The gentleman behind the bar barely acknowledged me and collected guests' cards before the actual server arrived. A warmer, more upbeat approach from the staff would make the experience feel much more welcoming. I'm going to assume the reason for the 3.5 stars is the lack of parking because everything else was wonderful! The ambiance is beautiful and I liked that there was lots of natural lighting. The service was great - even though I was a part of a big party (10) and it was quite busy, we were never forgotten and they always checked on us. As for the food and drinks - I really liked the dirty matcha, you can really taste the espresso and earthiness of the matcha. For food, the chicken and waffles were just perfect! We had a great experience at Alta Adams. The services was stellar the drinks were very tasty and the food was delicious. We started with a cocktails at the bar. I really enjoyed the sweet corn cocktail and my husband got the Strawberry Rhubarb. The menu had significantly changed so we went in with expectations to have all of the most highly reviewed dishes of the past but was pleasantly surprised to still see a few of those highly regarded dishes while getting to try some new options. My favorites were the succotash with scallops and the sweet potato. My husband was a big fan of the black lentils and the West African osso bucco. We were a group of four and we ordered a bunch of dishes to share. Some of the servings were smaller but we still left full and happy. Parking - Street parking is hard but they have valet which was $15 (Friday night) and I tend to run a little hot and found that being in the restaurant filled with other diners was a little warm so if you get hot easily dress accordingly. read more

I discovered Alta by chance, the space immediately caught my eye and after seeing the menu, I knew I had to go! My family and I went last Saturday, our first time going, and couldn't have had a better experience! The staff were all incredibly friendly, but the most unexpected and awesome surprise of our visit was that we were served by Chef Keith, the chef and owner himself! We loved hearing about his culinary journey and what inspired each of his dishes. And the food itself was unbelievably good! Each new dish somehow outdid the last! My two favorites were the cabbage and the half chicken, not counting the dangerously delicious banana split! The space itself is bright and has a warm vibe all around. Where do I begin? The quality of the food exceeded my expectations. Every ingredient and favor was meticulously prepared. Chief Keith's culinary creations were exquisite. We indulged in a delectable steak, succulent lamb, a delectable sweet potato, and a refreshing banana split for dessert. The experience was truly satisfying. I've been a huge fan of Chef Keith since the very early days of Alta. I wanted to support him in this remodeling (I love the new look) and menu change. Although, I am so attached to the old menu. I was quite pleased. Chef Keith has a knack for creating food items that are...different. And they just simply taste delicious. I found that to be true with his new menu. I love that foods are designed to be shared so you get to try a lot of different items for a relatively reasonable price. My only complaint server forgot to order our steak we waited almost 30min for it after we received all the other dishes instead of just apologizing and being honest she tried to act like she was waiting for us to tell her we ready for our steak. So off putting and bizarre when their kitchen model was explained in the beginning. After waiting so long for it the steak they tried to rush it and it came Med rare when we request well done. My first time at Alta. I always check out the menu beforehand and was disappointed since whatever source I was checking had the old menu. I was really fixed for some collard greens but they were not on the new menu. Like others have mentioned, portion size was surprising. I can see the correlation between some dishes and those prices and portions but black eyed peas are not expensive or hard to source. Either make that portion larger or lower the price point. We had the lamb and it was AMAZING and I didn't blink twice about the cost or potion size. The yam was DIVINE and my friend and I ate the entire thing. Literally sent a clean plate back. lol. Advanced notice you get one yam per order. We also had drinks. I cannot recall hers but I'm sober so I had the Butterfly Pea Tea drink and it was SUBLIME. Everyone was so kind and attentive. I live about 5 min from Alta. I tried their food on several occasions. They profess to be Southern Cuisine. LOL. Fried Chicken was over cooked on the outside and raw on the inside. Meaning to high a cooking temp. Collards-another joke. Some folded over collard leaf. lol! I lived in Ga. for 22years and learned how to cook collards from an amazing lady..black by the way-ham hock water vinegar salt and about 3 lbs of collards in a huge vat for 4 hours on medium heat. Deviled eggs dryer than the desert! Then we learned white folk were not welcome or at least treated like second class citizens. They closed for months.. now open but no one comes anymore. Think again about an all inclusive attitude. We were not welcomed. You alienate half of your possible clientele and you fail.. which you are now experiencing. Food came out extra hot so much so i needed to take the yams out of their container for them to edible comfortably lol. Something as basic as rice & beans was even great too. The spot doesn't give soul food but the food matches the spot and makes sense as soon as you taste the food. It's a soul food that feels light and healthy which is rare lol. I was super excited about hearing about this place but I always enjoy trying out new black owned restaurants that serve southern cuisine in Los Angeles. As everyone knows already, parking over here can be difficult which is a drag and it can take a minute to find parking without spending the money for valet. After looking at the menu, there seemed to be a decent amount of options and of course I'm aware this is a more upscale restaurant but the prices seemed very pricey for the food and amount provided. The brisket was decent and I tried the corn mill pancakes which I wanted to love but it really didn't do it for me along with the "syrup" they gave which really wasn't syrup. It also looked almost identical to the bbq sauce so that can be an easy mistake lol. I do want to give this another try but I'm not as enthused. read more

Our party consisted of vegan, vegetarian, and meat eaters. Everyone was pleased with their options. We ordered: salad, black eye pea fritters, cornbread and deviled eggs to start. Entree's ordered: Catfish and grits, Shrimp & grits, Brisket, Oxalis & grits, Chicken & Waffles, Mac and Cheese, Collards, and that's all I can remember. This was my first visit to this beautiful restaurant. It appears to be in a building that has architectural details from the past. There is a front dining room and bar, a second dining room, a chef's counter facing the open kitchen, and a shaded outdoor patio. There's a wine bar next door that is connected, and I saw people ordering food there. I ordered dishes that I had read about and/or was interested in trying. The deviled eggs were tasty and pretty traditional, with a kick of mustard. The oxtails and grits were fabulous, fall-off-the-bone tender. I slurped off every piece of meat from those bones. And the grits were ever so creamy. I also ordered 3 pieces of their famous fried chicken. The order came with a drumstick, wing and thigh. The fry was dark not from overcooking but from the rub/seasoning/batter, which had a bit of a kick (cayenne?). The batter was light and crispy. The accompanying fresno hot sauce was fine, fortunately for me not too spicy, a bit too vinegary for me. I prefer sweet. The honey-caramelized carrots with peanuts and mint were multi-coloured and fine; I thought the honey would be more pronounced (ie, sweet). Service was excellent at first. But within an hour the restaurant filled-up fast. There was only one server, plus a host who was serving as well as seating, and 2 bartenders. I would have ordered dessert ( I had the coconut cake in mind), but because they were so stretched, I passed. I'd love to try Alta for their well-regarded brunch. read more

I have been wanting to try this restaurant for months and months and months maybe years... So one day when we were planning dinner I just said we're gonna go to Ulta right now. It was a Sunday and we live in walking distance so we walked and they were actually like closing up. It was like six and I'm like what and she's like. Yeah we just do a brunch. She's like I mean we do have a dinner. It's a prefixed menu and we're showing a movie. It's like dinner in a movie and I said well what's the movie she said boomerang I said oh my God yeah that sounds fun. How much is it so we got the price and we decided to go watch the movie and have some food let me tell you we had such a good time we forgot how funny that movie was. We forgot how nice it is to sit and just like be with other people laughing and talking. It was just a wonderful experience and I was so grateful that they were able to accommodate us and one of my needs, I really really wanted the okra stew and she was able to switch one of my mains from the prefix menu! And I hate that I did not get names... There was a little problem with some bills at the end of the day the manager took everything into her hands and made everything more than right. I came here for brunch to celebrate galentines with my gf's and I really enjoyed myself and ambiance!! The food was pretty good and fair prices! The drink I ordered was the Lemoncello drink that is similar to a lemon drop. I also tried some wine that was very good called Mary Grenache. Also, a con was that they do not take the shell off of the shrimp so be prepared to take off. No big deal but just FYI. However, good service!! Came here for lunch with a group of 7! You can make reservations ahead of time but please note a reservation of 10 or more requires a deposit. The staff were extremely friendly and accommodating. They were helpful with dish recommendations and frequently checked in on us. We all shared the cornbread and it was amazing! I love the butter that it comes with. I would say it's shareable between 4-5 people. I was really torn between the brisket and the chicken and waffles but ultimately went with chicken and waffles and it did not disappoint. I LOVED that the waffles were light and fluffy on the inside so it didn't feel too heavy. The chicken was perfectly crispy on the outside and juicy and tender on the inside. I really enjoyed their house made hot sauce as well. My friend got the brisket and I tried a piece of it and it was bomb! Great food all around and a place worth checking out especially to support a Black-owned business! read more

My wife and I made a return trip to Alta Adams for the first time since the chef introduced his new menu. I was a bit trepidatious, as I was a huge fan of AA's previous elevated southern/soulful cuisine. The good news is that our meals this time were better than ever. Our great server, Vanessa, recommended two of the shareable menu items, the charred sweet potato and the cabbage. Both were fantastic. We also really enjoyed the scallop shareable and the duck in mole main course. The bold flavors made every dish memorable in its own way. And the vibe from the whole staff was as warm and attentive as ever. I can't wait to go back to try more dishes from the new menu! read more

EXCELLENT restaurant. Every dish we had was fantastic - particular props to the Osso Buco, Wood Grilled Chicken, and Couloutte Steak (and I usually hate getting steak at restaurants, usually feels like a waste of money. Not this one). ALSO: the seasonal cocktails were delightful. Despite being a West Adams local, I'd somehow never made my way to this spot before it renovated, one of my biggest regrets. While I understand the menu is completely different now, it's clear they've redesigned the experience in a very intentional and thoughtful way. And by the way, the space is beautiful and the staff incredibly friendly. As we left our waiter mentioned they're opening for brunch next month, and they plan to bring back some of their classic dishes from before they closed. I will be there FOR SURE!! read more
