Mediocre Mexican restaurant in Sterling. Went once to try and have no plans to be back.

Last night was my second time visiting this Chuys location -I attended their Yelp Perk Soft opening event. If you go to something like that and then make a return visit, you may be a little disappointed. This time I arrived around 6:30 and it was literally a swarm of people waiting around the door and entryway to be seated once their table was ready. I made my way through and found a seat in the bar area. Then the waiting game began. The bar was slammed and the main bartender literally was a magician -fixing what seemed like hundreds of drinks in the 10 minutes before he greeted me and asked me if I would like a beverage. I ordered a house margarita with a sugar rim. It was really good, very refreshing but I knew it would probably be my only drink for another 20-30 mins based on his ongoing drink orders from the waitresses and other bar patrons . I finally was able to order my food another 20 mins later-the woman and her friends beside me tried to obtain his attention and the other two Bar assistants for a full 15 minutes and were finally successful. Once I ordered, my Queso Compuesto came fairly quickly and was served with warm tortilla chips! That made me smile lol! My food took a little while but that wasn't a shocker considering the crowds. I can't say anything negative about the food or drinks because that is what makes this place so popular, but I must advise anyone who considers themselves starving and "hangry" to come here during lunch or maybe on a slower week night -if not just be aware that you'll be at Chuy's for quite sometime! read more

Been visiting this Chuy's location since 3years now, Do ask for their creamy Jalapeño sauce along with chips, Enchiladas and fajitas are the best here. Signature Boom Boom sauce is a must try..! read more

Host staff completely ignored us for fifteen minutes standing at the host stand. Then sat another group as soon as they walked ignoring us. No one greeted us even with five different staff members passing. So rude. read more

Chuy's lived up to the hype that was given. The ambience was pleasant and our waiter, Taylor, was a great waitress.

We had an outstanding dinner at Chuy's on Sat June 1. Knowing that it is just part of a chain of American style Tex-Mex restaurants, our expectations were not too high. So it was a very pleasant surprise to have a delicious dinner with excellent service in very pleasant surroundings. We ate out on their patio which was quite busy. Our server was attentive even though we were outside. The food was very good. We had tacos al carbon which were fresh with perfectly grilled meat and fresh condiments including tomatoes, guacamole and cheese. The complimentary salsa with chips was also excellent. We will definitely be going back. Far superior to places like Uncle Julio's, Anita's and On the Border. read more

My husband and I have been coming to Chuy's for years now! The service is always good and the food is always fresh. Today was the first time we did their outdoor dining and it was beautiful. He loves the steak fajitas as they are fresh and a large portion. I go between the delicious chuychanga or the Baja fish tacos. And the house margaritas are strong! read more

My friends and I were asked to leave BarTaco for having our dog outdoors with us after having told the host that we had a pup with us. We call Chuy's and they were more then accommodating for us, brought us chips and salsa while we waited, not to mention the drinks were fantastic! Vinny is hands down the best server I have ever had, he went above and beyond to make sure that we were content! He brought our pup some chicken and rice out of the kindness of his heart. I would be remiss to not review Chuy's after recently attending their Grand Opening Fiesta Celebration. The welcome into the restaurant was fantastic... Greeted by the entire wait staff immediately and treated like a real celebrity. Everyone was really friendly and we were offered chips and free guac on the spot before even shown to our seats I was really glad we chose to sit outside on the patio. Inside was kind of hectic- loud, busy and lots and lots of servers flying around. Much easier to talk outside. Plus- They have cute string lighting and I made a mental note to come back here when its nice weather when I want to go to a fun place to eat outside. I got the fajitas and two margaritas as well as a huge, tres leche slice of cake with fresh strawberries and plenty of guac, salsa and chips. It was so awesome that any meal was complimentary on the house, we were impressed with the quality and portions of the food regardless. We were totally stuffed! The main thing that definitely had room for improvement was the service. Our waiter, a Mexican guy- cant remember his name- (sorry) was terribly incompetent but we went easy on him since it was opening night. While apologetic, he forgot various things and then forgot my drink order, which then got served to another table accidentally. When I mentioned it to him, it then took about another 15-20 min to receive the margarita I had ordered. Instead, he brought the bill and kept eyeing it instead of giving us decent service which gave us the impression he was in a hurry to leave or something? While drinking, he then started clearing the table and took away our waters without even asking. As a former waiter, this is certainly a faux pas. Then I had to ask him to bring us more waters, and he only brought out one glass instead of two. First time and last time. Service was good and chip were thin but good, salsa tasted fresh but bland the tomatoes were bitter in the salsa. Food was very bland no taste. Husband ordered a burrito, shell had no taste the chicken had no seasoning and the rice had no flavor. Wife had veggie burrito was covered with a red sauce that had no flavor the shell was soft mushy and there were only very few slice steamed veggies in it I saw a piece of an onion the beans were bland. I really love the atmosphere at Chuy's. I had been to the Annapolis location several years ago and had remembered how cool I thought the decor was. When I saw that one had opened in Sterling, I definitely wanted to go and eat there again. Just like the other location, the venue is so fun and well decorated. I love that the servers get to pick their own quirky t-shirts because I get to see all the funny ones that are available. I definitely want to pick one up sometime. As for the food, it was good but not outstanding. The chips and salsa that were brought back out were good but extremely spicy. I don't mind spice, myself, but it definitely had quite a kick. The burrito I ordered was good but kind of dry. The chicken and vegetables inside were good, but the rice and beans weren't very flavorful. Overall, even though I wasn't super impressed with the food, I'll definitely come back to Chuy's. The atmosphere there is unlike any other restaurant and it's definitely worth a try. read more

Highly recommended!!!!! I was born in Mexico but lived her in the USA. But raised on 100% Mexican food. Tex Mex (Chuys) is by far the best I've had. I've been to many Mexican restaurant and many have failed my taste test and drink tests. BUT!!!!!!! Tex Mex has taken my number one spot!!!! Their different selections in sauce are just amazing. I really wanted to fall in love with this place - but in my humble opinion they opened prematurely. Came in at approximately 7pm on a Monday night - was seated rather promptly but thats about when things went downhill. The staff seemed completely unready for the night ahead - let me provide some concrete examples: --over 25 minutes just to get waters - attitude when we asked if we could get waters. --35 minutes to get first round of drinks - blamed on bar being "backed up" - yeah those Monday nights are a real killer --This is not a typo or exaggeration one hour 30 minutes between sit down and delivery of food. --Waitress did not know menu - could not answer any questions --Salsa "flight" came completely cold and congealed --Half the meals came cold --Waitress was no where to be found for 25/30 mins at a time --Water unrefilled for over an hour --Ordered guac, got queso didn't have the energy to try to deal with it --our food left in hallway while other customers coughed as they walked on by it barely able to squeeze thru --asked to watch out because they were placing another tables food basically in our chair while they were served - tray left there for over a half hour. Couple positives - the food was OK - nothing to do cartwheels over - the employees were generally nice but again seemed COMPLETELY overwhelmed. One employee named Darcy seemed to hold the entire operation together by a thread - thumbs up to her. Overall place was a train wreak - overhyped and overwhelmed. Pass on this joke. read more

Came here for lunch today for the first time. The strawberry magarehita was just right and the chuychanga was super filing. Salsa was a little to watery but not awful. Definitely like the restaurant's design as well! It's a fun casual place. read more

I recently came here for the first time about two weeks ago with a friend of mine. I really like Tex-Mex style food and was excited to venture out to this restaurant. I highly recommend this place! The staff is polite, attentive and welcoming. There is a cool, fun and inviting vibe that complements the salmon colored floors, somewhat modern décor and array of drawings and photos hanging on the walls. Not only is the food flavorful, the portions and prices are reasonable. The menu contains variety, so there's something for everyone. I absolutely recommend the creamy jalapeño sauce to go with the tortilla chips and entrées. read more

We are regulars here for the following reasons: 1) the service is always super friendly 2) the food, no matter what you order, is great 3) not only is the food great, but it's a great value and reasonably priced, 4) the FREE happy hour NACHO BAR! Come M-F from 4-7pm for the feee nacho bar and happy hour priced drinks. read more

This wasn't my first time at a Chuy's, I usually frequent the Fairfax location which I love. This Chuy's was just as good. The salsa and chips are beyond and their margaritas are very good. On this visit, I had the chalupa and chicken enchilada combo which came with refried beans and rice. All was delicious. Another favorite is the chicken flatuas. Chuys is a pretty good restaurant and I personally am a fan of their food and service. There wasn't a wait which was nice and their chips and salsa where very delicious today. I got fajitas which were nice and the rest of the people I had came with got Enchiladas and Taco salads. All of us enjoyed our meals and our server was very nice. If ur looking for some pretty good Mexican food for a decent price this is for sure a good choice read more

Food is great and I love the free nacho bar during happy hour. Reading other reviews, I was surprised to see that others have gotten sauce samplings. I have never had a server even explain to me anything about the sauces you can add on. Come to think of it, I've never had a server there explain or recommend anything on the menu. read more

I want to like Chuy's. Really, honestly. But I can't love it. D.C. has very little good Mexican good period and no good Tex Mex. I'd give the decor--a sort of fifties retro diner vibe--pretty high marks. The area where they make tortillas fresh, from scratch, sits right in the middle of the main dining room. Cool. The place is also clean. We were seated quickly on a Thursday evening. Food and service are, well, okay. Drinks were refilled slowly and sometimes not at all and the Fajitas we ordered had fresh ingredients but were indifferently seasoned. Would I try it again? Yeah. Went to Chuys for the 3rd time since they opened. First 2 times everything was good. Enjoyed the enchiladas and the fajitas. Liked the fresh tortillas, the different sauces, and the nacho bar. Would have given a solid 3-4 stars, however, on our last visit for lunch we ask to sit outside on the patio and the hostess tells us to wait as they clean up a table for 6. We see them cleaning out table and wait a few minutes. We look outside again and then see a family of 4 that was already seated at another table in the partial sun move over and take our table without talking to their server or mgmt. My wife goes outside and complains to the hostess. Hostess grabs the Mgr and he proceeds to tell us he can't do anything! They say they cam give us another table that is in the sun. Not sure what kind of establishment is being run when mgmt allows customers to just move to any table they want. There has to be some type of control by Mgmt to prevent this. We proceed to leave and go eat elsewhere. Very disappointed...not sure we'll be back....good food but poor Mgmt. read more

I have visited this location several times. The Margaritas are really good. My favorite meal is the large ground beef burrito with the Tex mex sauce. The staff is always very friendly. My favorite waitress is Dania. She is always friendly and has a warm and welcoming smile. She is very efficient but always makes me feel welcome. This place is good for tex mex and the service, particularly from Josey, is great. So friendly and attentive. The complimentary chips and salsa are sooooo good, light crisp freshly fried chips with a nice fresh tomato limey salsa. I recommend the special nachos (ask for some sour cream to go with it if you are want to be a fatty like I do) and the Elvis fried chicken, they are so tasty and you will get so full. The desserts are ok here, but the tres leches wasn't wet and soaked like one would expect. read more

We went opening week. Can you say chaos?? The wait time was short 10 minutes. They had a ton of staff on site and yes it was very busy. We've never been to a Chuy's before. I know the staff may be new to serving but they just didn't have common sense - refilling drinks, bringing our check and cashing us out before taking 3 other tables orders and serving their drinks, messing up my husband's order. It was a bit annoying and thank gosh our toddler was okay with a 2 hour dinner. The food was delicious though, incredible quality. I was impressed. Just for that I'd go back once this restaurant has been opened a little longer. read more

Went here for a happy hour on a busy Friday night! I never knew about the unlimited nacho trunk bar!! Our server Alaina was kept very busy all evening but was still super attentive to our table. Everyone in my group wanted to make sure this review reflected the amazing service we got from Alaina. Will definitely come here again and order more from the menu! read more
