Came here for the vegan options! I love that Cida offers "vegetarian style" for almost all of their dishes (I asked staff what this means and they explained that they have 2 different sauces - one without fish sauce that is vegetarian). I always get the pad kee mao with tofu which is loaded with fresh veggies, wide noodles, and fried tofu. It's not as flavorful as I'd like (or spicy... I ask for medium spicy and can hardly detect any spice so I will ask for hot next time) but it hits the spot! Plus it's super affordable and the staff are friendly. OOOH... a new high point for my belly. First of all, it's BYOB and in the burbs- a rare commodity that's deserving of 5 stars. The food does not disappoint. To start I got the vegetarian style Tom Yum soup with tofu and it was the absolute best Tom Yum soup I have ever had! Perfect spice, plenty of tofu and other ingredients, and good portion size. I think if I could only eat one thing for the rest of my life I would go with this. The tofu satay appetizer was just okay... next time I'd defo do the spring rolls as I saw almost every table in the place get them. Or maybe I'd just get a large Tom Yum soup. For my meal I got the Evil Jungle, extra spicy, vegetarian style. It has eggplant, mushroom, baby corn, green beans, tofu, basil, broccoli, red curry paste, and coconut milk with a side of rice. I ate it until I thought my insides were hemorrhaging... but in a satisfying and tasteful way ie- I only hade to undo the very top button my pants. My BF got one of their signature dishes, the Shrimp with glass noodles. It's served in a clay pot and it has BACON, onion, mushroom, pea pods, LOTS of healthy shrimp, and brown sauce. I was pretty much crying inside knowing my non-vegetarian bf was partaking in Thai food with bacon in it, a dream of mine. *sigh* For dessert we got the fried banana with vanilla ice cream. It's a funny dessert because it comes with 5 fried bananas that look like egg rolls and big mound of vanilla ice cream with honey and some sugar goodness with a little American flag on top. I'm not sure what the deal with the flag was but it was worthy of me getting my camera out to take a photo of. The place looks like it's a hole in the wall from the outside but the inside proves it's uniqueness. On a very stormy (trees going horizontal from wind and rain) Friday night, when my bf and I went, every table was packed. We got the last open spot and the place stayed packed until we left. It's also right next to a wine and spirits store so if you forget your booze you won't be out of luck. The service is perfect for the place. I've been coming here for about 14 years. This is one awesome place. I'd recommend this restaurant over almost all Asian restaurants in the Chicagoland area. Parking can be tricky. Especially during the busiest lunch or dinner times. There is also parking in back with a rear customer door. The way they keep the place clean and decorated is awesome. I see a great new coat of paint every couple years and the interior decorations and tablecloths are changed each month for timely seasons or holidays. There is often low Thai instrumental music playing to heighten the experience too. If you come at lunch they will get you served and out super fast. If you don't need to get right back to work then tell them to go slow, you'll enjoy the experience far better. The servers are great and see me before I even enter the place and place my Crab Rangoon order for me. I come at least once a week so I'm easy to recognize. They also remember how I like each dish in regards to alterations and spice level. If you're a bit newer of a customer they will be kind and helpful with the menu and options. The best thing here is the Crab Rangoon. The cream cheese filling is plentiful and has a unique blend of light spices and black pepper that bring it to a level I've rarely found in any Asian restaurant across the US and Canada. There have been many times I've stopped at the wine store next to Cida and have also gotten an order of crab Rangoon here to take home. I simply can't resist. Other dishes are pretty solid. The Pad Thai is my favorite entree (that I do ask for extra spice) but there are other great options like basil chicken or Thai fried rice that are staples most places but are made different enough to make this worth the trip. Many dishes can be a bit bland as ordered straight off the menu but they can add a little or a lot of rich spice that isn't just about the heat. The Thai iced tea here is great but be cautious with hot tea as it's just a tea bag and hot water, not a pot of tea like many places offer. They have a salt water fish tank with a blue tang and a couple clown fish at the ready. Kids just love it. Heck, I'll even stand and watch them for a few moments! There aren't many restaurants I endorse with this much passion. With some strong Thai options in Brookfield, Burbank, Bridgeview, downtown LaGrange, Oak Park, and the SW side of Chicago, I will always drive out of my way to bask in this lovely experience. My mother and her friend went to this restaurant on Thursday 9/14 in the evening. My mother had recent dental work done so she asked for a recommendation of something easy soft to chew. The waitress recommended a rice dish omiting onions and salt. When the dish arrived my mother found it to be very dry and actually was choking on it. She was choking for about 10 minutes and had to leave the table because she was choking so hard. Her friend was enjoying her meal so my mother said to the waitress, "I better get something else to eat this is dry and overcooked." The waitress said she could not bring her another meal without charging her which they could not understand why. My mother ordered 2 egg rolls and she was charged for those too! She had never heard of ANY restaurant not allowing a substitution of a meal for which there was something wrong with it. The manager even said no substitution and my mother didn't want to make a scene because she was with someone and had already been embarrassed with the choking and the treatment that she had received. My mother and I used to love going to this restaurant but we will NEVER go there again. She called me to say how bad of an experienced this was. I cannot believe that she was treated this way. She is a senior citizen and on a fixed income. Why didnt tgey make it right? What could another dish cost the restaurant? The dinner she chose was like fried rice and would not have cost the restaurant much and the fact that they modified it and probly overcooked it it was their fault that she was choking on it. They acted like none of that was their problem They charged my mother for that overcooked rice even though it was thrown out and for the egg rolls and embarrassed her in front of her friend. I order dinner size pad thai and thai egg rolls for lunch. I asked specifically for extra hot chilli sauce, even indicating I would pay the extra .50 per container. $16 lunch. I received 5 over done shrimp and three tiny tiny egg rolls. To boot, I asked if they gave me extra chilli and she said yes.... There was one. One the size of a single table spoon. I've been a customer here way before Tom took over the restaurant... I think going on 20 yrs now? I remember when I moved to the area 2 ladies ran this place. Anyhow, my now 11 yr old daughter considers this place one of her favorite places too. It would be hard not to since she 'ate' the food before she came to this world This is a good/family/neighborhood spot. Staff behind the counter changes from time to time (I believe a lot of them are family members), but Tom is in the kitchen as always cooking up my favorite dishes. While I usually eat here once a week, they are not allowing seating at this time. I discovered their carry out food is the same awesome quality! I have tried Curry at other restaurants and no one has ever come close to the quality and flavor. They only make it to order as all of their dishes. My only complaint is their phone system. It is often busy and you have to call back several times to get through. Sometimes you do not even get a busy signal. While it is worth the extra effort, seems like a better phone system would make it worthy the investment. It would also be great if you could order on line. Not sure if the cooks have changed or something, but Cida Thai is not as good as it used to be a few years ago. Cida Thai was actually the first Thai restaurant I had ever been to and it blew me away the first time. I may have been biased just because I had nothing to compare it to, but it was nowhere near as good as I remember. I got the pad woonsen for carry out yesterday and there was maybe 30% noodle and 70% vegetable. It is not that I don't like vegetables, but rather I felt this was more of a veggie stir fry than the carb heavy noodle dish I was going for. My co-worker suggested Thai for lunch and had the best one in mind. Cute little place found in a boring strip mall. Once you walk inside you're transported to a lively and colorful dining atmosphere. Best detail of them all, lunch pricing starting at $5.99 which comes with your choice of entrée, spring roll and a cup of vegetable soup. I saw that Crab Rangoon's were offered on the appetizer menu and at $4.99 an order, I had to check them out. Nicely fried with a spoonful of filling, the cream cheese is subtly bland not sweet with a light coat of some kind of black pepper. Goes perfect with the provided sweet and sour sauce or with chili hot sauce. I loved how every detail had its container, holder, sauce tray, etc. That the room had a few accents of décor showing that the restaurant realizes that Easter is upcoming. Two people, two lunch specials, green tea and an appetizer the total was less than $19 dollars before tip. The lunch portion was just the right size to satisfy and the food had a clean feeling and taste to it. No MSG used in any of their dishes. It's easy to see why they are a solid four star restaurant. My husband and I just had dinner here. This place is great for so many different reasons. First, it's byo and there's no corking fee. Who can complain about that? Second, it's at a great location - right near the corner of 55th and LaGrange Rd. Third, it is incredibly reasonable. Crab rangoon appetizer (6 HUGE and delicious pieces), 2 entrées, and 20% tip totaled 30 dollars. Yes, that's right. 30 dollars. And finally, the food, service, and ambiance were all spectacular. From the outside, it really doesn't look like much. The restaurant is really very simple - paper napkins and tablecloths, but it's so warm and inviting. Lots of bright colors and creative decor. This place has become my go-to Thai place in the 'burbs. First off, the atmosphere is relaxing, and the staff are always friendly. There's plenty of seats and you'll never have a wait. The joint is BYO, so my wife and I always bring a four-pack of Goose Belgians or the like, and they'll bring you glassware and take the bottles and caps for you. Also, your water glass is never empty. The food is great. I saw another review about bland food, and I'm not sure if he got a bad batch or something, but our food has always been seasoned great and along the lines of the spice level you ask for. The duck curry was great, and quite spicy. Also, although Pad Thai is overdone everywhere, this place's is quite nice, and I wouldn't hesitate getting it again. The crab rangoon and potstickers are other standard fare that are also fresh and tasty. My personal favorite, however, is the Pad Kee Mao (Drunkard's Noodles). As a sidenote, when the owner is cooking the food is even better, but it's always good. My husband and I were in search of something to fill our tummy. We had passed this place a few weeks back and after finding that most of the yelp reviews were positive, we stopped in. Like most people say, it doesn't look like much from the outside but as soon as you walk in - it's inviting. We came on Halloween and it was decorated so cute. The tablecloths were all this cool Halloween pattern and I was impressed. Our server was ok - not too friendly. She completely forgot our drinks and when my husband asked about them later, she looked at him like she had no idea what he was talking about. There were only like 3 tables seated. So that was kind of odd. The other girl working there was a lot more friendly. The food came out quickly and it was really delicious. I had the evil jungle dish, which was a vegetarian mixture and tofu with a lite coconut sauce. It was really good, except for the addition of eggplant. Yuck. My husband went with his usual red curry. This is a tough one, as I spent many a happy lunch hour with a simpatico (yes, it can be an adjective) colleague. And at times the food was great. She said, "Are you in a hurry?" We were not sure how to respond to that. They're spring rolls, which, according to me, don't take that long, and according to http://vegetarian.about.com/od/maindishentreerecipes/r/ThaiSpringRolls.htm are "a quick, no cook meal." We say...."Um, how long?" She shakes her head; the "please don't order these" shake of the head. We acquiesce, ordering the fish cakes instead. Upon a few bites, my friend says...."What do you think of these?" (He's so kind.) I said..."Um. Spongy?" He agreed. They were tasty, yet quite spongy. I could have cleaned my sink with one of them. Meanwhile, we both ordered the lunch specials. Specials come with egg roll and soup. The egg roll had nothing but cabbage in it and the soup was an amazing array of water and starch. In addition, the main course was tiny and lackluster. My stir fried basil/ground chicken was not particularly tasty, and the chicken had a toughness to it that suggested some sort of fry/boil. My friend's pad kee mao seemed similarly blah. He's too polite to say so, however. The whole thing seemed rushed and not prepared with much care. Would I go back? Yes. I've had good food here, so there's always hope. But like many Thai restaurants, the food really varies. One day is perfection; the next 2.5 stars on Yelp. I can't believe I haven't reviewed Cida yet. This has my vote as the best Thai food in the La Grange,Western Springs, Hinsdale, Clarendon Hills, and Westmont corridor. The parking situation is not great-- next to a laundry and liquor store and not very deep. The interior seems to be in the moderately priced Asian restaurant category. Not a huge number of tables here, as the space is pretty narrow. Our table had to get the Crab Rangoon, as it has been justifiably praised here and elsewhere. Not really a Thai dish, but it's certainly a crowd pleaser. The pad Thai here is very good -- worth a detour. The curries are also very nice. If your commute takes you through the 55th and La Grange road intersection, you'd be missing out if you don't stop here for dinner or carry out. read more

On my very first week moving from the UK to Chicago land area, I had the unfortunate experience of dinning at Cida thai restaurant, since there is a tremendous thai community in Europe and I am very familiar with its cuisine and cultures I decided to give Cida thai a shot. 1)The waitress could barely communicate with I and a group of new friends I suggested to try this place out since its 1 mile away from my place of work. 2) appetizers terrible, over cooked chicken satay. 3) Main courses:All my friends were disappointed with their portions and time We had to wait for our meals. I ordered a green curry. I don't remember the exact price of it, but the portion was small, the sea food rare, and when the bill came, I was over charged in 20$, when I asked what was that,the waitress responded that I was being charged for every extra item putted in my dish, which obviously wasn't on the menu and I did not ordered. I replied that I wanted to pay for the green curry I ordered, she started screaming at me that I had to pay, soon she was joined by the restaurant's manager which started screaming as well. They called the restaurant owner who's apparently is a kick boxer from Thailand, who was coming to muscle me. Finally he came over while I was "detained" by his staff,on the restaurant . I tried to explain to him that I was being over charged and instead of helping me out, he said wait right here, BELIEVE ME OR NOT He called the cops of Countryside's police department. 2 officers came over and a big commotion was formed in the restaurant, the lady was crying saying I was trying to run away without paying my bill, which clearly wasn't the case. At the end the cops said you can come with them to the police department and We will sort all out there or you can pay the bill and filled a complain against them with the consumer rights. I paid because I did not had time for all of that, but I will never come back to this place. HORRIBLE FOOD, TERRIBLE SERVICE. On the following Monday after this tragic incident over the weekend I mention that at my working place,and some of them promptly said, "don't go to that place,if they catch that you're from another town they ALWAYS over charge you" Don't ever go to CIDA thai unless you want to get robbed! read more

Cida is a suburban gem even though it is located in a strip mall off of two very busy streets. The decor is nothing to write home about but it is always neat and clean. I also enjoy the tiny vases filled with M&M's that they refill each time the table is cleaned. Cida offers a lunch special starts at $5.99 and changes in price based on what you order. The lunch special ends at 3 and beware that they are not open on Monday's. I have only been to Cida for their lunch special, which includes a tiny spring roll, small soup and an entree. I tend to order the Thai Fried Rice with shrimp and greatly appreciate that they shrimp are actually fresh and not those horrible frozen shrimp that have the texture of rubber and no flavor like many other Thai/Chinese restaurants tend to use. I just really wish that the portions were a little bit bigger (hence a 3 star rating). In all fairness, if I am paying $8 for fried rice, I expect to walk away feeling satisfied, which is not always the case at Cida. There are quite a few places in the Chicago that I frequent whose portions are enough to take leftovers home and it makes me feel like I am getting a bang for my buck. Because the food is so good, I keep going back even if it means that I leave a bit hungry. I guess that's not always a bad thing though :). read more

This was my first time at this gem of a restaurant and I stumbled upon it while I was doing some shopping at Tj Maxx down the road. I was starving and asked the cashier for recommendations and she suggested Cida! And....Holy deliciousness! I haven't had food this authentic since I was in Thailand last summer! This food is unreal! This is by far one of my favorite Thai restaurants ever. I've been coming here ever since high school. I like that it's family owned. I feel that's one of the reasons the staff is always so friendly. I've never had a dish here that I disliked. Like most Thai places, it's very vegetarian friendly. Some of my favorites are the Pad Woonsen, Crab Rangoon, Vegetable Tempura, Spring Rolls, Pad Thai (probably the best Pad Thai I've ever had), Sweet and Sour Tofu, Thai Fried Rice, Green Curry... just to name a few. Anything you try will be good. Another plus is they are BYOB, so they aren't going to overcharge you when order drinks, like most restaurants. There is NO cork fee, which is nice. Right down the street is Mainstreet Liquors, which has a great selection of wine and beer reasonably priced (although most things you could get cheaper at Costco or on sale at Jewel). Still, it's nice if you forgot to bring something with to Cida. read more

For the burbs this is probably the best Thai you're going to find in the area. I've been going to Cida Thai since it opened a few years back and have always had good dining experiences. The food is good, reasonably priced, and the staff is friendly and efficient. Sure, I've had better Thai food elsewhere, but I've never walked away from Cida dissatisfied. I am also a fan of the BYOB status of this place, and the fact that it is right next to a liquor store with a good beer and wine selection. My pick on dishes are the Stir fried asparagus (I get mine spicy with shrimp), Cida's house curry, the curry fried rice, and the shrimp with glass noodles. read more

After a recent trip there a couple of weeks ago, I'm happy to say that they still are a decently priced and solid source of Thai food in the western suburbs. Other reviewers have questioned the high rating of this restaurant, and I would have to say that I do take other factors into mind when I am reviewing a restaurant. For example, if I am going to an expensive, trendy place that has gotten rave reviews, I have a certain level of expectations that I am judging that restaurant on. So here's the thing with Cida Thai - it's difficult to find a BYOB at all in the burbs. And generally Thai places in the burbs fall into one of two categories: hole in the wall mom and pop places that have good food, or overpriced upscale Americanized versions of Thai. But Cida Thai is a clean, cutely decorated, inexpensive Thai restaurant that has decent food. And it's right next door to a liquor store with a fantastic wine selection! Small (tiny) pieces of fried tofu, with a small bowl of sweet chili sauce, on a small plate. What's up with that? Trying to make small things look bigger by putting them on a small plate? C'mon, small is small. Crispy noodles with shrimp and tofu was also just a small serving - nothing to it. Two shrimp in the whole dish - maybe it was two shrimp halves! I was stuck at Discount Tire while my winter tires were being mounted to new wheels, so I tried out Cida during my wait, which is 1 block away. It was cold today so I tried the spicy green curry..it was super delicious! I ordered it with tofu, and it came with a eggplant, bamboo shoots, and green peppers. The menu said it was spicy, and it lived up to it's advertising! I asked the server before ordering "Is this spicy by default?", she responded with "Have you ever had curry"? Kind of a weird response since all I was wondering if it's hot by Thai standards, even though the menu eluded that it was spicy. I wasn't born yesterday, and yes I have had several curry dishes in my day. Often when something is labeled spicy, it can be mild depending on the restaurant. Not sure if there was a communication barrier or if she was making fun of me. I went in early for dinner, around 4:45p on a Saturday, and there was one couple there when I arrived. By the time I left, there were four other groups/families in there (each with 4+ people), one person stopped by for take out. Seems to be popular place in the neighborhood. I ordered the Pad Thai with chicken lunch special with Crab Rangoon to go, and it was excellent. I couldn't stop eating the Pad Thai it was so good. The egg roll was very light and not greasy. I haven't tried the soup yet, but it looks good. The Crab Rangoon was delicious. I really like the sauce that accompanies the crab and egg roll. I will definitely be back to try other items on their menu. read more
