I tried Torchy's Tacos for the first time today with my wife, and it was honestly one of the most disappointing taco experiences I've had in a long time. We ordered four different tacos and a burrito. At around $6 per taco, you'd expect something at least halfway decent. Instead, the food looked nothing like the pictures they advertise. What came out looked rushed and thrown together. The biggest issue was the temperature. Everything was cold. Not slightly warm -- actually cold. The tortillas were cold, the beans were cold, and the entire meal felt like it had been sitting out before it was served. When you're paying that much for tacos, the bare minimum should be that the food is at least hot. The tortillas themselves were also disappointing. They used those bland white flour tortillas that taste like they came straight out of a grocery store bag, with no flavor at all. If you're going to use tortillas like that, at least heat them properly. We were starving, so we forced ourselves to eat about half of the food, hoping it might get better. It didn't. The beans were nasty, the tacos lacked flavor, and eventually we just couldn't keep going. We ended up walking next door to Cava just to get the bad taste out of our mouths. The place itself looks nice and aesthetically pleasing, but good decor doesn't make up for bad food. I'd much rather eat at an old beat-up taco spot that actually serves hot, flavorful food than a polished restaurant putting out cold tacos. After this experience, I honestly understand why the Torchy's near my house on the far west side ended up closing. I just don't see people craving this place or choosing it when deciding where to eat. read more

My husband and I enjoy Torchy's! You order at the counter and they bring your food to you. My favorite tacos are the Mr.Orange, the grilled Baja shrimp, naughty Santa from the secret menu, and trailer park. My husband's favorites are the democrat, the republican, and the fajitas. The chips and queso are satisfying and the half portion is perfect for the two of us. We also enjoy the damn good tots. I like that they have a taco of the month. 1st time at Torchy's tacos and I left happy! I used the self kiosk bar to order which was easy to navigate and you are able to make modifications to your order. The store is clean and has helpful staff. I highly suggest using the app, my friend uses it and was able to get free chips and queso! Torchys is one of my favorite places to get tacos. They have the most flavor and always have excellent seasonal tacos. I've had over half the tacos on the menu at this point and really liked all of them. So excited this Texas chain is expanding. The queso and guac are also so good. This is my favorite Torchy's by far. The bartenders have always been super professional and friendly. The Hogfather and Scallywag have been my favorite specialty tacos. They have a monthly specialty taco that always changes so there's always new things to try. The tacos are very unique and have that Austin vibe (where they originally came from). Not the typical street tacos and such. But all kinds of unusual and delicious flavors. The Trailer park is a favorite saucy fried cheesy chicken taco with poblano, and I suggest making it trashy by adding their signature queso. The taco sizes are very generous. They have a full bar and my favorite signature drink so far has been Keeping it 100 (very smooth with that 100 proof Blanco tequila). The environment is very chill and great for all types of meet ups. I always have been treated like family here. This place is one you won't regret. read more

Torchy's food doesn't miss for me because I know what I like. But the service here from the bartender was pretty poor. I sat at the same time as another guest. Not bothered that she dropped menus and greeted them first - except she never greeted me just handed a menu. After getting their order she went to check in and existing guest and *almost* exited the bar without taking my order until I stopped her. She took my order from memory and I had to repeat it before she walked away so it's no surprise that I got flour tortillas instead of corn - at least the tacos were correct? It's just a preference and I was pressed for time so I just ate them. Food came and she never checked on me. At least the manager stopped by. She waited until I finished eating to check in and finally drop the check. Honestly, I had a small check because I didn't have the opportunity to order more drinks. I'd like to suggest removing the touch screen ordering system. These screens are unsanitary, and more importantly, they create the impression that staff no longer need to take customer orders. Today around 1 PM, we tried to have a simple, easy lunch. We stood waiting for several minutes, watched an employee come out of the kitchen, see us, and then disappear without returning. We eventually started to order on the screen, but at that point, we could have just ordered ahead or gone elsewhere. This shift in service--especially during non-peak periods--feels like a step away from the customer experience that made your business successful. We chose the green chile pork taco, shrimp taco without cheese, and chips with avocado dip. Hubby loved the pork taco. Shrimp taco had nice pieces of breaded plump shrimp, but I didn't care for the pickled onions. It overwhelmed the taco and I would have preferred sliced avocado instead. Like most places in the area, getting To Go is super easy and recommended. Plenty of seating in and outside though and free refills on drinks helps counter the big price. You won't be getting cheap prices but these aren't cheap tacos. And with the mountain of toppings and delicious sauces, you'll get a full meal without the longer time and bigger price of a sit down restaurant. Sat at the bar to watch the NBA Finals and have a good meal. It is a very relaxed, low key restaurant to come kick back and chill. The queso dip was amazing. Highly recommend with or without the chorizo. Wish the chips were a little thicker so they wouldn't continually break when trying to pick up the cheese, but still sooo good. My husband thought the chili wagon taco was more flavorful than the pork. He would order that again hands down. I enjoyed the chicken fajita in the bowl for less carbs and it was also quite flavorful. I added some queso on top and oh my was that yummy. The staff was attentive and personable. We went here for a work lunch and I am so glad we did. We sat outside and it was beautiful in the covered patio. Great ambiance and their play list was on point! What brought us in is the flashy lights and bright coloring...It's incising! The inside is very clean, well lit and appealing as well. I was surprised that the tacos are a La carte and kind of pricey but I was willing to try. The chips were just alright & (although we were told the salsa wasn't hot ) the salsa was too hot especially for our kids. Our tacos were adequate but nothing to write home about. Their service is fast and friendly as they dish out fast casual Tex-Mex foods. But the one thing that disappoints me is their corn tortillas. As their name-sake indicates, they are serving up tacos with fun names like the Brushfire (jamaican jerk chicken, grilled jalapenos, mango, sour cream, and cilantro with diablo sauce on a flour tortilla) or the Democrat (barbacoa, avocado, cotija cheese, cilantro, onions, and a lime wedge with tomatillo sauce on a corn tortilla). When you break it down, you have different protein fillings + different topping combos + a salsa that pairs well and is served on the side + corn or flour tortillas. The fillings have always been good as well as the salsas, but the corn tortillas have consistently been disappointing. They taste as if they have been taken straight out of the bag and not heated up at all. I'm a big fan of corn tortillas, but whenever I go back to Torchy's I make sure to stay away from the items that come in a corn tortilla. read more

The prices are about $4 something per taco. I also got to try their chips and queso appetizer. The queso is really good. The tacos were filled to the brim and all of the ingredients were fresh. The taco are standard size tortilla but they fill them enough that you get full and get your money's worth. I was really impressed with the food. The beef was seasoned well and the fried chicken in my other taco had a good crunch. The service was good also and they had a steady crowd the whole time we were there. I normally like their special option for the month but today it was like a bagel salmon like option which didn't sound enticing but I heard it was good. I'm a big fan of Torchy's wherever it is. Back in Houston we had them everywhere so I'm glad that there is a location near me now that I'm in San Antonio ! My favorites are the Trailer Park (trashy version), Brushfire, Crossroads, and Democrat. When my boyfriend and I stopped by about 2 weekends ago, we both got 2 Democrats, a Trailer Park, and a Chicken and Waffles one. I usually love their Queso but we opted out this time. The tacos were great as always, consistently good like their other locations. And I love that they pack their tacos full of meat and toppings. They don't skimp! I'm giving 4 stars because of 2 reasons. When I was hesitating between 2 tacos and asked the cashier guy which one he likes more, he told us he doesn't like any of Torchy's tacos.. Can't blame the guy for being honest but it was pretty unprofessional and kind of awkward. Also the wait time took foreverrr.
