Years ago, this was our meeting location for our Yelp Tri Boro Bus tour, I went to Cibar again for an unofficial event. I was there briefly for the triboro bus tour. I felt I did not get to truly experience the place, so it was only right to check it out again. The atmosphere was quite nice, I enjoyed the setting. We had a table and small area commandeered during our event. Quite a few people showed up, so it was a bit tight, but that's fine. I met some new friends that showed up for the first time, and a few other Elite friends that came by from the makeover event I believe. It was a school night so I turned to my ever faithful sprite as drink of choice. One round was bought by a fellow friend, and the next was on the house. Thanks to both these guys for the hookup. The sprite here actually tasted like good sprite. *WINNING*. The staff was very nice and accomodating. At one point I was jumping through the air doing a chest bump with a fellow friend and a gentleman that works there kindly asked us to be careful as said friend bumped into him as well. I apologized and told him we were done chest bumping. Later in the evening I chatted with that same gentleman and another dude, very cool guys. I gave them my info and told them to keep in touch. That interaction really elevated the place for me. I'd return just to chat and chill out with these fellas. I also bumped into a Credit trader from the firm there, we shot the breeze for a bit too, it was cool seeing another familiar face. Simply put, this was a great place, run by great staff. And I made some new friends I believe. If I ever arrange an event at a bar or lounge, this place will definitely be on the list. I'm glad I came back again. read more

I've had this on my list for a while, and I'm glad I finally got to check it out! I needed a bar to meet up with a friend at in the area, and two bars nearby were completely packed with a long wait. I was surprised that Cibar was relatively empty. The two people working were so kind! There's a good amount of different areas you can sit (high top table, couch, etc). I ordered a mocktail (sugar no snap was the name) which was very sweet so I didn't end up finishing it, but my cousin enjoyed her glass of rosé. There's also two individual restrooms in the back. I came here with a group of 5 on a Friday evening. We booked a same day reservation through Resy right before our dinner nearby. It has a cozy noir ambience that feels like you are stepping in someone's humble abode. There are food on the menu, but we mainly came for drinks. The drinks here were good! I had the La Jefa and the Zebra dePassion. La Jefa was definitely a well crafted mezcal cocktail. The drink was just phenomenal! Zebra dePassion is a frozen drink but had a mango lassi consistency which was pretty interesting to say the least. Otherwise very enjoyable. Service was attentive and efficient. I came to this super cute bar when visiting New York and really enjoyed it. This was a cozy place and thankfully we were able to snag a spot for the 6 of us. We were given a cute menu with some special drinks - I cannot remember what I ordered, but I liked it. One of my friends also got a drink which she didn't like very much but it came with a small pastry on the side which she really liked. If I could give 0 stars I would . Got there at 6 pm when it opened and server was not ready and said it would be another 15 minutes. Not a problem so we waited outside and after more than 15 minutes we were seated. Not only did she try to skip some of the people in our group when taking orders (which was odd??) she then missed a drink entirely (stuff happens). Then she never checked in us again and we were more than interested in grabbing another round of drinks. Finally after almost an hour we asked for the bill. I organized a school happy hour at Cibar and it was awesome! Jennifer, the reservation manager, accommodated the time that worked best for us and made an exception for us by opening up early. Jenny, the host, were really flexible and didn't give us trouble when we had a much larger group than expected. It was so appreciated. The place is kind of tight, but it's also intimate and sexy. The amber lighting is gorgeous. The walls have varied decor and there's cool little chandeliers. The bar area is long with lots of stools, so everyone was gathered around there. People were enjoying their creative cocktails and martinis. I took a sneak peak in the back and saw they have a cute little garden for the warm weather. Nice to see such unique bars in popular areas. This place is pretty awesome. Really hole-in-the-wall lounge experience. I always walked past it without realizing where it was! But once you walk down the steps and get in you are transported to a new atmosphere. Really liked the food. My friend hosted a grad school club meeting and it was a great venue for the that kind of event. They served pizzas, cheese platter, truffle popcorn, turkey meatballs, sliders, and pigs in blankets. We came as a group of 4 after dinner but before we headed downtown to a club. All the drinks were phenomenal. According to the waiter, the two most ordered drinks are the Don't Touch My Penina and the Coked Up Hedge Fund Guy. Cibar- wanted to love this place but couldn't find any reason to. The backyard patio is cute and all which is why a girlfriend and I went there in the first place, especially in times like these. I don't mind the mosquitos- was well aware of them in advance. It was just the food and the drinks that fell short in my mind as the service and food were lovely. For food we just got the truffle fries to split and for drinks I got the Butterfly Effect and my friend got the Blood Orange Collins. The truffle fries were soggy but the sauce that came with it was good. What was upsetting were the drinks- at least mine. I couldn't taste any alcohol in it, like literally none...but it's a pretty drink so I guess that makes up for it? Please note that that was sarcasm. Post Covid review: I mean wow! This please has all the vibes! So let's get right into this review. I will start by saying I was skeptical of this place because I just didn't know what to expect. First impression: Upon arrival we asked for seating for two. We were given the the option to sit in the front or the back. We opted for the back simply because it felt more intimate and private! Happy I chose this option, the front was very lively with people with a great aesthetic of greenery, pink and other pops of colors. We were escorted to the back by the host and to our surprise it was 100% empty --stark difference from the front of the business. The host told us we are required to ordered food not just drinks. As well as to wear mask if we need to use the restroom. No biggie! COVID guidelines: all staff have their masks on and the menu is available online. You simply scan the QR code. There was no hand sanitizer available but I am a person who travels with my own. I'm sure if you ask them they would have some readily available. I say this because when night fell the mosquitoes came out to play. I went out on a limb and asked if they have bug repellent candles and he offered me bug spray! Service: The service here was A+ from start to finish. Firstly, I was consistently check on by both the host and my waiter. As reminder, we were back there alone, which means we could have easily been forgotten about-- that wasn't the case. The waiter was friendly, asked if we had any questions and even joked with us! Food and drinks: we weren't extremely hungry so just ordered the truffle fries they were really good and I would recommend. I am a frośe lover y'all! And the frośe here was my absolute favorite!! It was so delicious it had a perfect balance of ingredients and was actually frozen. I've have been places where that was not the case. I think literally the down side for this place (for me) was the bugs that came out at night and the creepy owl in one of the bathroom that was staring at me. I suggest getting the repellent candles for the back when night falls and get rid of the owl haha. Overall, I would certainly return to this place and recommend that you visit! read more

This is a lovely cocktail place. On Thursday nights, they have jazz in the upstairs area. The downstairs area is a really nice lounge for to have a date or hang out with friends. Very beautiful & comfortable vibe & decor, inside & out, with excellent groovy & house-y music provided by a guy & girl DJ duo called JUSTNKAYSE (the girl sang an original song too and her voice was beautiful). Their food & cocktail menu looks great as well, but we didn't have their food. We asked if the bartender could make us "mocktails" since we're not drinking alcohol nowadays (wife is expecting), and not only did they accommodate us with two "mocktails", but they literally made us the best "mocktails" we've ever had (no exaggeration)! Big thanks to the bartender, the waitress and the manager on duty - all were very personable and accommodating. We loved Cibar and look forward to hanging there again soon! read more

My girlfriends and I went out here on Saturday night 2/1/2025 because one of them had a date. So while she was on a date we decided to sit in the corner have a drink and chat. We're really alive and upbeat love to laugh have a lot of energy and we went to the bathroom together as girls do and the bartender told my friend who was on the date that we were doing "booger sugar" in the bathroom. So my friend who was on the date came in and told us this and we were like wtf?? So whatever we brush it off and then like an hour or two later we go to the bathroom again and the bartended kept saying it to my friend and her date. So then my friend's date thought that we were doing this too. So when we closed we called her out and she said "you guys just have a lot of energy" and then gave us a shot of tequila as an "apology" I'm just really grossed out by the whole experience and I also don't think bartenders should be drinking on the job. I'm super pissed off that I even tipped this girl anything because of what she was saying about us. Cibar is an intimate bar with some nice cocktails. The decor of this bar gives me a little bit of speakeasy vibes. Came here on a saturday and it was busy but we were able to grab a table by the door which wasn't ideal when people were coming in and out and the cold would hit us a bit. Nonetheless we had a good time here. The vibe was a combination of groups coming to hangout along with a few dates going on. There wasn't any music going on when we were there but that was fine as we were too engaged in our conversation to even care. Pretty good drinks and it's got a good vibe. The basic batch basically tastes like a hard lemonade. Easy to drink. The coco chanel was amazing though. Super smooth and creamy, my favorite of the place. The butterfly effect was pretty but doesn't really taste nice and balanced. The zebra depassion was also pretty average, mezcal and passionate flavors are pretty hard to go wrong with. About five suffering bastards, a blackberry martini, and a Brooklyn lager all I can remember is some drunk Scottish guy plopping down at our table and being the entertainment for the evening. After the Whitesnake concert at Irving Plaza, Stacey, me, and the uber-cool Amal were still in party mode so we walked across the street to Cibar for some drinks. Was not too crowded with a few couples strewn about and what seemed like a bachelorette party. About 8-10 of these girls were dancing and there were two of them really grinding away at each other basically having sex. Girl on girl action! But one of them was about 6 feet 8 and the other was about 5 foot 3. Looking closer I could swear the tall one was a dude. Was I really that drunk? She/it had women's clothes on. Whatever. The real fun was the drunk Scottish dude who just would not leave our table, even with Amal clowning him hard the whole time. We could not stop snickering and kicking each other under the table. The best is when he told Amal - "I want to take you back to my sex pad in Tribeca and make Scottish love to you". I almost peed my pants at that point! He finally got the hint and wandered away. The dude was totally clueless. Surprised Amal did not punch him, but he was harmless, if totally confused. This was my third time at Cibar. It actually is a nice place to hang out, weather with a group or an intimate evening for a couple. Dimly lit, large candles, flower arrangements, nice seating, great cocktails, cool music. Even a back patio to chill out on. A bit pricey, but good quality drinks. Appetizer food options on the menu to snack on also. Pigs in a blanket and nachos - oh yeah! I knew I would like this place when I saw outside the doors they had a complimentary doggy water bowl attached to their menu sign. Both adorable and really convenient. Though, I saw no dogs at the open bar event I went to a few months back in October. The space is chic and has both ample space, a nice lounge area, a disco ball-esque chandelier, and a back patio for warmer months. They had the twinkly lights going on. Cute little tables with a very funky decor. A chair in the shape of dark red lips, many clustered different tiny tables and petite chairs. It's whimsical and girly if anything in decoration. I imagine this would be a great place for a girly gathering or if you are caving into impressing your chic for the night on a date. At this particular event we were happily welcome to try any of their happy hour cocktails and wine on the house. The cocktails were honestly really really delicious. My favorites in particular were: The Hierarchy of Gifts: Prosecco, Lemon Oleo Saccharum, and Peychard's Bitters as well as some kind of special cucumber spicy margarita the bartender made that night off menu. Their old fashioned was good but a bit too strong. It will grow some hair on your chest. And the Ok Cupid's (something I can never wrap my head around and believe in) Cosmo was delicious but girl drink drunk in a cup. The bartender used quality ingredients and mixed all the drinks with excellent precision. Never got flustered with the amount of people and was quite sociable and friendly. A few sampler appetizers floated around. I mostly ate a lot of cheese and bits of brioche but they make seriously one of the best cheeseburger sliders I have ever had in my life. RANDOM. I remember this more than anything else at the event and how juicy and decadent they were. Salivating right now thinking about them. They also served a variety of squash flatbreads and mini wiener dog things. Pretty great place. A bit pricey but its nice for one of those special nights out. Cocktails are marked down from $14 to $9 during happy hour until 8pm. They also have a cocktail on their normal menu called the Ron Draper that I am incredibly tempted to come back and acquaintance myself with. read more

Had this place bookmarked since pre-covid; glad that I finally paid a visit! The outdoor set-up is really cute, and the street is quiet enough to allow for a good conversation. I first ordered the Butterfly Effect because I simply can't resist a drink with lavender in it, and it was really pretty but a tad too sweet, even for me. Came here for a PRIVATE event! It's small inside but very homey. A little chilly too but well worth it. I had my coat on the whole time I was there. It looks like a great place to grab a few drinks when it's warmer since they have their own little garden/seating area out back. They also have a small place to sit in the front too. I forget what kind of Martinis we had but they were good. A little on the pricey side but good. Can't say anything about their food but the goodies that we ate from the guest chef were quite good. Just thinking about it is making my insides smile happily. The guest chef was a total sweetheart too and was very hospitable. The Guest Chef, his food, his friendliness all get a 5 from me. Cibar... Dear Irving was closed for a special event, so we ventured across the street based on the good reviews. It was happy hour so we started ordering away. The happy hour cocktails were less than impressive. Tried both the gimlet and the old fashioned and forced my way through both. Couldn't decide if they were poorly mixed or bad quality alcohol. Based on those two, I didn't even bother trying anything else. I will say I had a sip of the beer of the day and it was decent. Service was slow. Had to flag down a server to get a refill of water or order more drinks. They did however make a point to come around just before happy hour ended, which was much appreciated. read more

I had been to Cibar several random times over the past few years, with the most recent being with colleagues after our holiday dinner.  This was the perfect place to relax in the comfortable, loungey environment and sip my well-crafted mezcal margarita.  The bar has an upscale cocktail lounge sophistication, but with an approachable, casual vibe.  The drinks are fabulous, and they even have a back garden to enjoy in the warm months.  Cibar is definitely worth locating on the lower level of an Irving Place brownstone. read more

VERY impressed with Cibar! It's 1920's swanky meets Alice in Wonderland topsy-turvy, with an awesome cocktail menu and GREAT music. Who knew this was tucked away on Irving?! A hidden gem! It's beautiful inside, and despite the upscale feel, it's not snooty in any way. The vibe was excellent, as were the drinks. I had the Cognac French 75 which was great, and different. I've been to Cibar quite a few times. They recently renovated. The cocktails have all been good, although I wish they'd bring back the chocolate martinis - those were the best! The music selection is always good. Atmosphere is great. Great place to meet up for cocktails. They also have an outdoor patio open in the warmer months. read more
