Interior is cramped and informal but the crowd is always lovely

Super juicy roast duck bahn mi (ha! VEGAN roast duck bahn mi). Everything here is delicious. The space is so dodgy to get to because of the homeless people outside but the compassion and kindness of the owner is so needed in this world. I came in for a buffet smorgarsbord of all the vegan delicacies. Absolutely delicious and I am coming back with multiple tupperware to take home for the rest of the week. Can't even describe the range of dishes which were each really delicious. The space is super cramped and always full of groups of people who seem tolerant and kind.

Please do not be discouraged by the people on the street and visit this awesome restaurant! There is minimal parking at the front, so be wary of that. I came at a good time and the rest of the patrons came by foot. Tip for your first visit: you enter from the right door. There's a kiosk to your left which you order from. You can order at the front, but be mindful of the staff's workload. The food is very flavorful and well-cooked. The iced coffee is great (the straw did break from the pressure of the straw hole, so that was a tiny issue, but not too big of a deal). The banh mi baguette is toasted expertly. It's crunchy, it's soft, it's a joy to eat. The proportions of the sandwich are great. You get a little bit of everything. The dining area is intimate, so plan to sit to the sides if you want to avoid any bustle. If you want to support a restaurant with great food and an even greater mission, look no further. The restaurant owner Tanya, supports and feeds the community regularly. She, and the business deserve our support.

Nice hidden vegan gem in the CD. I had the buffet which had a lot of different foods. The people are extremely welcoming and the food tasty in a no-frills neighborhood setting. Overall a good experience.

Wow I cannot believe this place is vegan and vegetarian. I got the BBQ pork banh mi and the meat tasted just like meat. The flavor is on the lighter side because it is not that fatty compared to actual pork meat. Their egg rolls are also amazing, I didn't mind that it did not have meat because the vegetables mixed well together. The owner is so sweet and kind, please support her business!

Show your support for little Saigon! The area was hit hard by vagrants but it's still a place to support. Here we have 100% vegan food options! From a all you can eat deli buffet to à la cart Banh Mí sandwiches We opted for vermicelli, it was good, not the freshest lettuce. The best was the bành mí. Especially the pork (vegan) and another good option is the spicy lemongrass. All vegan and all yummy! Very casual, not fancy. Think deli market. Indoor dining available or to-go!

I love trying new Vietnamese spots and Chu Minh has been on my radar for a while. The restaurant is what I would expect for a small local Vietnamese place, with straightforward service and a no frills environment. We had never been there before and we just went up to the counter, paid for the buffet option, and went to grab food in the other room. The buffet also comes with a can of soda/bottle of water. Everything we tried from the buffet was pretty good! I am trying to eat less meat and love having a good vegetarian/vegan option. They have lots of tofu dishes, various mock meats made from seitan, egg rolls, and some veggie side dishes. I will say everything was a bit salty and needed rice to go with it. I got full off of maybe one pound of food, so in the future I'd just go with paying by the pound. I would recommend if you are looking for a good meatless option in the area!

    By the pound.

Such a hidden gem. I got the buffet by the pound to try the various things and a spicy tofu banh mi. The various buffet items were all pretty good. Little bit on saltier side but so delicious. Similarly for banh mi. I also got a bunch of things to go for lunch next day. Definitely recommend. I'll be going back :)

It's interesting to see vegan Vietnamese restaurant, so we decided to try it. It's also difficult to find a restaurant that serves both pho for my interest and bahn mi for my husband's interest. There is a kiosk to order from. I believe the buffet (by weight) is ordered differently. It's not completely self-served. Please remember to tip as they do serve you water, bring you food, and clean up afterwards. My husband liked his vegan BBQ duck sandwich. I liked my soy milk soup noodles too, but it's a huge portion and a little different than expected. I barely tasted any soy milk, the broth also seems thinner than Japanese soy milk noodle broth. It's so interesting! I don't regret trying this place, but taking bus here was not the best experience I had during my time in Seattle...

I came here for the ayce for $24.95 and it was a great deal! All the tofu is made in house and the options they have at the buffet are delicious! I also really enjoyed the banana taro dessert soup, it was warm and not too sweet! They have a pot of rice but it tasted a little hard and old to me. The staff were friendly and helpful. The seating area could be cleaner but it still good for the price.

Got delivery so can't speak to service or ambiance beyond the really strong packaging. The food was fantastic and I will absolutely be ordering from them many times again in the future! Very good bahn mis.

My first of three plates from AYCE vegan buffet
    Ken M.

This one-of-a-kind vegan restaurant has been in business for 11 years. With the $25 AYCE buffet, I was stuffed after finishing three full plates. I enjoyed the variety. Service was friendly and personable. Atmosphere is casual. There was a steady flow of patrons. The restaurant is in an enclave surrounded by homeless people.

The staff here is so kind and friendly! And the entire space smells SO amazing. Food tasted authentic and home-cooked. I got their Mongolian "beef" bahn mi, and it was so good that I completely forgot to take a picture until it was all gone, and I wanted more. Highly recommend for authentic delicious vegan Vietnamese food! I went with some non-vegan friends and they were very satisfied as well.

came from out of town to try this--overall loved eating here. i wanna just shoot down the comments saying it's in a gnarly spot or whatever bec surprise, you're in a metropolitan city! this place gives out FREE food and is an essential resource to its surrounding community. the food was great, very quick service. i got meatball banh mi, very lovely seasoned veg meatballs and a spicy sauce. the banh xeo was a bit on the greasy side, and was lacking the typical crisp. for the price point, it's a great choice for plant based viet!

Ask the Community - Chu Minh Tofu and Vegan Deli

If they do only do takeout, any recommendations for spots to go nearby and sit and enjoy the food (in walking distance)?

Nearest spot is probably Yesler Terrace Hillclimb (steps/benches) and adjacent Park up top 5 mins northwest. 2nd spot is probably Sturgis/Daejoon Parks (grassy patches) just south across the bridge or Hing Hay Park west down in Chinatown (this…

Is this restaurant now open for dine in? And are they doing a buffet?

The buffet and dine in are both open as of January 2022.

Hello! What options are gluten free? Which sauces as well?

Great question, if no reply here this week, definitely try calling the deli early after opening or late evening before closing. If the answerer doesn't know, ask for Tanya or Vivian. They're often busy but would be glad to help you.

Do they have a private parking lot? If no, how is street parking?

There is a parking lot, but it's a bit small. I was only visiting and can't remember if there was street parking or not, but there were a few open in the lot when I went.

The food was alright for what it is as they were generous with portions. I did appreciate the little spicy flakes on my udon, though wish that they would leave it on the table as I would have enjoyed my udon more as it offered a nice spicy kick. The poke bowl was beautifully arranged and had lots of different ingredients. The Shirley Temple was also well made, but no refills. The Seattle roll was rolled up nice with a good ratio of salmon and avocado. The food isn't memorable but it isn't bad for something quick and filling.
