Review - Church's Chicken (11623 West Ave, San Antonio) Very disappointing experience on June 20, 2026 around 2:30 PM. I placed an order at the drive-thru and was told after starting that they were no longer taking orders due to two large orders--no apology, no option to wait, just refusal of service. I went inside and found the environment tense and unprofessional. When I asked for a contact number, the cashier couldn't provide one. The manager, Luis Valdez, refused to help, told me to "go online," and repeatedly turned his back on me during the conversation. I'm 65 and my first job in high school was at Church's Chicken, so I was actually excited to visit. Unfortunately, I've never felt so dismissed as a customer. I have a few concerns, but I would like to start off with the positives. Irasema was very pleasant. I want to say good morning to everyone to start off the day cause you never know what's going on with a person. Pleasantly, she responded back to me with a good morning and made conversation with me too. The store was clean as well. I've heard so many horror stories about the surrounding Church's restaurants in San Antonio, but this one turned out to be great. She gave me a complimentary beverage since I had to wait on my food!!!! Now on to the food which I could live with since the service was great but, unfortunately, I won't return. Again, it's not because of the staff, but because of the food that I give this location a low rating. The Mac and cheese said baked. I don't think that it was cooked enough to be baked. It was watered down. The fries were soggy and not crunchy. The biscuits seemed to taste like flour and not honey. The chicken sandwich was over saturated with mayo. And, the chicken wasn't crispy. I went in when the restaurant opened so everything should've been fresh. If you are going to serve something. Might as well serve it right. Like if the food was cold (which it was), fine, I have a microwave. If the food tasted bland (which also was), fine, I can deal with it. But when the food is cold, bland, AND the workers didn't even bother reading the ticket to give me what I order and payed for. That's when I have an issue. I order multiple things that were cost extra on the menu, and they didn't even bother putting them in the bag, I think the workers didn't even bother looking at the ticket for gods sake. Also, as soon as I walked in the building. The first thing one of the workers said was "oh, we are close", while looking at me, and I saw a bag (assuming it was the bag with my food) at the very right of the counter, not even a good looking bag, you know how when you order from any other restaurant to go, they organize and put together your bag? Well this one look like they just threw my stuff together and shove it in the bag. Anyways, the worker told me that they were close but they will serve me, it's okay, I told her if they had an order for me (I just told her my name), and she just said oh and hand me the bag. I told her thank you so much and walk out. Right as I was about to check my food to make sure it's correct outside in my car, I see the same worker walk from behind the counter and go to the door to close it. So, I couldn't go back and tell her if the food was correct or not. By the way, on google maps it says this establishment closes at 10 pm. How are you close when I order my food at 8:46 pm and went to pick it up a bit before 9 pm? I understand some establishments close their establishment an hour early but keep the drive thru going, like McDonald's or KFC. But if this establishment cares so much about closing, like the other establishments, close the doors before hand instead of just telling customers that "it's close" for you to remember that you have to close the doors. Because yes, the other establishments care about closing their lobby an hour early, but they at least give your food correctly and the food quality is great, unlike this establishment. Plus, if you are going to care so much about "being close," how about you start caring about giving out the orders right, instead of closing? I get what is like working for a cheap company that doesn't want to pay their employees much, but if this is the case, the workers should know that by giving out orders wrong doesn't mean company would suddenly pay your more, so might as well do your job correctly, or if you really dislike it (like I'm assuming this workers do), then quit, there's many other places that you could work at. Oh, but they probably won't because they can't slack off at order establishments, got it. I understand I could have gone to the drive thru and tell them what was wrong with my order, but I have anxiety and I didn't want to keep talking to them. Which is why I ordered ahead of time that way I just have to pick up my order. Also, I worked in the food industry before, and I know what people might be capable of doing to your food if you pissed them off, so I didn't want to bother them. For only this reason that I could of gone to the drive thru and ask them to check my order. I give them 2 stars. But besides that, I would have given them 1 star. read more

After I yell out THEN he says :"give me a minute " . After another while he takes my order (incorrectly) and then we have to spend another few minutes correcting the order at the wondow. Then I'm told to pull up front and wait where I am confronted with enough vehicles to fill a drive in movie theater. Its my other fellow patrons waiting on THEIR orders. I went through the drive thru the other night and was told they are out of Mac and cheese for the day, so I got The instant mashed potatoes as my side. When I pick my order up at the window the chicken was correct I did get mashed potatoes but I got no utensils for eating those mashed potatoes. It gets very old going through drive-through's and not getting utensils. I'm sure they assume the food is going to your house and you have utensils however they need to stop assuming. I would give this place 0 stars if I could. I don't even know how they are still open. We moved in the neighborhood less than a year ago. This is the closest fried chicken place around here. But they need to build a different restaurant and close this place down. They should consider a Popeyes, but anything better than this place. The first time I went to this location it was late and I figured maybe because of the time is why the chicken tasted so terrible. Like it had been sitting for awhile. They were also out of several of their side items. Yesterday i decided to give it another shot and I went at 12p. Prime time lunchtime. Thinking that maybe the food would taste better, but I was wrong!! All I ordered was a 10 piece mixed and the chicken tasted as if it were fried in old oil that hadn't been changed out or it was just bad chicken. Several of the pieces had black spots on them and smelled of old grease. I have been to multiple Church's Chicken around San Antonio, but never been to one as gross as this one. Church's on west, went by today around 6:30 pm, while drive through there was a note that said head set not working and there were two cars ahead of me so decided to go in and order there every other restaurant is allowing that. Once im inside a female hispanic employee yells out get out your not supposed to be in here, i said sorry was walking out but did mention thats no way to talk to an employee, asked for her name and did not want to give me her name manager was no where to be seen, almost pushed me out. If you treat a customer like that imagine how your food is made. And then don't want to be held accountable. Went 2 weeks ago to the drive through. Waited over 5 minutes each time for her to take my order after she repeatedly said she'd get to me in a minute. Called the store and someone came out to get my order, but I was over it at that point. Finally got to the drive up window (there were 2 cars ahead of me) and asked to speak with the manager. I was told that there were no managers working, but that my meal would be comped per Val on my next visit. I went by tonight and the lady said that she couldn't comp my meal because I didn't have a receipt. Ummm, how am I supposed to have a receipt when I didn't pay for anything because you never completed my order and no money or goods were exchanged?? So I went inside to talk to the manager, only again, no manager and the shift leader tonight Stephanie said that my name wasn't written in the book. Book? What book? And the guy who had come out to my car the prior time was working and confirmed was I said. I tried to stay calm, but wound up leaving, again, with no food. I called the general manager and asked him to call me, so we'll see if he calls back tomorrow, though I'm doubting it. Then the customer service rep on the phone asked if I wanted to be added to their mailing list. SMH. Did you not just listen to what I told you?
