We went here after the chef closed it for a few months to revamp the space and boy was I impressed! The new concept was described as African cuisine meets California style and I think it hit the nail on the head. From the sashimi to the little gems salad to the suya chicken, it was the perfect blend of California cuisine with African & global influence. Everything tasted like it was made with love but in the most elevated way. The staff was so friendly and helpful, the cocktails were to die for! We will be back!

For brunch some girlfriends and I went here and it was fabulous!!!! Customer service was spot on, food was spot on. Ambiance was great! My friends had the shrimp and grits and catfish and grits and they both liked them too. Will definitely be back.

I was super excited about hearing about this place but I always enjoy trying out new black owned restaurants that serve southern cuisine in Los Angeles. As everyone knows already, parking over here can be difficult which is a drag and it can take a minute to find parking without spending the money for valet. After looking at the menu, there seemed to be a decent amount of options and of course I'm aware this is a more upscale restaurant but the prices seemed very pricey for the food and amount provided. The brisket was decent and I tried the corn mill pancakes which I wanted to love but it really didn't do it for me along with the "syrup" they gave which really wasn't syrup. It also looked almost identical to the bbq sauce so that can be an easy mistake lol. I do want to give this another try but I'm not as enthused.

Great soul food spot in West Adams which is one of my favorite areas in LA! Simple and great layout with a smooth vibe. The spot doesn't give soul food but the food matches the spot and makes sense as soon as you taste the food. It's a soul food that feels light and healthy which is rare lol. I had the Blackened Salmon, Fried/Smashed Potatoes, Mac & Cheese, Collard Greens and Candied Yams & Pecans. Everything was good, with a light taste/flavor, not to be confused with lacking taste/flavor but light lol. Staff was amazing as well.

I don't know how this doesn't have 5 ! We sat at the chef's counter and I'm so glad we did! The staff was incredibly warm and generous on our anniversary. They made it very special. I was blown away at how much flavor and intention went into the dishes, it was not overseasoned which I think can sometimes happen with soul food. They utilize smoke in various ways, everything is perfect. I can't say enough good things about them.

Came here 7pm Saturday night it wasn't very busy but would pick up over time. I made a reservation and got sat immediately. There's $10 valet that you can Venmo if you don't want to look for street parking We had a new waitress whenever she was slippin this black male waiter was amazing to back her up Cornbread delicious with and without butter. Maybe even better without honestly. The deviled eggs had too much mustard for me but my date liked it. Food came out extra hot so much so i needed to take the yams out of their container for them to edible comfortably lol. Something as basic as rice & beans was even great too. They even found a way for basic fried potatoes under my black salmon (which was amazing) to stand out. Apetizers not coming out before the entree was a little different and the more packed it got the more it seemed there should've been another waiter for the whole section. The partnership with the "inkind" app gets 20% back instantly. I'll be back asap

I have been wanting to try this restaurant for months and months and months maybe years... So one day when we were planning dinner I just said we're gonna go to Ulta right now. It was a Sunday and we live in walking distance so we walked and they were actually like closing up. It was like six and I'm like what and she's like. Yeah we just do a brunch. She's like I mean we do have a dinner. It's a prefixed menu and we're showing a movie. It's like dinner in a movie and I said well what's the movie she said boomerang I said oh my God yeah that sounds fun. How much is it so we got the price and we decided to go watch the movie and have some food let me tell you we had such a good time we forgot how funny that movie was. We forgot how nice it is to sit and just like be with other people laughing and talking. It was just a wonderful experience and I was so grateful that they were able to accommodate us and one of my needs, I really really wanted the okra stew and she was able to switch one of my mains from the prefix menu! And I hate that I did not get names... There was a little problem with some bills at the end of the day the manager took everything into her hands and made everything more than right. I cannot wait to go back and if you have not been, you must go every single thing that we ate was delicious. Every drink we had was scrumptious 5 1/2 stars. I would give it if I could.

I was excited to dine at a black owned eatery and I was very impressed. The food was good and served at a good temperature. Everyone loved their meal. Drinks seemed a bit pricey. The service was equally as good and they were very accommodating to our table of 6. All of the staff were very friendly. Very nice ambiance with indoor and outdoor patio seating. We chose to sit inside and the only issue was the music. The noise level was unbearable. The music is so loud that you can't hear the people at your own table. Had the volume of the music not been an issue, this would have been an exceptional experience. I will try again another time.

Went back for Brunch on a Saturday afternoon. Made a reservation, just in case but it wasn't very packed; although, their outdoor patio area was not available. (I'm not talking about the one on the side street.) I had eggs, chicken sausage and cornmeal pancakes. Everything was delicious and it was enough for me to take home seconds. My friend enjoyed her catfish and grits. We both had matchas...one hot and one cold. The hot comes in a small teacup; the amount seemed small. All in all we enjoyed it. Street parking was not as plentiful but I was able to find something across the street.

Dined here on a Saturday for brunch with a party of 9. The staff were amazing. There are multiple seating options such as indoor/outdoor or the long table in the tasting room next door. Our party consisted of vegan, vegetarian, and meat eaters. Everyone was pleased with their options. We ordered: salad, black eye pea fritters, cornbread and deviled eggs to start. Entree's ordered: Catfish and grits, Shrimp & grits, Brisket, Oxalis & grits, Chicken & Waffles, Mac and Cheese, Collards, and that's all I can remember. Plenty of food options to try different items. The food was a 4.5/5 I would return when I visit LA. Also, don't sleep on the coconut cake. It was homemade and moist. The team went above and beyond to make sure we had what we needed. The service was very professional and accommodating for our large group and our server offered great suggestions for meal options.

This was my first visit to this beautiful restaurant. It appears to be in a building that has architectural details from the past. There is a front dining room and bar, a second dining room, a chef's counter facing the open kitchen, and a shaded outdoor patio. There's a wine bar next door that is connected, and I saw people ordering food there. I ordered dishes that I had read about and/or was interested in trying. The deviled eggs were tasty and pretty traditional, with a kick of mustard. The oxtails and grits were fabulous, fall-off-the-bone tender. I slurped off every piece of meat from those bones. And the grits were ever so creamy. I also ordered 3 pieces of their famous fried chicken. The order came with a drumstick, wing and thigh. The fry was dark not from overcooking but from the rub/seasoning/batter, which had a bit of a kick (cayenne?). The batter was light and crispy. The accompanying fresno hot sauce was fine, fortunately for me not too spicy, a bit too vinegary for me. I prefer sweet. The honey-caramelized carrots with peanuts and mint were multi-coloured and fine; I thought the honey would be more pronounced (ie, sweet). Service was excellent at first. But within an hour the restaurant filled-up fast. There was only one server, plus a host who was serving as well as seating, and 2 bartenders. I would have ordered dessert ( I had the coconut cake in mind), but because they were so stretched, I passed. I'd love to try Alta for their well-regarded brunch.

I came here for brunch to celebrate galentines with my gf's and I really enjoyed myself and ambiance!! The food was pretty good and fair prices! The drink I ordered was the Lemoncello drink that is similar to a lemon drop. I also tried some wine that was very good called Mary Grenache. I ordered the shrimp and grits for my entree and it was very good the grits were a lil cold but it was no problem they fixed it super fast! Also, a con was that they do not take the shell off of the shrimp so be prepared to take off. No big deal but just FYI. However, good service!! Which let me begin to talk about the exceptional service! They are super friendly and don't rush you out at all! We were there for a very long time and they did not bother us when shift and menu changed to dinner. Plus, the owner is very humble, hardworking , good personality, and welcoming! This place is definitely a vibe! I'm so happy that I got a chance to try here during black history month! Also, right next door is the wine bar that is quite phenomenal with happy hour. The wine selection is amazing, which is mostly women black owned. It's also very cute inside with AMAZING R&B songs that are played!!! Very modern and good for any type of celebrations! They also have events here that I will come to attend! Valet parking is $10.00 and they also have street parking! I will definitely come back here! For dinner and to go next door to the wine bar!! I highly recommend!

I emailed the bar to make a reservation since the online system was down, and they emailed back immediately to confirm -- and even said they would surprise my mom with an extra birthday cake! Now all I had to do was wait 3 weeks until her visit so the experience could finally happen. The day arrived and I got my mom to Maybourne Bar with her none the wiser. From the moment we stepped through the door, the experience was a 1 million out of 10. Every course is unbelievable. This is a caviar tasting in the best way -- all nine courses are topped with generous helpings of delicious N25 caviar. You get sweet, salty, savory, comfort food, upscale dining, everything comes together in the absolute best way. I especially loved the deconstructed deviled egg and the lobster roll, and the ice cream was some of the best I've ever had. The chips and dip came with the cutest miniature potato chips (although I'll admit I could have used a few more), and the caviar salmon burger was super flavorful. And, true to their word, they surprised my mom with a birthday cake -- and then surprised us both with complimentary lychee cocktails! The service was impeccable as well. Each person on the waitstaff was kind, helpful, and accommodating. We loved how descriptive they were of each dish. It was also really nice of them to decide to give us an extra 2-top so we would have room for all of the courses. This is not only an incredible tasting menu, but made even more incredible by the price. 10 courses and a glass of champagne are $85. I was honestly shocked at how much we received for under $100. On multiple occasions, Elton has given me poor service and a noticeable attitude. I chose to overlook it at first, but eventually I brought it to management's attention because the treatment was consistent and unacceptable. After that complaint, the situation escalated. When I returned, Elton refused to serve me altogether. He would not look at me, acknowledge me, or take my order. I was left sitting there while being completely ignored. It became so obvious that other guests sitting next to me noticed and were concerned enough to step in and ask him why I wasn't being helped and to tell him to serve me. That should never have to happen. I then asked for the manager I had previously spoken to, Leo, because I wanted to understand what was going on. I still have not received any clear explanation. What's most concerning is that this behavior feels intentional. No employee in hospitality gets to decide who they will or will not serve based on personal feelings. If a staff member's feelings are "hurt" after a complaint, that does not justify refusing service to a guest. That is not professionalism--that is the opposite of hospitality. It was honestly disturbing enough that the people next to me told me directly that it didn't feel right and that I shouldn't come back because it seemed like I wasn't wanted there. That is not okay, especially at an establishment of this caliber. I am actively trying to get in touch with someone at the hotel who can properly address this situation, because this needs to be taken seriously. No guest should ever feel ignored, singled out, or unwelcome in this way.
