Perhaps the rave reviews made my expectations too high. I've honestly had better bbq at multiple places in my relative bbq desert hometown of Boston. I was hoping for a real treat during my business trip to Atlanta; instead, I'm yearning for the joint near my suburban New England home...

We visited City Barbeque in Decatur on 2/18/26 at approximately 8:04 PM, about 50 minutes before closing. Unfortunately, the experience was extremely disappointing. When we arrived, most of the chairs had already been stacked onto tables, giving the impression that the restaurant was closed. By the time we received our food, it was cold. We also noticed that the tea and other beverage amenities had been removed and placed on a cart to be taken to the back. Several tables throughout the restaurant were dirty, and the dining area overall appeared unclean. There were approximately six employees on duty at the time. Our cornbread, which was an additional $3.19 charge, was hard and cold. When we requested fresh cornbread, we were told there was only one piece remaining--and it was cold as well. We asked if it could be warmed and were informed that they had no way to heat cold food. Additionally, we requested all flat smoked wings but received drums instead. Throughout the visit, each employee we encountered was unprofessional and dismissive. At one point, I asked an employee who was stacking chairs about a tea refill, and she ignored my question entirely. It was surprising and disappointing that every staff member we interacted with displayed the same lack of courtesy. We left around 8:39 PM, feeling unwelcome and dissatisfied. This was not our first negative experience at this location. Over a year ago, we also encountered locked doors approximately 15 minutes before closing. Management should reevaluate operations at this location and ensure staff are properly trained to uphold company policies, cleanliness standards, and respectful customer service. We sincerely hope this experience is not reflective of other City Barbeque locations, such as Snellville. Overall, this was a very disappointing visit, and we will not be returning to this location. read more

So, it's a Friday night and I was feeling alright [no I'm not going to break out into song]. But BBQ was on my mind. There are the consistent old favorites, but I wanted to try someplace new. For those of you that don't know there is a revival of sorts going on around Decatur. People have discovered this little secret and there are new apartment buildings, restaurants and shops popping up everywhere. Pretty soon it's going to be a crowded as Buckhead but until we get to that point let's enjoy Decatur. So, City BBQ so looking at it on a map I had no idea where it was but when I got there I saw that this is in one of the new shopping centers going up in this area. Parking is a little sketchy because the lot is so small, once inside City BBQ it's a old style homey kind of place, think Sonny's but a bit more upscale. So when you walk in there will be so many choices. I had to stand there for a minute because everything looked so good I couldn't decide. When I did make up my mind I got the Pick - 2 with Brisket and Smoked Sausage Green beans with the Mac & Cheese. Don't make the mistake that I did, I figured it would take a while for me to get my food, so I thought I could order the Cheesy Bacon Fries to nibble on before I got my food. I asked the guy behind the counter "how big of an order is the Cheesy Fries" he said "oh about 200 fries". I thought there's no way it could be that big of an order, oh man so, so many fries. There were so many I couldn't even eat my main and had to take it home for dinner the next day. I did, and it was just as good the next night. The mac & cheese weren't that great, the green beans they add bacon to it so it wasn't bad. The meats top notch and this is a place that I would come back to again. Disappointing Experience at City BBQ On Saturday, May 4th, my family of five visited the City BBQ location at 2511 Blackmon Drive in Decatur, GA. Unfortunately, our experience was far from satisfactory. Upon entering the store at around 2:15 p.m., we noticed that there were employees present, but no one was at the cash register to greet or acknowledge us. Keyonna, an employee, eventually came to take our order after my sister loudly announced our readiness. However, it took until 2:35 p.m. (20 minutes later) for my order to be taken. Not only did I receive no thank-you, but Keyonna also seemed distracted, chatting with coworkers while taking orders. Another customer had to repeat their order three times due to her lack of attention. The two male managers on duty either ignored or accepted this behavior as the norm. Despite addressing the issue with both Keyonna and the managers, no corrective action was taken. To make matters worse, Keyonna openly discussed the situation with coworkers, blaming me for her rudeness. The store itself was unclean, and the condiment area was poorly stocked. My sister's to-go order lacked sauces, and no one bothered to ask if she wanted any. Considering the high cost of dining out, this experience was unacceptable. My recommendation is for City BBQ to retrain its staff at this Decatur, GA location, starting with the managers, to adhere to standard operating procedures regarding customer service and maintenance of the restaurant. Pierre, the manager, immediately stepped in with calm professionalism and helped me quickly place the substantial order. I recently visited City BBQ as a first-time customer and had a disappointing experience with their customer service. If you're going to offer curbside pickup, it's essential that the staff actually bring out the orders. Unfortunately, I was feeling unwell and didn't want to go inside. After waiting twenty minutes past my pickup time, I received a notification that my order was ready, but I had to go inside to retrieve it myself. The food had been sitting there for an unknown amount of time and was no longer hot, and the customer service was lacking. I would have addressed this with a manager, but given my condition, I opted not to. I believe this issue needs to be addressed to improve the experience for future customers. The restaurant called and canceled my saying that they had no full slabs of , just as I got the notification that my order was being picked up by . They would not cancel the order at the restaurant and told me I had to do it, but then Uber wouldn't refund my money because they said the order was "after it was prepared". Didn't no one at the restaurant answer the phone to confirm that I did not cancel the order. I wouldn't even go to the trouble to this, but it's happened before. Just as my order was supposed to be delivered. I got a call that they have certain items. I think I'm gonna a barbecue restaurant that has better service. The staff is almost ALWAYS sweet. I'm a regular here. The food is pretty good and their banana pudding might be the best banana pudding I've had. I'm not even a dessert person. Whenever I eat their sandwiches I usually switch the bread out for their Texas toast. Love the app since I get to skip the line and receive reward points. I mean there's not much to dislike.
