I don't ever post Yelp reviews and I'm generally a pretty positive person especially when it comes to food (I'll eat almost anything) but man this place was just baaaad. Was gonna go to the pho place next door, but saw this and decided to change my mind last minute. Wish I had stuck with my original craving. Ordered the chicken tikka masala. The place is generally clean but the guy at the register was sneezing and coughing into a towel and didn't wash his hands while he was checking me out and hand me a water cup. There's no public restroom, only a large bottle of hand sanitizer so couldn't wash my hands. The had a chutney bar with 3 different kinds so I grabbed a little of each while waiting for my food. It came as as I scooped into the tikka masala, realized it was the most watery tikka masala I had ever had. I've had some on the watery side before but it still packed some flavor. This was like watered down tomato juice. No flavor. Just salty. Rice was ok and it had a side salad of cucumbers, onions, and iceberg. At least the naan was fresh and you could see the guy kneading it and making it fresh. That was the one redeeming thing about this place. It's not like the guy was rude. He even asked if I wanted more rice as I was forcing feeding myself. I said no thank you. Im Asian, I never turn down extra rice. I hate that I'm writing a negative review, but this was just not good and maybe one of the biggest wastes of $11 on food I've ever made. I figure I'd try to save someone the trip. I suggest not going or definitely not getting the tikka masala here. read more

Ordered a vegetarian meal for $6.95. Came with soda and naan bread. The vegetable was a SMALL 3 oz styrofoam container of some LIQUID lentils. Not enough for a kids meal, sorry to say. Also came with a soup, also mediocre, like straight out of a can. If you want AWESOME Indian food please go to HURRY CURRY on Venice Blvd. For $5.99 you get 2 GENEROUS portions of delicious food and you wont go hungry! Parking at Chutneys is also a nightmare... Just recently my wife and I visit this establishment: First off - your NOT Quality 'Authentic' Indian food. Your workers look sloppy - dirty and your restaurant is filthy. The food you serve isn't fresh - tastes horrible. The workers look like they halfway between buzzed and intoxicated and way too much to drink. We were just standing at the register and I pointed out ot my wife - watching the cockroaches running across the floor and your drains lined with grease. Let alone the dead carcass that are deep fried that you serve with your bare hands!! Let alone the stench of grease/ dirt in the air. It's obvious you don't care about the quality of your food.... I am reporting this business to the health Department. You shouldn't be in business. You obviously don't follow any health health code for cleasiness and your only in for the profit. It's scary to even think that there are places to eat like this one that even exist. I am going to do you a favor and help shut your place down. You serve death - your employees look dead and your place smells like a sewer. And your customers don't know what good indian food is....it's far from here... I don't know if a 3 star or 2 star is more suitable...but I'll stick to 3 since I've been going here a while. The food has gone downhill at this place. I don't know why or how...but chicken is bland. Portions are smaller. So I'm guessing they're using less seasoning and less food to save on costs?? read more

If you go here.....DO NOT GET THE MINT SAUCE that's sitting on the condiment table. This was my biggest mistake since I decided to get a side of mint sauce to go with my naan and got a bad case of food poisoning. The sauces are not placed on ice nor is it chilled. Eat at your own risk. There was nothing special about this place. Totally tasted like mall food at best. The samosas were a great price for $1.25 a pop but were greasy as hell. Unhygienic. Staff are friendly but they handle the food with hands which makes me feel the food to be unhygienic. Also, the chutneys are kept in a open area which is highly prone to dust. Food should be handled with much more care. Food taste was okay. Very avaerage. Only thing i liked was the Samosa 1$. read more

Ordered Tikka masala and another item on the menu. We did not finish either, and I don't like wasting food. Tikka masala tasted like Campbell's tomato soup with some spice. The chicken in it was sparse but it did have flavor and was tender so one star for that. The other dish was ineadable, over fried and flavorless. The nann was moist and chewey so another star for that. The potions were smaller than most Indian restraunts by far, especially for the price of over $10 that we paid for our meal! So In efforts to break out and try new places instead of our faves, we went to chutneys tonight and the reviews looked great. Well I don't know how people love this place and give such good reviews. First let's start by how dirty this place is which I wish I paid more attention to prior not upon leaving. Seats were ripped apart and taped together, trash bin was beyond dirty and sticky And looked like it had never been washed. Service was "meh" at best. Atmosphere was Cold (literally freezing) and unwelcoming. Ok fine I guess for a fast food place if the food would have rocked our world. Well, we got thE veggie plate plus a chicken and lamb dish and they were all above standard spice , burning mouth level. Boo. Several of the items were just so mushy that they were indistinguishable. One of the lentil items was plain watery soupy. All around very disappointing. Mgt: I recommend you clean up the place, invest a few dollars in fixing you gross seats against the wall and at least let your customers know all the dishes are spicy. Disappointing. read more

Ok, so to date this is the WORST in my experience. Terrible Food joint. LA sanitation should inspect and shut it down. The taste, Quantity vs the price, the hygiene , the trays, etc, etc. all and all the number one rip of joint for Indian food. Eww! THe chicken I bought to go was not cooked inside! It had blood and fresh parts GRRRR!!! Also, the owner is tricky. He added stuff to my order- it was a $1 charge for veggies/corn, but I DID NOT ASK FOR IT NOR DID HE ASK ME IF I WANTED IT. He didn't give me my receipt, but I was wondering how come my order was $1 more than what I computed I was going to pay. I!! asked for my receipt and there I saw where the charge came from. food is good they make it right on the spot,but what I really didn't like and it surprises me the most is on the wall it says no public restroom and I even asked if we can use it,the gentlemen that works as a cashier replied no which is iam pretty sure is the owner and yet there was a Indian family there that were using the bathroom as it was public, by the way he has no costumer service what so ever!! read more

I've been coming over 20 years. The food is good, but this place has the absolute rudest service EVER! I was home sick so I ordered through Uber Eats. The whole chicken meal for $23.00 did not come with the sides that the app menu item said, whic are also included in their standard takeout (this is the second time this has happened). I called to inquire and the gentleman said too bad. Not our problem. You don't get the sides or complete meal as an Uber customer. He said they have to pay Uber 30% so too bad. I said he should check the app so that other customers of his don't also pay and not get what is listed as included, and stop coming. "then don't come" was his response". Wow. The food is not good enough to tolerate paying and not getting what you paid for, and zero help or concern. Beef& Chicken Samosa's used to be delicious. The owner informed me that they have changed their recipe...YUCK. There is absolutely no flavor what-so-ever in the samosas. Also they reduced the size of the samosas by 50%. This WAS the only restaurant in the city that sold decent tasting meat samosas. I have also tried two curries...Chicken Tikka is tasteless/ bland and the chicken tastes rubbery & lacks flavor. Chickpea/Channa Masala is very oily and watered down. read more

Have come here many times. After finishing the bad cheap food i needed to wash my hands. Which I have done many times. I knew the owner has seen me before. Let me stop to mention he's a miserable human being who can't stand his customers. This time they "have no bathroom" even though I can see it five feet in front of me. I asked, may I wash my hands. NO. NO NO. Then I said well I won't be back. He replies "no problem..." What a terrible terrible place. Stay away. You can only imagine what they do to the food if they are that cheap and petty. The staff is friendly. The masala dosa is cheap and filling and delicious. The tandoori chicken is also pretty good. The quality at this place is not consistent. I have had some very good meals here and some that were mediocre. read more

good indian fast food. i always get the half-chicken or chicken tikka masala lunch special. parking is sometimes a headache when it gets busy, so its a good idea to have a nickel or 2 for the meters. shouldn't take more than 5 minutes if you're taking your food to go. read more

Great Indian fast food! A lot of good Indian places are pretty expensive around here. Chutney's is affordable, and even with cheaper prices, does not lack quality. this place is a chill lunch spot if your looking for something fast and cheap. it's definitely not the fanciest restaurant nor is it the healthiest, but they're food is okay. their chicken tikka is legit as is their masala (and naan, namely garlic naan). i'd suggest you bring your own napkins considering getting a few is a a feat on its own. i def wouldnt go out of my way for this place, but if you're in the area, its chill. they def need to franchise. && their parking lot is always packed; you'll have better luck parking on pico. read more

If you are looking for gourmet Indian food, this is not the place. But it does serve decent Indian food at a reasonable price. It is relatively clean, albeit small. It really is meant to be a fast food takeout place. "Fast food" Indian food may not sit well with Indian food connoisseurs, but I think this place does a decent job with friendly service. read more

I was starving and wanted some Indian food. This place was the closest to my work. It hit the spot okay, but I probably won't go back unless I'm craving Indian at work again. Their prices are really good- I got Tikka Masala + rice + naan + side salad for 7.50 or so. The Tikka Masala was nice and hot but tasted more like tomato sauce than Tikka Masala.. the naan was delish and fresh (i saw them kneading the dough in the kitchen!), but the side salad didn't have any dressing. I used the yogurt chutney (?) as a dressing and that worked out well. The cashier and guy in the kitchen were really nice. Stop by this place if it's convenient to you, but don't go out of your way for it. read more

I really wanted to like this place. I love Indian food and I wanted to be able to grab a quick Indian meal close to home. I had picked up somosas here before and they were tasty, but pretty small. I don't know if they are handmade there or whether they buy them offsite, but they weren't too impressive. When I went for dinner the other night, I wanted to get a variety of things so I could really check out different menu items. I love dall, so I started with that first. Compared to the dall I've had before, this was almost like soup. It was a saffron infused dall and I couldn't even eat it. I had two bites and had to pour it out. I tried the small salad that came with my dinner, and it was okay, but there were too many onions and lettuce (?) at the bottom of the cup. The next thing I tried was their rice with saag paneer. The rice was solid and tasty. The saag paneer left much to be desired. The cheese was burnt and the spinach seemed to have been sitting for a long time. In one side order of saag paneer, there were only three pieces of cheese and one was less than bite size. I then tried the chicken curry. The flavors were solid, but the chicken was not very good. I tried to finish it but I couldn't. The naan was okay, but it didn't seem fresh. Maybe I'll head back again to give them another chance, but probably not. I have been visiting this place pretty frequently for the last 3 years or so. I normally order from the before 5 pm menu and order either the chicken tikka or chicken tikka masala plate. Okay, so it's not as good as some of the better Pakistani/Indian places in the area, like Al Watan or Karachi Tandoor. But looking for good nehari on the west side?
