Definitely a little hipster place, very cute reminded me of the LA vibe, looks very clean and the staff during the night were pleasant and attentive! They do have outdoor seating with 4 tables (2 of them being high tops) that are generously spread apart. My bf & ordered: Cauliflower winger with garlic buffalo sauce Chicken wings with garlic buffalo sauce Garlic tater tots All items where good, I personally loved the Cauliflower wings, my bf is a fan of the particular types of wings they serve here, they are friend with a very crispy coating. When my husband and I don't know where to eat but want something downtown, we always end up at churchkey. The vibe is chill and the food is consistently good. I love the cauliflower bites, these are basically the tipping point for me and why we always end up here. They used to coat them in the sauces when you ordered half and half but now they put the 2 sauces on the side which isn't a bad thing. I enjoy being able to sauce them up as much as I want. The spring salad (seasonal item I believe) was very filling and I loved the combo of sweet vinaigrette and salty bacon with red onions. I love the food at this establishment and the drinks are way more affordable here but if for one second you think your going to get any kind of acknowledgment or attention ur wrong. The turn over rate is so horrible and I'll be stuck there an extra hour just trying to wave someone down for a glass of water or silverware. Even the OWNER, devery, lacks hospitality and will ignore you until he feels like you've waiting long enough. If you have 5 hours to spare I would highly recommend this place. Great family friendly spot to stop by any time of the week. I went on a Friday night and there were a lot of young folks. We ordered the garlic buffalo wings and hellapainyo pizza. Wow! What an incredible selection of beer and whiskey. My wife loves the Church tea. I stick to the beer or sometimes an old fashioned. It's legit. Let me start with the food was good . Now, why I gave them a 3 star, this is what happened . I was meeting a small group and got there early . I was seated and when no one came to our table, I went to the bar to order a drink ( my rare night not to be the driver ) no one would acknowledge me. Two men walked up and sat at the bar . Still no one acknowledge me . One of the men asked what I wanted and ordered for me ( what a sweetheart) the female bartender leaned into the male bartender and said "she's with a group at a table " and didn't serve me . I hate to say this. Because, I've always had a great experience at church key. However, the Bartender tonight never bothered to acknowledge me at the bar, offer me a cocktail, or even say hello. After 10 minutes of waiting for some acknowledgment, I simply left. What was the most frustrating is that three other people who work there noticed me sitting there and never bothered to say hello. The bar Back did however, give me a menu and a glass of water. But, I continue to wait another 5 to 7 minutes after that with no acknowledgment from the Bartender. We started with the cauliflower bites (with honey sriracha) and I wouldn't normally pay $10 for some bites of cauliflower, but my friends were raving about them and I could see why. They're fried to a nice crisp and the sauce was so good! For my main meal, I got the royale with cheese burger and it was pretty good. Finally, an artisan pizza spot in Modesto! I love me a thin crust, & Churchkey does the best thin crust pie in the 209. No contest. The crust is crisp throughout, there's absolutely no sogginess. A feat that is not easy to accomplish, especially when the crust is this thin. It's golden, light, & chewy, w good bite. Apparently, crushing it over at Commonwealth wasn't enough for the owners. They decided they needed to open another first rate, casual, gourmet food joint. That is also beer focused. Aesthetically, this space is the complete opposite of its older sister. Churchkey is much larger, & much brighter. Sky high ceilings, skylights, all open. So it's uber airy. Commonwealth is great, but it's not airy. This is actually a loft space, w additional seating upstairs. And the program here is self seating w waiter service, unlike the order at the counter/food then delivered to your table system at Commonwealth. I had heard how great the pizza was, but the arancini really surprised me. Creamy, rich, full of flavor, w the appropriate crispness on the outside...outstanding. All 3 flavors are delicious, but the traditional & the Napa are my favorites. The barbecue is spicy! I understand that since this is a beer focused establishment, the wine options are very limited. Went for lunch today with five other women. To start with waitress seemed annoyed she had to wait on us. Worse $12 cold, dry, and overcooked burger I have had in a long time. Others had salads and seemed happy with them. None of us were asked if we wanted anything else to drink besides water. Water was never refilled. Nor were we checked on to see if there was anything else we wanted or needed. We were seated by 11:30 so it was not overly busy at this time. The storefront is really modern and the interior was clean and hip. There's a bar in the front and an upstairs area too that I didn't get to really see. There are TVs set up all around. My coworkers and I went during lunch. We were a group of 11 and I called around 11:00 o'clock to make a reservation. They informed me that with a party that big, they needed 24 hours notice. I wish it was posted somewhere on their website that that was a rule, because I definitely would have complied. Nonetheless, they said they can make an exception just this once. I also had everyone's order ready to give over the phone in hopes that it would have helped them and us get served in a quick manner as our office was located across town and parking was a bit difficult in the downtown area. But they told me they don't do phone orders and that we'd have to order once we were there. Now whether that means you can call in a to-go order or not -- I'm not sure, but I do know I couldn't place our orders ahead of time. Let me tell you, I was excited about the bacon and egg pizza... breakfast is my favorite and this sounded almost too good to be true. And as much as I wanted to love it, the pizza seemed underwhelming. Too bland. It tasted like I got a cheese pizza with some egg in some bites. The bacon seemed almost nonexistent. This Labor Day weekend we had a tournament in Modesto. For our team dinner we picked out Churchkey about a week ago. With all that is going on in the world, they were extremely helpful in coordinating about 9 families, meals, drinks and outside patio. They were clear in the communication about the bill and how we could split it. Come day of the event, they had to inform us that half of their kitchen staff had tested positive for COVID. Instead of writing us off and closing their restaurant, they had their negative COVID staff open for our event ONLY. We are so appreciative of their service and to top it off, the patio was amazing, great selection of drinks and food. Our group felt so special being the only people there. The stars are for the server because he was very nice. Other than that it was all down hill from there. Came in today - Wednesday at 3pm it was dead. We were told the patio was closed, that's fine. Ordered a margarita and it was literally undrinkable, something must've gotten mixed up while making it because it was pure sour lemon lime juice but terrible. Told the server about it and he took it back and it tasted a little better but not by much.
