Ordered online for delivery. When it came, it was the wrong order. Called the restaurant (Henderson Rd.) and was on hold for 20 minutes. Called back, and they had no record of my order??? How does this happen. I got text messages and emails confirming the order. My credit card was charged. They couldn't help me. I have liked their food, but this customer service experience will make me think twice about a future order. This is management. Or a lack of. Update: this was NOT City BBQ's fault I have learned. It was Google's , who somehow hijacked the order and even delivered it. They screwed this up, but I wasn't using Google to order, so be careful when placing orders online that Google doesn't get involved. Sorry City BBQ, I thought it was you. read more

We had ordered in for an office lunch and City Barbeque was on the menu this particular day. It was pretty solid BBQ. I had the brisket with their original sauce, the potato salad, the green beans, the corn bread pudding, the banana wafer pudding and the peach cobbler. I swear I'm not a total fatty so I only had a little of each but the brisket was killer!!! The corn bread pudding, highly highly addictive!!! And the potato salad was on point too. The whole shebang was the jam and they even sent along FRESHLY made whipped cream for the cobbler. I've never dined in, but can attest to their take-out option. I placed an order, was was told that my order would be ready in 20 minutes. So I arrived at City BBQ at that time, and was able to walk straight up to a separate line, pay for my order, and then carry it out. The other line was the regular ordering line, and it was busy busy busy with the line out the door. The delicious BBQ smell did taunt me during the entire car ride home though! The food is pretty good as well. I was disappointed by the ribs though, which I have gotten twice before and both times were very dry. The brisket, however, was excellently done and had great flavor. The BBQ sauces were also good, particularly the spicy one. I sides were alright -- fries, corn bread, collard greens, macaroni and cheese, baked beans. Poor customer service! Literally spent over 20 minutes in line waiting for an order. The staff failed Acknowledge me and another gentleman whom worked as a courier. The two women waiting of the customers offered one woman a free dessert for her long wait. The rest of us in like were ignored! I sure won't be going to this location again. I also don't like the idea of orders just sitting out on a table waiting to be picked up. Seems like a food safety issue. I surely wouldn't want to deliver for that company. read more

We dove into this location after an Ohio State football game and weren't the only fans with that idea, proof that this is a staple when it comes to Columbus BBQ, even though there isn't much stiff competition, unless you consider Smokey Bones. Whether choosing the pulled pork or turkey you can't go wrong here. Not only does the meat come with great taste, they aren't shy about loading your plate or sandwich. The beef and pork brisket is top notch, the sausage is smokingly sensational, the ribs are ridiculous, and the chicken is scrumptious. For sides I love the green beans, baked beans, and fresh cut fries. Hard to argue against their peach cobbler. Depending on the time of year they offer a really good gumbo, tremendous turkey, and during lent you cant do wrong with the catfish. Their salads are huge. While not for me family and friends love their cucumber and leaks; potato salad, cole slaw, and banana pudding. I think the grean beans are the best i ever had. Always get their lemonade. They don't put on sauce, you have 4-5 choices. I am a fan of the sweet and brushfire. The restaraunt, bathrooms, and parking lot are always clean; the service is consistently great; and the food is fabulous. Everyone takes pride in their product and their jobs. Great value. Highly recomended to all. Today I called ahead for carry out and got the pig up and go party pack with beef and pork, green beans and baked beans as well as a whole chicken to leave in the fridge for later. One word is needed to describe.... PERFECTION. Unfortunately I could never make that on my own, I can only buy it at City BBQ. Food is acceptable. Customer service is the worse I've ever experienced. Placed an order to be delivered to my downtown office to celebrate all of my staff being in the office together for the first time since being assigned to work from home at the start of the pandemic. Provided the name of the building, the address and stated I would meet the delivery person in the lobby at 11:45AM. As I stood in the lobby I received a text stating the delivery had been made, except I saw nor had any food. Called the Stygler store from where the order had been sent and spoke to several staff who have obviously never been introduced to the concept of customer service. One suggested I place a new order and pick it up or have it delivered, delivered at the next available slot of 1:50PM. Another Einstein suggested I call the Door Dash driver to find out where the food had been delivered and go pick it up as if I, as the customer, should manage its subcontractor. I received a call about an hour later from the same giggling Einstein who told me the order had been delivered to an OSU hospital 2.5 miles north of downtown Columbus. My staff and I went into a 2.5 hour meeting having had no lunch because of the complete incompetence of City BBQ and Door Dash. Thank you City BBQ for ruining my staff's reunion. Thank you Door Dash for hiring drivers far too stupid to use the GPS function on her smart phone to obtain proper directions. To rub salt into the wound, City BBQ then called several times to get my credit card information to refund the cost of the food only and offer a pathetically weak "I sorry," instead of simply writing a check and sending it to me at my office or home. Did I mention how piss poor City BBQ customer service skills are? Not to worry City BBQ. I closed my account, so your staff never have to bother serving me again. Ambiance? LOSERVILLE. read more

I like B&K Smokehouse on Main St. Great service and price for what you get. The mac and cheese side that comes w combo is rather small, so may need to bump up to larger size. Keith (the K of B&K) is efficient, friendly and patient. Brisket is great and I hear people come from distances to get their ribs. They have fire going to Q all their stuff just behind the place in the alley. Really a take out place, but I have eaten in w/o problem. Besides being 10 min. late, they showed up without paper plates and utinsels. I called and the person who anwered said "I get off in 9 minutes and I can't do anything about this." I asked her to leave a message for the manager to call me, and he never did. We had to rush out to the grocery store to get plates and utinsels which made us late. I contacted the store and they did not responding on the line they set up for more than 10 minutes. When I did get through, the manager told me it is the delivery service's problem, despite the fact that they sealed the bag so that it would not be checked. Did not even apologize for the mistake that the restaurant clearly made. This was the second time ordering from them and the second time they screwed up an order without taking responsibility. I'm a city boy from Northern Ohio that married a girl from a small town in mid-North Central Missouri. She is particular about many things involving food, and the opinion is both loud as it is certain. Like an unshakable mountain. I tend not to make the mistake of disagreeing with her whenever possible. When she craves BBQ, she says that there's only one spot in the entire city that satisfies her hunger appropriately, and that is City Barbeque. I think it's a combination really of the food AND the Sweet Tea (which since my marriage 12 years ago I have increased my consumption of tenfold as a consequence) and the food, but I digress... In regards to measurable palate expertise in all meats slowly cooked I am but a humble novice. She is the master. The maestro. The maestra, if you will. And she says it's good. To me, it stands out with the right flavor notes, the right amount of heat depending on the sauce you pair with, and the sides are absolutely great. I don't know what it is about me and BBQ places and their side dishes, but I irrevocably enjoy them more than the smoked meats themselves and this is no exception. The corn pudding is exceptional and I could eat that by the bucketload. The mac and cheese isn't half bad either. The price...is acceptable. I think it's high. If this review was just for my meal, I'll give a lesser rating. However, my boyfriend really really likes this location and I'll take that into consideration. This was the first time I allowed my boyfriend to pick out our dinner restaurant. LOL. He immediately said city barbecue because he's been there before and it's been amazing to him. So, we order a sampler which comes with several different things and two sides. The sides were small, insanely small. The ribs were OK but they definitely don't taste like they're barbecued. I don't think anything was really barbecued. It just has barbecue sauce on it. The baked beans were amazing though I only received a little bit of them. My chicken, I don't think, was cooked all the way through and I ended up getting about $10 refunded because of that. Overall, I think I may be more inclined to revisit with the expectation that this isn't real barbecue can I'd also check my food. read more

I was post double lung transplant at OSU, and while typically vegan, my healing body and brain demanded meat, and it was Labor Day, so my options were beyond limited, but I literally needed BBQ. I want to start by saying over the last month or so I have encountered some of the worst customer service in my life at other fast food places and even expensive sit down restaurants... I almost got to the point where going out to eat anywhere was miserable. This location gave me faith again that there are still good people in the world that are able to work in a customer service position. As a fast food manager for three years I think the service is just as important as the quality of the food. The employee at the register was very complimentary, and the gentleman who I think was a manger absolutely made my day. A lot of BBQ snobs will try and tell you that City Barbeque isn't the real deal. They're dead wrong. While the local chain (six locations -- Upper Arlington, Reynoldsburg, Gahanna, Polaris, Westerville, Powell) doesn't stick to a particular regional style of 'Q, it does dabble in them all quite nicely. Texas gets a considerable corner of the menu with low-and-slow beef brisket and smoked sausage. Memphis/Kansas City represent with pork ribs and a tangy-sweet sauce. North Carolina style pops with pulled pork and a vinegar-based sauce. The sides are plenty authentic as well -- fresh-cut fries, coleslaw, greens, mac & cheese, corn bread and more. Sweet tea and banana pudding round out the perfect meal. For being in a city that isn't known for its BBQ, City Barbeque is a great find. Great take out as well. read more

Well I'm saying it now, this place is a meat lover's paradise. Vegetarians - think of it this way. If you love Quinoa, then this place has every kind of delicious quinoa you could want and every dish is done to the highest standards of quinoa goodness. Without repeating other reviewers positive comments about the brisket and pulled pork, I will only say that the Smoked Sausage is one of the best things they serve and it' is debatably in third place in the City BBQ meat category! All of the sides are tasty - highlights include green beans, baked beans, corn pudding. Banana pudding, if you're in to that. Catering, carry-out, eat-in (in the expanded enclosed patio this summer!!) It's all good. If you haven't been to one, get there and you won't be disappointed. read more

I'm not huge into BBQ. My husband loves it. We used to have BBQ pretty frequently when we lived in Texas so I figured we had to give this place a try. I was pleasantly surprised. It was pretty packed inside but the service was great! Everyone who worked there seemed like they were in a good mood and they were friendly. It was super speedy too. We didn't have to wait more than a minute. It was a very laid back and positive atmosphere. There was even a band playing. They seemed pretty cool. I was pleased with the food too. I got pulled pork, side salad, and Mac and cheese. My favorite part was the giant side salad. It was very fresh. The chipotle ranch dressing was different and delicious. The Mac and cheese was good but nothing special. The pulled pork was also pretty good. I don't think it's the best I've ever had. I think it was because of the bun. It seemed too squishy and kind of diluted the flavor of the meat. I'll just ditch the bun next time. The BBQ sauces were decent as well. City Barbeque makes some really delicious smoked meats. My fiance and I split the City Sampler, which was really the perfect amount. All of it was super good- he loved the sausage and the pork and I loved the brisket and the turkey (I know, seems lame but that smoked turkey is bomb). Their sauces are also really good - with a range from spicy to sweet. Sides are good too, but I have to say I did not love the mac and cheese. It fell a little flat in my opinion, which is sad, but you throw a little pork and a little bbq sauce in there and it jazzes it right up (but to be honest, I would likely not order it again). The Texas toast is also SUPER good - a little garlicky and the right texture to give you some contrast. If I could recommend one side over others it would absolutely be the baked beans. SO freaking good. The line can be a little overwhelming during peak times because the ordering and pick up space is pretty tight, but there is plenty of room in the rest of the restaurant to eat in (or take it to go!). read more
