Been coming here for a decade, the prices have gone up significantly and people who worked here have changed but the food is always consistent and delicious. It's a more tasty Chipotle with authentic flavors with a huge variety of toppings. It's in a gas station but don't let that stop you. We are talking about a hole in the wall, gas station eatery, not El Torito, Black Angus, or even the Cheesecake Factory, but yet the prices are as high as those fine establishments. We instantly fell in love with the flavors but unfortunately after moving, the location was just not conducive for me anymore. When you think of gas stations, you probably don't equate that with great Mexican food and some of the best burritos in the city... enter Cilantro Mexican Grill located within a Chevron gas station in North Hollywood. I guess it's not the craziest thing since I've been told on more than one occasion that some of the best BBQ in the south is located at gas stations. This spot works like a fast casual type spot where you go up to the counter and order and wait for them to call out your name. There's some seating inside along with a DIY condiments/salsa/toppings bar. This place first popped up on my radar because some friends got together and got breakfast burritos from all around town - we sliced them up as best as we could to compare as many as we could...then I noticed this same spot pop up on IG from some folks I follow. I knew I had to go at some point. The opportunity presented itself when I had to be in North Hollywood for a friend's birthday. I ordered the Surf And Turf Burrito. It's technically not on menu, but it's considered one of their most popular items and it's essentially their carne asada burrito with a healthy portion of shrimp (along with a sauce more suited to the shrimp). At $21.99 (as of 4/25), it's not a cheap burrito, but it's huge and there is lots of shrimp and steak, so it honestly feels like a good value and could totally be two meals. When I first unwrapped it, my original plan was to eat only half. I made the mistake coming in hungry and it was just that tasty, so I ended up eating the whole thing in one sitting. Everything was really well prepared and the steak had a great marinade. Just a really great burrito. Lots of the other items looked really good as well. I guess I'm going to have to come back at some point to try more items on the menu! Just tasting the flavors from the burrito I ordered, I can only imagine how good everything else is. Parking could be tough. There's only handful of spots on the lot (it is a gas station). There's street parking nearby, but be prepared to walk if needed. I was lucky I was able to squeeze into a spot, but the carwash line wraps around and depending on how busy it is and how logical the people waiting in line are, there's a chance you may get stuck in the spot for a while. read more

I'll preface, I did a doordash on this place. I looked up some youtube food reviews, wanted to avoid the Halloween crowd after a long week and pulled the trigger ordering after work. This place is sneaky good. Salsa is top notch and if you like spicy there's no hidden innuendo here, they bring the heat. Found myself actually sweating with the hot which is rare for me. I ordered a Caliente Burrito with shrimp, even in this day and age of high inflation a good amount of shrimp in there. The shrimp was not only seasoned but obviously cooked in a seasoned red sauce which really hit the spot and made the burrito slightly wet. Chips are seasoned with some salt and paprika, might not be everyone's steeze but I thought it was a great touch. My wife had a quesdilla which I couldn't actually try (I glanced hard and no offer was made, i got the hint) but it looked fantastic. Overall this place is very good, the one thing I will say is the guacamole. As good as the salsas and food were, I expected the guacamole to hit. When you yourself are adding salt to your own guac, there is a breakdown somewhere. It had chopped tomatoes but needs cilantro and/or onions at a minimum. Papa's and Bear was too crowded so we found this place as alternative for Mexican food. Turns out its located inside a gas station. It was very busy with both eat in and take out orders. Can be a bit confusing to find, but they're located inside the Chevron gas station mart. I think the attendant was a bit reluctant to take my order, she kind of just stared at me then went to her coworker who told her to take my order - so the customer service started off weird. On top of another staff member sneezing and not covering her mouth or washing her hands. I think me giving them a look made them tell her to change her gloves. Either way I made sure to watch who was making my order. I've lived just a block away and have been coming here regularly for the past 10 years. Tucked inside the gas station, this spot is one of those hidden gems that make you question how a gas station could serve such delicious food, but they do! The burritos are amazing, the tacos are incredible, and their chips with mild green salsa are hands down the best in town. The place is always busy, never empty, but the staff works hard to get your food out quickly. The biggest downside is the price it's definitely gone up quite a bit over the years, making it harder to eat here as often as I'd like. However, it's still a great treat every once in a while. Was craving a breakfast burrito and saw so many good reviews for this place so decided to go for it. Appreciated the heads up that the place was located in a gas station, if I didn't know otherwise I probably have been very confused haha. I kinda love that it's in a gas station, makes it feel like a local secret. They get busy over the weekends; we ordered in person and had to wait about 25 minutes, so I would recommend placing an order ahead for pickup. I got the carne asada breakfast burrito, no cheese, with everything else in it + avocado. I saw recs to get the habanero salsa but it was way too spicy for me. It comes with a handful of chips that are seasoned well and tasty. The burrito was really good, it had chunks of carne asada inside. It's not the best breakfast burrito of my life but it's definitely up there. Probably the best in the city for me. And reasonably priced. When I come here I spend $40, $60, sometimes $100 just for food. The guy at the front desk has the nerve to tell me salsa is in the bag, never asked me what kind I wanted. If I ask for one of each and I'm spending $20 per bowl I shouldn't have to get charged an extra $3 dollars just for salsa. As I'm waiting for the Salsa his female coworker makes a smart remark in Spanish to him regarding the salsa, under the assumption that I don't speak or understand Spanish. I felt very disrespected. Cilantro is honestly the best. We order it at least once a week ! They have my favorite breakfast burrito in the city (hot tip: get carne asada as your meat and add bacon) and it's served all day ! Their salsas are incredible and their chicken al pastor is honestly out of this world. I'll be honest -- I was a little skeptical about Cilantro Mexican Grill since it's inside a gas station. But after so many people recommended it, I had to give it a shot... and I'm so glad I did. The food here is incredible. There are about 10 parking spots, a good amount of seating inside (maybe 10-15 tables), and food takes about 15-20 minutes. I got the breakfast burrito with carne asada and bacon -- packed with flavor, crispy potatoes, juicy meat -- honestly some of the best-tasting carne asada I've had. Big plus: they give you free chips and salsa, and they have a toppings station with radishes, pickled veggies, and grilled, seasoned jalapeños. Grab the jalapeños and radishes -- they take the meal to the next level. We also tried the grilled shrimp taco (don't be scared -- it was fresh, juicy, and perfectly cooked) and the carne asada taco, which was just as amazing. Since my last review, we've been coming back to Cilantro Mexican Grill more often, and I'm happy to say they've really stepped up their game. The quality of the food is great--fresh, flavorful, and consistent. It's clear they're putting care into their dishes. Of course, like any busy kitchen, there have been a few mix-ups here and there, but nothing major or unexpected. The area for seating is great inside the gas station. My main complaints are that it can take quite a while to get your food, especially when it's busy, and the prices are on the higher side compared to other spots. Their vegetarian options are stellar and most are vegan by default or an easy mod away. Tried medium heat for most things and wishing I'd good up to hot or habanero as I love the spice! Medium felt like mild to be, but still enjoyable. Agua Frescas... Mas alla de delicioso!! Like so yum!! Strawberry Coconut y/o Sandia (watermelon). They have tables and chairs inside if you want to dine in (though limited), spots outside if you want to foodie tailgate from your car and offer delivery or pickup/takeout.
