Paprepas makes me wonder...why do I eat sandwiches when I could just eat arepas and empanadas? Sandwiches seem so dull compared to this! Wandering the neighborhood freely (the Light Rail 2 Line making Seattle so much more accessible!) I saw this cute little restaurant and decided to try Venezuelan food for the first time. Ordering was easy as there is a little kiosk to input the order. The pictures and descriptions made the decision easy. We waited a few minutes and out came this whole tray of food. The chicken arepa was great! At first I was a bit concerned because I saw all that cheese and wondered if that would smother the taste, but found the whole experience was super balanced. The chicken was marinated in this bright sauce that balanced the creaminess of the cheese. With the spicy sauce packet it added a punch that was perfect! Soooo good! Unique yet familiar tasty meal. The arepas with pork is so tender, juicy and flavorful. The corn meal vessel is perfect for holding the tender meat and melted cheese. Visited the food truck at the Fremont Sunday market. The meat filling was good but nothing special. The spicy cilantro sauce and curry sauce mixed made the dish have more depth of flavor. We love trying out food trucks. We tried out this truck on Monday after the game. This turned out to be the WORST one we have EVER been to. We had the Toston bowl and when we got it, it didn't look ANYTHING like the picture. They say you eat first with your eyes and this looked like somebody had thrown up. The meat was slimy and not something you could cut or bite. It kind of went down like swallowing an oyster. It was just a pile of YUCK on a hard plantain disc. Sadly, our experience with their empanadas was one of heavy greasy fried corn-dough, with a fillings that were both small and not that interesting. Most of the flavor was of the fried dough - and of the cilantro sauce packets. We got a beef, a chicken & cheese, and a chicken empanadas. The cilantro sauces were packaged but pretty good -- but they couldn't overcome the heavy grease dough which drowned everything else out -- talk about a gut-bomb! And then there are the bizarre parts of things -- the ordering is via video screen, with no human interaction. The guy who came to the counter was friendly, but basically just pointed us to the ordering screen. We would have asked for his recommendation, but clearly he just wanted us to read about the food and order using the automated process. The restaurant was clean, but rather sterile in decor (sort if a grey laminated fake-wood kind of vibe). All-in-all, I found it both impersonal and unappealing. But the real problem was the food -- twenty minutes later, you could feel this heavy mass in your stomach, and wish you hadn't eaten it. read more

The sauces they offered were Cilantro, Spicy cilantro, and curry. The sauces were amazing as well. The sauce packets do need to be refrigerated or I would've taken some home! The beef was tender, flavorful, and there was a good amount inside the arepa. The cheese inside the empanadas was nice and melted. The dough for the empanadas was a nice texture as well! Updated review 1/20/2025: went to get some food as it had been a while for me and left extremely disappointed :( ordered my go to which was the beef empanada but found it to be too doughy. I thought I was eating mashed potatoes with beef with how bad the texture was. The empanada also came out DRIPPING with oil. We tried a new menu item which was a chicken sandwich and chicken empanada. Chicken was VERY bland and the only thing giving the sandwich flavor was the Chipotle mayo. As for the arepa itself, it was good but the dough was thicker than usual making it hard to eat. For the amount we paid ($80) it definitely wasn't worth it. We left a lot of food because of how bad it was. Don't think I'll be coming here again unfortunately :( read more

I've been a fan of Paparepas for years, and always have recommended their arepas. Last night I went in for dinner with a friend we ordered chicken and beef empanadas, chicken sandwich, side of plantains, chicken arepa and the pabellon arepa. It totaled around 80 dollars. The chicken arepa is usually my favorite. The filling was as good as always but the arepa dough was so thick it took away from the flavor of the arepa, it wasn't the worst but I tasted too much of the dough. I also had one of the chicken and one of the beef empanada and the amount of grease on it was overwhelming, I cut in to it and the dough looked so thick. When I took a bite all I tasted was the grease and the chicken was lacking so much flavor. It was bland and dry.The chicken sandwich was okay but I wouldn't order it again, nor would I recommend it. For 80 dollars we only ate our arepas and left the rest behind. If I ever decide to come back I think I'd only stick to the arepas. read more

They were different than any kind I've ever had! Think a fried crispy, slightly sweet corn dough stuffed with filling. SO good - just a bit greasy. Fillings were really tasty. Also got a side of Maduros ($5, sweet plantains). Our friend got an Papabowl (toppings on rice, $12.99) which also looked tasty. Located on a more remote street on Seattle's bustling Capitol Hill, Paparepas Venezuelan Food is an unassuming restaurant serving Venezuelan comfort food such as arepas, empanadas, and other deep-fried fare. My party of six stopped in on a Monday at around noon, and there was no one else in the restaurant. The interior of the space is sparsely decorated but spacious, and well-air-conditioned on a hot summer day! You order through one of two kiosks located near the front counter. Ordering is quick and easy, and most dishes have different options (e.g. meat, cheese, etc.) that you can choose from, as well as modifications you can make. I had wanted something with vegetables in it, so I asked if they could make my Arepabowl with salad as a topping (since it's listed on the menu), but they told me that salad was no longer offered, and that the menu was years old and hadn't been updated in a long time. One of my friends had also wanted to try their Yuca Fries, which were listed on the menu, but they were "already out" - not a great start. I ended up ordering an Arepabowl ($11.49), which comes with sliced pieces of arepa (a traditional Venezuelan cornmeal cakes), and for my two toppings, I chose chicken breast and sweet plantains. The arepas were nice and crispy with a soft interior, but the chicken breast came in a really creamy white sauce that I wasn't a fan of, since it made the dish really heavy. The plantains were tender and sweet, and you could tell that they didn't use too much oil - just a light crisp around the edges. The portion wasn't very big for the price, which I noticed with the other dishes my friends ordered as well. One nice thing is that they have three sauce options: Cilantro, Spicy Cilantro, and Curry. The first two are creamy cilantro vinagrette-style sauces which add a nice punch to the very rich menu, and the Curry sauce tastes like curry powder and mayonnaise mixed together - not my favorite, but some might enjoy it. Other people in my party ordered a variety of dishes, such as their Pork Arepa ($11.49), which is an arepa stuffed with pork and cheddar cheese - she said the pork was tender but the lack of vegetables or anything lending a crunchy texture was a little disappointing. Another friend ordered a Papa Combo with Arepa ($18.49), which looked like it was going to be a better value, with an Arepa, Cheese Tequeños (almost like a mozzarella stick in a pastry), and a beverage, but he didn't think it was worth it. Someone in my party also ordered the Guava Juice ($4.99), saying it was light and refreshing, but overpriced and a bit too sweet. Finally, we tried an Beef Empanada ($5.99), which was a good price, but the outside was bland and the beef wasn't the best. Overall, I think that this would be a great late-night spot for greasy bar-style deep-fried food, but I felt that it was a little overpriced, and the lack of any more health-conscious items knocked this place down a bit for me. Next time, I'd just get the Sweet Plantains and a single Arepa for a better deal, since those were the best foods I tried here.
