Customer service is great. I sat indoors because it's allergy season for me but honestly with the way the booths connect I'd rather have sat outdoors. There is an iron gate like partition between the two person booths and the larger booth next to it. They both connect to the wall. Meaning the people at the booth next to me could honestly have been sitting at our table. I heard their entire conversation and I'm sure they heard mine. The food was good, i have been here a few times and though it's nothing to write home about it it's definitely a different option that just regular Mexican food for the area. I had a Mexican-Cobb salad, i didn't ask for no dressing but i didn't get any. And it was perfectly fine without anything added. Chuy's is one of my favorite Tex-Mex restaurants in the Birmingham area. I always get the chicken flautas, and they were amazing as always! Chuy's chicken flautas are corn tortillas filled with roasted chicken and cheese, rolled, fried, and served with guacamole and sour cream on the side. I love to pair the flautas with Chuy's red chili sauce and queso. I dined in, and the atmosphere was fun and relaxed as always. I love to look at all the different decorations throughout while I wait for my food. The service was fast and wonderful, and I never ran out of chips or salsa. I highly recommended Chuy's if you're looking for a fun, easy, and tasty Tex-Mex restaurant in the Birmingham area. read more

Great family restaurant. Generous portions, tasty food and really good never ending nacho chips. I have a Mexican tooth and find the food really satisfying. Service is a bit slow, you can ask servers for chip/drink/dip refills and they happily oblidge-eventually. It won't hurt to plan ahead. I love Chuy's. I have been to ones in Austin TX so many times. I had to check out this one on my work trip. It did not disappoint. We ordered the nachos to start. The server kept the drinks full, soda and sweet tea, and I was able to introduce my coworker to creamy jalapeño dip. Which of course he liked. I got a taco and enchilada combo and he got the Elvis combo. I thought the chips in the nachos were a bit stale, and the enchilada looked that it had sat under the heat too long. The cheese in the enchilada was also hard, not melty like I expected. My coworker appeared to love his meal, he ate the whole thing and complemented it the whole time. read more

I really want to like Chuy's. I really do. I appreciate their vegetarian options and their margaritas, but this restaurant is so mid-tier that it's almost unbelievable. My boyfriend and I are major food people but even he sadly said "I don't like this". We appreciated the complimentary salsa and (ranch????!!) queso. I recommend ordering extra sauces on the side to mask the mediocrtaste of your entree. Solid three stars deserved - drinks are great, food is not. read more

At one time in my life I would probably have given this restaurant 4 or 5 stars. However over the last few visits that opinion has dramatically declined. During Covid this particular location dramatically reduced its menu. And they removed about the only good thing on the menu, the "Baja Fish Tacos". (Because apparently covid makes it to where people can't order fish??). These tacos were the only reason I ate here. Upon returning post covid I was sorely disappointed to find it not on the menu. As I said, the staff blamed covid. Miraculously covid didn't affect a location I visited in Tennessee as few months ago where they had the full menu and my beloved fish tacos. Today I joined the waitlist as normal. I was meeting my family for lunch and knew the wait could be long so I insured I got on the waitlist. We arrived and I went to check in with the hostess, where I was informed that their system was down and they couldn't check anyone in until it was running. They simply weren't seating people. So everyone was just piling up outside the door, with empty tables clearly visible. Apparently if a system can't tell the staff to seat patrons they are incapable of doing it on their own. I waited another 10 minutes and then received a text telling me it was time to check in. Thinking the system was working I headed to the line. A couple in front of me was telling the hostess that it was their estimated seating time, and the young girl at the desk (who finally had a pen and paper and was making a physical waitlist) was telling them it was a minimum 45 minute wait. They promptly told her to just forget it and left. I presented my phone with my text instructing me to go to the front to be seated. There was some looks exchanged by the staff but finally they agreed to go ahead and seat us. What a debacle. Probably 50 people waiting outside, most of who were on the waitlist well before they got there. After being seated our experience didn't much improve; the service was slow. The food was mediocre, looking very lifeless and flat. Still no fish tacos; took a gamble on the shrimp tacos and they were meh. Overall another disappointing visit, and probably my last. read more

Used to be me of my favorite places to eat. The quality of the food has gone way down. When we arrive at around 5pm the place is almost empty but when we tell them 2 in our party they tells us it will be a 15-20 minute wait. Seemed odd but I was like they must be short handed. While waiting this poor lady had to drag in 3-4 kids because she did curbside and they were not responding. The hostess were a complete disaster and their response to her made no sense, they didn't try to check or do their job in the slightest. The lady ask so of if it starts raining you just stop doing curbside and don't respond to which they just mumbled and didn't give her a real answer. It starts seeming warm in there while we wait. We are seated and ask if the AC is broke to which they said yes. When we put our name down on the list the 1st thing they should have said is the AC is broken, that is flat out lying by not informing customers, again hostesses not doing their job. The server was so nice. I ordered steak fajitas and half of the steak was so tough I could eat it. I only noticed 1 piece in restaurant because took remainder of my food go and it was so tough I couldn't eat it. Some pricey food to be such poor quality. read more

My husband had a bad experience at Chuy's a few years back (his entire entree was covered in the creamy jalapeno sauce and it made him sick), so we never come here. Doubled with the fact that we try to avoid the Summitt as much as possible on the weekends/around holidays. it's just never a first or 2nd or third pick for me. But a friend was in the area and when we were brainstorming places to go, Chuy's came up as an option for a margarita and chips/queso. She got there around 4:30 to hold us a table in the bar area, and I'm so glad she did because when I arrived at 4:45 the place was packed! We snacked on margaritas and chips/queso - which were good.... but we kept getting blocked in at our table because the line to access the chip bar was wrapped around us! Maybe some better design/location of that or the tables is needed. It was awkward to have a conversation with strangers standing 6 inches away from your table for part of our time there. My friend got the tortilla soup (which she was't a huge fan of), and we split an order of chicken quesadillas. Our waiter warned us they were out of the onion mixture they use with the quesadilla, but the thing was super bland. Basically chicken (with no seasoning) and cheese. I would have much rather spent those calories on more chips and cheese. Not sure I'll make a special trip to return... or if I do... it may be a few years. read more

First off, use their website to put your name in if the day/time you are wanting to go will be bust. We went at lunch time on a Sunday and heard people being quoted 1 hr for a table. We got in within our window given on the website. After being sat, service was great and the food was amazing! We got some Panchos with fajita beef, a salad, and 3 kids meals. Kids meals come with a drink, side, and dessert which was an orange push pop. All great! Thier salsa is amazing and has some heat to it. Normally I just go to Chuy's for their jalapeño dip but this time I went with a friend and decided to get margaritas and the chicken quesadillas. In my opinion everything was very subpar. I'm a real big margarita fan and my friend was trying margaritas for the first time and wanted to go to the Summit so I chose Chuy's. I couldn't taste alcohol in my margarita at all and slurped it down like a slushy! I also didn't feel the alcohol at all and neither did she. The quesadilla weren't too bad but I would've preferred more seasoning. She said that she loved her beef enchilada! She said it was very flavorful so I wish I would've gotten that. read more

I'm shocked to see so many low ratings for Chuy's a place which honestly makes me more happy than a McDonald's did when I was 6. It has that same uplifting feeling. Never had a bad meal or experience at any location. With that said most of the stuff on the menu is really basic. If you want authentic Mexican, Chuy's is not your place. However it is such a fun place. They have them at many places in the south and the menu is same everywhere. The creamy jalapeño sauce is the main reason I love this place. We call it crack sauce because it is so addictive. They go perfectly with the super thin and crunchy chips. You can order as many sauces as you want and they're all free along with an endless supply of chips. The servers will even send to go cups of sauce home with you! They also have the best tres leches cake may I dare say in the country. They even have a few healthyish options if you want to indulge in the tres leches and chips. This location on 280 has outdoor and indoor seating. I hate coming to the summit during the holiday season and I wish there was a Chuy's in Hoover or Vestavia! Build one and I will come! read more

I love me some Chuy's. Why it's taken me so long to review it I really don't know. The food quality and service has always been pretty good-never had to wait more than 10 minutes and no complaints about the staff-they are friendly and fast. Some of my personal favorites are the chuychanga and the big as yo face burritos. My absolute favorite and a MUST GET when you are here is the creamy jalapeño dip. Ask for it. You won't be disappointed and it goes great with anything-chips, over burritos, tacos, etc. My most recent visit here after COVID hit really got me impressed. All employees wore masks, tables were set for social distancing, sanitizing stations were available, and all utensils we marked in a package as sanitized when you arrived to your table. Everything looked clean and they made extra effort to be safe and healthy. Also, you can't beat the view on the patio when the weather is good and I've heard they have a decent nacho bar during happy hour. My only complaint is the parking here-sometimes it takes a while to find a spot during peak times. Other than that, I'll keep coming back! read more

After many trips the Chuy's over the years, here are my recommended menu items. 1. When they bring chips and salsa, ask for creamy jalapeño, it's like jalapeño ranch and it's great. It's also good when you add some of the chunky part of the salsa in it. 2. Drinks: Grand Ma's Rockin Rita, Texas Tini or house margarita 3. App: Panchos - like nachos but served as large, individual, house-made chips with all of the toppings on each chip instead of a heap of chips with everything on top 4. Decided to visit Chuy's for my ethnic cuisine meal this week. I love Mexican food and this place did not disappoint. The staff were extremely friendly, especially the waiter. We were seated immediately and received the order in a timely manner. I was able to substitute and take off anything I didn't want. There were packaged utensils and no COVID restrictions, which I was fine with. My favorite part of this visit was the tres leches dessert. It was like nothing I've ever had before. Whenever my co-workers and I are looking for a place to meet after work, Chuy's is one of our top choices. First of all, they are great for groups. Their circle tables allow everyone to be able to talk to everyone which is nice. Also, their bright, festive environment, makes you feel good just walking in the door. Second, during warmer weather, they have a great patio with an amazing view. And if you are on a budget, they have great daily specials, yes even on the weekends, as well as a Monday - Friday happy hour. As part of their happy hour, they have a FREE fully loaded nacho car. Also, their items are fresh, not frozen and they hand make their tortillas all day long. What I order when I go to Chuy's is the bean and cheese burrito with boom-boom sauce. The boom-boom sauce is made with cheese, roasted green chiles, tomatillos, green onions, cilantro and lime juice. And if this sauce doesn't sound good to you, they have nine others to try. This is a really fun place to eat! My girlfriend did not introduce me to Chuy's, but she has helped me appreciate the food and atmosphere here. Being that I have taken her here for her birthday and eaten here on several other occasions, it is time for my input. The homemade baskets of chips are utterly addictive. Now, the salsa they provide the table is solid and spicy, but the best thing to dip the chips in is the creamy jalapeno sauce! You have to request it, but they are very good about replenishing the bowls and giving you enough to pour on your entree if desired. This is definitely a unique feature of this place to distinguish itself from the competition. The entrees are about your standard southwestern fare, with loads of rice and beans to complement most meals. I got the big boy steak burrito on my last visit and was barely able to finish it (probably partially filled on chips). Portions are generous and you could get another meal from one order if you pace yourself right or aren't super hungry when you come. We also got house margaritas for national margarita day which complemented everything. Can't wait to return for some more deliciousness!
