I got seated right away, my server was really friendly and attentive. I ordered: hot tea, shirazi salad and ash reshteh. They also brought out a bread basket (I think it was lavash). The food came out insanely fast, I was blown away. And was sooooo good. Every bite was flavorful, IMO. Extremely reasonably priced too. Just wish I had more of an appetite or was with a group to try more of the menu. Definitely recommend. Appreciated the hospitality a lot.

We even said we were very thirsty and asked if we could please have water and the appetizer first, but the appetizer actually arrived after the main course, which made no sense. The main reason we came was for the fresh bread, but when we asked for it she responded with attitude saying, "Oh, you want fresh bread too?" in a sarcastic way. She kept walking past our table and looking at us strangely, and even my friends noticed it and asked why she was looking at us like that. Honestly, it felt like she didn't want to be there or didn't like what she was doing, and that attitude really affected the whole experience. Sadly, the customer service was very poor, and after this experience I won't be returning.

Throughout the meal the staff member kept looking at us in a way that made it seem like we were bothering them simply by being there. I even asked another employee if she was the manager because of how she was presenting the restaurant, but he said they both just worked there. Regardless, the way the restaurant was represented was unacceptable. Overall, this was a very bad experience with zero customer service. Add in the strong Persian tea (with refills!) and some wine and dinner is perfect. Unlike some other places, the pita is just served with butter--no onion or mint. Another curiosity lies in the side vegetables that you get. Generally onion and tomato are present. Sometimes you get a pepper sometimes you don't. Red or green bell pepper? Or maybe you get an Anaheim pepper. We even got some plantains before; I guess it's up to the chef's whims. On a personal note, I like that the Shirazi salad has cilantro instead of parsley, unlike almost all their neighbors. Parsley doesn't sit well with me, unfortunately, which typically means I'm gorging on rice and the salad is typically pre-mixed. As a night hawk I really do appreciate that they're open late. Sometimes I'm weird and want dinner at 10PM and Shaherzad is happy to serve me at that time. Expect your typical condiments: sugar cubes with tea and a shaker of sumac for your seasoning needs. Extra points to the fact they seem to be one of, if not the only, restaurants in the area that still serves Cornish game hen as a lunch special option.

The foul (bean dish) was delicious, and when we asked if they could add a little extra to it, they were happy to accommodate us. The service was warm, welcoming, and genuinely attentive. And don't skip dessert--the baklava is some of the best we've ever had. I understand they've recently changed how they make it, and the result is outstanding. I put my thumbs-up and it was unanimous: Sunnin Lebanese Cafe on Westwood Blvd. and Santa Monica Blvd. it was. Well, I never heard of this place, but I said "let's Go"! When we pulled up to this strip mall entrance that was overflowing with human beings wanting a table at very happy this very we had a RESY. We ordered: * Hummus of course - which was delicious * Babaganouj - which was creamy and extremely dippicle [sic] * Beef Kafta Kebab - just lovely * Taboulah Salad - that was excellent * Fool or Ful depending on what Mideast country - was deepened with fava beans * Alamaza Lebanese beer that paired perfectly with our dinner. The staff here were friendly, helpful and accommodating. I've been gone from Los Angeles close to five years now, and every time I come back, I get a nice surprise like I did at Sunnin.

So I'm only going to rate places by the regret I will feel if they closed down. 5 stars for Chutneys because when the food is good it's on fire good. When it's not perfect because this is actually handmade food with raw ingredients it's still very, very good. Also, it's the only place with Biriyani (Pakistani Karachi style with Potatoes). I miss my mom's cooking so I am a tough sell.
