I can't speak to dining in experience, only food quality. We went through the drive through and placed an order for 5 tacos and 2 drinks. $34 later, our food was mediocre and not worth it. The bean and chorizo is more of a runny bean mess. I couldn't tell you if it had chorizo in it or not. I had asked for it to be on corn (glad they got it wrong) and both were on a chewy flour tortilla. The bacon egg was on the dry side and tasted overcooked. Stopped in the morning to grab something to eat. Got a couple of breakfast tacos. Nothing too impress with flavor and presentation. Store about tortillas with food thrown in it doesn't make a good breakfast taco just makes a breakfast taco. Three breakfast tacos came out to 9:18 . So much for cheap fast breakfast tacos . We'll try something else next time people were friendly which gave it a three-star if the people were not this definitely would have been a one and a half star. Debatably the best chorizo and egg tacos and the waitress rocked, great service, and attentive. I have what some might consider a unhealthy obsession with their chorizo and egg tacos. I am not sure what it is about them but it just seems the chorizo and egg ratio is scientifically calculated to perfection. Or they just have some abuelita in the back that knows what she is doing. Prices are what you expect, decent for the amount of food. Their other breakfast tacos are also great. I had the lengua plate on one of my many excursions and it was pretty bland. They can't all be winners. Machacado is probably the best we've had and isn't over salted. Drinks are I good, sweet iced tea, soda cans, and some aguas frescas. Bathroom is small but clean, Softsoap on the counter, and plenty of paper towels. I also don't mind going through the drive thru. Totally worth the wait, depending on the cashier. Lastly, I do have to admit my last visit was disappointing as the tortillas were really tough, and the chorizo and egg weren't great. A disclaimer for travelers. This is one of many local places to eat Mexican food. This IS NOT a fancy chain with a fancy building or a generic menu. If you want Americanized Mexican food then you'll need to stick with the big chains that pump out Sysco. This is local style food and atmosphere. A three star rating means this place is worthy of your time and money. It's cheap and delicious. Stopped here for a late breakfast. Place wasn't terribly busy and was promptly allowed to pick a seat anywhere. My waitress was excellent and very attentive. I have a criteria for food establishments in San Antonio due to the saturation of places to get Mexican food. Price and taste which includes the quality of what you get. I'll say it again if you've not read my numerous reviews. If your charging more than $8 for a combo plate of Mexican food, you better make it good and plentiful. It better impress. Too many places here to be priced above that. Agave Grill does it right. The plates are reasonable priced and the food is good. Not great but good. I had a carne guisada breakfast plate with fresh homemade corn tortillas and ranchera sauce for $6. I also like to add a taco from the breakfast menu for see if they are worth the $1.60 The breakfast taco with chorizo and egg was big and filled completely. I was impressed. Agave is a nice little restaurant located across the street from the post office on Broadway. The food is really good and consistent. You're not going to find any fancy plates or frilly dishes here. What you will find is good taqueria style Mexican food. Comforting, tasty and consistent. While I would say that the food is 3 stars, I give this place 4 because the service is always friendly and they are on top of things. read more

I tried this little place on Broadway one day and got some menudo. I found the soup very delicious and it was packed with the good tripe, the honeycomb. The tortillas were homemade and very good. I will try the taco soon to check the quality of the beef and the pork. read more

We came here on Saturday during lunch. They had a lot of seating and were not busy. There's a tv near the bathrooms and what looks like separated dining. Our waiter came to take our drink orders and we ordered water all around. He only brought two, one for me and my husband even though we had our little ones with us. I ordered their breakfast with a country omelette, beans and tater tots. It came with a warm tortilla on the side. My husband got the rib eye steak with eggs and tortilla. The waiter never asked him how he wanted his steak so it came out over cooked. Their breakfast portions are big and filling. There was only one waiter serving the entire restaurant with two helping him bring food out. The prices are reasonable and food was okay. Inside, the atmosphere is largely overpowered by cheap mailbox numbering stickers marking every table, which I suspect would be more useful for conducting drive-by's than for use by waitstaff. You'll find the food to be generally uninspired, even for Tex Mex. A strange roasted salsa that tasted of canned tomato sauce was provided with a bowl of melted Velveeta as a starter - great!? While our proteins were respectfully prepared (including the refried beans), they still weren't particularly memorable. Basically every item on the menu includes a picture, I presume so that you may gauge the quantity of cheese, refried beans and rice you will be receiving (or french fries, as the case may be). On the up side, they have Mexican Coke, the bathroom sinks are unexpectedly fancy and Las Palapas is right around the corner. read more

If I could leave a zero star review I would. Food was bland, our drinks came with literally no ice, and we were severely overcharged for everything. The plates were more expensive that what the menu said. My coworker and I both got migas that came with no cheese so we asked for cheese. They were really rude in the drive thru because I asked them for two orders which they said they could do and when I went to the window, since they have such an old register they had to re-ring and she seemed like it was the most inconvenienced that she has ever been! I'm always on the hunt for breakfast tacos. Always... Last Wednesday fit this bill and when I needed to meet up with someone to talk about work and things, we decided to give Agave a shot. I had never been before this visit. It's located off Broadway and has a pretty ample amount of parking. Walk inside to a decent sized restaurant that feels like it was once a fast food joint converted into a Mexican spot (which I might assume is the actually the case here but I didn't ask). The hostess was very polite and got us immediately to our table. It was pretty early and we were just about the only people there. I had coffee and migas and my friend had water and a taco. We both paid under $5 for our portion of the meal. It was a lot of food for not a lot of money, which is great. Now as for the flavor. It was definitely good. I just wasn't blown away. I'd for sure go back if I was in the area and needed a quick and cheap breakfast, but it just also was fairly average to me. That said, I have heard that their dinners are very tasty and they had rotating drink specials posted that look very enticing. I have never had bad food here. My family and I live right down the street and it is rare for us not to go at least once or twice a week. Their breakfast tacos are amazing. I have lived in San Antonio my entire life and these are the best breakfast tacos I have ever had. I have come here many times with my family and even friends that I have recommended it to.
