I really like to support local restaurants and service was very nice but the food was not there. My order was $37 with a scotch egg and a large fish and chips. The fish and chips had 1 piece of fish with absolutely no flavor and soggy, where is that crunch? And no seasoning on the fries either, and the scotch egg.... over cooked and dry with no seasoning. Whoever the cook is seams like he's not the type that should be doing this. I'd expect food like this for $17

An English pub in a strip mall in Folsom. There seemed to be several fish n chips ordered as that is a typical dish at an English pub. Appeared to be a very regular spot for folks sitting at the bar. A little "Cheers" like atmosphere. Service seemed a bit slow. Had pattie melts which were tasty. A little pricey. No waitresses. Have to order at the bar.Pool table & darts.

Came in for a drink and to catch the end of a playoff game and this place was pretty awesome. I ordered a Margarita and an old fashioned. The bartender was friendly and the service was quick. I would say it's more of a bar than a restaurant. The food coming out looked just ok but during happy hour but the prices are good so I'm neutral here. The atmosphere was definitely Irish/English pub but had a dive bar feel would also say stick to beer, shots, or whisky cocktails, the margarita wasn't great.

Fun atmosphere if you're a Vikings fan! Service staff is small but they sure do a great job getting orders and drinks out quickly!

Traditional English pub with traditional food, friendly bar/counter service (no waitstaff). There are lots of TVs for watching soccer games or other sports. Bartender was friendly and managing the entire place during Championship League final game on a Saturday afternoon. Good selection of beers on tap. Chicken tenders were generous portion of chicken breast breaded with British style chips which are similar to big chunky steak fries.

    Classic Reuben sandwich and fries

Just killed half of my Reuben sandwich and fries. And this sandwich was absolutely delicious. I will add this place to my lunchtime great eats.

It seems to be run like a counter-service fast-food place. First, it was confusing how to get a table. (Seat yourself). Second, it was confusing how to get a menu. (Ask at the bar.) Third, it was confusing how to order. (Order at the bar). So basically, they do not have wait staff here, just bartenders. The food was fine. Basic pub food. I did enjoy the old English style of food and menu items. I had the Shepherd's Pie. It was great. They do have some dart boards setup if you want to play darts.

I've watched many people seat themselves at tables and leave 10 minutes later because no one asked them what they wanted. Yes, the decor is stuck in the 90's, but I actually like it. The double smash burger I had was excellent. The bun they use is awesome and they charred the patty perfectly. It tasted way better than Fleming's Prime Steakhouse burger I had last week, that's for sure. The thick steak-cut fries are awesome, too. Over salted but nothing a cold beer can't cut through. Highly recommend their smash burger.

If it wasn't for this "mission," there's a good chance I wouldn't have wandered in. I LOVE Sutter Street, but honestly I don't live nearby and don't have many reasons to come here. That said, I'm thankful for the mission and glad I dropped by. It's a super cute place and the bartender had a nice relaxed chill vibe to her. This is where I'd normally drop her name and give her kudos - but I didn't get her name. I thought her name would be on the receipt, but it wasn't! I assume her name isn't "Shift Night N" anyway, which would be weird - but that's what is listed for "server". Anyway... the burger... I liked it. I liked it a lot. I was not asked how I wanted it cooked (not expected or demanded by me) - but an observation that I toss in for comparison purposes. It was cooked to a solid medium, which is fine with me. Caramelized onions were standard - nice - but the tomato and lettuce were listed as 'optional' - and the bartender (Shift Night N) asked me if I wanted them. I opted in. The bun was above average - definitely a notch above the typical mass-produced buns often used elsewhere. I opted for sweet potato fries. They had good flavor. Personal preference-wise... I would have liked them to be cooked a smidge more. If/when I come back, I'll probably ask them to be crispy-er. Overall, thumbs up! I wouldn't hesitate to come back and try other things on the menu. #burgers

We decided to try friends. When we walked in, it was completely empty. One table inside had two people seated and one table outside had two people there. We sat on patio, it is quiet and nice to feel like you are in the woods with trees and foliage all around.. Nice and peaceful. The tables looked like the "old" Benihana type of tables with the grill pan in the middle. They looked dirty but it I think they are just dated. Not a problem for us as we tend to like "hole in the wall" type places and that is the vibe this place gives. Our waitress was nice just seemed shy. Music genre was oldies. We ordered a jalapeño burger and the grilled chicken club sandwich. The jalapeño burger was supposed to be 1/2 lb Angus beef. It did have good flavor and cooked right, but it was a very small burger. Hubby felt that it couldn't be 1/2lb. For the price it was just too small. $18. The grilled chicken avacado club sandwich had one slice of bacon on it, not a deal breaker but the chicken wasn't grilled. Not sure how it was cooked, but not on a grill. It had a lot of seasoning on it and yet the sandwich was underwhelming. The produce seemed like it was yesterday's produce. The fries were also just ok. Didn't seem like there was any salt. They did sprinkle some chopped cilantro on top which looked nice. Overall we did enjoy the patio and peacefulness of our lunch there, and we do hope to see some improvements in quality and maybe better portion sizes for the cost. We will give it a shot another time, maybe dinner time when they are a little busier.

This visit took place on a Thursday morning, May 28, 2026. My friend and I were there to celebrate his birthday, which already set a different tone for the experience. The restaurant was quiet. Being early in the day, there was no rush or noise, just an easy stillness throughout the space. We chose to sit on the patio, which felt like the right decision given the weather. I can't fully speak to the interior atmosphere, since I joined my friend directly outside. Service was handled by a staff member whose name I unfortunately don't remember, but whose presence stood out throughout the meal. She was attentive without being intrusive, consistently present at the right moments, and delivered a level of service that felt natural and well paced. The meal began with a rabbit dish ordered by my friend. It was my first time trying rabbit, and it left a strong impression. The preparation was juicy and well seasoned, with a depth of flavor that made it memorable. Looking back, that first experience with rabbit also set a high expectation for any future rabbit dish I might order myself. My main was The Monk's Cellar burger, one of the restaurant's signature items. I ordered it with avocado. It initially arrived without it, but once requested, it was brought out promptly and it was some of the most cleanly presented avocado I've seen served alongside a burger. The burger itself delivered exactly what it was meant to. The beef had a solid, grounded flavor, and what stood out most were the pickled red onions, which added a sharp acidity that balanced the richness of the meat. The structure was simple, but effective, and everything felt intentional rather than overworked. With the avocado added, it became a more rounded and balanced bite. It's the kind of burger that doesn't try to reinvent itself it just executes well. For me, it remains a staple when I return. For dessert, we asked the server to recommend her personal favorite, which led us to a caramel cheesecake. It turned out to be one of the most memorable cheesecakes I've had. The cheesecake itself carried a rich caramel flavor, but what made it stand out was the combination . Each bite brought together cheesecake, crispy banana, a hint of chocolate or cacao, and nuts that added texture and contrast. It was sweet, but controlled complex without feeling forced. Definitely one of my favorites dessert I had ever tried. I won't go into detail about the drink, as I ordered something off menu (Salty Dog) but good. By the end of the meal, the impression remained consistent with previous visits. The Monk's Cellar is not a restaurant I go to constantly, but every time I do, it delivers. I've ended up here more than once for celebrations, including birthdays, which says something about the role it plays for me. Not every restaurant needs to reinvent itself. Some earn their place simply by being reliable when it matters. This one has consistently been that. Daniel Salguero.
