Took my mom here for lunch since we were in the area and it did not disappoint. We ordered the wild mushroom flatbread, fried calamari and Brussels blue. The flatbread was tasty and cheesy. The fried calamari was nicely battered and had a nice crunch. I wasn't a fan of the Brussels blue since it was super bitter but everything else was great. I also ordered the grapefruit rose fizz and enjoyed it. Service was on the slower side but I didn't mind. read more

Getting reservations in the city always seems to be hard, but at Circa it wasn't. Very easy and flexible staff! There was a decent amount of outdoor covered seating and lots of indoor seating. I really do wish they had fans outside on their patio as that would make it a million times better. The fried calamari with fried artichoke was phenomenal. The braised short rib meal was good but had way too much salt in it. I wish I was able to taste the natural flavors of the gravy, spinach, beef, and mashed potatoes instead all were individually loaded with a lot of salt. I've been here a few times, as I live in the neighborhood, but am finally reviewing today. Went to brunch here for the first time and it was surprisingly good --surprising because so many places have such mediocre food at brunch. The avocado toast was very well conceived, with grilled onions, tomatoes, feta, and chili oil. The heat from the chili oil is a real difference maker, and much better than the balsamic you might otherwise find on something like this. The flavors combined really well. Get a side of bacon regardless of what you order. It's just the right thickness and fried up well. Not overly greasy. Their brunch potatoes are great, but they're almost as much peppers and onions as they are potatoes. I happen to love that, but some might not. Service was good and prompt. From other visits, I have to recommend the calamari starter/small plate as well. They prepare it with kalamata olives and artichokes, which is unique and works well. read more

Man, this was a really good one. Totally didn't expect it to be as good as it was. We were at a loss for trying to figure out where to eat in Navy Yard and came across this place and we are so happy we did. Mind you, it was JAM PACKED. How they were able to handle the flow of patrons and foot traffic was impressive but they had several managers on hand. Since the Red Hot Chili Peppers were playing at the stadium nearby, the streets were filled with people and this place got hit hard. We had to sit in the bar area which was fine and on top of that it was happy hour. They had a good selection of happy hour items. I had to get a Moscow Mule as I had been craving one. My dad had a beer and my mom a glass of wine. I have to say my BBQ Chicken pizza was the best one I have ever had. I've had one a California Pizza Kitchen in Miami and at Grand Lux Cafe in Miami and this one blew both of those away. I'm such a BBQ sauce person (ketchup never) but BBQ yes and I'm pretty good at discerning what's good quality BBQ sauce and what's not because restaurants sometimes lord it up with artifices flavors or make it overly sweet or overly bitter. This was just right. They loaded it up with onions and cilantro and the chicken had that mesquite smoky taste so it really added more flavor to the dish. My parents pizza's were just as good. We also started with fried calamari (again just as good). I love to sprinkle lemon to add that extra bit of zest to it so it's nice when chefs add that lemon for garnish. What it made it a great experience was being waited on by the manager. When I see managers get involved and get hands on, it shows that they really care and take pride in what they do and demonstrates real leadership. He was attentive and patient as we did take time deciding on our meals. He didn't push us or try to upsell us. He let us be. We also didn't wait long for our meals and when we ordered a second round of drinks they arrived just as promptly. I wish there was a Circa in Philly as I know I would go if they did. If I'm ever in DC again and namely Navy Yard, I would definitely go back. Thanks to the managers for a great experience :) read more

Yesterday I had the opportunity to visit Circa at Navy Yard for the first time. I have been to the Washington DC area many times - however, I had not been to this restaurant and was excited to try it! I am all about convenience, not for myself but for others, so my friend and I ensured we had a 7PM reservation. We arrived 10 minutes early, and the aesthetic was full swing post work, meet a friend for happy hour vibes. They have a bar, high top, tabletop, and booth seating. Excited about the experience, my friend approached the host, as the reservation was under his name. They asked us if we preferred a booth or tabletop seating, and we both agreed upon a booth. However, the host then told us there was a 15-minute wait for a booth. I scanned the seating area and noticed an open booth next to a patron where the host had just sat before us. I did not say anything because I did not want to make assumptions; however, the booth remained empty the entire 15 minutes we waited. Moreover, a party that arrived after us was seated in the empty booth. Determined not to let it deter me from enjoying ourselves, we elected to go with a half booth, half table option. Shortly after we were seated, we were greeted by whom we thought would be our waiter and asked for our drink orders. I love a sweeter wine, so I asked our waiter which wine would be the best from their white wine selections that would accommodate my palate. The waiter suggested the Riesling - Firestone Vineyards, California '20. I trusted this suggestion, as I was recently introduced to a Riesling served at Maru Sushi & Grill that I enjoyed. However, this Riesling was more on the dry side and was served to me in a brandy glass because the restaurant was out of wine glasses. Our small plate was the Pretzel Loaf served with whole-grained mustard butter. The pretzel loaf was soft, warm, and flavorful, especially with the butter spread. The pretzel loaf was a nice merge of salty and savory. I would recommend this small plate. For my entrée, I ordered the scallops, which came on a bed of summer corn succotash, sweet corn puree, charred lemon emulsion, and chives. I love scallops, so I was very excited for my entrée. The scallops were good; they were not overcooked, and the corn succotash and grilled lemon emulsion had great flavor; however, the sweet corn puree was more on the bland side. I do not know if that is intentional since it is the base of the dish, and the goal is not to clash with the other flavors, but I was looking for a sweeter base. We had chocolate chip cookies for dessert, three warm cookies on an entrée plate. The cookies were freshly baked, but you could tell they were not homemade in-house. We had a different server bring our drinks, small plate, entrée, and dessert throughout our visit. I think it is the restaurant's way of trying to be efficient for the customer in a face pace environment, but it's not streamlined and causes slight confusion. Yet, the pricing of the food was very affordable. The total bill, including a 20% tip, was under $100 for two people. I would say that is a great price point for two drinks, one small plate, two entrees, and a dessert! If customer service and experience are not consequential (or a factor) to you, and you are, looking for an affordable place to meet up during happy hour with satisfactory food, you should check this place out if you are in the area. This spot is really delicious! I adore their cheesecake, as the Oreo-crumble bottom is amazing. I've deducted a few stars because the food quality isn't consistent. The first time I had their Brussels sprouts, I loved them. The next time I had them, there was so much oil or maybe it was balsamic vinegar at the bottom that it overpowered the dish and made me cough occasionally. It would also be great if the employees stopped by more frequently to see if we needed more drinks, but overall a great place in Navy Yard. read more

Pretty cute and nice spot! Went here on a date. Unfortunately the waiter was not very attentive to detail (kept forgetting to fill up my water) but other than that I had a very pleasant experience! My party and I came to Circa to celebrate my mom's birthday dinner. Everything we had was delicious! We started with the Brussels sprouts and macaroni which were a hit. To be honest I think those were the best restaurant Brussels sprouts I've had. The melted blue cheese was a complimentary balance to the balsamic, and they were cooked perfectly. I had the quinoa salad as my entree, which was delicious and filling. We finished with the bread pudding and cheesecake. All very good. The highlight of this experience was the customer service we received following a snafu with our meal. Amazing quinoa and veggie salad! Loved the beets, dressing and marinated shallots. The shrimp on top tasted very fresh and was lightly seasoned. Even with DC in phase 2, we are still a little wary about eating inside a restaurant near other people. We were so glad to see that CIRCA already had a nice outdoor space. We reserved a table on Open Table and getting seated was no problem at all. The brussel sprouts were delicious and the food was so beautiful and some of the best I've had in DC. The short rib was melt in your mouth soft. The Atlantic salmon was perfectly cooked. The cauliflower under the salmon, I almost couldn't tell it wasn't mashed potatoes! Man, it was just a good experience all around. It was my girlfriend's birthday too and they put a candle in the ice cream when they served it. Our waiter was very safe as was the rest of the staff. CIRCA staff all had masks on, they are participating in contactless menus and paying. It was great and seamless. Our waiter kept his distance while our masks were off and eating. We were looking for a spot near our hotel, and Circa fit the bill. There was a lot to choose from on the menu, which is perfect when going with a group. I got some sort of seasonal veggie bowl and added salmon. It was tasty and filling. Most of the other entrees were on the smaller side. The drinks didn't taste balanced -- they were a tad alcohol heavy, but still good. I'd go back but I'd also be down to try many other options in the area. read more

Unpopular opinion-this is a more expensive Applebees. I had heard from so many people how fantastic this restaurant was and to say I was surprised is a bit of an understatement. I walked in, good vibe, mixed crowd, doesn't feel like a Navy Yard crowd but it was on a Nats game day. I looked at the menu and thought...oh shit, I'm at a cross between Cheesecake Factory and Applebees. Pricing to align with restaurants in the area and everything felt very commercial. I liked my food-the salmon, would def order it again. My homegirl also liked her food, said she would order again. That's what matters, right? They played fantastic music-R&B from the early 2000's, early 90s hip hop, I thoroughly enjoyed the mix. Our server was also extremely kind, 5 stars for him. Overall, food was good but there were no dishes I had never heard of or something that seemed exclusive to them.
