Went here for Valentine's Day and thoroughly enjoyed it! The ambience was fitting for an intimate date night. The service was great and the food was very tasty. We ended up sitting next to a couple who was great company. We all had the Valentine's tasting menu in which we were bought various dishes, one after the other. Each dish had its own personality lol they were tasty and light, just enough to satisfy us with hot being full or stuffed. My favorite was the pan seared scallop (fyi-I'm not much of a meat eater, but indulged for the occasion) I would def recommend this place and plan to revisit again. read more

I'm writing an updated review since I've been here twice after the disappointing first time. The second time around was really good. My friend and I ordered maitake mushrooms (a bit dry), lamb chops that were falling of the bone and were also a tad dry but still good, and an absolutely amazing branzino. The third time I was here I got a boar stew which was pretty salty (the issue I ran into during my first time here). Overall, it's a decent place that has potential but there are some inconsistencies. read more

My husband and I went here for date night! I've been meaning to check out this wine bar for awhile now but never had time to before. We made reservations and we're immediately seated when we walked in. The place was small but super cute! For appetizers we decided to get the spicy shrimp and escargot. Whenever I see escargot on the menu I have to try it out since you generally don't see it. Spicy shrimp had the right amount of spice :) the escargot was buttery and delicious. There was bread to soak the juices in. Yum! For entrees I decided to the the lamb while my husband got the veal parmesan. Since I have a nut allergy and let the waiter know the chief was about to adjust the lamb dish without pesto. Lamb was cooked beautifully and I felt the portion size was just right. It came with roasted asparagus and potatoes. My husband enjoyed his meal as well. We ended the meal with tiramisu. Presentation was beautiful! It was also very delicious however I wish the lady fingers were soaked alittle more so it wasnt hard. Overall a very good meal and I would love to come back and try more of the menu :) read more

Owner Venu never disappoints in his ventures and this is next level! In their first week of opening, we had a much needed respite from noise and craziness. At first we were the only patrons (with an early reservation) but even as the place filled up, it remained a good place to feel cozy and have a conversation. It was so hard to decide what to order but with help from Venu and our fabulous server we made all our decisions. And we cant wait to try more! We started with old fashions (with the good cherry!), then moved to wine which was expertly chosen by our server. He allowed us to taste and nailed it! All of the food from start to finish was top notch and had generous portions for a restaurant of this type. But for me, the star was the gnocchi salad. Just incredible. How? I don't know, but I ate every last bite. The bone marrow was a first for me! And it delivered a savory, buttery, goodness where each flavor was delicate yet bold. Tuna crudo was definitely something I'd order over and over. My spouse thought it was too heavy on citrus but I love citrus. Wish we had room for sweets! Cant wait to try out happy hour! Keep in mind that this establishment is only open Thursday-Saturday. We went on a Thursday. When I walked in, the place had a weird smell and shortly after, I realized why. I noticed a staff member emptying a trash can full of trash that was obviously from the previous Saturday when they were last open. The trash in the bathroom was completely full as well. Our reservation was for when they first opened and so, the trash had to have been sitting there all week hence the bad smell when I first walked in. I considered leaving, however, the other person in my party had not arrived yet. We decided to stay and we both ordered a glass of wine. Both of our wine's were good, however, the pour was very small. We opted for the 4 course tasting menu for $39 per person. The first course was a truffle mushroom soup that was good and probably my favorite. The second course was a shrimp and scallop crudo which was ok but nothing spectacular. The third course was a clam risotto which was pretty good. The last course was dessert. It seemed like the dessert was not made at the restaurant but bought elsewhere. The restaurant was very casual and most of the people in there were locals that came in for cheesesteak night and not the tasting menu. We expected it to be more polished after reading review online and the fact that it had a chef's tasting menu. Ciro strikes again the food was fresh, flavorful, and fast! Chef DiBianca and Chef Rust spot on with every dish! Even though what I ordered was à la carte every dish paired well with each other. Owner Venu worked the floor magically even assisted me with a Champagne selection. My waiters held every plate with the culinary prestige it deserved including those not coming to my table. I've been wanting to try out the Chef's Tasting Menu at Ciro after a foodie friend recommended the restaurant. Girlfriends and I went last night for my birthday and we were all impressed with the food. We had a tuna tartare to start, a seared scallop as second, pork as our third course and a chocolate s'more concoction for our fourth course. Small portions but that's what you'd expect from most establishments like this one who are aiming for fine dining food with a casual environment. We tried three of the four cocktails they offer. They were good but all of these three had ginger beer so they may want to expand in that department. read more

I visited Ciro on 4/21/22 and did the 6-course Chefs Tasting Menu with my husband. The experience was delightful and well worth the money. Several of our dishes were phenomenal Including the salmon w/ pineapple and the pork w/ grits. The carrot cake they served for the dessert course was unique and unlike any desert I've tasted before. I am not a fan of carrot cake but the gingerbread notes and flambéed top made it irresistible. The salmon and albacore tuna dishes seemed to melt in your mouth. Deconstructed crab cake. I think about it all the time. It's sooooo good. First time went as a group and ordered LOTS. Got to try a little of everything and everything was amazing. Husband loves cheese and ordered a cheese plate just for him. He was in heaven. Gnocchi salad is great, burratta was amazing, braised bacon YES. Bone Marrow is supposed to be gold but I can't do it. First, I will say don't show up early. Our reservations were for 8, didn't get seated until 845 with the first course coming after 9. Second, don't do the wine pairing. 55$ for wines that didn't pair with the food nor were they decent wines at all. I understand that it's a chef tasting, however these were the smallest serving sizes of any chef tastings that I have ever been to. The price definitely did not add up to what was placed in front of you. Don't come here hungry, eat prior or plan somewhere after. Lot of hype for this place overall we left disappointed. Also, don't offer someone something to drink while waiting 30 minutes past your reservation and not tell them that it's a 20$ a glass wine... Our bill was $300, however we're driving to get dinner now.. and a 20$ bottle of wine read more

We've been twice now, and have not been disappointed. The food is phenomenal ! Tonights stand out was the Lobster and Crab Gnocchi, which is everything you want on a cold night. The beautifully made gnocchi compliments the huge lump crab and succulent lobster tail in the perfect sauce, with just the little bit of kick that you want. Perfection! The other standouts were the pumpkin ravioli and sweet cauliflower. We also tried the Kobe Ribs and the Duck Breast - i personally would've preferred the duck cooked a little more but thats just my preference, it was a perfect medium rare and the flavors were all right! I'm obsessed with this place! Phenomenal food that rivals those of the fanciest and nicest establishments in Philly. Ciro is truly a hidden gem and they know how to do food right! We had the NY strip (cooked perfectly to our preference!), seared duck, shrimp and grits, and Gorgonzola Mac and cheese. We loved it all but the duck, steak and Mac were the highlights. I am in the area about once a month and my wife and I had always been big fans of Moro and were sad when it closed. When I read that Chef DiBianca was finally back, I knew we had to go. We had the tasting menu with wine pairings and Chef DiBianca did not disappoint. Dishes were well thought out and delicious. Scallop Ceviche, wild mushroom risotto, and soft shell crab were a few of the highlights. Chatted with the owner, Venu, what a nice guy, even recommended a place to go after dinner. Service was on point, professional and friendly. After leaving I realized I had left my sunglasses there. I called and Venu told me he had them. I drove back but I had trouble finding a spot to park so I called the restaurant, but hung up because I found a place to pull in my car. Venu had called me back! And anticipating that I would have trouble finding a spot was waiting outside for me with my glasses!!! Amazing! What a nice and thoughtful guy. Will definitely be back. read more

I last night I went for my very first chef tasting event and first time at the restaurant. Upon entering, it was messy and appeared disorganized. When making the reservation, we were asked to be there 15 minutes early, which I was informed was to ensure that dinner could start on time. Dinner started 20 minutes late. We started with cocktails. I ordered a Carribean Old Fashioned. The drink had good flavor but appeared to be watered down. I mentioned this to the server. He took my drink and the bartender added more liquor to the drink. Sad to say that this did not improve the drink. We had the 21Spoons menu. The highlight of the menu was the duck enchilada which was the tiniest of portions. Maybe it was just because I wanted more... at one point the server brought out our tasting and my friends bowl was full and mine was less than half full. I made a comment about this and he told me that that's how the chef does it sometimes. He just grabs some and puts it in a bowl without measuring. When I asked if he could have him fill my bowl as I had seen others, he walked away without a word. Some of the food was not my particular taste but some people really seemed to enjoy it. I enjoyed the experience of having my first tasting menu but I don't believe that I would come back to eat at this restaurant. I did not enjoy the flavor of the majority of the food or the cocktails. UuThe service and ambiance also left something to be desired. We went over to the market after dinner and it was messy and disorganized. Great tapas restaurant on the Wilmington waterfront across from the "shipping container park". Half of the space is liquor store and half is the restaurant with an open kitchen in the rear and a small 6 person cocktail bar area in the front, dining area lining the walls through the middle. The service was excellent and the wine list was amazing. The wine menu offered numbered matches with all of the food menu items. Why don't more places do this? It made it super easy for me to compliment my meal with the appropriate wines (since we weren't doing the wine pairing menu, it was nice to not have to think about matching up food and drink on the extensive menus). The amuse Bouche was one of the best I've had, green hummus on a nicely seasoned and toasted bite sized pita wedge. We ordered 4 proteins and 3 veggies for our party of 6. All of the items were unexpected when they arrived with most unique flavors and presentation. We had a birthday party and they provided a dessert for sharing amongst the table. Bravo to the chef and the restaurant. My only suggestion would be to provide pillows or cushions on the bench seating area because some in our group were sitting in a hard backed bench and their back became a bit sore- I thought this a good idea as well to cozy it up a bit. Was in town for a business meeting and had some time to kill before heading to the Philadelphia Airport. Read a review about the gnocchi salad and WOW... what a great dish. I wasn't interested in a full meal, and this both hit the spot as a lighter dish, but it was VERY flavorful. They were very accommodating of letting me sit and get some work done and take things slow. I had the Caribbean Old Fashion as well and it was fantastic. We did the 6 course tasting menu again. Once again, It was fabulous. I look at any menu and think, " Gee, I want one of everything." The tasting menu is pretty much exactly that. This time we got servings of tuna tartar, shrimp, pork belly, lamb ragu, osso bucco and a great dessert. The wine pairings were also great. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Great little restaurant! Went here with my husband for a date night. We order the chef's cheese board and some lamb ribs. It was very tasty. My only complaint was that the ribs were a little dry and could have used a sauce for dipping. The restaurant itself is fairly small, but they are serving big tasting food! read more

I feel horrible writing this but I have to be honest. Food wasn't just average. It was subpar. Went with 3 other couples for the $109pp chefs table tasting menu to celebrate two birthdays. The chefs table is a high top cramped between cardboard boxes, refrigerators, exposed wiring, the one stall bathroom and the "kitchen". The table had no railing at in the middle to rest your feet, so unless you tucked your feet behind your chair you feet were just dangling -very uncomfortable for hours of sitting. We were offered sparkling water or flat when we were sat. Half wanted sparking but then we were informed they had none chilled so flat it was until about halfway through the meal. Lol We were served peeled grapes with raw tuna, shrimp with corn, peeled tomato on cheese grits. Rabbit on a ravioli, lamb t bone on pea purée , cut of beef with a cream sauce and a dessert tray. The grapes and tuna plate was different and ok but everything was the same texture and color. The shrimp were partially uncooked. Two guests had a shrimp that was warm and a shrimp that was still gray and chilly. When questioned, the server informed them that's how it's supposed to be. The peeled (steamed?) tomato with cheese grits was the star of the show. Delicious. The rabbit was cubed and seemed boiled in tomato broth. Tasted like very chewy boiled chicken. Zero flavor. The single pesto filled ravioli it was served over was tasty. The skinny lamb t bone on pea purée was beyond salty and chewy. After just trying to chew the rabbit I was looking forward to tender lamb when i saw it being served and yet it would not come off the bone. My one girlfriend tried chewing it off like a lamb chop and halfway through had to give up. We let the server know that 6 out of the 8 couldn't eat the lamb and nothing was done about it. Our plates were just taken away. The beef course was served with a cream sauce on the bottom with a leaf of spinach. My beef could not be cut. Even with a steak knife the piece was mostly fat and tendon. Others also had that problem or their beef was blue rare. The server told us it was a special cut. 5 asked for a refire I asked if I could get a new piece it was obvious my attempts to cut off a piece to put in my mouth were completely unsuccessful and you could see all of the stringy white tendon bits and opaque fat holding it all together. My plate was taken away and it was returned with the same piece just cooked now. My husband reminded the server nicely that my piece was inedible and the server took it back to the chef only feet from us and there was a ton of grumbling. I did receive a new piece. But it was Super salty and no longer with the cream sauce but obviously with a quick redo of grits that hadn't finished cooking. The experience at that point had been so lost on me. Those three meat plates were all terrible. The desserts were the best part of the meal. Plenty for everyone. Shared plates of chocolate ganache pie, spiced cake, flan and mango crème brûlée. All in with a couple of drinks it was $315 per couple We definitely did not feel the meal was worth the price. It was surprising how poorly prepared all of the meat dishes were-or else they were terrible cuts of those meats. However Good company always makes the meal so at least we enjoyed ourselves still-we just will not be returning. read more

In short, the oysters served were mucky and had a foul order and then I found a hair in my salmon entree. Went for the second time to get the tasting menu. The flavors were decent but most dishes of the 5 course menu were WAY too salty - especially the tuna tartar and lamb. Bottom line: food is great, the wine phenomenal, but the service doesn't reflect those elements of dinner here. I loved the food elements of my meal at Ciro. The food has clearly high quality ingredients, and the wine that you will receive as a pairing is phenomenal. When I visited, an option (that I sadly did not order) was acorn-fed Iberian ham. What I did order--including a particularly memorable pheasant--was cooked expertly and tasted delicious. I was also tickled by some of the other lesser-seen items on the tasting, including a white Pinot noir (try it), venison, and truffles (the mushroom kind, not the chocolate kind). It's true that service is slow--my wife and I spent about four hours over our tasting meal--but I really enjoyed that aspect of dinner, especially because I had a great conversational partner with me. In this respect, service shined; there was at no point a feeling of being rushed to leave. What could use some improvement, however, is the service. It wasn't bad by any means, just... perfunctory. At other restaurants at this price point that I've been to (Domaine Hudson, William and Merry, Bibou (PHL), Amorette (Lancaster, PA)) there is usually a bit more interaction with the staff, where I'm told details of my meal--sometimes where the ingredients are sourced, sometimes what they are, sometimes what I'm going to taste, and with respect to the wine (where ordered), where it's from, the year, and tasting notes. All started out well. I was greeted, asked if I had visited before, and then told that the evening featured a special tasting menu. I was also regaled with how the featured ingredient--truffles--are sourced (truffle-snuffling pigs with a highly specific job). But once I was passed to the service team after taking my seat, everything became impersonal. The extent of my interactions were the various team members dropping off our food with a cursory "This is X item." No explanation, no joy of what is to come. I resorted to playing "guess the wine from the wine list" because the description I received was bare. And particularly confusing was that wine began lapping courses--we received several wines up to ten minutes before the next course, while we still had the previous course's wine. A shame, because they tasted great, but I wanted to not drink them all before the food they would pair with came. And I did try--I asked, for example, about a wine year, but never received a response (despite assurance I would). To be fair, I appreciate that my visit was on a busy evening and that it's hard to miss what something tastes like once you put it in your mouth. Perhaps I'm even being a bit high in my expectations on the service front. But in a crowded field, to rest on the laurels of the taste of food may not be enough. And particularly in high-end places, I don't think an expectation of something beyond the minimum of "here's what you ordered" is out of place. Instead, I would expect a place that bills the use of high end ingredients to want those ingredients to shine, rather than be sleuthed out. I'll absolutely be back here. The food's too good not to return. I recommend that you also visit. Bring a date, bring your mom, or convince your workplace to have a corporate dinner here. Your experience may not even reflect mine. But the possibility of that inconsistency is worth noting, and something I hope Ciro picks up on going forward. read more

Small plates and excellent and intelligent wine pairings make this lovely spot an unexpected find. As soon as you walk into Ciro you notice that the owners have made masterful use of the space - creating a beautiful, though modest, dining room. The food consists of small plates with fresh local ingredients. The gnocchi is paired with lobster some days and king crab others and varies from a garlic, butter, wine reduction sauce to a spicy chunky tomato. The tomato tart and any of the tuna dishes are light and savory. Highly recommended and a place where you come back often to work through each item on the menu. read more

Last night was our first time dining at Ciro. Would we go back? I'm honestly not sure. The service was strange. I'm sure our server was perfectly nice but our interaction with him was purely transactional. We weren't acknowledged for 10 minutes after being seated. Water poured. Drinks ordered. Drinks delivered. "Are you ready to order?" We ordered a bunch of things to share and my request to the server was "please tell me if this feels like too much," since it was our first time there and we had no idea how big everything would be. It was definitely too much. :) The food was well made, but my husband and I agreed too many flavors and very salty. There was also a break of about 30 minutes between our first plates and the end.
