Wow, not what I was expecting at all but you know what, I kind of like it. The place is decorated like a 50's style diner yet Mexican themed. I love the giant Elvis pictures that greeted me in the doorway. I ordered the pork enchilada with rice and beans. I opted for the ranchero sauce instead of the green chile sauce. I was super pleased with this switch. The chips are good but I personally wasn't a fan of the salsa. Not their fault just my own personal preference. The salsa did appear fresh. I visited Chuy's last night for the first time attending a Yelp Elite event. I was very impressed upon entering the restaurant - the decor is fantastic. Every room, every nook and cranny is decorated beautifully with many authentic Mexican pieces. Carved & painted fish by the hundreds hanging on the ceiling, retablos hung throughout, a wall of Dog pictures & portraits, a beautiful Mexican tiled accent wall and flooring, the vestibule entry is whimsical with the portraits hung and last but not least the hubcaps by the hundreds hung in the private room where we dined is their signature touch. We were treated to an array of appetizers and about eight different sauces to be used with chips or could be added to your entree. Everything is fresh and made in house. We were offered three different entree's (Steak Burrito, Chicka-Chicka Boom-Boom Chicken & Veggie Enchiladas) all delicious! My favorite was the Steak Burrito followed by the Veggie Enchiladas. Throughout the meal Strawberry & Pineapple Margherita samples were given. I heard the Pineapple was especially delicious. Even though I ate much more than I intended I "managed" to eat every bit of my Tres Leches Cake - it was DELICIOUS - and YES worthy of all CAPS! A couple of weeks ago I attended a Yelp event at Chuy's and was blown away by the quality, flavors, and staff enthusiasm. Naturally, I needed to go back & introduce a new friend to it! We went on a weekday and were able to experience the "nacho bar in a car" firsthand. So fun! Sometimes you wonder if they restaurants are just pulling out all the stops for the yelp event and then you go back and are disappointed. Not the case with Chuy's. The quality and service is phenomenal across the board. The funky decor and 90s jams really sold it for me. I always like to know what others order since I have major food FOMO. Here's what we got: Loaded up nachos from the car near the bar. Flautas plate - 6 flautas, rice, refried beans, dollop of guac and sour cream, diced tomatoes and lettuce. We went on a Saturday night with wonderful friends. I have had their jalapeno ranch dip before but I have never been to the restaurant. Tonight was the night! We all enjoyed our food. Cheese dip was great. Amy husband had an Elvis dish chicken breast covered in hot cheetos dish. I had a number 1. And one friend had the tacos and the other enchiladas. All was wonderful. Order the Green Hatch chili sauce for a spicy option and I prefer the Fajita Chicken or Beef in the Big as your head Burritos. If you just want an appetizer to share with a friend order the Chuy Gooey (not on the menu) to dip your chips in. If you don't like that I am not sure we could be friends lol. read more

Chuy's is like the guy who loves Cinco de Mayo but has no idea what the historical context is. This is Tex-Mex at its finest and this weaseled its way into our hearts after our beloved Don Pablo's closed. First up: Drinks! So, I'm a sucker for margaritas and I usually go for the classic margs at a place just to see how good their basics are. This was pretty good. It was tangy and sweet and cold, just what I was expecting. Nothing special, but not bad. Next: Starters! When we sat, our server brought out a basket of chips, and cups of salsa and jalapeño ranch dressing. The creamy jalapeño was surprisingly good with the thin, crispy chips. The chips were the good kind: super foldy and thin with a light, crispy texture. Just perfect. The salsa was fresh and just a bit spicy. Really, I can't say more good things about the chip service. Stellar. Last: Entrees! I ordered the veggie enchiladas, but I subbed the ranchero sauce that it normally comes with for the deluxe tomatillo sauce. It was creamy and delicious and exactly what I wanted for the enchiladas that were stuffed to the brim with veggies. It was delicious. The rice and beans were pretty basic, but solid sides with the enchiladas. C got the Chuy-changa was stuffed with shredded chicken and drizzled with sour cream. He got to pick the sauce that came with it and he went for the same deluxe tomatillo sauce I did. He really loved the whole thing. He thought it was surprisingly refreshing because of its simple ingredients. Because the sauce he picked was on the bottom, it kept the chimichanga really crispy. G got the kids enchilada and she really liked it. It was better than her favorite Mexican place, so you can tell it's good. Simple but flavorful seems to be Chuy's niche. E got the kids quesadilla with macaroni and cheese. It was a really cheesy meal for our really cheesy gal. Side bar: service The only thing that kept it a five star experience was the fact that our server was less-than-stellar. He forgot C's drink order and seemed a bit absent-minded. It was surprisingly busy for 3:00 on a Sunday, so that may have led to the service issues, which weren't horrible, but it was enough to bring it down by a star. TL;DR: Really great Tex-Mex place with simple and delicious food. We will certainly back. And make sure you try the creamy jalapeño. It's amazing. read more

It was amazing to us to find a Chuy's in Indiana. I went to college in Austin where Chuy's originated, and it has been impossible to find good Tex-Mex. I really can't believe this has been around so long and we didn't even know it. Now we just can't wait for the Carmel location to open. There were a couple of cons, the wait was 25 minutes, and when we got seated there were some long waits for the waitress to come back, so the kids were getting a little restless. But this could easily be explained as a busy night. We made it just in time for the end of Happy Hour, which was awesome because they had complimentary quest that we could bring to the table. Kids got to have Powerade, which was a bit of a treat for them. We treated ourselves to drinks. I had the Texas Tini, which was basically a rocks margarita served in a martini glass. The olive was stuffed with a jalapeño. This drink won the night. The swirl margarita was ok. But once the food arrived, we were very happy. I had the Comida Deluxe which had two Tex-Mex cheese enchiladas, two chicken flautas, a taco, a tostada with queso, and rice and beans. The enchilada tasted just like it should, the taco was good, and the beans were on point. The flautas were a little dry and bland, it was probably the worst part of the meal, but still satisfied the Tex Mex craving. My wife had the chuychanga, which is essentially a chimichanga with chicken. She got it with the green chile sauce. It was apparently pretty tasty. The kids both got quesadillas, which were made with what appeared to be freshly made tortillas, a definite plus. If we lived closer to Noblesville, we would be over there frequently. Place seems to have really gone downhill. Cutlery was dirty, enchiladas tasted like they were microwaved. The margarita was fine, but nothing special. For over $12 a plate, being served 2 mediocre enchiladas felt wrong. The inside is quirky and fun but you'll be better off to go to a real Mexican restaurant. I had a great time at Chuy's at HTC. Chuy's has Happy Hour Monday-Friday 5-7pm. Drink specials and a free nacho bar. The nacho bar had queso, chips, salsa, ground beef, and beans. All of this takes place in the bar area. We seated ourselves and the server took our drink orders. Chuy's has a wide variety of drinks but I played it safe and got the frozen watermelon margarita---- regular size. Yummy! :) My group stayed with the free nacho bar so I look forward to coming back and trying regular menu items. I really thought the decor was fun and playful. The walls are covered with pictures of dogs. Brightly colored fish are hanging from the ceiling. When I reached this location the first thing I noticed is that this place looks big and have plenty of parking space. There are some things I noticed which I would like to point out early In the review first the main spot light at front door was flickering so bad kind of gave me a headache as when I reached there was 20 mins waiting and the reception area was full so I choose to wait outside, second I ordered soup for appetizers and the soup bowl came in hot plate and it had a handle and the handle in the end was broken, it's a small thing but for me presentation matters when I choose to go in a restaurant. The chip and salsa was ok and not amazing I had tried better dips at pure authentic Mexican restaurants before. We ordered house margaritas and we didn't like it much, they were very bland also the over all food was not there up to the mark so I think chef needs to redo something in the recipes to make them awesome. The server was very nice and helpful so full marks to her. First experience to Chuys was good! We ended up ordering the combo fajitas for one person and slitting it with a small amount of leftovers to take home! We asked for all of the sauces with our chips and our favorite sauce was the boom boom, it had a little kick but not too spicy, it had a queso Vibe! If you like spicy you need to try the Hatch Green Chile, so spicy and so yummy!! The ambiance of the restaurant was interesting, you have the bar that has personal dog pictures everywhere and the other side has vehicles rims all over the ceiling. Our server was very knowledgeable about the menu but seemed to be a little in a rush. The menu was a little smaller due to covid but it still had a variety of options, including a spot for children. I have one complaint about Chuy's - they are not closer to my house! Bring in another Indy location!!!! Food is consistently delicious. Service is anywhere from average to great. Ask for the creamy jalapeno dip with your chips and salsa. Everything we have had is delicious, my favorite are the cheese or chicken enchiladas with tomatillo sauce. Plenty of flavor without heat. And I cannot get enough of their super-thin warm tortilla chips. One item of note, I would love if they had a mild version of their salsa. On days my heartburn is acting up, their regular salsa is too hot for me, and our mild-loving toddler can never handle it. I would love a milder version with all the same great flavor. read more

I confess two things - first, I'm from Southern California and a Mexican food snob, and second, I went to Chuy's only because my family was going somewhere else nearby for dinner and it was packed, so we had few other choices. This kind of place would have typically violated one of my cardinal rules of Mexican restaurants - it needs to be either small, family owned (NON-CHAIN!!) and authentic (think your local taqueria) or grossly fast-foodish (ala Taco Bell, Del Taco, Taco John's, etc.) and pretty cheap. Nevertheless, Chuy's is no Chi-Chi's (remember that dreadful place?). Everything we got, from nachos to burritos to tacos to enchilada, was clearly Tex-Mex, but in a good way. My nachos were loaded with every topping I'd reasonably want, and I barely finished them, which is saying something. Despite the Father's Day crowd and the fact that there were managers filling in on the back line, our server was pleasant and swift and forgot nothing. I think if this is typical of this chain, it can make a go of it. It's not the scary type of Mexican food that Americans are afraid of - stuff with words they don't know and ingredients they would never try. It's simple stuff most everyone has ever heard of, and it was all simply prepared and looked and tasted good. I'd recommend this to anyone who's near a location and wants to branch out and try something different on a Friday evening. Very family oriented. read more

I love Chuy's. However with COVID-19 they have gone to a limited menu. However, before COVID 19 there was an extensive menu to pick from. There a several things that I love about Chuy's. The first is the car bar. This was in the bar and it was queso, taco meat and toppings. It was free and an added bonus. It was only weekdays and one of the main reasons I love going to Chuy's. Secondly, there creamy jalapeño dip. I have no words. It just goes with everything. I always put it on my entree. I will also say that I love anything I get there. However, I will say that their taco salad is more salad than your typical taco salad. That being said, I love their tacos, chuychanga, and fajitas. Their tortilla chips are also fresh. They are so light and I definitely pig out on them when I am there. Lastly, their taco shells are made fresh! They are so good and I love love love them! I recently found out I needed to avoid Gluten. My family and I decided to go to Chuy's after church today. Items were not marked as gluten free on the menu. However, I mentioned this to our server and she promptly went and got the head chef Robert Jones. Robert grabbed a chair and pulled up to the table. Finally! Some good Tex-Mex food in Indiana. Don't confuse it with Mexican food. There's a difference. I've been familiar with Chuy's from my time living in Austin, Texas in the late 90s. You come for the food and stay for the kitsch. You could spend hours wandering around the restaurant looking at all the crazy decor there and the new Noblesville location is no different. What's keeping this Chuy's from a 5-star review right now is the service. I ate here on only their 5th day of operation (1st Saturday) and it was a little chaotic inside. The servers were still in training so they had all their shifts there at the same time so we were bombarded with staff. They got a couple of our orders wrong. 1st out of our table of 7, 2 people ordered one of their margaritas. One with salt, the other without. However when they came but they had salt on both glasses. Also, someone in our party ordered one of their enchilada plates with the green sauce (tomatillo) and the hatch chile rice, but they messed up and put hatch chile sauce (amazing, by the way) on the enchilada and gave her the regular rice. The remade her order and it came out very quick, which was good. These are minor details that I expect to be ironed out in a couple weeks once the servers and the cooks/bartenders get on the same page. More about hatch chiles. For those who don't know, the presence of the hatch chile is one thing that distinguishes Tex-Mex from Mexican food. It's a hot pepper that is truly embraced by the Southwest and is nowhere to be found in Mexican food. In fact, it is revered in New Mexico and is the state vegetable. The Hatch Valley is the only place it can be grown (similar to how champagne only comes from France). The town of Hatch, NM, hosts an huge annual festival that is attended by culinary luminaries and is covered by the press. I've always come to Chuy's for the enchiladas. You can substitute their recommended sauces to any of their seven (!) amazing sauces. All the tortillas and chips are handmade daily. In fact, Chuy's is so proud of this fact, that they've placed the tortilleria smack dab in the middle of the restaurant so you can watch the ladies at work (there were 4 at the time) from your table. Or you can walk up to the window and press your face up to the glass for a closer view. Try to come early otherwise expect a wait. We came at 11 AM (the time they open on Saturdays) to be sure we got a table right away. It's a good thing we did. By the time we left, there were people not only waiting inside, but outside as well. A friend has been raving about Chuy's for months, so we went as a work group to celebrate her recent birthday. I was surprised at the insanity that hit me as I opened the door. It's kind of a senses overload and hard to take in everything on the walls; fun T-shirts galore, dog pictures, fiesta chotchkies everywhere. Adding to the chaos, they were already busy at 5:30 p.m. As I waited in the bar for my party to arrive, I was sold on a signature Margarita with Jalapeno infused tequila in a cocktail strainer equivalent to two drinks. I noticed people hovering around the tail end of a classic car and realized that they have a FREE nacho bar with chips, queso and beef set up from 4-7pm daily. It was quite the crowd-pleaser and depleted quickly, with servers hustling to keep it stocked. Once my group arrived we decided to enjoy the breeze on the patio and were quickly seated. The guacamole was tasty and the server kept us happy with assorted frozen libations as we chatted it up and celebrated. When it came time to order, I chose the Lite Plate, as it was easy fare consisting of a beef taco, guacamole & chile con queso. When in the area I always love to stop into Chuy's. For a chain restaurant it is very good Tex-Mex, and always over enjoy the jalapeño ranch! I enjoyed the Chicka-Chicka Boom Boom with double beans, no tortilla, and in a bowl. I love the combination. Rite now the menu is limited but has good options on it. I enjoy going during the week as during the weekends the wait can get pretty long. The Devore is fun, and the bar area is the best with walls covered with patrons dogs. Born and raised in California, lived near Austin Texas, which is where this chain started. Went to the one in Austin a couple of times. We went to this one MANY times. At least once a month, and often once a week. They had a great menu that was unique. The only place we could find with Anaheim peppers in a Relleno. SO good! We went a few days ago and the menu had changed once again. Ok, but they took the rellenos off the menu which is a MAJOR issue for us! Now they are no better than any other local Mexican place. The fact that they don't have draft beer was the only other minor issue I had with it. Wife loved the jalapeno ranch salsa. The chips were a tad on the thin side for me, but wife liked them. The fact that they are making flour tortillas onsite seems to be a secrete that only us long-timer's know? They are a little flour-y but still good. It would be nice if they were offered at the initial welcome. They used to have a long list of sauces you could choose from and now most of those are no longer on the menu. I loved their Tex-Mex Chili sauce. No longer on the menu. but the server said they still had it in the kitchen. No special dishes like 'Chili Verde' and I don't remember seeing Tamales on the menu? Like I said, I can get better for less in many cases. They just eliminated the reason they were better than other local Mexican restaurants in MY personal opinion, and fell below their menus. Man Chuy's, I've visited multiple, multiple times, both pre and post COVID. I reaaaallly wanted to like you and gave you multiple attempts. Alas, poor service and mediocre food just keep me from falling in love. Pervious to my most recent visit, I'd been frustrated by the inconsistent service and so-so food. Each time, I'd try to rationalize why things weren't 5 star (maybe they were down a few servers, maybe they didn't receive a food delivery and that's why they're out of several menu items). However, my most recent trip was the final straw in my leniency towards Chuy's. We were advised our wait would be 20-30 minutes...50 minutes later, we were seated at a dirty table. Our server immediately greeted us with "I have all but 1 table on this patio, so I'm really busy." My friend and I ordered two different drinks...we both got the same drink and my incorrect drink wasn't corrected until AFTER our entrées had arrived and my friend had received her second mojito, despite several promises from our server that her "manager was personally making your margarita right now." I ordered a ground beef enchilada...got lackluster chicken instead. I hate to say this, but I've given y'all plenty of chances and you just can't deliver. If loving free nachos is wrong I don't wanna be right. My sister in law always showed up to our summer family vacations past in a Chuy's TShirt and would sing the praises of this Tex Mex joint she frequented in Texas every time she was there. Then we got a Chuy's in Indy ... Cue the angels singing. Sure, it's a "chain". Sure, it's packed on the weekends and some week nights. Sure, there are plenty of other places to go. What draws us back again and again is the friendly staff and the personalized service. We usually sit at the bar and from our second visit Will and Ginny knew our drink order, our favorites, my strange food preparation requests, and even that my husband has a major allergy. Now within seconds of being seated our drinks are in front of us, the creamy jalapeño ranch dip (crack) has arrived, and we are catching up. Love it. Margaritas are on point and they will do a side car. Yummy tortillas made on site. Guac is super tasty. I love the Chuychanga... Modified of course. Hit Chuy's between 4pm and 7pm Monday through Friday for the free Nacho "car" in the bar. Bring in a framed picture of your dogs and get a free appetizer.
