I'd say this is a solid 4/5 based on their burritos and excellent customer service. The team here is always hospitable and friendly, which makes every visit enjoyable. Their indoor dining space is spacious and clean too! Their burrito is my go-to and definitely worth sticking with. Today I tried the red chicken enchiladas, and while they were okay, the sauce leaned more toward a mole-style flavor rather than the tangy, spice-forward enchilada sauce I usually prefer. I'll continue coming here for their steak burritos, but I'll grab my enchiladas elsewhere. Overall, I wish the rice and some of the other dishes had a bit more flavor to push this to five stars, but I love that they always give free chips and salsa, it's a nice touch! read more

I met up a friend at this place after work, but chose a day that missed the happy hour specials. Darn! But no matter i ordered their popular Plate that the cashier owner told me about and my friend ordered two tacos . It's a nice cozy casual restaurant you can just sit back the relax in to chat and never felt rushed. We ended up talking to the owner who is very nice. This restaurant used to be in the Haight District and later moved here in the Castro. I consider this a hidden gem. My friend and I pass it by every day and never thought of stopping in. Finally I found a place with good Mexican food in SF!!! I have been searching for so long. I came for a smog check and was walking around and saw this place. The reviews were great so I decided to try it out. It is soooooooo good. The tacos are huge. Like double the size of a regular street taco and is so stuffed. I ate two chignon and was so full. I've been here a few times and the food is good. The latest time I was here for an unexpected happy hour. $3 street tacos! Woo hoo! I hate to be that person, but patronizing this establishment is incredibly frustrating. About half of the time I come by, this place isn't open during their advertised business hours. They were doing some remodeling work at one point, and they had a sign that said they would be done by 'x' date, but the work dragged on for weeks afterward and never updated their signage. Another time, they were just inexplicably closed with a sign saying they would be back open tomorrow, but days later they still had the same sign up and were not open. Today, I came by at 11:20 and they were closed again even though everything on the internet says that they are open. I called them and asked when they were opening and the guy on the phone said at 11:30. So I take a walk around the block and come back at 11:40 and they still aren't open. I called them again and asked when they were going to be open and the guy on the phone said something about the meat and tortillas not being ready and that they would probably be open closer to noon. Anyways I was hungry and had already spent enough time trying to eat here. I went to their competition down the street. I typically like to leave this information with the owner directly, however I can't find any website with any sort of email to send it to, so here I am. Sucks because I actually like the food here but this inconsistency in their hours has become problematic. If you want to eat here I recommend calling them first and if no one answers, I would go somewhere else. read more

Having recently headed to the Mission District for tacos I was surprised by some of the prices. A small 2-taco order was easily $10 if not more. This made Zona Rosa a slam dunk. I walked by on Taco Tuesday and noticed that street tacos (what they call "Jefe Tacos"; normally $5 apiece) were a very reasonable $3. Opting for a carne asada and an el pastor Jefe Taco I was easily able to assess how these compared to their counterparts recently enjoyed at the Mission's Taqueria Vallarta: * Both el pastor and carne asada taco (meats and fillings) were equivalent in flavor. Both good and enjoyable. * With the Taco Tuesday deal, Zona Rosa tacos are the far better deal ($6 vs $10 for 2). * The tortillas at Taqueria Vallarta are better. Both places use two tortillas per taco. * Now here's where Zona dosa really shines: Though you order at Zona Rosa's counter you're served at your table. The server, who also manned the register, brought chips (free of charge), salsas (in squirt bottles, but good), and iced water. I felt like I was actually serviced and that's not what I found in the Mission (or,for that matter, at very many other places these days). Really wanted to like this place because the service was nice but it's truly just average. Free chips but they were cold and kind of stale. I got the enchilada plate with chicken in mole sauce. The sauce was bland as well as the rice. The refried beans tasted like they came straight out a can. You have to walk through the kitchen if you need to use the restroom which seems a bit unsanitary. Every single thing that I have eaten at Zona, Rosa has been absolutely delicious (I have tried everything from their quesadillas to their burritos to their tacos to their special dishes... even the chips are absolutely delicious). Beyond just really good food, what I've enjoyed a lot about going here almost on a weekly basis at this point is getting to know the owners and getting to know the story behind the restaurant. There is something pretty special about the attention to detail that the staff at this restaurant gives every single customer. And it's not just about a couple of times that they've offered a free refill on chips or the way in which I see them treating other customers.... It's making it seem like every time you dine in, you're having a family meal. That is something that is very hard (in my opinion) to replicate within any restaurant's environment. I am very happy that after a short period of time where they were renovating, they've opened back up again! I remember this place when it was on Haight Street, did not know it was still around. Stumbled across it for a quick bite before a movie at the Castro theater recently. Same delicious salsa and flavors that I remembered. The people in our party ordered burritos and tacos, and everybody liked their food. The burritos are good sized. For a taqueria they actually have good service, it's over the counter and seat yourself, but she actually came and checked on us and brought us water. After I sat and waited for food it was maybe only one minute and they communicated right away they ran out of asada and tried to comp me a different taco. I just asked for both with Al pastor. Yummy Mexican spot! Saw the reviews and had to try it for ourselves! We both got burritos. I got chicken with refried beans and my husband got shrimp. Both very good! It seems like it'd be a good staple spot - it's nothing absolutely extraordinary, but it's very good and the staff are so so nice and helpful! Also the burrito was huge! My husband finished his, but I will certainly be eating my other half for lunch tomorrow. We also loved that we were able to watch the NFL game while we ate. Really nice folks with the bmost generous 7 dollar shrimp taco in history. I've eaten here several times, and never have been disappointed. The shrimp are pretty big, cooked just right with a dash of garlic to step it up 12 pieces for 7 bucks. It's a nice business, and worthy of a visit. read more

I've been there a few times now since they opened and I've tried El Jefe tacos, which come with meat, cilantro, onions, and salsa, and I am not lying to you when I say these are the best tacos I've had in San Francisco. These tacos are almost like the tacos I'd eat every night in Mexico. Just authentic, simple flavors. I've also had the regular burrito, the regular quesadilla and the guacamole and chips. Everything is delicious! And the folks working there are so nice, too! And I love that whenever I go they have some good music playing. Some rancheras that make the experience even better. Ask for the El Chingón or En El Mar in El Dorado style (toasted). It's the best! Well made, always warm/hot with ample of meat and always hit the spot, unlike the other places I get a cold burrito when I bring them home. The El Dorado Style makes all the difference. I was almost able to eat it at one sitting. My companion had the same but with carne asada. She now has a second meal and all for $15 each. Massive and delicious burritos- need I say more? I came in here on a Saturday night and surprisingly it was fairly quiet. I ordered the El Chignon with all the fixings inside. The meat was cooked perfectly and was large enough to split among two meals. It also came with a side of fresh tortilla chips. Shout out to the gentleman at the cash register who was super friendly and offered me different salsas for my burritos and chips.
