The incompetence is most irritatin, what's the point of having a "carry out" as an option if you can't order what you want? Why do you have a system that can't make food modification? Whats the point in having a call service to take your order if they can't make the simple modification of extra chicken? The service at Torchy's is failing because it's unable to provide these request and it's a known problem that hasn't been fixed. At store service is decent but the all around lack of flexibility, poor ordering infrastructure, and inability to accommodate simple customer requests makes the entire experience unnecessarily frustrating. This isn't a one-time issue--it's a recurring problem that management appears aware of but has chosen not to address. For a restaurant that charges premium prices, customers should be able to make basic modifications to their orders without jumping through hoops. read more

Love the food here every time we visit. The queso is always delicious and have been working through the menu for years. While food was still delicious today, the sewer smell inside was so off-putting we HAD to sit outside if we were going to get away from the smell. Serious plumbing issues that clearly is not a last minute problem, as there is no way this smell could have been so strong from a single event. Come on Torchy's! I didn't have the best luck here. If I weren't celiac, I bet this would have been a fine place to be. In general I'd seen that Torchys have been celiac friendly so we gave it a try. We had a long wait but it was a busy understaffed Friday night, so the wait was anticipated. When we got to the front of the line the girl taking orders wasn't sure what items were gluten free so she got a manager. We waited a bit which would have been worth it if he were able to walk us thru the menu but when he got to the front he just flatly said "what's the problem". He appeared very bothered. I always acknowledge its privilege to be able to eat out still but I just felt such a huge inconvenience to him that I ordered two tacos of the only thing he told me was gluten free. Say what you will about this chain but we had a great experience at this location. The woman who took our order at the counter was very patient and kind enough to help us figure out the app. We ordered potato and egg breakfast tacos, the Baja shrimp taco (ask to sub grilled shrimp) and the chicken fajita taco. We also had a coupon for a free half size queso and chips. The food came out quickly and the place was very clean. Tasted great! I'd get the chorizo egg all day on corn tortilla though. I think the menu changed and they don't have the various hot sauces anymore. We had sangria, tasted great and not too sweet! The tacos are quite large so you'll be stuffed. The chips and dips were decent, got a variety. Lastly we went and there was a trainee at the register, that was quite painful. I went in to pick up a door dash delivery order. Even though it was 7:30 on a Sat night, the restaurant was only about half full (not very busy). When the cashier up front finished with the customera in front of her, I gave her the name of the door dash order, she went back to check and said it waSbf ready yet but would be soon. About 5 minutes later she went to check a second time and came back and asked me a couple of questions that seem to imply that the order was not back there. Long story short the snowballed into an incredibly unpleasant experience, in which I will admit I was getting increasingly angry and frustrated, but at the end of the day it started with the cash you're being incredibly rude to me at least twice. It took me asking for a manager about 25 minutes after my order was supposed to be ready to find out that the order was apparently picked up by somebody else before I got there? Hard to say what the truth really was. All I know is I have been trying to find out if the order was actually back there being worked on since the time that I arrived and instead of anyone being helpful about it all everybody kept doing was going back and telling me that it wasn't ready yet. Complete waste of time, that did not affect the restaurant or the employees that work there is bottom line one bit, but greatly affects my money and my ratings and my timeliness for doordash. So I understand that it was not that big of a deal to them but it was a big deal to me that never needed to reach that point. The manager that I asked for that came out later made it seem as though the employee went and got the manager when she realized the order wasn't there but that is not how things went down one bit. After I finally got the delivery order and delivered that order and the second order that I was supposed to be delivering I called the restaurant back to speak to the manager because I was a bit calmer and wanted to try to explain a little clearer why I was so upset. Instead of hearing me out and letting me finish she cut me off and then proceeded to tell me that three other guest said that I was the one being rude. Wouldn't surprise me if some of the guests there did say that because I'm sure they only started paying attention once I started getting more frustrated and loud. If they really wanted to know from the get-go what happened if there are cameras there I welcome them to go back and watch and listen to the video from the beginning. That would give him more accurate representation of how things transpired. There was another gentleman there that had ordered $500 worth of food that had showed up a little later than the pickup time because he thought it would be nice to give them a little extra time and his order wasn't ready yet either another employee of theirs that went back to check pretty much just came back out and said it's not ready and when we asked how long he said I'm not sure. Just to give you an idea of what kind of service was going down that evening. If that restaurant would like to contact that gentleman he was there when I was trying to get someone else to go and make sure the order was actually back in the kitchen and he heard the female employee who was rude to be cut into the conversation and cut me off from what I was trying to ask that other person to do. He can vouch for the fact that that person was rude to me and to be honest the only reason I started being that way was because of the lack of customer service I was getting from the rude employee. Once again if there is any kind of video of the incident starting from 7:30 p.m. Saturday November 15th I welcome you to go back and review it. If there is no audio at the very least you can see that the female employee went back to the kitchen three separate times to check on my order yet somehow did not know that the order was not there and the male employee that went back to check the one who wasn't sure how long it was going to be that didn't occur to him to go ask someone and find out he went back to check the orders at least three separate times as well without realizing that my order was not back there. I can't imagine anyone not being upset by that situation. I guarantee you that if I had been the customer who actually ordered and paid for it and not the delivery driver who was simply picking it up the way I was treated and talk to you would have been different. Based on that alone I would not recommend this place to anyone. This particular location has decent ratings but if you go and look at the corporate office rating for torchy's tacos you will see that a lot of people have similar issues with delivery orders and to go orders and rude staff. Proceed at your own risk. I can say without a doubt that based on the totally dismissive way that I was treated I would never dine there & would not recommend to family or friends. read more

Not only did it take 15 minutes to order ( because it deleted our order multiple times while buffering to pay) there was no one to help the situation. So I never really come to torchys because personally I don't care for their food. I feel like since this place is "trendy" it's overpriced for what you get. When taking my order the guy at the register was on his phone and I had to wait until he was done doing whatever he was doing on his phone. I like Torchy's but it wouldn't be my first pick, nor would I go out of my way to go there. The staff is fantastic, it's very clean, fun vibe. However, the food is mediocre at best. I enjoyed my shrimp tacos, churros, and margherita. I wanted to taste a few options, so I also got the beef tacos. It's the beef taco that killed it for me. With how they listed it, this taco should have been symphony of flavor but it was full of grease instead. None of the seasoning or sauce had flavor. I ate the taco, not wasting my money on tossing it, but I just couldn't get over the grease and how much fatty bits were left in there. The part of the meal that sparked the most joy for me was the churros and margherita. I'd go back for that and skip any other food. We're Done for Now We've been a loyal customer at the Stone Oak location for years, but the last three visits have been downright frustrating, and it's clear something's off in the kitchen and operations. Stone cold--fillings lukewarm at best, tortillas are unappetizing, like they've been sitting under a heat lamp too long... or not long enough. On my most recent visit (December 26, right after Christmas), we sent the cold tacos back hoping for fresh ones. Nope--the replacements were just as chilly. It's baffling how this keeps happening. Speaking of that post-holiday chaos: We waited over 30 minutes for our food. It felt like management completely underestimated the rush after Christmas, leaving staff scrambling and customers hanging. To top it off, the ordering kiosks are a nightmare--clunky, confusing, and slower than dealing with a real person. They're supposed to streamline things, but they just add frustration and kill the vibe. Sadly, after these repeated misses, we won't be back to this location anytime soon. Management, it's time to tighten up--train the team on basics like hot food staying hot, prep for busy periods, and ditch those unfriendly kiosks. I visited the Sonterra location for a quick bite. I veered away from two of my favorites, the Democrat and the Trailer Park "Trashy." I chose the Tipsy Chick, which includes marinated, grilled chicken, spinach, grilled corn, green chiles, cheddar jack cheese with chipotle sauce. It was accompanied by a sweet, smoky, bacon bourbon marmalade. Everything is better with bacon, right? The other taco tried was the Crossroads taco. This taste of deliciousness includes smoked beef brisket. We are in Texas, and are known for loving our brisket. It also included avocado, jalapeños, grilled onions, a tomatillos sauce and the finishing touch of cilantro. It comes on a corn tortilla, but I opted for flour. All of the ingredients are made freshly made daily, and you can taste the difference at Torchy's. They offer a variety of refreshing cocktails, beer, fresh squeezed margaritas, and the requisite soft drinks and teas. Join the Taco Junkies rewards club? I will never quite understand the hype of Torchy's Tacos. Having been multiple times and trying now six different tacos from the menu, I have not once tried something I feel was worth returning for. I only ended up back at this location for a fundraiser and was just as disappointed as before with the fo sho and the shrimp taco. Torchy's throws way too many unnecessary ingredients into its tacos which leads to a hefty price for something that falls flat. I get there are lots of Torchy's fans out there, but I think the word "taco" is stretched and these people are looking for something that doesn't quite fit that definition. I will say, the drinks are strong and the staff at this location were all fantastic. Not only that, but everyone else in my party enjoyed their meals which is why I give it three stars, as I can't knock it based solely on my own taste preferences. If you are looking for something authentic, go pretty much anywhere else in San Antonio. That's why I usually get the beef fajita tacos and queso & chips. Today was no exception, and the food was excellent. Two of these bad boys, and I am stuffed. Now days, with the pandemic, good help is hard to find. I have always found the employees in this location to be very helpful and quite friendly. They also do a great job of keeping our chip bowl full so that we can enjoy every bite of the wonderful queso. The only thing that keeps this from being a 5 star review is entrance and exit to the parking lot. There are a lot of race cars getting off or on the loop not far from the entrance to the restaurant. I visited Torchys on Nov 15, 2024. I like Torchys even though I'm not a huge fan of Mexican food. I like the unique flavors and combinations they provide which are different than traditional Mexican food. I love the Mr Orange salmon taco and the shrimp taco. I find one to two tacos to be quite filling so when people say they are pricy, I disagree. You can get in and out for under $15 easily. On this visit I was treating my friend and wanted to protect my pockets. I was happy to see they had drink specials until 6 pm. We were in line at 5:55, so perfect right? By the time the cashier helped the people in front of us and passed out a to go order it was exactly 6. I asked if we could get the happy hour drink price but....denied I'm usually not a Karen about little stuff like that but we were in line and it was 6 on the dot according to all Apple devices lol. So I ordered water and my friend got a soda. Just on principle not price. The regular prices are fine but I was geeked about happy hour. I guess the cashier saw how disappointed we were because she gave us a coupon for next time. I didn't make a fuss because we were there for girl time. Maybe the system doesn't allow for the special price once it hits 6? I don't know but it was a bummer. Normally I'd give them 4 stars because the food was still good. Next you walk up to a typical stone oak'er vale verga cashier who cant focus on more than three words at a time and will totally F up your order.
