For Northern BBQ, this is great! I had to put that disclaimer in there, being from the South. Nobody does it like home, but City BBQ comes as close as anywhere local! I always order a pulled pork sandwich with sides. I would order pulled pork even if all the meats cost the same. It's my favorite! You can't go wrong with any of the sides unless there's something you just don't like from anywhere. The potato salad is amazing, the mac n cheese is great, even the corn pudding, which doesn't sound or look good to me, actually is pretty tasty! I'm not a fan of their baked beans, because the sauce is a little too zippy for me, but my husband likes them. If you're hungry, fries are by far the best option because the quantity is so much larger than the other sides. I also love that City BBQ started a rewards program! I crave BBQ all the time, I mean that must be unhealthy and really not the best option when I can easily make it at home. Except I love City BBQ! So there is my dilemma. Every time I come in I have a hankering for a new side. Although I got to get the beef brisket, it's just not City BBQ without the beef brisket and that awesome sweet city BBQ sauce topped onto it. Now on the brisket sandwich's you have an option for the full cut or the regular. The only difference between the two is the full cut is cut thicker and has a bit more fat added to it. With the regular you get a thinner cut and less fat. So I always go with my regular because I don't need more added to my waistline, I already got enough problems to worry about, don't need that too. The seasonal sides out right now are a rice gumbo, sweet potato casserole and smash and gravy. I went with the rice gumbo and boy was that good. Well, my husband and I love City Barbeque but unfortunately this Polaris location really disappointed us. We arrived on a Saturday at about 1:00pm and they were pretty busy, which we took as a good sign. However, almost EVERYTHING we ordered was ice cold. We both chose the pick 2 meats entree with 2 sides added on. My husband had turkey & brisket (which was incredibly fatty this time) with baked beans and mac & cheese, I had turkey & pulled pork with baked beans & corn pudding. The baked beans were the ONLY thing served to us warm. Our meats (huge servings, which is a plus) were cold...the mac & cheese and corn pudding were not only ice cold but also flavorless...even the BBQ sauce at the condiment counter with a sign that said "warm sauce" was cold and had an old skin layered on top as if it hadn't been stirred in days. Very disappointing, but thank goodness the meats were still tasty and the delicious sweet baked beans were good, otherwise this would've been a total bust of a lunch. We also ordered a banana pudding to split, which was pretty good. Nothing mind blowing, but definitely brought back memories of traditional homemade versions that I've always enjoyed so I'm glad we finally tried one since everyone is always raving over it. Service at the counter was decent and fast and the employees were friendly, however the restaurant was pretty dirty and I prefer the food presentation at the Dayton location instead of the normal plates and bowls at this Polaris one. Our family has fond memories of eating at City Barbeque. When my daughter, now a college student, was in grade school, she and I often ate at the City BBQ in Westerville after her piano lessons, sharing a piece of chocolate cake to top off a great evening. That was about 20 years ago. Over the years, as City BBQ expanded, we noticed a drop-off in quality and started patronizing their restaurants less and less. My gradual yet escalating disappointment reached a peak a week ago, when I came to the realization that, in my opinion, City BBQ management doesn't really care when they serve a substandard product. I stopped at the new Polaris location on Feb. 22 at about 4 p.m. I included in my takeout order a half-slab of ribs. After opening the container upon returning from the restaurant, I was greeted by a collection of single bones that were home to a dreary, gray meat whose peak was about 4-6 hours prior. I completely understand how ribs can become dried out; I have no qualm with that. What was amazing to me was that the person who prepared my order looked at that dried out, tasteless jerky-on-a-bone and thought it was OK to send out the door. That evening I used City BBQ's website to send a short, polite message -- along with a photo -- about the subpar food I received. As of today, seven days later, I've not received a reply. That's sad, because I remember the days when City BBQ, despite it being a chain, was OUR chain, meaning central Ohio's. Now I consider it to be a business that no longer cares about the product it's churning out. That's pretty surprising, considering the greater Columbus market today offers so many more smaller, quality BBQ restaurants than were available 20 years ago. Love the City Sampler. The brisket and chicken are so good, and have a great smokey flavor. My wife, on her birthday got the brisket sandwich, and my son got a half rack of ribs and the brisket chili. Everything is fresh and hot and very tasty. I've never had such quick service from order to eating at any City BBQ. They also had a Cheerwine BBQ sauce which was out of this world. I've eaten City BBQ many times but it's always been catered to where I work. And I never thought it was much better than 3 stars each time. I have heard time and time again how great this place is but never really thought it was that great from my experience with the catered food. So I was in the area of a City BBQ one day and decided to give it a try. I thought maybe the catered food just wasn't as good as buying it fresh right from the store and eating it right then. I was right. The food is much, much better going right to the restaurant and getting it there. I ordered the North Carolina Pulled Pork sandwich with green beans (that has bacon in it, woo hoo), mac and cheese and a large drink. The sandwich was top notch, I especially liked the cole slaw on it, which I admit seemed odd at first and I nearly asked them not to put it on there but I tried it and lo and behold, it just works! The sides were incredibly delicious as well, especially the bacon in the green beans. The mac and cheese was very cheesy as well. The restaurant itself is very nice, clean and the people who served me and rung me up were very friendly and professional. The prices are also pretty good especially for the amount of food you get. I normally buy the beef brisket, which I love but thought I would try the ribs today... what a waste. Hands down the worst ribs I've ever had!! I'm used to the Hickory House ribs where the meat is so tender it literally falls off the bone; these were the opposite. I was so excited when this location opened! I have continued my weekly City BBQ fix even during this pandemic. The staff have been wonderful and friendly when you come in. I also love the features on their website that you can order online and also donate a meal to essential workers. I always add on a meal because we must support those who take care of us. City is a place ideal for the solo traveler, families or large parties. It's brings an inviting feel for all ages and enough different options to cater to everyone. Let's start with the meats. Fortunately, they do a good job with all on the menu, but a few do stand out. The turkey can be a bit dry, but the brisket always remains moist and packed with flavor. The pulled pork and sausage are tasty, too, as are the ribs, which won't disappoint. An array of quality sides outdo the traditional boring cole slaw, baked beans and potato salad. Their hand cut fries are worthy, the corn pudding is a tad dry but would pass in East Tennessee where it's ever so common, the side salad is equipped with fresh greens and better yet homemade dressing and to be honest that's all we tried. Even though we were full we ordered the banana pudding and peach cobbler. The banana pudding is ok, but the cobbler is a better choice. Tried the burnt ends, something unexpected and apparently limited on the menu until it sells out. Super flavorful and fun to try dunking in the different sauces. Yummmmm. I really enjoyed City Barbeque! The plan was to get high-end Indian food at Bayleaf tonight (I was SO excited about Bayleaf that I thought about pre-yelping it - but make no mistake, that review will appear next week!), but we overshot our time and ended up, tummys rumbling, at Bayleaf right in the middle of the restaurant being closed between lunch and dinner... so what else could satisfy the boy and I, when we hadn't eaten all day in order to sample multiple Indian dishes? BARBEQUE!! I have wanted to go to City Barbeque forever, but have only been to Hoggy's (which is awesome, btw)... and finalllllly, I was really very pleased with my City BBQ experience! The boy and I split a dinner, as we tend to do with BBQ because it's always huge. I sort of don't believe the staff at both City and Hoggy's when they say that people eat entire BBQ platters themselves, because we always share and are always plenty full with our meal - and hardly ever finish it. Tonight, we ordered some sort of sampler platter, which came with pulled pork, braised beef, ribs, and chicken, as well as two sides, cornbread, and Texas toast - see? How the H does anyone finish that, individually?? The two of us put a good dent in our meal, but also threw a lot away, which made me feel kinda guilty. : / I really liked the chicken, while the boy insisted that the ribs were the best. I was very excited about the corn "pudding" we chose as a side, and of course the traditional mac n cheese. Although I don't drink pop, the boy insisted that I try some old-timey rootbeer, which was good (though I prefer water, coffee, beer and/or whiskey to drink!), and a nice touch to the meal. I honestly think the meat here is better than at Hoggy's, but at the same time, I don't think these two places are going for the same feel. I liked how City's meat was really smokey tasting. I'd definitely like to try one of the other locations that's not near that yuppie wonderland, Polaris. The only reason we were out there was to go to Bayleaf (cannot.wait.to.try).
