I had an amazing shrimp burrito the other day from Here! I normally shy away from shrimp burritos & get veggie bc they tend to not clean the shrimp. At Chuy's they do it right, this one was a good choice...cleaned and seasoned properly! OMG it was delicious. Plus it was s decent size and left me full, almost couldn't finish lol. My man got 3 meat tacos and said he loved them too. I liked the atmosphere, we sat inside since it was a lil rainy. Staff was nice to use and brought the food out quick enough. Chuy's Fiestas has been bookmarked for a long while because we enjoy barria from time to time. As luck would have it, we were in the neighborhood and started to get hungry. Chuy's was only a 5 minute drive from where we were at. So we went around the block once and found one across the street! I guess this was meant to be. The place had a few patrons, so we were able to grab a table easily on a week night at around 5:30 pm. This spot made us happy with its colorful Mexican decor. olé Olé OLÉ!!! ***OUR PICKS*** CACHONDA MICHELADA ~ tortilla chips, aguachilies (shrimp ceviche), and a michelada drink that came with a refreshing 32 oz bottle of beer, all for $18! Almost a meal on its own! The ceviche was lip puckering zesty which came with crispy tortilla chips. It was tart, but we enjoyed it!! We also liked the michelada drink which tasted like a Bloody Mary cocktail and they included a tamarind straw. Yum! 5/5 QUESABARRIA ~ marinated beef, jack cheese, cilantro, salsa, onions, roja tomatillos, and consume. Lots of barria spots are usually very salty. However, I felt it wasn't as salty, yet it was still very flavorful. Just the right amount of seasonings. You can even drink the consume without feeling thirsty. 5/5 FLAT TOP CRISPY BURRITA (CARNITAS) ~ choice of meat, beans, jack cheese, pico de gallo, guacamole, avocado salsa. It was like a super burrito crisped up on all sides. Loved the crispy tortilla! Very tasty and satisfying! 5/5 We really enjoyed our meal at Chuy's! My third time at Chuy's and always a good one. The pitcher of sangria is so worth it, especially on a hot day sitting in their patio. The quesabirria (not pictured) is to die for and the plates they serve on are so cute! Got the shredded chicken vampire taco with green sauce and a grilled chicken taco this time, the shredded was my favorite. I honestly could have gotten by with one taco, they're pretty substantial! Good service and they always bring more chips and refill on water. The only thing is that there were a lot of bugs on their patio which can't be helped much in the hot weather. Best place we ate during our trip to San Fran! I'm very picky about my Mexican food & this place is IT. It's about 20 minute from downtown and out of the touristy area. After a long day, I desperately needed a Michelada & this place did not disappoint. They offer a few different Michelada options- served cantarito style, en barríl and more. I opted for en barríl and it was so delicious. We had carne asada quesadilla, shrimp/asada burrito & asada tacos. All portions are excellent and prices were very fair. Place is kind of claustrophobic. It looks festive but there are a lot of back and forth people running around. It may have been because our table was not in a good spot. Food was ok, nothing mind blowing. It is likely a good option for people living close by. There are so many good Mexican places in the city that it's hard to compete. read more

This place was the first non-disappointing Mexican spot in SF I tried. I had been wanting some aguachiles and saw this spot had good reviews. I was a little skeptical because I have tried several Mexican spots with "good" reviews here but the food had been bland and Americanized. I went with another person and we order the molcajete mixto, aguachiles, two birria tacos, and a michelada. It was amazing. The servers are sweet and care about their customers. I'm obsessed with this place!! I have come several times before going to pottery across the street. They have a lovely back patio that's good for large group or a warm summer day. My favorites are the pan fried fish and shrimp tacos!! Just the PERFECT flavor combination of savory, sweet, creamy, and refreshing, especially the slaw they put on top. Cane here on a Friday evening at 6:30 PM with a party of 4 and we were seated immediately. We sat in the back patio which is only accessible through the kitchen. The back patio has an overhead canopy for most of the tables, and there were plenty of bigger tables for larger parties (such as the graduation party happening next to us). I got the Mango Agua Fresca and the 3 Chicken Enchiladas Verdes. The waitstaff were fast with getting our drinks and food but were hard to locate otherwise. I got my food but didn't have a fork so I had to go inside to ask for one and even that took a bit since I didn't want to interrupt the kitchen. Mango Agua Fresca: 4/5, large size and good mango sweetness! Very refreshing. 3 Chicken Enchiladas Verdes: 4/5, very generous portion -- definitely could have been split between two people! The enchiladas were a bit sweeter than I imagined they would be but still good. Overall, it was a great place to have a catch up dinner with its homey and friendly environment. The only major downside was that a waitress dropped some drinks near us and glass and beer shattered everywhere, getting some of the drinks on us. It wasn't a major mess on us, though. read more

We got the Mar y Tierra enchilada special with shrimp and steak wrapped in bacon; it was enough for 2 people to share and comes with a delicious side salad with cucumbers, tomatoes, avocado and a little Mexican flag. We also got the sopes appetizer with 1 pollo verde, 1 birria lamb (AMAZING), and 1 carnitas. The strawberry agua Fresca was also homemade and delicious. We didn't get any alcoholic beverages but the 40oz modelo michelada made with ceviche looked WILD, for $16. Would definitely come back just to try that. Hands down my favorite mexican place in the mission. Their seafood plate is so good with a bit of everything. My favorite is the bacon wrapped shrimp, just so flavorful and juicy. Service is great, food does take 10-15mins to come out so it's best to order everything all at once. Birria tacos were perfectly seasoned and came with consume to douce in. PSA: Chips are no longer free. They now charge $2.50 for house chips + green salsa. Also, there is a 4% service fee added to your check by default, which is included in the "suggested tip" subtotal. Neither is disclosed on the menu, and my server failed to mention them, too; be forewarned. We had a brief scuffle on the chips. They actually charged me $5, since I asked for extra salsa and a second basket of chips, thinking they were free...they later refunded me the $5, after I complained. In practice, I have no issue paying for chips, so long as that is disclosed up front. You need to put this on the menu and you should not assume people know in advance. Bad business practice here needs to be called out. Chip debacle aside, this time around I tried the special "Fiesta Fajitas" for the main event, and these were excellent. Specifically, the portion size is huge (enough for two, or one hungry lad). They are served with four warm, homemade tortillas (these stole the show!), and a giant, heaping plate of accompaniments, consisting of guacamole, refried beans, tomato salsa, sour cream, and rice. The fajitas themselves come with tons of onions & peppers, which were caramelized to perfection without getting too soggy. There are three proteins: steak, chicken, and shrimp. All had a nice char and were seasoned well. I do wish the shrimp came peeled, but that is a nitpick. Having previously tried their burritos & tacos, I can say that the fajitas are the dish to get. It's a great value at $21.50. Do note that after tax, tip, & surcharge, it will set you back closer to $30. However, given the tremendous portion size, I still think it's a great deal, and I will return specifically for this dish. read more

Got their grilled burrito was Asada and added sour cream and it was hot and cripsy and didn't have any fatty meat parts. It was worth every penny. And with prices now, totally worth it for less than $13 without tax and tip. Get the added salsa and chips for under $3. It's a avocado green salsa with a small side of chips. Very flavorful and will work great on your burrito. My friend ordered the chicken burrito and loved it. Now for the meh part. The quesabirria was meh. Absolutely wonderful pozole. (Assume this review cancels out Margarita L's three line review That claims no-meat all fat pork, no hominy in the soup and not very much broth. I have no idea what she is talking about.) There was great broth, a ton of pozole and a ton of really meat-y pork with just a little fat for flavor. * * * But the headline story is their Fiesta Michelada. I don't know what the difference is between a Fiesta Michelada and a Michelada Michelada. (I should have asked Raul - the owner or manager who came by our table multiple times and is a complete charmer.) But I was blown away by the Michelada. (In every sense of the word. There was enough alcohol in that thing that my table mates had to roll me home. Blackberry Nitrogen Ice Cream at Smitten did revive me ...) For all I know Cal-Mex Micheladas are much better than Tex-Mex Micheladas. (I know vast amounts about Tex-Mex cuisine. I am a Cal-Mex toddler.) Have been here twice now. The must have orders are: Augachile (10/10), Flat top burrita (8.5/10), and birria tacos (10/10). Tons of flavor all around! My favorite was actually the burrita but there's so much liquid in the burrito that it ends up falling apart halfway through eating it lol. We also ordered the pozole and the quesadilla, both of which were passes. They used to give chips out for free but now they don't. It's not usually an issue for me since I don't care for the chips anyways since they're usually too hard. This is a 3.5 star review. I came in a little on the late side on a Tuesday night. I was expecting more, however those tacos were great. Ambiance and service was a bit lacking. No one came to check on us, we needed more salsa, but wasn't able to order, etc... The homemade tortillas are delicious. The tacos are huge and were good. 2 was plenty. The shrimp one was really good, and the vampiro was great (and honestly a meal in itself). It had true cuts of steak, not that pounded out, cut up scraps. So kudos to that. What took this meal to a less than 4 star review: The guac and chips were sad. The guac was a bit watery and not flavorfully fresh. The chips were stale. As mentioned, the service was fine, but not really there. Overall, high expectations from the reviews, and I'm sure a great spot if you doing takeout or doing a super casual eat.
