Love Chuy's. Stopped in for lunch this afternoon, seated in the bar area and had the best server, Robyn. She was friendly, knew the menu and didn't hover but always seemed to know when to come around. The food was good but my three stars is NOT a reflection on her, she is a 5 star, Food was 4. BUT...3 star review is based on the water. Typically I ONLY drink water but the water at this location tastes incredibly contaminated, Robyn was quick to respond to my complaint and went to another section for water, also brought lemonade it was okay but still tasted off. Water is obviously so important as you're likely using it to cook as well. read more

Stopped here with family in town while visiting a local friend. The wait was less than 20 minutes on a Sunday of a holiday weekend. I've been to Chuy's before so I didn't need an introduction. The staff was nice and bought out all the different flavor sauces to try on a platter and explained what each one was for everyone to enjoy and try. It helped in the decision making process. The chips were flowing since we had a large group and were waiting on our food to come out. I ordered a Mexican Cobb salad like the majority of the group. The salad was fresh with chicken, avocado, tomatoes, extra green peppers and without cheese on mine. I decided on the cilantro vingerette and it was a perfect compliment to the salad. I sat at the bar to wait for my friends and was finally able to catch the bartender's eye, even though she tried her best to ignore me, and she said she would be right with me. Haha. Ten minutes later, after she had cleaned up the entire bar, put out new bottles of liquor, and helped other customers, she finally offered to bring me some chips and salsa. I said I would prefer a drink menu which she threw at me and left. She never returned to take my drink order and finally my friends arrived so I gave up. I suppose she was grateful that she got out of serving a customer. Once at our table, we waited 40 minutes before we even got a drink! This is unacceptable. If you don't have staff to wait on customers, I would prefer that you turn us away. We could have gone to one of several restaurants next door had we known. Don't just sit us at a table and ignore us. That isn't right. In addition, we were seated in the bar instead of the dining room and it was so loud and noisy that we could not have a conversation without shouting. There were many empty tables in the dining room and we attempted to request a change but could not find a hostess to assist us. Sorry, Chuy's, but I won't go back and be treated that way again. I asked for one of their salsas that was on the hottest side of the scale and they gave me what tasted like canned enchilada sauce bleh. Our server was.. odd. She came to introduce herself 3 times after she had given us our drinks with chips and salsa and she kept scratching her inner thigh in front of us not even trying to be discreet about it. I liked the Queso, and the chips were obviously freshly made, but they were thin and very, very salty. I ordered the steak fajitas and once thing I noticed was a lack of bell peppers in the mix, and the meat was not the quality that I would have liked. Service staff friendly and fast. Sunday 1/15/17 Ok, first, wipe down seats, they be nasty! Host, it is your job to make sure the seats and table of your guests are clean. If not, you clean them or inform the manager that the bus boy needs to get his ass in gear, okaaay? Second, our server Kassandra was on point today. She is small and friendly and deals with the busy environment very well. She is much better than some of the big gurls up in here with V8 engines but no octane. Of course, I come to Chuys for the food, they are still my boo. It was delicious today! Ok, so much relies on service especially when they have the D-list working on Sundays. Patti and Marisol are wonderful. Marisol only works weekdays and there is only one Patti, who works Sunday and weekdays. Chesley or Chelsea, whatever her name is, very bad hostess! She puts us in the bar and we sit there for 7+ mins with flies buzzing on the windows and no greeting or service. So I go to the hostess stand and tell her "hey, we can't get service in the bar so can we sit in the main dining room?" She replies, "ok sure," and does not acknowledge what I just told her! Already several tables have been seated after we arrived because she dumped us in the bar. Lately they have put the least animated and no-energy employees at the host stand. Change it up Chuys or next time it's going to be 1 star! Patti our server saved the day with her precise and on point service, she met all the cues and took what began as a bad experience into a good one. I've been to this location about half a dozen times now and here's my conclusion about this place: 1) They make the tortilla, sauces and margaritas (careful it has a kick) fresh in house so none of that store-bought crap. 2) Their FREE chips and salsa is bomb (I think it's better than Taqueria Data Point) since I prefer my chips ultra thin and crispy and the salsa to be just a little runny. 3) Their food is consistently delicious and fresh. I've had their burritos (which is nice and big), Chuychanga (omg the crispy fried shell around it and the green sauce make this dish, just get it!), Crispy fish tacos (my favorite dish here the fish is fresh and flakey and the breading is just perfect gold) everything here is a jumbo size but if you're super hungry, order the Elvis Green Chile Fried Chicken combo which is big enough to share for two and a good way to try the different sauces they make. 4) Service is always great. The manager (I forgot his name) took care of me above and beyond my expectations when my waiter disappeared on me (for Chuy's management team, if you're reading this I'm referring to dinner on 4/7/17 Table #46) he made a bad experience forgettable and I'm not discouraged to return. 5) They offer a free dipping station on their happy hour (4-7 pm I think) and typically I'll see the queso, refried beans, salsa and ground beef stuff (yummy!) 6) Yes, you'll get family with little ones here (what do you expect from a place with this price point? D'oh!) And at times I can imagine it to be a little crazy (though I've never experienced this, but I'm relating to other reviews) this place is a great value for a good quality, cheap and freshly cooked Tex-Mex. The rice and beans weren't all that impressive, but I'm notoriously pick when it comes to those staples (Grandma is the only one who does them right). Alright y'all so my experience is based on the awareness and mental preparedness that I was walking into a tex-mex restaurant. Had I not have known this key fact I'm sure I would've been quite disappointed. As long as you know what you're getting yourself into you'll have a grand time. The margaritas are made from scratch and have 100% fresh ingredients none of pre mix crap. I had the swirl and I was very pleased with the taste of them. They offer free chips and salsa so score! There is plenty of seating as the restaurant includes a dining area, bar, and an outside patio. Whatever type of feel you're going for they can accommodate. Apparently they offer free queso during happy hour, sadly I didn't make it on time for the offer. Such a bummer but that means I'll just have to swing by again. The prices are moderate and come with a decent amount of food. I must say that their tortillas are really really like ridiculously good tasting. (Who doesn't love a good Zoolander reference?) The fajitas were honestly surprisingly good. The one thing I do like about tex-mex places is how they make the rice. This place kept up the pace and offered it without onions. This is a good alternative if you're around the La Cantera area so give it a shot! read more

Addiction = Hatch Chile. I'm not sure, but I think one of the first steps to addiction recovery is admitting you have a problem. So I am admitting that I am hooked on Hatch Chile. I don't care if it is on burgers or in Mexican food. In this case, it was enchiladas. I was working in this part of town today and found myself near Chuy's at lunch. I have eaten at various Chuy's locations but had never been here. This one is similar layout to the other ones that I have been in. You wait in line, finally get seated, and the chips and salsa arrive. Of course, you have to ask for the ranch dip, to make the meal complete. I ordered the enchiladas my way, which means covered in Hatch Chile sauce. Today, the Chile sauce was about as spicy as I have ever had. When I need Kleenex, I know it's spicy. I don't know if Chuy's other food is any good or not as I always get the same thing. Next time, I am sure I will order the same thing. read more

We have been eating at Chuy's (281 & 1604) for years but it has been awhile since our last visit. Had dinner there last night with wife and granddaughter. First sign of change/issue was when we got seated immediately upon entering during prime time. We were used to having some wait due to typical crowd. Second sign of change was the menu. What happened? It has maybe a third of what they used to offer. VERY LIMITED! Next, the quality of the food has become ridiculously mediocre (at best). The Chuychanga was served with requested sauce on the plate under the food and in very limited quantity. The refried beans were close to inedible and noticeably so as neither my wife or granddaughter ate any of theirs as well. We had to request tortillas and more chips so I can't say much positive about the service either. All in all, this is extremely disappointing as CHUY'S used to be very enjoyable. read more

First time here and NEVER returning. It wasn't a problem with the food but the server we where assigned. My friend group and I came here after a long drive from Houston and just wanted to eat before returning home. A few minutes after we're done eating, one of my buddies gets up to use the restroom. while we're waiting on him our server comes back and says "just to let you know I get paid 2.50 an hour so if you can't afford a tip then don't eat out" in a demanding tone. As someone who works in customer service I can empathize with her but the attitude she took was unprofessional and extremely rude. Before this interaction we where considering leaving a 10 dollar tip IN CASH but decided otherwise after that. Upon arrival the hostess was extremely nice and welcoming, we told her it was our first time visiting and she mentioned sitting us with their best waitress! Boy, was she right! Our server was incredible she was knowledgeable, friendly and made the entire experience great. Prior to ordering there was complimentary chipsdelicious jalapeno ranch salsa and basic salsa! The Jalapeno ranch salsa was so yummy! Currently, they're celebrating the Green Chile Festival and had a special menu we decided to order our food from that menu! I ordered the Burrito En Fuego and my guest ordered the Green Chile Combo. The burrito was was great it was extremely spicy (so be warned) but it was so tasty also came with a generous serving of rice. The Green Chile Combo was a combo plate of one enchilada and one chicken Chile Relleno(stuffed green pepper) with rice and beans. The Enchilada was one of the best Tex-Mex meals I've had in my entire life and trust me I've had loads of them. The chile relleno was beyond spicy and we struggled to enjoy that. read more

I'll be honest, I live in San Antonio and very rarely go to Chuy's. In fact, the only reason I go is if my sister is in town from Seattle. So I go about once a year, but overall I've been several times. I think Chuy's is totally one of those places to take out of towners. This place has a very fun atmosphere. Our service was good, can't remember his name, but he was good. Just attentive enough, and overall we had no real problems....except my sister always buys shirts (their t-shirts can be hilarious) and the t-shirt selection wasn't that great. About the food...We had queso to start - very good. For my entree I had the Burrito en Fuego (hatch green chile special). WARNING: it was pretty damn spicy. My sister also had a dish off the hatch green chile special menu and couldn't finish it because of the spice. Overall, a good experience, but not more than about 3.5 stars. read more

I've only come for lunch so I can't speak for their dinner rush, but the food is usually ready pretty quick for lunch. I really enjoy their enchiladas. The burritos are good, but they seem to be too much tortilla. I usually end up just eating the inside and ignoring the tortilla. And their tres leches is incredible! Went back to Chuy's on a Sunday evening with a friend in search of chips and queso! The chips and queso didn't disappoint as usual. I also ordered the Chicken Tortilla Soup, which comes in a huge bowl. My bowl was not close to full, so I am not sure that I would call it "filling." I did eat some of it. It wasn't very flavorful as far as soups go. But it wasn't horrible. Our service was exceptional this time, though. Our server had a great sense of humor, was helpful for my friend ordering drinks and was cool enough to let us sit there and talk for a while. Overall, a much improved dining experience from last time. So, this time the food was bleh but the service was good. Still four stars--- because queso seems to bump up the score every time. read more
