Everything could be improved. Let's start with the attitude of the hostess: she was extremely rude to my husband. She was staring at him weirdly and he had just gotten off work from the graveyard shift. That threw my husband off for the whole morning. She treated him like someone who is lower than. Nice little cafe on the corner of Austin Highway and I didn't get the name of the other street but it's on the corner. The inside is cute looks like it was made in the 80s. Service was OK could've been better. We didn't have to wait too long before the waitress take our order. She was great in the beginning but when we needed a refill she took a while to notice us. All in all it was ok not too bad. The food was good, nothing spectacular. My bean & cheese was the best taco. This place is legit! It's a Mexican food restaurant in a diner type setting. Great breakfast items and plenty of lunch specials to choose from. The price point for breakfast plates is perfect. They have at least four different styles of chilaquiles plates to choose from. I had the Chilaquiles Rancheros for $6.99. It came out of the kitchen piping hot, topped with pico de gallo, ranchera sauce, and cheese. The eggs were perfectly cooked and the tortilla chips were still crispy - not soggy like you find at some places. For $6.99, it included refried beans and potatoes. The taters were good, but the beans could use just a little work - they are just a bit on the runny side. The ham omelet, smothered with cheese, includes 2 pancakes OR beans and potatoes for $7.99. Thousand Oaks Café on Austin Hwy has never disappointed us! You definitely get the ambiance of an old-school diner inside the restaurant, and the friendly staff provides good service. I ordered the huevos rancheros plate with sausage, they are one of the few places that actually offer sausage patties so I was pleased with that. Everything was very tasty especially the ranchero sauce because it's actually spicy and seasoned very well. My husband got the chorizo and egg plate which I was surprisingly impressed with. I've noticed here in Texas that a lot of Mexican restaurants use a chorizo that has a gamey or vinegary taste and this one does not. The tortillas are fantastic and the coffee is excellent. After having gone to Thousand Oak Cafe II two days in a row I feel like I can write this review. I am just over the moon about their Chilaquiles Verdes (~$5), featuring tortilla chips, egg, chicken topped with tomatillo sauce and white cheese. The restaurant has a fantastic green hot sauce and I basically use a whole bottle to douse my dish. The complimentary (with this dish) homemade tortillas are perfect. Highly recommend! The location is not convenient and consequently neither is the parking. The establishment is slightly run down, as are the seats and restrooms. The hours only run until early afternoon. But for how cheap the food is (military discount yay), I'd come back over and over again! read more

Very reasonably priced and has quickly become one of my favorite breakfast spots in town. You seat yourself and it can get very busy (especially on Saturday mornings), but it never takes too long for a table to become available. It's definitely worth the wait. Thousand Oaks Cafe (TOC) occupies the shell of an old Jim's, and the diner vibe sets this Tex-Mex establishment apart from the rest! My husband and I grabbed a booth, and the first thing that struck us was how amazingly cool it was inside. Between you and me, I kinda want to camp out there the rest of the summer (or at least until 3:00 PM when they close) to escape the oppressive South Texas heat! Because TOC was a former diner, there's ample seating. I don't think I've ever had to wait (at least not for long) for a table, even though the restaurant gets pretty packed. Based on my experiences, the service has been great! To be clear, great service to me is a steady flow of refills. But the employees are polite and efficient too, so there's that. I typically order bean & cheese tacos at any Tex-Mex restaurant, and today's were very tasty (the flour tortillas are homemade, so they don't have that gross synthetic taste you get from the store-bought variety). My husband got a barbacoa taco and the migas with chorizo, which are served with a side of potatoes and refried beans. He enjoyed his meal; I mean, his plate(s) were empty at the end of our visit--if that's any indication. If it isn't, I did get verbal confirmation from him just now. I always tip over 20%. I sometimes bring the staff doughnuts in the morning. I am friendly with everyone and they are friendly with me. Except the owner. She is beyond petty, as evidenced by the double coffee charge. She once sat directly next to me in an uncrowded restaurant during COVID, which I can only assume was to 'intimidate' me. This is a blue-collar Tex Mex eatery. The place is usually packed at breakfast. The Migas were bland, just eggs, cheese, and chips cooked in veggie oil. The fried potatoes were greasy and tasted like lard. The corn tortillas were mostly flour and partially cooked. The Chorizo dish had eggs, onions, jalapenos, with a sprinkling of salsa verde. The eggs were half fried and half scrambled and very dicey. The food is cooked quickly as they have plenty of servers here. This is not a quality food place. read more

The bean and cheese taco was okay. There weren't any complimentary chips and salsa but that didn't bother me. My main dish and the speed of service were reasons for the five stars.
