I recently stayed at the Vagabond Inn in Bishop for two nights with my pups, and it was an awesome experience from start to finish. The rooms were spotless, the beds were super comfortable, and I slept better here than I have at a lot of higher-priced hotels. The bathroom was clean, well-kept, and had plenty of hot water every time I showered. As a dog owner, I really appreciated how welcoming the property was. it felt easy and stress-free traveling with pets. The housekeeping team deserves a shoutout too; they were on top of everything and the entire place looked tidy and well cared for during my stay. In the mornings, there's complimentary breakfast and coffee, which was a nice bonus before heading out for the day. Is this a 4 star hotel? No. But, it has proven to be a clean, quiet, and reasonably priced hotel in Bishop, a real clutch for our non-camping nights in the Eastern Sierra. For these reasons, I give it 4 stars. Parking is ample, and the spaces are large. The doggy potty lawn in the back has been redone, as last year when we stayed here the grass was dead. On this visit, it was green and soft. Much more potty welcoming for our pup. The beds are comfortable. The sheets are soft enough. The towels are small, but okay. The toiletries are cheap, so use your own. The breakfast has zero options of non dairy milk, which is a bummer for potential coffee or cereal. There are a handful of decent breakfast options in Bishop, so this is not a deal breaker. Agan, it's not an all inclusive luxury hotel, but it does have what you need when in the Sierra to have a quiet, comfortable, short stay in between going off to your next adventure. read more

Two stars given because the definition of "could have been better" applies. I'll start by saying that the customer service was very good, and the people in the office we dealt with during our stay were friendly and very helpful resolving a problem we had. Kudos for very good customer service. However, we've stayed here many times over the years, and sadly the property seems to be poorly maintained and declining. Some basic problems with the room included the shower shampoo/conditioner wall holder was broken off and just sat on the edge of the bathtub, and a light bulb was burned out in a lamp. The carpet is old and feels dirty. Wear shoes, socks, or sandals, not bare feet. The small refrigerator is tucked under a counter in an almost inaccessible corner of the room with a wall jamming it, and is almost unusable unless you pull it out from under the counter and turn it facing you or you're a contortionist. Add on to that, after returning from a day fishing, we found a typed form notice advising us that "they would be providing minimal room service due to minimal housekeeping staff and the heavy occupancy". Really? Hire more staff, or don't book up more than you can clean! And now you tell us after paying a premium for the room that you're not going to be full service?! Outside the room there was dog crap on the walkway to our room, and the parking lot was full of piles of wind blown leaves blocking many of the parking stalls. Contractors seem to have the run of the hotel judging by the number of contractor trucks in the parking lot, and door slamming at 5-6 AM. Ear plugs are a must. As for the continental breakfast it was hit and miss. The first day there didn't seem to be a dedicated food person to replenish stock, and many things were depleted. The next day they did have a dedicated person, and things were refilled promptly and although basic met the definition of a continental breakfast. All in all, the Vagabond is just giving out that "poorly maintained, we don't care" vibe, at least in regards to maintenance. Weird because the office staff were incredible. read more

we had a great experience here, such a cozy & clean room. the town nearby is so cute. we booked the room that has a queen & 2 bunk beds! the breakfast was super nice, with a view of the mountains (fruit, yogurt, cereal, bagels, muffins, hardboiled eggs) only thing was that the curtains for the windows didn't really cover well. plus the shower curtain is weirdly short. plus the tv wasn't smart so we couldn't really see any good shows. read more

We stayed in the two bedroom "suite." The furniture looked like they picked it up off the side of the road that someone had thrown out. People who stayed in our room previously put a parental lock on 90% of the channels and the front desk did not know the code. One of the main draws was the hot tub after hours of being in the car. I walked by to find two homeless men in the hot tub. The front desk said they would call the police. I was terrified all night a Homeless person would try to get in our room. There was a huge ladder propped up from the outdoor patio to the fence, I had to go out and take it down, this made it easily accessible to get into the yard that was part of the room. I guess when I checked in the employee made a mistake. By receiving keys from this employee and her scanning my identification I figured there was no problem. Sometime around 2145 hours there was a loud crash at the door to my room. I figured it was a drunk subject that forgot what room was his. I jumped out of bed and ran to the door. A man was on the other side yelling at me to come and pay. I had no idea what he was yelling about and I explained he had the wrong room and needed to leave. Words were exchanged and I finally slammed the door in his face. 2 minutes later he was back knocking on the door. I exited the room this time. He was a shorter man and I asked him what he wanted and who he was. He finally calmed down enough and said he was the manger of the location. I explained to him he had no right to come into or attempt to come in my room. He explained, in a heated tone of voice that I need to pay because I had not. I told him I would up to the office in a few minutes. When in the office he scolded me for not paying. I got made all over again and informed him I had payed as his employee had provided me keys and had scanned my identification. I guess when an employee of a Inn scans your ID and gives you room keys that does not mean everything is OK with the room. As the manager and I had a spirited discussion about the situation, another employee next to him said I made a mistake by checking in early. I informed that idiot that there was no way I made mistake checking in early as I was not an employee of the location and that he needed to figure out who was incharge and to let the adults discuss this situation. Coming from a Law Enforcement background I expressed my concerns for the safety and well being of the customers and the employees of the establishment if their practices of forcing their way into people's rooms continued. When asked how they could make the situation right they offered a 10% discount. This is equal to the Triple A discount I should have gotten and that I still have not recieved. I have been staying at this Inn for 40 plus year and have never been treated like this. Im so disappointed with this situation but more concerned about the safety of everyone. I offered to talk with the manager, who by the way refused to give me a business card or any identification. By the way he was not wearing any uniform or visible identification showing he worked for Vagabond. This was a big mess and I guess the sign I need to go else where. read more

Before I left the Inn the following morning, I reminded them again. When I returned around 4 p.m., they told me they didn't have one because others had taken them. On top of that, my room hadn't been cleaned. To make matters worse, the phone in my room wasn't working -- the staff said that none of the phones in the Inn were functional. I understand this is a 2-star facility, but based on my experience, it feels more like a 1-star stay, if that. read more

The inn looks fine outwardly. We were out all day and the housekeepers never came. We had to ask for bar soap twice as our vanity sink had none and you could not remove the bottle in the shower as it was in the wall. The bed was very comfortable, the room a decent size. The main downside was we could NOT get hot water in the shower and the vanity sink tap was backwards, which took a minute to figure out. No bathtub stopper either. But convenient location and we could walk to any restaurant in Bishop. Staff was also nice. read more

The room we got had 2 sets of bunk beds and a separate room with king bed. It was really cool but there aren't side rails so young kids and even my 8 year old wouldn't be able to sleep up there. We got to breakfast an hour and a half before it was over and all that was there was cereal, one type of muffin, and bananas and apples and juice. The employee said when we walked in, "We already ran out of French toast," but there were no signs it had been there, no other people eating and not even close to closing. We have stayed here often on our way passing through the city. We stayed over Labor Day weekend and I left a throw blanket in one of the bunk beds. We checked out by 730 am and I called immediately when I got home after unpacking (at 11:30 am) and noticing I left it behind. I spoke with Christian, and was told he would call me back after locating it. I received a call back stating he had found it and they would ship it to me, I asked if they needed my card information so they could charge me for shipping and he said no we will take care of it. Fast forward 3 weeks and I had completely forgotten about it. I called and spoke to a couple different people who directed me to Luis, the Manager. We were in the area again traveling through on our way to Mammoth, so I told him we would stop by. When we stopped by I told him the story, pulled up my phone records in my phone and showed him the dates and times I called and whom I had spoken to. He took me to the maids closet and went through a few bags with people's belongings in it, and we found nothing. He said he would follow up with me, I again gave him my number and asked him to call me. He didn't, not has he. I don't want to say it was stolen or people working there are dishonest, but based on my experience and how my expensive Barefoot Dreams blanket was found, and then disappeared is very questionable. Their lack of customer service, and follow through is unacceptable. I will never be staying here again. And I will be sure to never recommend them to anyone. read more

What can I say - pretty mid place to stay. We stayed here for three nights in January. The price was great, the room was clean, and the water ran hot. The good: - breakfast is included and was quite good! It was a simple continental breakfast focused primarily on breads, yogurt, and cereal. They also have coffee and juice. - the room was clean - we had three people in a double queen, and both beds were absolutely sparkling. No bed bugs as other reviews have said. - the bathroom area was quite spacious for 3 people. The not as good: - the heater was at ceiling height and didn't have a remote. Why in the world is it there? The guys in our group had to stand on a chair to change the temperature and turn it on/off. Just weird!!! - a person in our group who stayed in another room had trouble opening their door (we did too but learned you have to go SLOW). They had a different problem though.... Their door fell off the hinges when they opened it! Pretty ick. Overall, I'd stay here again if I had to. But it's not my primary choice. read more

Have stayed here a couple times, mid grade room, have not seen any bugs as some have reported. Parking lot is large, coffee maker, microwave, iron in the room. Tv has cable channels with hbo and cinamax. The pool is nice, jacuzzi was broken on this trip but has worked in the past. They have a fish cleaning section which is a plus, ice machines and laundry machines. The breakfast is really continental: juice, bagels, yogurt, cereal, coffee and some fruit. Good location in town, close to everything, also get a discount at Dennys next door by staying here. Will stay again when in the area. read more

We stopped here on our way to Tahoe after a day of driving. I've never been so happy to stop for just one night. AC was already on, room was nice and cool. Room was clean, linens look clean and well appointed. Every thing was great until I found...a spider in my bed. Ugh. For travelers with fur babies, there is a nice sized dog park in back behind the building. Dated shower and tub in the very clean bathroom, but no bathroom fan. I had business in Bishop, CA, and since my company has an account with them, they booked me at the Vagabond Inn. I would have given them a three star for the out of date rooms until I realized there was a 3/4 gap on the bottom of the entry door that who knows what could crawl through. Mice only need 1/4 inch to squeeze through. Upon checking in and paying for my room, I was asked if I had $5 for a "resort fee." I asked if it could be added to the company account and was told no. So I gave her the money and asked for a receipt and was told that she could not give me one, but it would be on my receipt at checkout in the morning. Fair enough. When I checked out, I did not look over the receipt, trusting what I was told and went on my marry way. Upon getting home that night, I noticed the $5 was not on the receipt, so I called to let them know and ask if they could send me one and was told it was emailed. It has been 5 hours, and I still have not received the email with the receipt. It is only $5, but a massive amount of trust and integrity has been lost for the vagabond inn in Bishop CA, and neither myself nor any employee in our company will be returning to stay here. Don't give them the $5 resort fee, and make sure you put a towel under the door to keep critters out. read more

This was my 3rd time at this Vagabond in 12 Mos time. Had a reservation for 2 nights. Received a call yesterday, while at the lake, asking why my stuff was still in the room that I only had a one night stay. The person I spoke to said she would have to see if there was a room available. Because we only had one night. I don't know what happened to my reservation and why this happened. Second, our room was full of ants. All over the counters and near the bed. Thirdly, the keys are awful. They do not stay encrypted with the data for the room. I had to go back 3 times during a 2 night stay. This is a problem in general several other guests told us they had the same issue. We will change to another hotel moving forwards. Absolutely horrible! Don't waste your money. First of all, we found a HUGE cockroach in our bed (photo provided). I took the cockroach to the front desk, and the office staff agreed it was disgusting. They took a photo and told me the manager would contact me. I never heard anything from management until I returned home. Second of all, the phone in the room did not work so anytime we needed anything from the front desk, we would have to physically walk to the front desk. Thirdly, there was a significant hole at the bottom of our door (photo provided), so that's probably where the roach came in.  Also, housekeeping did not make our beds up even once. I understand not changing our sheets, but they should have at least made our beds daily. Lastly, our room keys never worked (video available), so anytime we left our room, we would have to walk again to the front desk to be given another key. The office staff tried blaming us for demagnetizing the keycard, but it happened regardless of where we placed the keys. We didn't walk away from this hotel because it was a holiday weekend and all local hotels were filled up. Believe me, we tried by calling around for availability. This was definitely the worst experience we've ever had at a hotel. read more

BED BUGS GALORE!!!!!! DO NOT STAY HERE! We arrived around 11pm. Soon as we checked in I went to check the beds and right off the bat i found a bed bug crawling across the back of the pillow. Lifted up the mattress and it was infested. We went and got a refund and left! Lets see if the refund ever actually gets to me. The lady at the front desk was unfazed when i showed her a picture of the bugs. I ended up writing another review on Expedia where they responded saying they "went and checked the room" and it was clear then proceeded to say it was tree/wood beetles like i don't know the difference.
