I always enjoy going with my 2 daughters and enjoy the cheaper prices for movies and popcorn/candy/beverages. Nice being able to move around with young ones, easier at this theatre for us. My main thing is please change the cleaning solution in your bathrooms, your men's bathrooms have smelled nasty the last 5 times I've gone there or so. We went there with a Groupon deal. I hadn't been to a cinema grill since I was in grade school. I remember going to the one in Edina and they basically had an old rear projection TV. Even as an elementary school student, I remember thinking it was lame. Fast forward around 20 years to the New Hope Cinema Grill. It is located in a somewhat run down strip mall near a laundromat and a check cashing place. However, once you go inside, it is pretty modern and clean. Tickets are cheap, even without a Groupon ($4 on a Saturday night). There are two theaters. Ours was pretty large. It is clean and the chairs are pretty comfortable. A very large 40 foot screen, digital projection, and good sound. Menu prices are reasonable ($7 for a burger, $14 for pizza). They also serve a few local beers such as Surly. Our waiter was very personable and helpful with pretty fast service. Our only negative experiences were that the kitchen was a little loud, so whenever a server would go through the doors, it was a little distracting with loud talking and the other usual kitchen sounds. The main problem was the pizza. It was just not good. We both gave up after a couple bites. It seemed like it was prepared from frozen pizza. Very greasy. Bland and soggy crust. Cheap pepperoni. I haven't sent food back to the kitchen in my 29 years. Our waiter was very sympathetic and offered to take half off, which I was happy with. He actually ended up taking it off the bill completely. Long story short, good service, good movie, good atmosphere, skip the pizza and don't sit by the kitchen. Went for a little Valentines date with my mom (awwww!!) and we had a great time. I was a little surprised to see so few people there considering the venue would have been great for all those last-minute non-planners who spent most of the day calling around to every restaurant in town begging for a 7:00 reservation for two....sigh. Not that the ambiance was anything terribly romantic (although everything was well-kept and clean), but the couple behind us with the bottle of red wine to share seemed to be getting along just fine. As the other reviewers noted, the admission price is a relative steal, and the casual dining prices were reasonable. I got a chicken cobb salad and a pitcher of Surly Furious for maybe less than I would have spent on candy, popcorn, and soda at the big places. Our server was friendly and attentive, and the service around us was noticeably quiet so that everyone could enjoy the show. I knew pretty much right away that I'd be back when we were sitting in our swiveling office chairs before the movie had even started and I excitedly turned to my mom and said, "This is so fun!" Two part review, but only one set of stars. Comedy 4 stars. (I have to compare to Acme as this is my main reference) Stage is plain, but effective. Seating for a comedy show is not bad, I think all seats have a good view. Comics are 3-1/2 stars with a few good 5 star national comics. Food 3 stars. Food is okay, but over priced for what you get. You can't even get a decent burger with an extra or two for less than $9. A plain chicken sandwich is $8, start adding tomatoes and bacon and the waffle fries and you may as well have the steak for about the same price. They have a new order system for the wait staff that works better and has quicker delivery, but I wish they would start serving earlier so I can watch the comics and not be shoving food at my face in the dark. We've gone to movies here several times. They are like $3-$4, depending on your age, which is fine. We went for comedy this weekend, as our kids were with someone else. The show was awesome, Our server and food were very good. I didn't have cash and the credit card machine was down. The website clearly states that the comedy shows are $15. I'm expecting a charge for $30. Because their credit card machine was down, I got slapped with a $36 charge, and the manager (who has been there for 2 1/2 years and knows everything, just ask her) wouldn't do anything for us because the front desk dude had to do our tickets online and there's a $3 service charge for doing that. It's not our fault that their machine was broken. The way that manager spoke to us and the lack of respect that she showed us is enough to keep us away from a place that we otherwise really enjoy going to. read more

Went for the NFC playoffs and they seemed very overwhelmed by the crowd. They sat everyone and should know staffing levels and anticipate the crowd. They ran out of pitchers and food was almost an hour to get out. Server was overwhelmed. Waited over thirty minutes to pay. I actually love this place. I love the fact that I can kill 2 birds with one stone by having dinner and seeing a movie all at once. The food is actually really really good! They have delicious waffle fries and seasoned sour cream. The only down side for me is you have to choose your seating carefully, otherwise you may not be able to see over the guy with the big head that sat in front of you! I also wished they had a wider variety of adult titles. It seems like most of the time when I check out what is playing, it's children's movies for the most part. What a great time. My wife and I went to see a movie here tonight. We have been here many times before, and have always enjoyed the food and the atmosphere. I was here for local filmmaker, Doug Phillips, premier of his new feature. He also showed a short and a couple of mini shorts. It's a cool venue for local artists films. It's quite a different experience. They have wait staff taking orders and delivering food, constantly, including popcorn. Not a bad concept. The round tables are very small, and the seating can be uncomfortable. But you can switch from a chair to a vinyl type seat, and get fairly comfortable. It's weird to see everyone noshing while watching a movie. Kind of like eating in your living room, which I often do with one exception. The circulation is poor, and the stench makes you want to heave. But for a local film, and inviting your friends to join in the festivities, it's not a bad deal at all. I'm not sure how many screens they have, but I believe we were in the largest room, and the bathrooms are right off of it. Huge parking lot, too. read more

I love the cinema grill concept and NHCG does it affordably. Yes, it is not as fancy as the West End but the price does match this. There is always some sort of deal for tickets (groupon, coupon books, etc.) and the food is decent for a theater. Typically I stick with the fries and split soda / beer with my companions. Tickets are cheap, food was a little spendy. The theatre is old and needs a serious update, but you get what you pay for. It was fun being able to have a beer and watch the movie. Don't get the pizza...it's gross. We were worried about it being too loud with people eating all around us but it wasn't too bad. The waiters do walk through constantly and that can be distracting. We really like this place for family movies and food. It's local, affordable, and everyone can find something they like. We've been coming here since our kids were very young, and have done everything from birthday parties to adult evenings. The price for the movie is great! However if you plan to eat lunch or dinner there, it's expensive. For two adults and one kids ordering burgers and fries was about 50 dollars (with one soda each). Next time we will skip the meal and maybe just order an appetizer or two to share. The chairs are very minimally padded and began to be uncomfortable half way through (They are more your standard kitchen table chairs than movie theatre chairs). Good cheap date night option. We don't see many movies in the theater so this is a good option to see movies at a discounted rate in a casual setting. My buddy and I watched the comedian Kevin Farley here at the end of February. I didn't have any of the food but the staff were super friendly, and my beer was served cold. The beer costed about what I would expect from any other bar. The place is well kept and it was fun to play some Skiball after I was done. I love that they bring comedians of some name recognition into New Hope. Too bad that I missed out on Louie Anderson. read more

Nice cheap movie. But the food is awful and over priced. Cost us $60 for 2 adults and a 3 year old and the was matinee pricing. Got the wrong drink, which happens, new drink took 45 minutes, was almost done choking down the gross burger before it came. Better food at McDonalds. Man, what a great and unique place! My wife and I bought a Groupon for this place a few weeks a go and decided to make it out this weekend. While checking their webstite we saw they did LIVE COMEDY! What's better than a movie? Comedy! They do comedy every Saturday night and we bought tickets online to Dave Mordal. I've never heard of him but my wife remembers him from Last Comic Standing. Not a bad catch for a local club! Ticket prices at a very reasonable $15/person. When we got there the place was packed! Even so they had plenty of FREE parking! We checked in at their ticket booth and the employee there answered all our questions since it was our first time. People were lined up in the hall waiting for our theater to open. Seeing sooo many people walk out of the previous showing of a movie (well over 100 people) I was so shocked of how quickly they cleaned and reset the entire theater! Those guys know how to work quick. Once the doors opened they had seats assigned and we simply gave our name and were escorted to our table. We were in the middle of the theater, but to be honest, all the seats looked good. Menus right on the table we were able to see what we wanted before the server ever made it to our table (which only took a few minutes). They serve beer, wine, and liquor so I was able to get my Surly and my wife ordered a cocktail. Our neighbors had a giant fishbowl to share their drink which looked delicious! Our server was great! He took our order completely when he came to introduce himself. They had a packed room and we knew he had tons of other orders to take, but he stayed and offered his suggestions and didn't rush us at all. He mentioned they were very busy in the kitchen but assured our food and drinks would arrive soon. Drinks came in just a few minutes and food took a bit longer. They had servers running food to the packed theater the entire time. Those guys and gals worked their butts off and it showed. They were sure to stay out of the way and wearing all back, I practically didn't notice them at all! Anyway, drinks were good, food was great, service was awesome, show was hilarious, and price was unbeatable. We will be back next weekend to watch a movie! Even with a theater full of people, I am frankly amazed how much of a well oiled machine the Cinema Grill is. They do what they do best and they do it well! 5- starts! read more

We went tonight and after spending over $50 on admission and food, they refused to give our kids water, unless we wanted to spend $1.50 for each bottle. I didn't even think this was legal. They also don't do refills on soda either, even most of the movie theaters these day do that and they all will give you a glass of water. read more

Comedians met or exceeded expectations. For $15 my expectations were relatively low but I got a good number of chuckles out of a 1 hr and 45 min show, so I thought that was a good value. My primary complaint was the service. I walked in and there was no one obviously working there, and it wasn't clear if I self seat or wait to be seated. Finally clarified it was self seat and sat down and waited quite awhile (10 min?) to make an order for a drink and small popcorn, noting I planned to order other food later. Popcorn and drink arrived expeditiously, so that was good, and it was followed by the waitress checking on me immediately. That was literally the last time I saw of the waitress until she brought my bill over an hour later at the closing of the show! I never got a chance to order other food or a drinks, and did not care for the way-too-sweet fishbowl I ordered. For that reason alone I don't think I'll return. Don't hold yourself out as a place you can order food and drinks throughout the show if your only opportunity is in the first 15 minutes. read more

I wish I could give zero stars for this place. My husband and I had an absolutely horrible time at this theater tonight. We have been coming here with our three children for at least a decade and have had no issues. Tonight, however, they chose to charge us more than the price advertised for a meal in their menu and then threatened to ban us from the theater when we respectfully protested. Zack, the manager on duty, was rude and dismissive, and his handling of our concern was entirely disrespectful and inappropriate. We will be following up with management. I went a few weeks ago and got there early as other yelpers advised. Smurfs had just been shown in the theater that the movie I was going to see was in and it was a WRECK. We waited 45 minutes for them to clean the place and were finally allowed in 5 minutes before the movie was scheduled to start. They need more screens at this place. Should have two showings of every movie offered and have a screen just for kids movies. When we walked in after they cleaned there was a funk in the air. It really did not go away. I may go back but not sure if it is worth half price given the hassle of only having one show-time (makes it hard to go during the week) and not being able to get in till 5 minutes before the show. read more

The food is nothing special, but it's pretty good, and it's so much fun to be able to eat, have a beer or a glass of wine, and take in a movie on the big screen. As you might imagine, this is a family joint, and there will be children running around during the movie. I am writing to inform everybody about a horrible experience that my party of 4 experienced last night at the Common Man stand up show. After sitting down to our table, we had 3 wait staff come up to give us an order than we never put in not knowing where they were supposed to go with the order. I can understand one wait staff coming to us confused, but 3 shows us that nobody knew what they were supposed to do. After almost 40 minutes of sitting there waiting to put in our order, my boyfriend had to finally ask another waiter that clearly was not the waiter that was supposed to help us, but was kind enough to take our order and help us. After we got our food and drinks around 9:00pm, we did not see the waiter until around 10:00pm when he finally came back to ask us if we needed anything else. We said no, and asked for our check and 15 minutes later we received the check. We got our cards out right away, but the waiter already walked off, and we sat there for about 20-30 minutes before two of us finally went up and tracked down a different waitress to take our tab because we were wanting to leave, and so she did. She came back to tell us that she left our tab and credit cards by the computer for our waiter to see because he needed to put in his number to close out the tab. Finally at 10:45-10:50 he gave us our cards back and we were able to leave. I understand that it was a busy night, but I feel though that the wait staff should of been more organized. Not including the 3 DIFFERENT wait staff that tried to give us an order that was not ours, we noticed at least 5 other people who experienced the same thing. While the show was a lot of fun, and Common Man and the rest of the comedians put on a great show, I was very disappointed in the experienced we received from the staff.
