We've been a few times. Service was good not great. Food was spotty. Oysters, calamari and mussels were good for appetizers- meatballs were disappointing just bland. Salads were pretty disappointing for a house salad lettuce w two olives and two cherry tomatoes and a couple of red onion rings. For mains, halibut special was ok- the lump crab was not in a lump- it was incorporated. Wasn't a fan. Veal Milanese was awful. Overcooked veal which was essentially inedible- and the same poor house salad dumped on top. Chicken limone was good - asked for vegetables instead of pasta - arrived with pasta. Lucky I'm not gluten free. Server remedied that mistake. Veal limone was a tiny portion- not cooked poorly but about half the meat serving of the chicken. Penne vodka and chicken parm were good and issue free. When you spend that much on a dinner - you expect better. read more

Just ate here a few days ago. The food and service were both wonderful! We enjoyed the ambiance which is describe as old school yet chic and the place was definitely packed, but I think that we'd request being seated in a different location, not near where they stored the extra chairs and tables. My husband's side of the booth got bumped repeatedly during our meal as they took pieces in and out from behind our booth. We enjoyed the soup (tomato) and the salad options with our meals and my husband had fish and I had the chef's special pasta. Both of our meals were delicious. A really great meal. We stopped by on Tuesday for dinner without reservations. Only had to wait a few moments for a table. Our sons really loved their penne alla vodka. My Lobster Ravioli was fantastic and my husband enjoyed his dish as well. The drinks were strong. The bread came with a pesto oil. Had to be careful keeping it away from our peanut allergy child though, but they brought butter for him to use. I would have given 5 stars, but our server wasn't as attentive as we would have hoped for. Wasn't anywhere to be seen for quite some time when we were looking to have a 2nd drink and then again when it was time to ask for the check. We stopped in for a nice meal after a day of helping family with projects and such. We were exhausted and hungry and when we arrived we were immediately taken to our table and our waiter came by mentioned some dishes special to the evening and said he'd get us waters and be right back. He handled our entire meal so easily and smoothly that we truly enjoyed the meal as we relaxed after such a day. It was a treat. The food was spot on with amazing flavors and lovely presentation. This is a cozy place that is welcoming and romantic. We also enjoyed some great cocktails and a dessert. My wife had the pistachio martini as I recall. The drink had a chocolate rim with crushed pistachio on that. It was amazing. I enjoyed the blood orange Negroni, so much so I had to have a second one. We thoroughly enjoyed the time at Ciao and the way the staff worked so well to make our meal special. It was an excellent way to end our day. We'll be back next time we're in Myrtle Beach. read more

Ciao represents September in my 2024 photo series. Even though my girlfriend & I had Umberto's at Barefoot Landing, just 2 days earlier on Sunday, we along with the group opted for Ciao on Tuesday, September 3. We were busy enjoying the beach & pool at nearby Dune's on our last day in Myrtle Beach before leaving Wednesday morning. I realized the place someone had recommended on the beach was closed on Tuesdays or had limited hours. So, we were doing research, and it was kind of an ordeal figuring out what we were eating as people had different opinions. I saw this online, and it seemed like it was super expensive, but upon further investigation of the menu, it was moderate pricing and comparable to other Italian in the area. I was hangry because it took a long time to figure out what we were doing, and it was after 8 PM by the time decision was made (granted we had been busy in water until like 7:15). We opted on Ciao and decided to walk from Dune's since it was so close instead of cramming into a car or two cars and losing the decent parking spaces people had in the Dune's garage. Walking was nice on that temperate night, but the bad part was crossing the busy 6-lane US 17 Business, with no lights to cross at or even a crosswalk, with people zooming by at 50 mph or even more. So, we made a run for it when the coast was clear. We arrived, and they said they were full but we could sit at the bar. I guess we didn't think the day after Labor Day around 8:30 PM would be that busy. So, we had to settle at the bar to eat our food. Bartender was very nice but understandably a bit stressed having to deal with 5 dinner orders when typically people at the bar are just getting drink(s) and/or maybe appetizer or something. However, she got a nice tip as she was hustling, answered our menu questions. I opted for the lasagna, which was amazing. We split calamari, which was only top notch. I asked what someone else from my party at the bar got for the wine, which she said Meiomi Chardonnay, which rhymes with our mutual friend Naomi. She said it's really good, you'll like. I got that, and she was right! It was one of the best wines I had in 2024. If ever in Myrtle Beach, I'd come back here. The bartender saved the day as did the outstanding cooks here. We were greeted by a host, and she brought us to a table. Then my aunt came, and we asked to move to a booth. After waiting for the booth table to be cleared off, we sat there. We all started with waters. We also started with the eggplant rolleti appetizer. I didn't try it, but it was good to the others in my party! After taking our time looking over the menu, I decided on the penne ala vodka with chicken, my mom got the spinach walnut ravoli, and 2x shrimp and scallops fri diablo. Entrees come with a soup or salad, and the other people in my party got a salad, and i got the potato soup. Server did a good job checking on us, and refilling our waters. soup and salad came out in a timely manner. Also the salad dressing wasn't bad- though i liked the soup too. The calamari was the best I think I have ever had. Tender and fried in a light batter and no tentacles. The main dishes were all delicious. We decided to stop in and are SO glad we did. The menu is varied; excellent wine selections; salad was SO LARGE we decided to make it our meal. The waitress even congratulated us on this decision. Where do I begin... had to wait for 15 mins for a drink order but the waiter did apologize. The salad greens were wilted and the tomatoes mealy. My wife ordered the saltimbocca which came with overdone chicken, dried out prosciutto and smothered in Marsala sauce not the wine butter sauce. I had the Ciao salad with chicken which was very dry and again wilted greens and no Gorgonzola cheese. So I had lunch today at Caio's and my bill came to $14.44. I noticed that if you use a credit card you pay am additional 3% added to the total bill so I decided to pay cash. I gave the waitress $20 and she gave me back $5 in singles bot no .56 cents When I asked about the change she stated we don't have change. As it turns out if I had used my credit card I would have only paid an additional .43 cents. So by paying cash I actually paid more. I have never heard of such a thing. read more

My first experience entering the restaurant wasn't the best; a gentleman greeted us with a bit of an attitude, which left a bitter taste before we even got to our starter. Fortunately, our server completely redeemed the situation attentive, kind, and truly made the rest of the evening wonderful. In the past 3 hours I had: sharp, efficient, caring, and helpful service from a more than a bartender Vera (because she is SO much more than a bartender), lovely and heartfelt conversation with owners of a restaurant for 17+ years, anecdotes from the bar from more regulars than I can shake a stick at, to flavors in your mouth worth ordering everything in the menu kinda night. If you are local to Myrtle Beach (and we are counting Charleston here its that good) and havent been here yet, or are traveling through and want a comfortable delicious place, get yourself here now before there is not a bar seat open. I wish I found this place earlier into my trip. The food was so good I would have come back another time if I could have. The chef pasta is a local favorite. It has a rich creamy cheesy sauce. If you love sharp cheese then you would probably fall in love with this dish. You can add a variety of proteins. We opted for the shrimp and it was very fresh/tender. The grouper is lightly breaded and fried and sat over a bed of angel hair pasta with a lemon sauce... think piccata without the capers. The grouper was so fresh, flaky, delicate and most important delicious!! Kudos to the chef for not overcooking any of the seafood. Service was exceptional. We were seated and served promptly. Out waiter checked on us frequently. Our drinks were always topped and bread basket refilled. The ambiance was cozy/classy/romantic. An upscale establishment with many booths. My husband had the Chef's pasta and the only way I can think of to describe it is weird. I love a good blue cheese sauce, and almost ordered it myself because they added truffle oil. The saving grace was the chicken he asked them to add. Otherwise, the sauce had very little blue cheese bite and no truffle flavor at all. My carbonara, a pasta I crave from time to time, was not at all craveable. They don't even have Pecorino Romano. The sauce overwhelmed the dish. There was more sauce than pasta, and though it had plenty of bacon, it was very one-note and overly rich. We had high hopes. They were not met this time.
