Incredible experience! I lived in Chicago from 2013-2020 and I have always loved the HogSalt group! All of their establishments are top notch and I expected no less from Ciccio Mio. It was hard to get a reservation for 7-7:30 on a Tuesday even though I booked well over a month in advance! However, I emailed them and was at least able to get my reservation 30 minutes earlier than what I found online. I really appreciated that they were responsive. We arrived early and when we checked in, our table was not quite ready so we went next door to Gilt Bar for a drink. We only had to wait 10 minutes and our table was ready...on time. The parlor lounge is lovely and once you are shown to the dining area, the ambiance continues. I then understood why it is so hard to get a reservation.....the restaurant is small with about 10-15 tables. Our waitress Christine was impeccable. She greeted us shortly after we were seated, explained the menu, offered suggestions, spaced our meal out and never let our champagne glasses get empty. We started with the premium burrata and it was so delicious we had to order a second helping of bread. We were torn between the burrata and focaccia, but Christine told us that the burrata is flown in fresh from Italy and it was a no brainer. We also split the caesar salad, gnocchi and vodka rigatoni and the toasted almond ice cream. All of the dishes were amazing. It seemed as if the ice cream was the winner for most tables. It is a tall swirl covered with crumbled almonds and once you eat the outside, what's left is just vanilla ice cream, however, it is some of the creamies, freshest vanilla ice cream you will ever have. It would be nice if the crumbles were mixed in so that each bite contained almond crumbles. You must go to the bathroom. On your way to the back, you will see a two top table right in front of the bar and the bartender explained that that seat is reserved only for the owner! It is super cute! Also, next to the restroom is a very chic sitting area. Although they add on a 3.25% surcharge, the service and meal were worth an additional 20% tip instead of an overall total of 20%. read more

Such a beautiful restaurant. I celebrated my birthday here and I had such a great time. Our server was knowledgeable about the menu and was kind from start to finish. It really made our dinner experience! The food is very traditional, Italian food! The salads were very tasty, the drinks were lovely, but the only thing that I would say was that the dinner menu is somewhat limited, but all of the options were good. If you're in Chicago and don't get dinner here, you are definitely missing o it. Came here with my husband for dinner on our recent trip and were blown away by the experience. The space is beautiful, feels like a very sophisticated speakeasy with low lighting and gorgeous decoration. Staff is very friendly and seems genuinely happy that you're there. We had a reservation (they open 3 weeks in advance and go quickly so plan ahead) and were sat very quickly. We had the burrata to start and it was the best burrata I've ever had. They drizzle 25 year aged balsamic on it right when it arrives and even gave us some slices of sopressata with it. It's served with fresh bread, oil, and wonderful pickled vegetables as well. My husband and I couldn't decide which pasta to get so we got three to share and this was a great decision. We had the lasagna which was so comforting and familiar (like a grandmothers just better executed ), the truffle pasta which was so decadent and creamy, and the stuffed pappardelle which was earthy and bright at the same time somehow. The twist is taking very traditional dishes - elevating them with bright fresh ingredients and serving them in non-traditional ways. We ordered the focaccia, meatballs, lasagna, and gelato. Portions were family style - enough to be full but leave room for dessert. The lasagna was the star of the meal - fresh pasta wrapped like roulettes and served in a pool of bright, fresh marina sauce. The acidity of tomatoes balanced the richness of the lasagna fillings. The spicy vodka rigatoni is absolutely worth the hype. I enjoyed it so much and even risked my salt-sensitivity for it. The sauce was so delicious and creamy plus the unique shape of the rigatoni really made the dish shine. Definitely my favorite so far out of all of the spicy vodka rigatoni's in this area. The bread was delicious and I really enjoyed that they also included giardiniera. The waitresses and waiters were very kind, but I think it was just very busy as they seemed to be gone whenever we needed them. We did do a walk-in and got the small bar seating in the front. It was noticeably very cold there but I eventually got used to it. Might be a huge plus if visiting on a very hot day. Overall, really liked the place! Went with a group of 4 people and we immediately noticed the coziness of the place. You can definitely listen to your neighbor's conversation if you wanted to. It's a dimly lit room and I did see a couple people using their phones for extra light to look at the menu. Service was great. Very attentive and swift. Couple of our friends apparently tried the next door restaurant (Gilt Bar) a few weeks prior and said that some of the dishes were exactly the same. They may share the kitchen lol. Anyway, not a huge issue because half our party hadn't been to Gilt Bar. We put all the dishes in the middle and ate family style. Steak and anchovy tartare: excellent. If you like tartare I recommend getting this. Comes with two side sauces so you can choose how to flavor your bites. Available at Gilt Bar. Spicy vodka rigatoni: the favorite of everyone's and also available at Gilt Bar. Not spicy at all so don't worry if you are not a spicy person. Black truffle bucatini: This was supposed to be all of our favorites but the flavoring was pretty heavy and we all agreed that it was a good thing we all shared one plate as opposed to one person having to suffer through the salty richness. Pappardelle: our waiter's recommendation. It was surprisingly good. This was number 2 for everyone at the table. But I don't know if the flavoring was anything special... I've definitely had pastas that taste the same without the price tag. Braised beef short rib: it was so salty. No one wanted to finish it. The polenta at the bottom helped dampen some of the saltiness but it was not a great dish. Almond cookie gelato: I understand why everyone gets this. Creamy, sweet, and delicious. We were glad to have finished the meal with this one. Now, I would have given a 3.5 but I think overall this gets bumped to 3 because of how we all felt afterwards. The food did not sit well and we all felt bloated for the next 24 hours. The food is on the heavy and pretty salty side. We probably will not visit again. Ciccio Mio is the definition of intimate and romantic dining! Hands down the best Italian cuisine experience I've had. The decor is an absolute stand out to me. Booked a reservation for two as soon as they dropped and was able to grab a 4pm spot on Thursday. The ambiance is top tier with the good music, lighting, and decor. The staff was great, everyone made us feel super welcomed and accommodated every request we had. Our server helped guide us on which bottle of wine we'd like, and we found our new favorite wine thanks to her help. We ordered the focaccia and meatballs as appetizers. Both were great, and the focaccia was the perfect thing to soak up all the sauce from the meatballs. For mains, we got the chicken Parmesan and spicy vodka rigatoni. WOW! But believe me, there's so many amazing options on the menu it's hard to just choose one. I recommend staying a mile away so you can walk some of it off afterwards. The gelato was what stole the show for the night. It made me think of the gelato shops in Europe. Ciccio Mio is a Chicago crowd favorite for a good reason and prone to please out of towners or locals on any given night. W-O-W is how I would overall rate this restaurant! Everything from the experience and ambiance to the food and service was immaculate to say the least! We got lucky because we attempted doing a walk-in (without reservations), and were fortunate enough to snag a couple of seats in their front room (the main dining room was for reservations only). I'd say if you're planning ahead, you should definitely make a reservation because the front room probably can only fit 6 - 8 guests comfortably. Our host immediately offered to check our coats for us and checked in with us throughout the dining experience! As for the food, their Chicken Parmesan was probably one of the best ones I've ever had (definitely shareable)! Crispy yet cheesy, with a tender and juicy inside. The Lasagne Bolognese is a classic dish and cooked to perfection with 3 huge rolls of pasta. Although the Spicy Shrimp Pasta was delicious, it didn't really have a spicy kick to it, so we asked for some red pepper flakes on the side to enhance the spiciness. Finally, don't be fooled by the side of Vesuvio Potatoes because they come in a huge portion (also very shareable) and paired very well with the rest of the dishes -- crispy on the outside while soft on the inside! I was drinking my martini on the slower side (trying to behave through the evening) and another server brought me a second chilled martini glass so that my drink would get warm. We started with the antipasta platter - where I found, for the first time, that I like burrata. I've tried it a dozen times, but this burrata was special and different and delightful. We ordered the following mains: * ORECCHIETTE PUGLIESE - which was loaded with sausage and the right amount of spice but more importantly the orecchiette was perfect. It held the meat and oils so well. * LASAGNA BOLOGNESE ROTOLO - a TREAT! The pasta is so light and the sauce so delicate. * RICOTTA GNOCCHI - the best item we ordered. Light. Airy. I've now been here twice, both for what I would consider to be special occasions, and the food has exceeded expectations each time. It's tough to get a reservation, so set an alarm for 30 days in advance and book what you can find. I managed to get some normal times when I've come here, but this place is worth a 9:30pm dinner if that's what you need to do to get in. Honestly the restaurant is so dark inside it might as well be 9:30 even if you're there at noon, but I guess that's the intimate romantic vibe they are going for. Everything from the appetizers (the burrata is my favorite), to the pastas (spicy rigatoni is amazing), to the entrees and desserts is so good. The only items I may not recommend are the truffle mozzarella sticks (yes, perhaps I could've seen this one coming ordering mozz sticks at a classy restaurant, but no it was not my decision to order these) and the asparagus (was fine, but rather bland). The service was a bit disappointingly slow the second time I was there, but I don't put too much weight into that. Go give it a try - it's not cheap, but the food is fantastic and you likely will not be disappointed. read more

The focaccia was so fresh and flavorful- all the herbs shined through the fluffy bread and the portion was pretty big for two people. The vodka sauce was delicious but the star of the show was the truffle bucatini. It was so creamy and Rich and not too overwhelmingly truffle. We got the eggplant norma vegan (without ricotta) and were impressed with how flavorful the red sauce was. Came here again and I just love it! Our waitress was so sweet and overall great vibes! Started with meatballs/caesar salad and bread service. The salad was great, crunch with lots of parm and great flavor! I would get again! Meatballs were also great. For my main obviously had to get the spicy vodka rig. This is just the absolute best in the city. Nothing compares. Last time I came here I really wanted to try the gelato. They were out. This time they were out again. I'm giving five stars, because the food is great, but I was excited to book reservations here for a group get together, and yet there's not a single vegan entree on the venue and two of the people in our group are vegan. It's 2026! You might want to consider this. read more

The ambiance in this restaurant is beautiful. Very intimate & romantic with an old time feel to it. It is very tiny on the inside & the tables here are in very high demand. After two attempts of setting an alarm on my phone for when the new reservations open up, I was finally was able to get a spot here. My favorite part of the night was that Ciccio Mio put out a little "Happy Anniversary" sign for us and brought us out a free dessert for our ~celebration~ This really added to our experience and made it a more memorable and special one. I appreciated the thoughtfulness a ton. Our food was good, but I have to be honest this was not the best Italian I've had in Chicago. My favorite thing we ordered was the focaccia bread. We finished the whole loaf between the two of us - it was so good. It came with a whipped ricotta, but I honestly thought it was better with just butter. I wish it came with olive oil, parmesan, and black pepper because I think that would have been better than the ricotta too. We really liked the two pasta dishes we got, but weren't blown away. My boyfriend & I agreed the Ricotta Gnocchi should have been an appetizer or something you share with a group of people because it was soooo rich. We both only had 2 bites of it and then couldn't stomach much more because it was so heavy. Still really good, just a lot to finish with only two people. We like the spicy shrimp better it wasn't as heavy, but still very flavorful. I have to say I was just a little disappointed after my experience. As hard as it was to get a reservation, I thought this was going to be the best restaurant I've ever been too, but it wasn't :/ I think the only and main reason I would recommend coming here would be just for the ambiance inside. read more
